Jets pack power on the paddock By Sean Cunningham March 12, 2013, 2:03 p.m. http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/story/1358339/jets-pack-power-on-the-paddock/?cs=1562 ![]() We’re ready for a new season: Narellan coach Daryn Fallshaw (front) with players (from left) Ryan Crocker, Shannon Gallant and Rocky Trimarchi. Picture: Simon Bennett NARELLAN’S Group 6 first grade rugby league team’s bid to win the premiership has been boosted with the signing of some talented players, notably former NRL player Shannon Gallant. The 27-year-old made his NRL debut for Wests Tigers in 2007 and played 12 games before joining North Queensland Cowboys. He played in nine games during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Gallant, a fullback known for his speed, played as a Campbelltown Kangaroos junior and joined Western Suburbs Magpies as a teenager. Jets coach Daryn Fallshaw described Gallant as one of a few key players the team would rely on for success. ‘‘We have recruited strongly with Shannon and Corey Shields from the north coast, as well as some much-needed size up front,’’ Fallshaw said. ‘‘We kept all of the players who we wanted to keep from last year’s squad including Rocky Trimarchi. ‘‘Rocky will captain again. ‘‘The players have got respect for him. ‘‘And Shannon, on and off the field, has been awesome. ‘‘We also have David McDonald, who is a very underrated player.’’ Fallshaw said the team had recruited some much-needed bulk as well as talent. ‘‘It was a new side last season,’’ he said. ‘‘We matched teams for the first 20 to 25 minutes, then they brought monsters off the bench. ‘‘We just didn’t have the size to match them. ‘‘This year we have the size — and they won’t just be big, they’ll be fit, mobile players as well.’’ Fallshaw has taken measures to ensure his players are in peak condition for the start of the season. He believes training sessions at Hydro Fit Gym, Narellan and some input from South West Physio has been advantageous for his players. ‘‘We’ve been utilising their cross-fit gym which will ensure our players are as fit and strong as possible,’’ Fallshaw said. ‘‘Last season we started with some enthusiasm with our wins but the bubble burst and it cost us a few games. ‘‘This year we’ll have strength and fitness on our side to compete with every side in the competition. ‘‘The off-season started for us before Christmas and we’ve been training hard to ensure we can compete with the likes of Eagles, Mittagong and Oakdale. The Group 6 season starts on the weekend of March 23 and 24. |

Jets are doing nicely at the moment but would be well behind Eagles, Mittagong, Thirlmere and Oakdale who always have the edge. Picton and City recruited nicely so it will be a good competitive season and whilst many wrote The Oaks off I hear they have plenty of numbers and a win over Thirlmere, be it a trial, suggests they will be in it with a shot. |

See the group is trying to make all clubs with 18's play their 18's games on a Friday night, separate from the other senior sides. This absolutley ridiculous. Most clubs dont have an abundance of volunteers to spread across 2 days over the weekend. What about clubs that dont have sufficient lighting (i know its not many) but do they get a home in the proposed format??? The group arent even listening to the clubs. From all responses I had seen when it was first proposed only 1 club liked the idea at that was Mittagong. Why wouldnt they, they would get all home games for Highland teams until Mossy lights are upgraded. All clubs need to make sure if they dont want it to voice their opinion. It would be a last resort but maybe boycott the games, withdraw side, drastic I know but the clubs run the group. The executive cant just make important decisions like this and ignore the majority of clubs |

Other big news for the Dragons, Scott geddes who was on board with the Dragons as a Fitness Trainer has now agreed that he will be playing. Starting with the 1st game against Mittagong. He has said he will be available for all games this season, and hopefully he remains injury free. Dragons have also signed a quality half from Wentworthville and a young Rep fullback from far south coast For all the doubters that Hindy wouldnt be at the Dragons I can confirm that he is officially registered with the club, even announced it on TV over the weekend. He wont be available for all games but is very hopefully of at least half the games if not more. All players a massive coup for the club. Bring on the season and the first game at the hallowed Community Oval |

could be the straw that finally breaks the camels back? This doesn't affect our club, so i won't weigh in on it, but i think management were lucky to survive after they ignored clubs and entered into the combined competition back in 2009. Ignoring the pleas of clubs over this may see action. The management says that they dont read this forum, but a word of advice, i would start listening to the concerns of the clubs before the phrase "NO CONFIDENCE" begins to be uttered. |

Are they fair dinkum, 18s on a Friday night??? Let's make volunteers and volunteers the key word set up an extra day a week, also why split the 3 grade system which exsposes 18s to the senior club culture? Absolute ludicrous, ever since the executive was brought in group 6 has become on par with it's cousin the Wests Junior League. Clubs will boycott and the Group honchos will be out of work. |

Surprisingly, the last time Wests JL had a decent U/18's comp was when it was played on Friday nights. Big crowds up at Townson Oval, those were the days. |

Yes, it absolutely is serious. The group management has gone ahead with this plan after ignoring the responses from clubs. Mittagong were the only club in favour. All other clubs that responded were against the idea. As TC said, the last time they went directly against the wishes of the clubs was the 09 joint competition. We all remember how that debacle turned out don't we? And, knowing that the group management does read this forum, I'll say it would be very naive of them to asume that this is over. Below is the letter they sent out to clubs: 13th March, 2013 Group 6 Clubs The Group 6 Senior Management and the Referees Association met last night to discuss the proposed Friday Night Under 18 Competition. There was unanimous agreement that we should proceed with the concept. The concerns of some of our Clubs opposing the proposal were considered and noted, however the positives of such a move dominated all of the negatives as follows: - The referees will be able to cater for all nineteen [19] games each weekend, given they will be spread over the weekend and Friday evening. The notion of having Club officials run Lines and control the First grade interchange was rejected. - The drop of 16 to 19 year olds State wide has increased rather than declined over recent years - Due to weekend employment and interests in other sports providing Friday night rugby league may see players return to our sport as well as possible attraction of new players to rugby league - We believe that gate revenue on Friday evening with two games will exceed the revenue from an 11.30am game on Sunday morning - These games will free up 18 year olds if required for other grades over the weekend - There will be no charge for 18s to attend other games over the weekend upon presentation of their pass used on the Friday night Adjust if you wish Grahame Edited by foal, Mar 14 2013, 08:26 PM.

I had heard that they did a "dummy run" on paper last week to appoint referees to games as if it was a normal round - juniors & seniors - and they could not provide referees to over all games over the weekend. Using the Friday night proposal they were able to cover all games. |
