How have all the other teams representing the Wests district gone in the Combined Comp. Well done to the Eagles & All Saints with the updates throughout the year but a bit of info about the other teams would be good.

RE: East Campbelltown Eagles RLFC – Media Release 7-09-2014

The Mighty East Campbelltown Eagles has gone through the first semi-final with a fantastic victory against Wentworthville Magpies in the Sydney Shield NSWRL Competition.

The 2012 Claytons Cup winning club travelled to Ringrose Park to play Wentworthville on their home soil, in previous games against the two clubs, they both had won one game each, and it was always going to be a tough encounter for the Eagles.

The Eagles came out hard and fast and was rewarded with an early try when Wayde Dunley put a little kick behind the line on the 3rd play for flying fullback Sean Connor to pounce on the ball for a try, Connor’s conversion was unsuccessful, It was that man Sean Connor again that made a break from a kick return and Chris Standing was in support and with Connor converting the two points Eagles race to a 10 nil lead at the 15 minute mark

Wenty hit back with a converted try but again the Eagles responded with a try to Philipo Sauvao and Connor missed the conversion for a score of 14-6, a couple of mistakes made by the Eagles seen Wenty capitalize with another converted try and again the score where tight at 14-12

The Eagles pulled of a fantastic set play that seen Fusi Toutai run away for a try in the corner and a great conversion from Sean Connor stretched the lead to 20-12, It was that man again Fusi Toutai that intercepted a Wentworthville pass and sprinted 60 meters to score right on the stroke of half time to give a handy lead of 26-12

The second half seen Wentworthville post first points with a converted try at the 10 minute mark, the Eagles dominated possession for the next 10 minutes and finally Wenty’s defence cracked when big PJ Hunt barged over for a try and Connor converted for the score to go 32-18, Wenty hit back with a try and Wenty’s goal kicker was kicking them from everywhere to close the gap at 32-24

A penalty in front of the posts with 8 minutes remaining seen the Eagles take the easy 2 and whine down the clock for the score to go to 34-24, Wentworthville with a minute remaining scored a converted try but it was all too late as the Eagles won 34-30 in a very entertaining game of footy

Eagles Coach Gary Potts Said “Our club has done an amazing job to get such a competitive team on the field and the players have responded playing with plenty of pride and passion, it got them over the line and such a tough game, we are so proud of the clubs achievements thus far, but our goal is that Premiership”

Best for the Eagles were: Sean Connor, Jimmy Laulilii, and Fusi Toutai

Try Scorers
Fusi Toutai 2
Sean Connor
PJ Hunt
Chris Standing
Philipo Sauvao

Goals
Sean Connor 5 from 7

Next week’s match:
The Eagles earned the week off and will play either Mounties or the Peninsula in a fortnight’s time for a spot in the 2014 Sydney Shield Grand Final

All Saints don't give up keep up the great work mate i love it you've got too good a thing to ignore there the SCC will grow and overtake G6 soon as i believe G6 is run by a group of senior citizens who have reached their use by date and should be claiming a pension, the comp no longer caters to players and is on life support. I would have stayed but the petrol bills got the better of me at the time. ;)

On Saturday the 20th of September at Lidcombe Oval, the Eagles took on the Minor Premiers Peninsula Seagulls for a position in the Grand Final.

Peninsula started like a house on fire with two quick tries in the opening 10 minutes and raced to an early 10 nil lead, the Eagles even though down 10 points started well with high completions and their attack was looking solid, they were rewarded with their first 4 pointer to Cruise Iosepha when Wayde Dunley put in a kick across field and Cruise picked up the loose ball to score and Connor converted to close the gap at 10-6

It was a double whammy for the Eagles when Philpo Sauvao tore a PCL and was down injured when Peninsula ran in their 3rd try next to the uprights to extend the lead at 16-6 at the 20 minute mark, The Eagles than pilled on huge pressure to the Peninsula line that would set the platform for the rest of the game, Peninsula with standing a barrage of attack from the Eagles before half time, Peninsula’s defence was outstanding as they held off the attack to go into the break at 16-6

The Eagles came out firing and from the first set of six Wayde Dunley had nailed a 40/20 kick that seen the Eagles score from the next set of six when Sean Connor picked up a grubbing kick to score under the post, Connor converted his own try for the Eagles to narrow the gap at 16-12, The Eagles forwards started to make huge inroads and again Peninsula was under pressure defending their line, Sam Hoare dummied near the line and then went over under the post, Connor again converted and Eagles had hit the lead 18-16,

Peninsula on the last play chanced themselves down the short side and scored in the corner to hit the lead again at 20-18, and this was turning into a cracker of a game. Eagles playing again with high completions pressured Peninsula line and fatigue had set in for the Seagulls as big Jacob Nansen crashed over for a try for the Eagles and with Connor’s conversion it was the Eagles at 24-20 with 15 minutes remaining, the Eagles didn’t let up and constant pressure from the Eagles Attack seen a penalty awarded to the Eagles and Connor kicked the Eagles to a 26-20 lead.

From here the Eagles looked unstoppable; the wind was in their wings as they charged down the field into Peninsula territory, Wayde Dunley from 38 meters out nailed a field goal to extend the lead to 27-20 with 7 minutes remaining , The Eagles defence was brutal and dominated Peninsula as they closed out the game for a stunning 27-20 victory
