MRT6... MT Annan has won the U18s back 2001 under Nigel Drury then I think 2002 or 2003 they one Won the 2nd Division under Nigel .YES The club is on the Rise.. Yeah the club did win the premiership in 01 and came close in 02 and 03 as you say. We Lso made in 06 but lost to goulburn, had a great team that year, with the likes of Mahn Darley, Chris Haywood, Eli Pilay, David McDonald and Myself. And the 18's won it in 2011 also. So I think the Knights would do well if the club got a strong team.

Some over-rated players here. Without sounding too nasty, Johnson, Trent, Wheeler, Brinky, Gentle, Pullo, Jensen, Quinn, don't really belong in this side. Filipaina did very little for Bowral. The best player IMO has been Willis, followed by Taylor. The best pure front rowers in the group have been, Bryan Millthorpe, John Bourke, Steve Stonham, Robert Stone and big Hammo. Take your pick. Enough to scare the do-do out of any opposition. Again, I don't mean to be critical, they were good players alright, just not quite in the same league. Abit Harsh He got them to the Grand final that year! BUT CONSIDERING THE AFTERMARTH (Still be felt by some people today) PROBERLY NOT WORTH IT
Another guy Bowral had that i rated was Englishmen Brad Walker.

Mt Annan Should be a force if they could get the right people in place.

Alright, I'm going to go one further and pick the best group 6 team I've seen. Early 90's to now:
1. Jamie Newton - Thirlmere - Narellan (Ridiculous try scoring record. Over 40 touch downs one season) 2. Justin Miller - Thirlmere - (Struggled to pick a winger here. Miller was all class his first few seasons. Made Country twice) 3. Justin Brooker - Picton (Unbelievable balance, speed, footwork and great fend. Was better at fullback) 4. Willie Newton - Thirlmere - Narellan (Most influential player and best 5/8 I've seen, also played some centre. Willis has to make the team so Willie shuffles out) 5. Dean Johnsen - Picton - Mittagong (Strongest and fastest player I ever saw at this level. 105kg wrecking ball) 6. Andrew Willis - Camden (Genius. Could do it all) 7. Peter Gentle - Camden (Great organiser and ball player. Captain-coach of the rams 97-98 at the start of their golden era) 8. Mitch Newton - Camden (100+ NRL games speaks for itself) 9. Robbie Mears - Thirlmere - Narellan (Was once nominated for the dally m hooker of the year award) 10. Matt Hamilton - Narellan - Camden (He must be the biggest rugby league player anywhere, ever. Seriously) 11. Gary Dowse - Picton (The most skillful ball-playing big forward I've seen) 12. Mick Dodson - Goulburn (Had the misfortune of playing against him. Was like trying to tackle a rock) 13. Travis Baker - Camden (Best front on defence I've seen and great attacking player)
I left Beau Scott out because he only played 18s here, but obviously he'd walk in to the centres or back row.
Honourable mentions: Willie Monds - Picton - Amazing footwork and speed. Possibly better than Jamie Newton. Darren Pullinger - Oakdale - Picton - Giant centre/fullback with incredible ball skills. Nigel Daniels - Picton - Centre - Played his best footy before coming to group 6. Made country twice while with Thirroul. Trent Anderson - Thirlmere - Oakdale - Great organiser. Ultra competitive. Nearly went for him at halfback over Gentle. Wes Patton - Thirlmere - Very quick and skillful. Dave Lowe - Oakdale - One of the best forwards I ever played against. Adam Wheeler - Camden - Tall, skillful, good footwork, great offload. Vaughan Fraser - Narellan - Was THE big man when I was a teenager watching footy. Brian Taylor - Oakdale - Didn't see much of him, but plenty of good judges tell me he's as good a centre as there's been at this level. Fathered two pretty good ones in Jae and Nick too. Willie McDonald - Moss Vale - Quality forward. Very tough. Matt Brinkworth - Thirlmere - Picton. Was not far off Robbie Mears. Shame they played at the same club at the same time. Peter Jensen - Thirlmere - Lacked consistency, but at his best was as damaging as any other forward I've seen at this level.
Of the current crop Wade Dunley, Sam Hoare, Scott Borg, Chris Young, Bart Masters would all be great players in any team, any era out here.
Good side, can't say you any wrong there, i can't remember seeing the 7. I did see Ando, and he was good, and he was just a man that the opposition wanted to kill, goal kicker as well. I think Ronny Jones in the early 2000's particularly when he was at The Oaks and Narellan, it seemed like everything he did turned up trumps. Honorable mentions though, i think there are better hookers Have to agree with you TC better hookers then Mears and Brinkworth, best Hooker to run around G 6 was FEATHERS Terry Broadhead pretty sure he retired in 93 after him and Taylor led The Workies to Premiiership victory that year under coach Marino.Feathers hit like a sledge Hammer and was a true hardman Smoked enough bungers for 10 men too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the old committee rip them off? The clubs had a few committees that have ripped them off. That's why they always seem to fail when in seniors. I have tried to get together a committee who I know will do the right thing for the club and get them going strong. But when it comes time for the AGM, Mt Annan always put the people who screwed them over back in place. I have wanted to have Mt Annan to be apart of the seniors comp since I was a junior, as none of my mates and I never wanted to leave, but things happen. And I am going to do anything to get the club back on track!

BUT CONSIDERING THE AFTERMARTH (Still be felt by some people today) PROBERLY NOT WORTH IT Another guy Bowral had that i rated was Englishmen Brad Walker.
Which player are you talking about? Who was footy shorts harsh on? TC. Highlander was talking about Filipaina. Considering that he was a former Test player for N.Z., and considering the money he was allegedly paid, he was a let down, IMO. Bowral's GF run that year had more to do with the Murchies and G. Tutt and Neil Howe, Allport, Walker etc.

A few people nearly lost there homes which was the start of the end for Bowral IMO.

2002 they won 2nd division and in 2003 made the Grand final in Reserve grade loosing to Picton. That was the time when everyone thought Mt anna would be a force!!! Mt Annan Should be a force if they could get the right people in place.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the old committee rip them off?
I don"t what year you are talk about . But I know of 2 the committee one was the Vice president,an Treasurer though the early 2000-2003 I KNOW was not them to of trust worthy people I KNOW. The year I played first grade there none of the players got payed a cent ...

I cant believe Brett Smith the Oaks Tigers has been left out of this team or let alone not a mention ex canterbury grade player nothing he couldnt do with o footy . unbelievable skills and quick exhilaration and could kick Goals as well. What's not to believe? It's not as if any consulation went in to me putting this together. I spent half an hour going through players that I remember. That's all. Now that you mention Brett Smith, yeah he was probably up there, but he was definitely a long way past his best by the time I was in senior footy. I remember the old guy with the world class mullet, who played 5/8 in attack and then shuffled out to the wing in defence because his knees were gone. Like you said, no doubt he was a great player. But, even in his prime, was he as good as Newton or Willis?

Olsen had lost too much weight to be effective. Didn't seem to try that hard either. Wasn't Shane McKellar in that side also?
