Yeah, I remember that too. You cant expect players to be loyal to clubs when they get treated like that. Brett Clark also had the coolest hair too! Not that I bat for the other side, but I always wanted to have hair like that, mum would always have me have short back and sides.........arrrrrrrr

Hey Tecee, Sorry for not saying bye last night, but you were in deep conversation and I had my pregnant wife waiting in the leagues club to drive me home. Thanks for making me feel at ease last night, I was really nervous walking up the stairs in anticipation of meeting all the Wests Magpies players, glad we bumped into each other at the beginning. Wow, I still cant believe I sat at the same table as Bruce Clark! Hoping we can celebrate an announcement soon that we will be playing in 2013 and beyond!

Last night the Wests "25 years in Campbeltown Team" was announced at the Magpies Hall of Fame Gala Dinner. A great night was had by all that attended. We will be putting up more photos of the event over the coming days so stay tuned for that.

To celebrate the event a caricature of the team was created by talented artist Scott Rigney.

He played 47 games for Wests Magpies. I remember him as a kid for his goal kicking and that he shared my first name, all be it spelt different.

During the night I had a quick chat with our first coach at Campbelltown, Steve Ghosn.

I reminded him that he was the only Magpies coach to win some silverware for us in the top grade.

In the pre-season there was the "Paul Wakeling Holden Challenge" where four teams competed in a round robin competition where 13 played against 13, but only 10 minutes each half.

The teams were Wests, Illawarra, Penrith and a Newcastle side.

Wests won!!

As an aside, Ewen Mcgrady was in the Wests team (on the wing), as he was trialling for the Magpies.

It was also the first time I saw Scott Tronc play and I knew he'd be a good 'un.

We had a half back from Brisbane called Wayne Cullen whose kicking game was good on the day but he never went any further with Wests.

It was also my first glimpse of the legendary big Les White, whom you might remember carving up Parra in our first game at Campbelltown.

I did have the original program but I gave it to the archives so I can't give you any more details of players.

Prior to the games there were trial matches for Wests and Graham Mackay was in one of them.

I think the highlight of the night was a lovely tribute to the late Keith Holman.

I had seen footage of him in the Pratten Park dressing room remembering his days with Wests, but it was special to see the great man walking down Arthur Street and into the ground with a song from Dennis Burgess playing in the background.

The song goes

I wandered today through Ashfield Maggies
As sunlight was fading to dark,

T'was in Arthur Street that I saw Maggies
The gateway to old Pratten Park

The turnstiles were silent and still Maggies
The grandstand and hill quiet and bare

My mind wandered back to the days Maggies
When great black and white men played there

I heard old Erko ring the bell Maggies
And thrilled to each smell, sound and sight

All too soon my dream came to an end Maggies
And I drifted off into night

They say we have outlived our time Maggies
As dated as songs that we've sung

But to me you're as fair as you were Maggies
When you and I were young

I've heard Dennis sing this song live before at Magpie functions but as a backing vocal for Keith I teared up.

BLACK and white was the theme of the night as Western Suburbs Magpies celebrated 25 years in Campbelltown at a gala dinner at Wests League Club on Friday.

More than 230 former players, officials, family, friends and supporter attended.

A special guest was Magpies fullback Wayne Smith, who was inducted into Wests Hall Of Fame with the late Clarrie Prentice and Frank Stanmore.

Players unveiled as apart of the commemorative best of '25 Years in Campbelltown' included Andrew Farrar, David Gillespie, Jason Taylor, Darren Willis, Steve Georgallis, John Skandalis and Robbie Farah. Former Magpie Brett Hodgson sent a video thank you message from the UK while Magpies junior Bryce Gibbs also sent a message.

Other former players at the dinner included Leo Epifania, Bruce Clark, Jason Williams Andrew Leeds, Cherry Mescia, Ian Schubert, Mick Liubinskas, Noel Kelly and John Hayes.

Current Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens was named coach of the commemorative team.

Campbelltown Council presented the Magpies with a plaque which will take pride inside the tunnel at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

There were several highlights of the night. Club stalwart Rick Wayde interviewed players who reflected on playing at Campbelltown.

There was an emotional video tribute to the late Keith Holman and a volunteer award was presented to Jeff Applitt.

Didnt Graham Mackay get charged for stealing mags from a tyre a store? I could be wrong, but I just have this feeling? If true, should this make him ineligible to be selected. And if so, would this mean we would have to do the whole night again? LOL How good would that be?
