It is with great sadness that the CCKRLFC announces the passing of probably its greatest ever member, Bernie ‘Poppa’ Evans OAM, aged 96.
A WWII veteran, ‘Poppa’ commenced playing with the Campbelltown Kangaroos in 1952. He had been involved with the club, in some capacity ever since that day. After retiring from playing at the tender age of 50, Poppa performed many other roles throughout the club, whether that be marking lines at the old Orana Park, helping out on gameday or maintaining meticulous records of the Club’s past.
Poppa Evans was a Life Member of the City club, Wests Leagues Club (Campbelltown), and in 1981 was awarded Group 6’s highest accolade for a volunteer- the Jim ‘Doc’ McLean Medal. Poppa was awarded by the Wests Junior League for his lifelong dedication to Rugby League.
Poppa also received an Order of Australia Medal for his dedication to the sport.
The CCKRLFC extends its deepest condolences to the Evans family.
Funeral details will be posted when announced.

How are all the club's shaping up regarding their womens tag league teams ? Moss Vale are recruiting well and are always looking for more players . Hope this concept goes well , with the ladies Australian & NZ national teams competing at the recent Auckland 9s it should give some exposure to womens league, even though locally it's tag you have to start somewhere

A lot of other groups have League tag comps for the last few years, it is extremely successful. I hope Group 6 gets right behind this comp (no pun intended).

Former Queensland Cup, Helensburgh Tigers and Moss Vale Dragons player Ryan Cullen has resigned for the 2015 season after playing with us in 2013 and missing 2014 with the club as we didn't field a 1st Grade.

Ryan brings a great deal of experience back to the club, he has the 3rd Most Tries in the Queensland Cup (with 112 at Central Queensland Comets ,Redcliffe Dolphins (Official) and Easts Tigers (Official)) and he was also a member of the Queensland Residents side.

The club is really looking forward to a great year from Ryan and all the players involved in our 2015 campaign.

I didn't want to bring it up cos to me it was only a rumour, but i've had a few people mention it to me now,
Did the Jets coach quit?
Not sure how it went down but Tuesday at training he wanted 2 players sacked for poor attitude and commitment. Thursday they were their he was gone. I know he is strong on discipline and that all players are treated equal. I don't know if the jets management is as strong
What would a club do? Stand down two of the best players cause they had a prior commitment and couldn't play the last game in the cabra 9's? Word was the coach wanted those 2 players to 'prove themselves' over the next month. Coach must have had a 'my way or the highway' attitude, which as we all know in country footy, doesn't quiet work like that no matter how professional a club wants to be.
I have been at the Jets for a lot of years in a number of roles in juniors and seniors, I thought we finally had the right man to lead us to some success and change our reputation. He wanted to give the Jets kids first opportunity to play 1st grade but looks like we've gone back to buying a comp and we all know how successful that has been for us. I watched at close range what he did with our 18's last year and have never seen a team turn around their season like they did. He should have been Narellans first priority to keep at the club. Having heard him speak to players I never heard any "my way or the highway" attitude, but he did expect discipline from his players, which I'm pretty sure works everywhere except at the Jets. I really hope we succeed this year and I'm proven wrong

I think you'll find his decision to quit had nothing to do with any players

Ron Jones going around for another year at Narellan?
rumoured to have been down at training last night talking buisness with big dash tc. There is a buzz down at narellan I haven't seen for a long time since 04 when we took it out. we are very confident of snatching that trophy off picton come September. I know most/all clubs are keeping their cards very close to the chest but with these players being our spine I think we wil be very hard to stop. I'm not 100% on who else the boys have recruited or have coming into grade but building around this group will not be too hard. this is how the jets class of 15 should Take shape IMO

I would assume Jermaine haul will get first crack at 9 a very capable young player. We may still need a strike centre but like I said I'm not 100% sure who clint, dash and co have recruited to fill 3&4. anyone else dare to give an insight into their squads to keep this forum interesting?

Yeah the clearance came through last night for Ron.
I'm sure it will spark some conversation.
He served our club well for many years, and his experience helped us beat East Campbelltown in the 2011 Grand Final.
Good to see him still giving it a crack

Dragons first grade side starting to come together. With the recent signing of Luke Roberts (Warilla) and Nathan Price (Glbn Workers) things are looking up. Also heard that a front rower is also coming up from Warilla. Not sure if it was Luke Roberts that played for Country with Payney but if it wasn't, it means the other forward that's signing did. Here's hoping. The pack for the Dragons is starting to take shape with these guys plus Dylan Readman at 9 , Ryan Cullen at 7 plus the rumoured return of Josh Champion, Ben Murchie and Co, the Dragons might surprise few. Still very much a rebuilding year around the juniors but adding these types of players adds confidence to the kids.

Looks like jets coming together brilliantly won't be a tuffer set of forwards in the comp n with jonesy guiding them around they will be right there at the pointy end of the season. Should be year to break the drought

Jets will struggle with consistency and discipline IMO, though their new coach has knowledge and experience. There is no tougher pack but handling the emotions is where Jets come undone.

Picton, with Trimarchi rumoured to have jumped ship, are the frontrunners with class and depth, whilst Camden have been very quiet. :letmesee:

What happened to Appin's big announcement last weekend?

if the Trimarchi rumour is true you get the feeling that when jets vs picton in the first round them 5 boys in the pack will be looking for him. Trimarchi great player at g6 level not sure if he would be reluctant to retaliate though
