I heard that too, with speculation being that a core of Thirlmere players, who were originally at Appin, are heading back up Macquarie Pass to get the Dogs finally off the ground in 1st Division 1st Grade. Doggiesgirl hasn't commented for a while, maybe she can confirm. If they don't raise sufficient talent/ numbers, it would be hoped that they continue to contest the 2nd Division & 18Bs Leagues. 6 years ago there was no Rugby League in Appin, both seniors & juniors have done great things. I too heard this over the weekend, with Dane Wooden rallying troops and approaching several players. |

So Wooden off to Appin?? I thought he left Narellan to go to Thirlmere for job security and better prospects. Did he get punted or is he looking for a new opportunity??

If there was a group 6 rep game on next week I'd pick a team something like this, ignoring injuries etc: 1. Shannon Gallant 2. Ben Baker 3. Michael Lett 4. Nick Taylor 5. Matt Macauley 6. Wade Dunley 7. Scott Borg 8. Robbie Payne 9. Stuart Flanagan 10. Chris Young 11. Alex Peters 12. Brad Hopkins 13. Warwick Carter 14. Matt Thorpe 15. Kiel Shephard 16. Rocky Trimarchi 17. Michael Stolk |

Limited exposure in the semi final, but Manu Aso'ava did more than enough to suggest he'll aid in G6's quest to go two better in Tier B next season. |

More to the point which of the 'CRL 5' , include Letty in that group next season, will be back? Gallant going around again at Narellan? What about Flanagan at Thirlmere, Payne at Mitta, Dunley at Camden and Hollywood at Oakdale? Will be hard to keep these players in the group after their exposure this season... Also who was MoM in the Grand Final, Carter was outstanding in a losing side Edited by Taco, Sep 18 2013, 06:49 PM.

I think you'd be surprised. Plenty of players from the group made country in the past. I can't think of one in recent years that was promptly poached from outside the group. There may be some movement within the group though. I hear that Flano may be headed to Canden along with a big name former NRL front rower. I can assure you Letty will be at Picton. I'm not sure about the others but I get the impression Borgy is very happy where he is. Along with Payney, although I think he's 36 or so now. Who knows when he may retire, he's definitely good enough to go around again. Tim Dengate got the official man of the match. Alex Peters got Pictons players player. I personally thought Letty was the best at there. His positional play was phenomenal. Diffused every bomb and snuffed out a number of grubbers and always got out of the in goal. On top of that he was a constant menace with the ball. I thought nick Taylor was outstanding also. Especially from dummy half in the first 40. He made 15-20 metres time and again and got us going forward. Sheppo and Youngy were outstanding also. I can't argue with your assessment of Carter though. He was all class. One of the best out there. |

Former Australian schoolboy & Illawarra divisional forward, badly handled by Penrith back in 2002-03. Should have played a lot of NRL. Type of guy people happily pay $8 to watch launch one man war's against opposition forward packs |

Cashmere to Camden? Where would Flanno fit in, probably at 13 with Corby to stay at 9? Camden were the source of ludicrous rumour after rumour this season, starting early this year, or some substance to this one? Reeves signed on again TC? The season might have ended just last weekend but Im already counting down the days |

If you're including Letty in the 'other 3' leaving their clubs, I can tell you he re-signed with us before we even played the grand final. |

Personally, I think their team would go much better with Flano at hooker and Corby at lock. Having seen Flano completely dismantle Camden from Dummy half at Thirlmere in the final round, it'd be crazy to play him anywhere but 9 in any team. Also Corby is a tremendous player, but his toughness and crunching defence would see him adapt to lock with no trouble whatsoever. And I think this has plenty of substance. Heard it straight from one of the main men at Camden. Edited by foal, Sep 18 2013, 08:40 PM.

Would love to see this happen, but would be extremely doubtful. They have tried in the past and could not even build a commitee, let alone a first grade team. They have tried in the past, trying to peal players from collies and ESA wiTh no success. Rumour has it that doggies girl will no longer be at the club, so that alone a big blow to the club. Hold The same sentiments as Orana and hope Appin is in the comp no matter the outcome, but realistically don't think they can format a 1st grade squad for a few years yet, sponsorship or there lack off will hold them back. Good luck to them if they can pull it off. Just to add to the APpin rumour mill, heard that Debono from collies was trying to rally teams for there and also ESA also to enter 2nd division team through there also as they were trying that this year .

Both through the middle would be dangerous for a lot of sides. Running off the back of Cashmere would be sheer mayhem. And I think you've summed it up well there, Flanno's running game from hooker is what gives him value, Oakdale never really saw enough from him at 13 and Corbs is just a real tough bastard. So already looks as if Camden to be the big improvers next year then? Things already getting interesting. |

Picton grab Group 6 glory http://www.wollondillyadvertiser.com.au/story/1782285/picton-grab-group-6-glory/?cs=1678 By Sean Cunningham ![]() A MISSED conversion attempt separated the Group 6 first grade rugby league grand finalists when Picton won this season's premiership with a 24-22 victory over Mittagong on Sunday at Kirkham Park, Elderslie. Although the score suggests a close game, Picton would have felt hard done by if they had lost this game. The Magpies had two tries disallowed and were on the wrong end of a lopsided penalty count. Picton looked home and hosed when they led 24-12 with seven minutes remaining. But they gave Mittagong a glimmer of hope when they let the Lions cross their line twice late in the game. Picton were in front on the scoreboard when Michael Lett opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Blake Matthews added Picton's second try just eight minutes before the break. Mittagong kept themselves in the game with a Warwick Carter try two minutes later. Kiel Shepherd was sin-binned for an alleged late tackle on the kicker just minutes before the break, but Picton's defence stood resolute to hold out Mittagong until he returned to the field. Ben Baker opened the scoring for Mittagong in the second half and his conversion locked the score at 12-12. Picton broke the deadlock when Man of the Match Tim Dengate scampered about 25 metres to plant the ball between the posts to give Picton a six-point buffer with 19 minutes left. They extended the margin to two converted tries to lead 24-12 before two tries in a late surge from Mittagong took the game down to the wire. The kicker missed the final conversion, a miss that gave Picton the impetus to hang on for the last two minutes. A jubilant but "mentally tired" Picton coach Gary Dowse endured a nerve-racking last few minutes to see his boys in black and white lift the trophy. Minutes after the game had ended Dowse said the premiership win was "still sinking in". "I'm just so happy for the boys," he said. "The whole forward pack . . . everyone in the team put in a big effort. "We've improved every week. "We shut down their halves and I thought we contained them pretty well." Dowse believes his team's winning ways in the playoffs had played an important role in the premiership win. "Mittagong only played one game in the finals and our do-or-die games seemed to help us," he said. Dowse is keen to be at the helm next season. "I would like to coach the boys again next year but I'll see what the wife says," he said. Other grand final results — Under 18-2: Appin 20, Picton 10. See your ad here Under 18-1: Camden 30, Mittagong 20. Second Division: Robertson 8, Warragamba 4. Reserves: Oakdale 35, Mittagong 16. |

What a great day of footy on Sunday! Probably the best Grand Final day I've been to (Seniors) .... I feel for Scotty Borg as I believe Mittagong were the benchmark all year and came up short, but on the same note I am extremely happy for Picton as from Day 1 this season I knew they would come good at the right time.... Great to see Oakdale win in Reserve Grade also as it will be the end of an era with Mark Georgiades retiring at age 46 .... and the premiership will put icing on the cake for a great man and a long time servant of Group 6 Rugby League ...
