Signing Michael Lett was a masterstroke, a leading tryscorer in the NSW Cup... One of the best OBs the group has seen in a long long time, I'd say. |

Can't argue with you. He's been outstanding. But, I must say, he hasn't dominated to the extent where you'd say he's got us to where we are. I mean that as a compliment though. He's actually slotted in to the squad extremely well and has become an integral part of the team, rather than a superstar who is bigger than the club. His professionalism and confidence has given the rest of our squad an invaluable boost. I believe his presence has made already excellent players like Nick Taylor and Rory Vale rise to another level. I think anyone that saw our game today would have to give our hard working forward pack a huge wrap. I was genuinely worried about the jets. The form they've been in had me thinking we were genuine underdogs. Their big forwards and strong outside backs along with Gallant's brilliance have been unstoppable. But we just had them from the first minute. I was really surprised. Our smaller forwards were relentless. And there's no doubt Narellan were well off their best, with lots of errors. The game reminded me of the final in '10 when we rolled the heavily favoured workers. (Sorry TC). Blake Matthews got our players player, and he was outstanding in the centres, making about 40 metres with every touch. He found himself there after a reshuffle to cover for the injured Rory Vale. Chris Young was inspirational in the front row, as was Kiel Shephard. And Poisel played his best game of the year, extremely well supported by Dengate and Provost at half and hooker. The lions present a whole new set of problems next week. They are deserved minor premiers and deserved favourites for the GF. They have the perfect mix of toughness and mobility in the forwards, along with a half back who is as good as any I've seen in group 6 and speed all over the park. We'll have to lift another level to get them. Edited by foal, Sep 8 2013, 09:24 PM.

Looks like next week is shaping up to be the icing on the cake for Group 6 this season. The Junior's Grand Finals have been fantastic this weekend at Camden with some very hard fought games - a couple being decide in gold point. A very positive end to the 2013 season. Check out the junior's thread for the results of the Grand Finals. |

No need to apologise, I'm glad it's happened to another club also. I think the saloon passage last week would have done you guys wonders, and narellan playin near 100 minutes would have taken its toll. Not to take anything away from a dominant victory. I'll be cheering you on. |

I'm extremely happy for Picton, they've really come from nowhere to be a real chance this weekend. Hey Foal, did Kyal Kennedy get a run against Narellan? |

Magpies fly high after emphatic Group 6 Country Rugby League semi-final win EVIN PRIEST MACARTHUR CHRONICLE CAMPBELLTOWN SEPTEMBER 06, 2013 1:52PM View On Line ![]() Nick Taylor scored a double during the Picton Magpies' 32-12 victory against Narellan Jets to book their place in the Group 6 Country Rugby League grand final. Source: News Limited PICTON Magpies were flying high after defeating Narellan Jets 32-12 on Sunday to book a spot in this weekend's 2013 Country Rugby League Group 6 grand final against Mittagong. Defending premiers Campbelltown Eagles were stripped of their points earlier in the season for player breaches, leaving the competition open to challengers. Picton's Nick Taylor opened the scoring at Narellan Sportsground early in the preliminary final with a try in the 10th minute and added a second shortly after. The Magpies attacked Narellan's right-hand side and added a third try through Bryce Poisel to grab a 16-0 lead at the half-time break. Picton opened the second half with a 40/20 and its defensive pressure forced Jets centre Ray Ioane to blow a scoring opportunity. But Narellan showed fight and scored late tries through David McDonald and Gavin Wilson. The physical clash culminated in two sin-bins, with Picton's Brendan Shepherd sent off for a shoulder charge and Narellan's Jay Bonnell for a high tackle. The Magpies capitalised and put Brett Clark in for a try. Another Picton try on the siren dealt the killer blow to Narellan. Coach Gary Dowse praised the Magpies' efforts, but admitted there was still plenty of work to be done before the grand final clash against Mittagong. Dowse said the grand final would have a lot of competitive match-ups. "We'll match up well with the Mittagong side; we've got strong halves, a solid forward pack and a devastating fullback, and these players could dictate the result of next week's match," he said. The grand final will be played at Kirkham Park at 3.15pm on Sunday. |

It seems the group has decided not to back away from their outrageous decision to have a strict "no pass outs" policy on Sunday. Any spectator leaving the ground at any stage will have to pay $15 to re-enter. Needless to say this is a disaster for our club with teams playing in the first and last games of the day. I've already had a number of supporters tell me they'll have to give the 18's a miss because they can't (or won't) pay twice. I'm disgusted by this. Disgusted. |

Our club has been arguing the fact since we were told by the wife of a group 6 committee member on Friday night. We were told officially last night that due to licensing issues (absolute garbage) that their plan to have no pass outs would go ahead. Even though they have had pass outs earlier in the semifinal series. |

So what you are saying Foal is that if someone wants to watch the 18's which is the first game of the day and they wish to leave to come back later to watch 1st Grade those people will have to pay a full entry fee for a second time. If this is the case then it is just a blatant money grabbing exercise on the part of the Group. Surely the Group will have security at the gate to ensure that no drunks get in or no outside liquor will be brought in. This situation will be terrible for the earlier games. Not many people will stay for the whole day and most will save their money for the 1st Grade game and as a result of this the Picton 18's will not have the crowd they deserve on the day. I agree with you it is disgusting!!!! |

There is no valid reason for this decision. The problem with common sense is it's not so common, particularly when it comes to group 6 management. Can the clubs rally against this? Surely this sort of decision should be answerable to the general committee. Disgusting sums it up perfectly. |

Evenly balanced game is expected Sept. 10, 2013, 3:08 p.m. View Article THIS year's Group 6 first grade rugby league grand final is between Picton and Mittagong on Sunday at Kirkham Park, Elderslie. The general consensus among local footy identities is that the premiership decider will be an evenly balanced game. Oakdale coach Brendon Reeves tips Mittagong to beat Picton by eight points. "If Picton are to overcome Mittagong, they will need to stop Mittagong's go-forward which is stopping Robbie Payne; he's the number one forward in the group and has been a great player for a very long time," Reeves said. "The Borgs, Ben Baker and Warwick Carter feed off the back of his go-forward. "Picton will rely on a bruising, mistake-free style of footy which really comes to the fore at the business end of each season." Camden coach Mitch Newton was impressed with Picton's victory over Narellan on Sunday to reach the grand final. "People have been talking about the speed Picton have out wide with Michael Lett and while he is very dangerous, I think the Picton forwards are the reason they are going so well," Newton said. "They are very tough and props Young and Shepherd lead the way. The grand final is a tough one to pick, but I am leaning towards Picton. "Mittagong have no doubt been the best side all year and for them to win they will need their half, hooker and lock to take advantage of the Picton middle forwards as they get tired, but they will have there work cut out for them. "Picton defend very strongly up the middle, which will make it difficult for Mittagong to get quick play-the-balls, which is when they are at their best. "Picton lose a bit if Vale doesn't play, because he is a good distraction for Lett." Newton is tipping Picton to lead the game and Mittagong to try to "run them down" in the second half. Thirlmere/Tahmoor president Noel Wood also liked what he saw when he watched Picton beat Oakdale in their previous sudden-death game. "They were impressive against a very slow-looking Oakdale side," Wood said. "The downside for Picton is their lack of size. "I think they will get worn down, but there's not much between the two of them. "The key players for Mittagong are the Borgs and Michael Lett and Nick Taylor for Picton." The Oaks coach Leo Dynevor likes Mittagong's policy of giving younger players a chance to play. He believes the speed of Mittagong's Borg brothers could be a factor on Sunday. "It would be nice for Mittagong to win, because what they have done with their club in the last few years has been great with local juniors playing for their club," Dynevor said. "Mittagong has got great youth and experience that gives them the capabilities. "Picton have been flying under the radar. "We all know how well they played in the play-offs. "The elusive Michael Lett has been a blessing for Picton to gain halfway through the year." Campbelltown City Kangaroos director Alex Melville believes Picton enter the decider as favourites. "Michael Lett is the best outside back in the Country Rugby League competition and could well be the splitter of a tight tussle," Melville said. "They are very well led by Bryce Poisel and will be looking to lift their first title since 2009. "Mittagong deserve to be favourites because they have been the best team all season and are looking to win their first title since 1995. "The Borg brothers and the elusive Ben Baker could have a field day if it comes out hot and Warwick Carter is the man the opposition must contain if they hope to win. "Robbie Payne has big match experience and has provided the experience needed for the youthful Lions pack." The big game starts at 3.15pm. |
