The Board of Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd. would like to provide the Membership and supporters with an update in relation to the NSW Cup in 2013. The Board can assure the Members and Supporters that the Football Club is making preparations to enter a Wests Magpies team into the NSWRL VB NSW Cup competition for Season 2013. The Board understands the disappointment and frustration of its Membership in regards to the delay of a decision about that. However, the Board and management have been extremely diligent in working at what is in the best interests of the Western Suburbs District Club at all levels to ensure the most positive and lasting outcome for the Club is achieved. A decision is imminent and the Board of Western Suburbs will inform the Members and supportersʼ once certainty has been established and a clear direction for the future can be officially confirmed. We ask that all loyal Magpies Members and supporters form a united front and continue to show their support for this great foundation club by attending and honouring all our players, past and present, that have proudly worn the Black and White, on Friday 24th August at Wests Leagues Club Campbelltown, as the Western Suburbs District Football Club holds its annual Hall Of Fame Gala Dinner and we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of ʻWestsʼ in Campbelltown. We thank all Members and supporters of our proud Club for your understanding, and above all, your patience in relation to this issue. Board & Management Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd. |

How hard is it to make a decision? The longer you leave it the less likely we will be able to field a competitive team for next season. I dont know about you, but I havent enjoyed watching us get beat by 50 each week! What a "Liubinskas" of non decision. Very soft indeed! Thanks Mike Bailey, Thanks Wests Ashfield! |

Time to get the ball rolling for next season. Players now know that we will be here next season so we can start recruiting again, plus we can get the current guys training hard for next season too. Perhaps form a formal alliance with a Bundy team? Although they are struggling this season, I am thinking Blacktown, especially as Windsor already have a Bundy team. Plus Blacktown wear mainly black, so a good fit.Main thing is, though, we have a decision in all but signatures, so we can get moving. Looking forward to announcing a few wins next year!!! |

As far as Blacktown Workers go, they were asked by Penrith to enter into this year's Bundy Cup and receive fringe U20 Penrith players. One player they have had playing for them and who also plays in the Panther's U20's side is Zac Mackay, son of former Magpie player Graham Mackay. Perhaps slick can advise what is happening with Burwood/North Ryde next year. Since Wests have an informal agreement with them at the moment, maybe it can be extended into something more in 2013 although from what I can understand, BNRU have so far received excess players from WT Toyota Cup, BRET & Western Suburbs so who knows what may happen there. However I would still rather we have a strong local side enter Bundy Cup - rather then just one club (Campbelltown Eagles did play in the Jim Beam Cup about 5 or 6 yrs ago) maybe some composite team locally that would be able to compete at that level. I remember Wests Leagues entered a team in the original Metropolitan Cup in 1990 for a season and again about 10 years later. Maybe they could enter a team again????? Could the answer be for Wests Leagues to enter a local side in Bundy Cup? Perhaps Wests Ashfield fund the NSW Cup side, Wests Campbelltown fund a Bundaberg Cup side and both leagues clubs continue as they did this year in funding the Magpies SG Ball and Harold Matthews squads. As a side note, some of the clubs in the Sydney Shield competition (its sort of the level below Bundy Cup) namely Guildford, received excess Parramatta U20 players during the year. |

No beef with that, especially as it would help on game day to get more people through the gate if we could sync the draw. |

Might be a good idea for the magpies to implement a recrutiment/retention sub committee to help aide the club in this area. Relying on trialists next year will be leaving it too late, getting some key signatures now to build the team around is imperative. |

Bundy for 2013 is not an option as submission dates have passed already, as for NSW Cup too. I'm hearing Wests have already applied for a standalone NSW Cup license and 500k for contracts is the figure I'm hearing. I cant answer the query on BNRU for next year as my source is holding back on any info for now ;-) |

Am I missing something here? It might be fine if the magpies board agree to field a side next year, but if they dont have the support of the leagues clubs, then where does it leave the club? I wish I shared your enthusiasm. Ill believe it when I see our boys running out next season! |

This is where it becomes a bit ironic. If Ashfield don't commit early, we have little hope of getting sponsorship. If they DO commit early, then we can get the sponsorship and that can lessen their burden. Having said that, Humphreys and his latte cohorts still want to destroy us before Balmain dies. If Balmain drowns, we take over. Hence their determination to be rid of us. As long as Ashfield and the football club hold out against Balmain, I am happy. After all, I hardly think a WT team at Campbelltown fulltime under Wests Group control is going to continue to be Balmain branded, as it is now. |

Didn't Ashfield say that they would only go along with the new arrangement if the football club did. Well the football club has said NO. I just hope that this is not just year to year proposition and were back to the same thing the year after. A good coach and players will wan't stability to sign and stay. BUT A GREAT RESULT. Onya Mick and committee, now to get sme NRL players back.

I have been told that when a club applies for the NSW Cup, it is for a two year contract, so if we are successful in playing in 2013, we are atleast assured of playing in 2014 as well. I would feel more comfortable if Wests Campbelltown was funding the club. Wests Ashfield I feel are more interested in expanding their club than the welfare of the football club that made them what they are today! |

I am advised that there just remains a couple more steps that there only remain a couple of technicalities but all is on course. I think you can be pretty well satisfied that things will be better next year as Western Suburbs. |

Meeting this week with WT, and I imagine Balmain, to discuss the distribution of NRL fringe players to both BRET and Wests next year. Stay tuned... |

Question to be considered-and I have zero information on this meeting, so this is all my personal thought-bubbling. Let's assume that Sheens has 100% Balmain backing because he favours BRET in distributing players to them and not Wests. If this meeting resolves to provide a fair distribution of players between Wests and BRET, does this mean the Balmain group suddenly has a conscience vote on Sheens, or do they resolve to maintain Sheens in the job? IMO, Balmain will fight tooth and nail to keep all NRL players, and naturally so. However, if the distribution of players is an on-field issue, does the board have the right to issue an edict on this? As much as despise what Sheens has done by warehousing at BRET, and I think it's counterproductive anyway, doesn't this set a dangerous precedent for the board to dictate on-field matters? I mean, imagine for a moment that the roles were reversed and Sheens warehoused the players here. Would it be unfair to tell him to split his players when the warehousing is an on-field matter? After all, what is next? The board picking the team for Sheens? (That would probably help at the moment, but I digress) While I wholeheartedly believe two feeder teams is the best bet (And splitting by backs and forwards is an example-BRET get all forwards and we get all backs for example), doesn't ordering Sheens around with his on-field tactics set a bad example? As I say, this is just my thought-bubbling, and remove all prejudice against Sheens for what he has done previously, and imagine if we were the beneficiaries. My take is this: Sheens is a twit for only wanting one feeder team, because 2 teams means double the depth and double the players to pick from. However, this is an on-field matter, and the call should be his. So, IMO, despite the fact that the decision is utterly moronic, he should have the right to make that call as head coach... AND BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR IT. |

There is two main reasons Sheens should be held accountable for: the Magpies DISASTROUS year, and WESTS/T the same. He should be hit in the bum with a slamming door on his way out. |
