Great idea out of the AGM last night, was for a G6 team of the Century to be unveiled at some time in 2014. Full criteria is uncertain as yet, whether they have to have played a season of G6 1st Grade or if they can just have been in the junior comps before being 'whisked away to the Big Smoke'...
But looks like 'imports' like Robert Stone, Johnny Greaves, Herb Narvo etc won't be considered.
Some early nominations: City: Ron Kain, Kevin Le Jeune, Kim Patrick Moss Vale: Johnny Burke, ?Chris Cumming?- was he a local?, Owen Saunders, Tim Moule, Shane Green Picton: Beau Scott, Gary Dowse, Willie Monds, Barry McGlynn Oakdale- Gary Dowling The Oaks- Noel Chesham, Jeff Downing Camden- Brian Taylor, Jeremy Lillis, Reg Whitby Mittagong- John Cole, Barry Andrews, Dave Elliott, Bowral- Adrian Haertsch, Grahame Murchie, Graham Tutt, ?Neil Howe- local? Robertson- J. Whatman, P. Bruem
Collegians/ The Oaks/ Mittagong: Scott Borthwick Campbelltown Warriors: Wayne Charlton Ingleburn Bulldogs: Glen Richardson
Local Coaches: Grahame Andrews (Mittagong), Noel Woods (Thirlmere), Gary Dowse (Picton), Jim 'Doc' McLean (Bowral), Nipper Goldsmith (Mittagong)
I've got no idea on the period 1914- 65, so a big undertaking on whoever gets selected to put it together.

Locals only definitely complicates things. That rules out the best players I've seen in the group, e.g Willie Newton, Travis Baker and Andrew Willis. The best locals I can think of from my time include names like Gary Dowse, Justin Brooker and Simon Cox from Picton, Nathan Sutton and Adam Rae from Thirlmere, Adam Wheeler from Camden, Warwick Carter and Shane Martin from Mittagong, Matt Mcbeth at Oakdale, the Pes brothers from the Oaks. After that I'm really struggling to think. I assume several members of our 66 Clayton cup winning side would be highly regarded. Barry McGlynn and Frank Ryan spring to mind. Others from before my time I'd look at based on reputation are Brian Taylor, Scott Borthwick, John Burke.
The best team INCLUDING imports from my time (approx 1995-2013) would be something like this:
1. Michael Lett (Picton) 2. Dean Johnson (Picton) 3. Justin Brooker (Picton) 4. Willie Newton (Thirlmere) 5. Justin Miller (Thirlmere) 6. Andrew Willis (Camden) 7. Scott Borg (Mittagong) 8. Matt Hamilton (Narellan) 9. Robbie Mears (Thirlmere) 10. Mitch Newton (Camden) 11. Gary Dowse (Picton) 12. Mick Dodson (Goulburn) 13. Travis Baker (Camden)
Not many locals in there. I'd need a lot more thinking time to come up with a best locals team. It depends on how they qualify too. Does Beau Scott get a run? He played juniors and 18s at Picton but then went to Illawarra Steelers and onward and upward.

You could throw Damian Kennedy from Camden in the mix, dynamic backrower! Vaughen Frazer dominate forward during 90's. Troy Wozniak played a few seasons with the roosters. At his peak Adam Doyle from Narellan and The Oaks. Thirlmere forward Asaki Misa great player. Inoke Amone of Camden and Narellan was a real handful! Peter Jensen front rower for Thirlmere. The list could go on...

Talk to anyone in rugby league circles here in moss vale & southern highlands in general that the best player ever to come out of moss vale is definitely John Burke. All the old heads say he is and always will be the best player they have either played with or against. Was the youngest to debut playing first grade at 15 and played up into his 40s. If moss vale were to have at least member in the team of the century it would definitely be JB.

I'm sure Vaughan Fraser won the group 6 player of the year 3 times not 2.
Best half I ever played against Scott mcgurran hands down should be another honorable mention , remember a forward by the name of Richie Connell played for Narellan & oakdale under frank merino thought he was pretty good too.

He was the difference. A step above everyone else out there. It's no fluke he made the nsw cup team of the year 3 years running. Wayne Bennett didn't take Rhys Robinson to the dragons with him a few years back because they already had Darius Boyd and Letty there as his understudy. That was quoted by Bennett in the paper earlier this year. And I can't argue with your assessment of Ronnie Jones. But I made my mind up that Borgy is as good as any playmaker I've seen around here after he won the game for the lions against us in the final round this year.

This year will define Scotty Borg, nothing less than a premiership will judge him. Unfortunate but true

And realistically, you'd need at least one premiership under your belt to get a look in, regardless of talent. That brings me back to Peter Gentle, Ronnie Jones, and even Jason Mackinnon as the most influential halves in my time. Trent Anderson was very good too, but I don't think he won a premiership.

I don't disagree with you much foal, but 1 & 7 I do Both are extreme talents and I fear that we have not even scratched the surface with Letty Jimmy Newton has a far superior record And the most influential half I saw especially in the early 2000's was Ron Jones, he was a freak at The Oaks & Narellan and then still won a comp in his twilight at Oakdale.
Jimmy Newton was outstanding. Until this year I'd go with him every time. Obviously biased, but now Letty is the first player I'd pick. I watched the grand final again the other day.
No doubting either one of their skills, especially Letty. Do many remember how much of an impact Pete had when he first came out? Longevity and results speak volumes to me. This year will define Scotty Borg, nothing less than a premiership will judge him. Unfortunate but true
Good point on both actually. Longevity definitely helps. What about Trimbole from Oakdale??

Trimbole- Picton before that. Absolutely. What about his running style, couldn't lay a finger on him. Deadeye goal kicker, field goal specialist. Scott McGurren was great to watch like that as well.

I remember Richie Connell from Oakdale he was a machine, signed with Balmain the year after winning 93 premiership with workies. Also remember a centre Joey Lole from Oakdale during mid 90's. Most damaging centre on his day I have seen. In 2002 The Oaks had a giant fullback who was also lightning quick Trent Croft I think his name was.

Yes, Ivan Trimboli was a genius. The first Picton player I was ever truly in awe of. I remember watching him on Sundays when I was 13-14. Scott McGurren was great too, very similar.

Then Ben Roberts would have to get a look in too I know Roberts is a narellan junior but I didn't think he played 18s. Wasn't he already with an nrl club by then? He and Bryce Poisel played in the halves together for whoever it was they were signed with at the time (I'm thinking parramatta, could be wrong). Poisel didn't play 18s in group 6, so I assumed Benny didn't either.

Oakdale had a guy named Sam Tapa, could break a tackle. I watched a bit of Appin between 92-95, Stan Presdee was unbelievable in 94 as he spearheaded the Warriors to the GF that season. Not sure what he was like after that. Mick Kirkman, who'd played lower grades at Saints & Wests was also very good for Appin, worthy of mention.

Ritchie & Rory were Ashcroft/ EVU juniors, both fine players in that era for Oakdale & I think Rory finished playing at Narellan. Trent Croft followed the Doyley magical mystery tour, with Mick Doyle from Cabramatta premiership winning team of 1998. Very strong carry if that's the guy I remember.
