Where abouts are you Gal? I know around my area there are some in Picton, Thirlmere, Tahmoor. I'm pretty sure there are selected newsagents in all area that have them, but not all newsagents. The editor of the mag could tell you exactly where, I'd suggest hitting him up on Facebook. |

Well, I'll do my best to defend the title then! But, honestly I'm not sure how competitive we'll be yet. We still have plenty of numbers and that's my main concern. It was hard to see 6 or 8 good young blokes not getting much of a go in Reggie's last year even though they trained the house down. Basically we'll see who is left over when the reserve grade squad is picked for the first comp game. Then hopefully we can organise some trials for our thirds. There will be some handy players running around in our thirds, but it's hard to know how they'll compare against the other teams yet. |

NEW LOOK DRAGONS IN CENTENARY YEAR http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/2147957/new-look-dragons-in-centenary-year/?cs=264more ![]() Damian Barton and Andrew Bowie will be the senior coaches at Moss Vale Dragons for the 2014 season. Photo by Lauren Strode CELEBRATING 100 years as a club, Moss Vale senior Dragons has mixed things up a bit in 2014. The club will not field a first grade team this year, but will have reserve grade and under-18s. Andrew Bowie, who coached first grade last year will now take charge of the under-18s, with Damian Barton as reserve grade coach. Barton said numbers were good at the moment, but new players were also welcome. After a disappointing season in 2013, he hoped the Dragons could be competitive this year. "Last year we weren't competitive in anything really so we need to start off being competitive. "We don't want to set our goals too high, just be competitive, build from there and give somewhere for the local players to come through to," he said. Moss Vale will start the season away against Campbelltown City Kangaroos and Barton said structure and ball control would be they key for his side early in the season. He will also be looking to Dylan King (halfback), Chris Barton (hooker) and Anthony Phelps (front row) to stand up and lead the team around the park this year. The under-18s enjoyed some success last year, making it through to the semi-finals before they were knocked out. Bowie said the side had the potential to win the premiership this year and would start its campaign against Shellharbour at a trial match tomorrow. "I've coached these guys before in previous years so everyone's pretty familiar with each other so that's half the battle," he said. "With the way things went at the club last year they're pretty keen to turn things around and try build the place back up again." Bowie said he wanted to build the team's season around its defence. "We'll be looking to build on that and kick off our first three games at least (with a win) and be around the top of the table." Anyone wanting to play for the Dragons can go to training at Community Oval on Tuesday and Friday nights at 6.15pm or visit the Moss Vale Dragons website. Edited by disco stu, Mar 15 2014, 11:37 PM.

You don't wanna report that Picton won the 9's? Darryn Falshaw just resigned because of an incident with a trainer? I think he has a thicker skin than that, surely not! And what happened with the Bulls & Wombats? Elaborate a little please |

I won't make a prediction, but the Thirlmere v Picton reggies game should be a cracker. Lots of banter between the 2 squads already. There's been talk of big money bets on the result, some of the locals are that opinionated about it. Respective coaches Sutton and Davies have known each other for 30 odd years, work at the same pit, and enjoy a healthy love/hate relationship. The talk has been free-flowing. With the old heads playing for the roosters they probably boast a collective 1000 1st grade games of experience between them. Put that against our much younger, but talented squad with a couple of quality 1st graders, who've only just started training and have to work their way into the top grade, and it should be a cracker of a game. As for the other games, I'd tip (with no great confidence): Camden over Narellan Oakdale over Oaks Kangaroos over Mossy Mitta over Warra |

Fallshaw and the trainer are good drinking mates and played for Jets together so I think you will find Daryn's name will be on the program as the Coach on Saturday night. |

What's the latest on this 'dribble' Gal? For the record Gal, the City club supports the Appin club's attempts to be included in the 2nd Division draw where the bye currently sits so they have an overage feeder team to their 1st Grade side. I can't see how turning 20 players away from the game is good for anyone. These 20 players have nowhere to go- I might be wrong, but every club has a full 1sts & Reserves now?... Further, without this feeder reserves team, it is pie in the sky to expect players 22 & 23 to hang around until Round 8/9 hoping to get a game if there are no injuries, let alone keep turning up to training. Appin needs a reserves team in which to be able to blood their U/18s as the season progresses, with a view to 2015 and into the future of their club. Without this team, Appin could well devolve as the season progresses into a similar fate that befell Ingleburn Bulldogs 2009-10 in the Combined Competition, when they played without a reserve grade to support them. We also support though the Group initiatives around Oakdale, Warragamba and Moss Vale, in trying to expedite their return to 1st Grade. Sooner we get back to 10 teams, the better. Heard Camden were the only team to snob off the season launch at bargo. Any reason behind this? |

Orana, I've heard from the Appin committee about the difficult situation they have been put in. An your correct, no team should have to turn away players. Can't comment much more on it until later in the week. |

You know Gal, in the 1981 season, G6 fielded: 10x 1st Division 1st Grade & Reserve Grade teams 8x 2nd Division 1st Grade & Reserve Grade teams 8x 3rd Division standalone teams 9x U/18 teams I feel as clubs & as a Group we should all be working together to once again achieve this success... To see Robertson run out in all 3 Grades, perhaps only in 2nd Div... Against Bargo or whomever... Means RL stays as the region's dominant code. We need to plan for 2024, 2034... 2044- what will the Group look like then? The biggest impediment to this is and always will be the short-term self interest of clubs. Clubs think for that season... An administration must plan for the now and the future. |
