I am not sure where this was meant to go but thought it would be an interesting discussion. Without going into the details with the WSDJRL and their break away from WSDRL there has been allot of talk about how bad the competition is now, how its affecting the area's junior rugby league etc - I would just like to know let's say that we had a magic wand, a clean slate to work on/build with etc what would we do differently, how would we set up a Junior Rugby League comp in the area that would really make it a competition worth watching, supporting etc. As I said this isn't here to troll, I wasn't sure where it should go etc but I was really just curious mainly because everyone has something to say about WSDJRL but not many "fixes" are there. So like I said - we have a magic wand, a clean slate, and a big bank balance - how do we fix Junior Rugby League in the area? |

I understand people on here are scared to put your thoughts out there in fear of retribution. Just thought it would be a good idea to brainstorm to see what we, supporters, club officials, players etc wanted to improve the junior competition so hopefully someone from WSDJRL would read it and may actually stand up for "us". Feel free to send it to me in a private message if you don't want your name put out there. |

This may sound a little biased and it probably is, but I think one of the issues is the lack of the number of good senior teams to aspire to. All Junior clubs should be trying to get senior teams. The kids need to have a goal and if your local club has senior teams that show interest in their juniors and these kids grow up and cant make reps then they have good seniors to aspire to. The other is the lack of interest from our local media. They should have articles photos and match fixtures every week. And more web promotion from Wests itself. The websites need an upgrade and all data entered at the earliest possible stage on a minimum of a weekly basis 2-3 times a week if info come's to hand. |

I think for the Jnr clubs to expand to Snrs there would need to be a stearing committee formed a year before taking the field. This gives you time to see if it can be run in a good manner with the right amount of people not one or two diehards who burn out half way through In this time the SNR club could raise sponsorship start getting the jnr players old and new to sign up or commit. Just getting a full hard core supporter base to man canteens Gates and tables can be hard get these people in and move from there. Just some random thoughts for the convo Cheers |

Some great posts there. I am always interested in what junior clubs/ people are thinking. I think it is important for some senior teams to step up and show that playing for them is something juniors should aspire to - and think it is an important step for the future of JRL. I have to admit though, although I know sponsorship is important to all of us, I think some of the shirts look like walking billboards. I have to admit I roll my eyes when I see a certain club in the area with their players walking through the local shopping centre with their shirts on - they have like 6 BIG logos on the front of their shirt. And my thought was - yes it costs everyone money to run a club we all know that, but what if we offered sponsors something slightly different than just logo on the shirt, and started to really improve the club by other means. I mean 6 logos on the front (and not talking about the back) is a bit rediculous. If we clean up our act at home, and improved our clubs, some of us may find that with a little bit of a shake up we could be in a better position than we think. There is too much at the moment of "This is how it has been done for x amount of years and it has worked fine, so we will keep it that way". It's kinda like Australia's foreign aid budget - yes we have to help those who suffer, but we should also help those at home first. Meaning if we cleaned up our clubs and treated them like clubs and players as players instead of walking billboards, stepped back and looked at the bigger picture of what we could achieve (such as expanding to senior teams, or aligning with senior teams) and focused on that we could all achieve it by dedicating some of our efforts towards it - instead of attempting to find the next business to plaster on the remaining 2 cm on our shirts. Parents of the players love the clubs that is why they register their child in each and every year, why not let them know you want to expand to seniors and therefore throughout the course of the year you will be selling hats etc etc with all money going towards your senior team you will be amazed how many will actually support you. Just my opinion off course. Edited by rsgroup, Sep 17 2013, 05:53 PM.
