Great news I think regarding Wests surviving another year in the NSW Cup, however its a huge difference between surviving and being competitive. I know it may seem harsh but some players from this year were not up to NSW Cup standard, would love to know who everyone thinks should be retained on reasonable money and who should be let go to chase their dream elsewhere?

Ill get back to you on this one after todays game Black&WhiteUnite. A very good question indeed! I like the Zoram Watane, Tuki Jackson, Jay Maseuli and Seffa Sifalua.

I think we should leave this particular debate until after next Saturday when we (God willing) secure the sweetest win of all, a win on Leichhardt Oval.

I doubt the boys read the forum, but if they do, I don't want them feeling they have no support.

Seeing Seffa Sifalua give chase to a Mounties player who took an intercept on his own line was inspirational. For that alone, it showed to me this guy has real heart and ticker. I just hope Black&WhiteUnite you arent a Balmain Ryde Eastwood talent scout and thinking of pinching him for next season!

haha no mate im not, i'm a wests man from way back and as I first stated came to round one and then only could make it to last week due to work commitments. I've been reading the posts all season but thought it was about time i sign up because as frustrating as the year has been with the lack of support etc I didnt really want to buy in to any of that talk because whats done is done. I just want the mighty maggies to start recruiting and gaining a better playing roster for next year so wanted to know ur guys thoughts on who should be retained seeing as though i cant really judge after only seeing 2 games.

the four names you suggested seem to be spot on the money as looking at the match reports they have been the ones scoring all the tries. Seffa, Tuki, Zoram especially, although Jay masueli could be great if he shed a few (not that i can really blame him i'm in the same boat lol). I do realise those 4 would be great to keep, what about any of the young boys that played this year? ok maybe not up to it this time around but with a full season of experience under their belt plus a pre season could be assets for a few years seeing their age. Players like La Manna, keanu rogers, Lekkas, nay, morrison and makejev. from what ive read through the match reports this year they are all still teenagers or just on 20!

Also just quickly, WHAT HAPPENED to our playing roster, the game i saw in round one had only 4 players still starting from the lidcombe game!!! ridiculous

Ok-now that the season is done, I think assessments are fair enough.

For me, there were a handful of standouts. Seffa Silafau can be one of the more damaging players in NSW Cup if he can get a few more yards under the belt.

While he lacks that burst of speed out of the blocks, Zoram Watene looks like he can add a hell of a lot of value from the bench as a utility back or even a hooker option, although this depends on who is available for next season.

Tuki Jackson and Henry Iuta proved quite difficult to deal with for opposition defences at times and have a lot going for them if they start in the second row.

Tom Morrison either needs a few extra yards of speed or some extra bulk-either is fine, as long as he gets at least one.

Michael Lekkas was a much better lock than centre and could be useful next year.

Trent Touma needs more gametime in NSW Cup but may be an option.

Maseuli and Makejev might be players to hang on to-Jay needs to slim down a bit, while Todd needs a bit more mobility.

Amanono Tovio was with us last year and has been good again this year.

One guy who saw almost no football was Lionel O'Malley-got injured early and was a very useful attacking option at dummy half.

I also see merit in Henry Godinet.

These guys wouldn't necessarily all form a core-some would be fringe players, but they did show they could handle this level. I'd like to see them with a full off-season behind them to see how they go though. This is where we run into issues-we don't know how these guys will perform with a full preparation behind them.

Ok i understand seffa definatly, he was a great player this year from what ive heard and an interesting view on the others, thanks for giving me ur opinion, as i mentioned ive seen only 2 games all year so it was hard for me to make a judgement!! What about some of the others ive mentioned, like daniel la manna, keanu rogers and chris nay? i ask this cos i understand these 3 are all still eligible for 20s next year. Also Nay in particular i remember for scoring a brilliant individual try to open the wests account for the year at lidcombe. Also can someone please tell me what happened to Aaron Sweeny!!!

Black&WhiteUnite. I believe Aaron Sweeney became disgruntled with how the coach and his support staff were training the players. He felt it was how he trained when he was a junior. I think he got an offer from Thirroul and played the rest of the season in wollongong. Perhaps someone else can either confirm what I have said or correct it.

With regards to the players you have mentioned, I did like Daniel La Manna and Chris Nay. They should be considered for retention. Keanu Rogers I do not know enough to make a comment.

There is a second rower that I was impressed with, more for the fact that I remember him getting pole axed against Wentworthville and got up straight away even though suffering from the effects of the hit. Ill try and dig up his name if I can.

I've heard the same story about Aaron Sweeney's departure, as told by OneEyedMagpie.

Aaron joined Berkeley in the Illawarra competition. Other former Magpies in the Berkeley team were Shannon Gallant, Robbie Payne, Pat Franks & Troy Gibbs.

I was impressed with Chris Nay, Seffa Silafau & Jay Maseuli. Nigel Millgate impressed with his courage during a long, difficult season.

ahh thanks for the reply guys, maybe that is part of the answer however as to why weve had such a poor season, if a distinguished NSW Cup player like Aaron Sweeney thinks that there must be some credibility behind it. And Kelly thanks for your views as Millgate was the final player whom I had a question about. So he is a tough little hooker then? I remember watching him in round one thinking he would e more suited there then at halfback where he was playing
