Minestrone you a a dead set joke! BIG jay could of left for reason's such as there are 6 or 7 boys out playing with us, that played in his team when they won the gf 2 years consecutive.! An could won't to link back up with them! It's not always the dramatic way that you seem to always think:

So ESA/appin to play thirds was plan all along , Whiteman at 1 session ESA captain/coach on a cruise Con left to mull over what's left. Only 15 or so training appin to fill void in thirds make a 6 team comp is the mail. Jay wanted to play 1st with his mates not thirds with ESA

you cant help but think that i suppose. was always going to be a tough ask in my opinion. if coaches arent showin up that prob wont help.
from what i have heard (reasonably reliable) they had some good players lined up but not enough.
Spanos agreed to assist until end of jan and then make a call on what he was doing. I cant see him staying on if they dont get a 1st grade.

Hopefully they have enough to get at least 1 team on the park.

Also pretty good word that Camden are looking the goods. I really think picton and canden will be the big improvers this year.

Any teams have trials lined up?

It will be a big task for Dennis to captain/coach but I hope it works out I don't want to see another team fold. Best of luck to him I'd text him but I just ran out of credit. :D

Reeves calls plays again

Reunited: Oakdale players Nick Crouch (left) and Ty O'Brien (right) welcomed Brendon Reeves as their new coach. They are planning for success in the club's 50th anniversary year this season. Picture: Jonathan Ng

A YEAR in the rugby league wilderness has refreshed Brendon Reeves, who has been welcomed back as Oakdale's Group 6 first grade coach this season.

Reeves took a break from coaching last year, leaving the club soon after steering the Workers to the first grade premiership in 2011.

He takes over from John Stanley.

The former Illawarra Steelers NRL player, who admitted to having "cut ties" with the club, is keen to add another premiership to Oakdale's trophy cabinet.

"I was still friends with many of them at Oakdale and there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then," Reeves said.

"From what I heard, the club was disappointed with the results last season.

"I was contacted by the club and asked if I was available and interested in going around again.

"I'm very excited being back although there's a lot of hard work ahead."

Reeves will be assisted by Jason Hazelton, a former Camden coach who is also the former Campbelltown Eagles' assistant coach.

Oakdale's first meeting with the reigning premiers sets up an intriguing encounter, given the Workers' connection to the Eagles.

Hard-working Brad Hopkins will face his former team the Eagles in Oakdale's colours.

Reeves praised the Eagles' successful 2012 season but is confident his team can rise to the occasion and lower their colours.

"Campbelltown Eagles had a wonderful achievement last season and you have to take your hat off to them," he said. "But they hold no fear for us.

"We've got a bit of a link with the Eagles with people who have been associated with them in the past, so it's going to be interesting when we play them. Jason Hazelton's intimate knowledge of the Eagles will help us a lot."

Although Reeves said his team would be "fired up for each and every encounter", he realises his opponents will present a difficult challenge in every round.

"I can't think of any team that will give us an easy game," Reeves said.

Reeves, who is this season's NSW Schoolboys under-15 coach, was buoyed about players who have returned to the Workers.

"Ben Fryer is one of them — he didn't play at all last year and I rate him the best second rower in the competition," Reeves said.

"Tom Moon, who only played one or two games last year, is back and we've signed a new halfback, Cameron Bruce, who played with Thirroul in the Illawarra comp last year.

"We've made some critical gains and we've assembled a good squad.
