This is a fair discussion but over the Christmas period- who is the best player that you have seen play in Group 6? My memory goes back to the early 80s. Martin Quinn, player 1992 and 1993 captain- coach of The Oaks, front rower from Canterbury, was very good. Stan Presdee for Appin in 1994 (had just been cut from the Magpies so was a long way in front physically from the rest of the comp) had funnel webs all over him that year. Willie Newton was another who should have played a lot of grade footy.
I can only go back to the early 90's. But I will say this: Anyone that does not say Willie Newton is the best player in our group in the past two decades is either lying to themselves or has rocks in their head. I could easily be biased and say Gary Dowse, Simon Cox or Justin Brooker it I wanted to be biased towards Picton. But, as great as they were, they're not even close to Willie. Number 2 - Travis Baker. Harder than Uluru and very skillful. Number 3 - Andrew Willis. Genius. From what I've seen since 2000 #1= travis baker Camden #2=willie Newton thirlmere #3=mick Dodson goulburn #4=matt Hamilton narellan #5=Jamie Newton thirlmere Couldn't leave any of them out in my opinion

He had the most influence, and game changing ability of anyone ive ever seen out here.

Try and keep some credibility on this forum. You guys (If it is more than one of you) are really coming off stupid, keep your childish squabbles on Facebook. I don't know what you Easts guys are up to, whether it's trying to build a siege mentality of us aganist the world, but you are damaging the image of your club. I'm not the boss man at Oakdale, but i do sign the cheques, and i can guarantee this, if he is getting what you say he is getting, it's not coming out of our pocket. We don't have that sort of money. So enough said, move on, and sort your battles out on the field.

In my time playing / watching Group 6 I would say top 5 would be:
1. Willie Newton - could change a game.
2. Matt Hamilton - A massive human, extremely hard to contain.
3. Mick Dodson - Didn't stop, was the backbone of the Goulburn team
4. Travis Baker - Had the skills and could stop anyone with a well timed hit.
5. Jimmy Newton - Lightning, I think he still holds the try scoring records.
I'm sure everyone has an opinion but the quality from 2000 - 2006 was a great time to watch Group 6.

You boys from easts need to wake up to yourselves. The fighting is beyond a joke, and none of us really give a do-do. I can't see Oakdale signing Brad up for that much money, an I believe tc when he says that. This forum is to talk about the great footy that Group 6 produces and the news from clubs. Not bitching about one another. Now leave all the bullshit for the field and let's get on with talking about the Group 6 2013 season.

Good idea to start a new thread on this discussion, " best signings & imports in group 6".
Thoughts ? I think you're right Disco- lets move it into the history thread started by foal for the 100 years of G6 this season. Possibly expand it to include a discussion on G6's best teams.

I don't know who Ministrone or these other blow in's are, they don't represent the views of the Eagles, where ever and who ever Brad goes to play for we wish him well, there maybe a number of players that will look forward in playing against him, but he won't be back at our club.
Sorry TC for the statements made against your club, we see your club as a very well run club and we look forward at keeping the great rivalry we have on the field.

The English import Brad Hopkins is that same player that played 2nd Divison over there . The same player that played at the Eagles a few years ago .
well 520 a win or 200 per loss, he must be a descent player surely??? i mean he played in england for christ sake ??? BIGGEST PLAYER SIGNING IN GROUP 6 HISTORY 100% Definately not the highest paid player in Group 6 nor the biggest player signing in history lol.......
