KOOKABURRAS PLAY AT LOSEBY http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/2955339/kookaburras-play-at-loseby/?cs=264 Tomorrow will be Bowral's first proper senior competition match for three years at Loseby. The Kookaburras second division (third grade) team will play the Warragamba Wombats at 2.30pm in round one of the Group 6 season. The Bowral club invites all supporters and friends to head along for what shapes to be a great game of football. Member Peter Howard said the Kookaburras had recently recruited exciting players. "Our Fijian flyer Sam Vuniquai is worth the admission fee alone," Howard said. "With some rugby but, no rugby league background, Sam shapes up to be a really exciting player, in the same vein as past Fijian greats, like Watti Nasalo that have played for the Blues over the years. "Bowral also features a father/son combination of Trevor and Travis Green, which is extraordinary for any team." Edited by disco stu, Mar 20 2015, 02:16 PM.

SENIOR rugby league returns to Robertson Showground tonight. http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/2955326/senior-rugby-league-returns-to-robertson/?cs=264 The Spuds will play its first game of the Group 6 season at home at 7pm. Robertson's second division (third grade) team will host the Bundanoon Highlanders. Robertson club president Doug Tilley said he expected a tough contest. "I've heard that Bundy has recruited well, so they will have a handy side," he said. "We hope for a close game and hopefully we will see a decent-sized crowd at the showground." Tilley said the Spuds had enjoyed a solid pre-season. Highlights included a recent 12-6 win over the Canowindra Tigers. Tilley said Robertson had several key players who needed to stand up tonight. The group includes recruits Steven and Joel Baines, Pat Peace, Paddy Cann, Damien McMillan and Matt Rolles. Spuds utility Steven Baines has also been identified as a danger by Bundanoon coach Brian Martin. "Robbo is always solid and Steven Baines needs close attention," Martin said. "It's going to be a tough match." But Martin said the Bundanoon club wasn't totally pleased about playing on a Friday night. "We are not real confident in the lighting at Robbo," he said. "But we are happy to accommodate Robertson because of the (village's) cricket final this weekend." Martin said Bundanoon had trained well in the lead-up to round one. He said key players included forwards Chris and Mitchell Conquest and newcomer Max Hanrahan, who will play his first game of rugby league tonight. "We have reasonable fitness at this stage of the year and the boys have been training really well," Martin said. Edited by disco stu, Mar 20 2015, 02:15 PM.

THE Moss Vale Dragons will host a rugby league smorgasbord tomorrow at Community Oval. http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/2955324/moss-vale-dragons-compete-at-community-oval/?cs=264 The action will begin at 8am with the Bob Hall Cup for juniors and will conclude with the first grade match between rivals Moss Vale and the Mittagong Lions at 7.30pm. The Bob Hall Cup is the annual junior rugby league pre-season tournament for Southern Highlands clubs. The under-6s will kick off at 8am and the all junior grades will play, with the final game at 4.10pm. The tournament will be followed by the Moss Vale under-18s hosting the Warragamba Wombats. The Dragons and Lions will then face off in reserves and first grade. Moss Vale club president Michael Sutton said it promised to be a great day of rugby league. Sutton said the Dragons looked forward to hosting rival Mittagong. "It's the local derby," he said. "We have recruited well over the past few weeks and we are hoping to compete this season." Moss Vale's recruits include former Warrilla first graders Jesse Dee, Luke Roberts and Andrew Diomei. Ryan Cullen also returns to the club to be club captain. "I think it will be very competitive against Mittagong," Sutton said. "Moss Vale and Mittagong have always been rivals." Lions club president Dave Elliott said he expected a strong challenge from the Dragons. "It will be massive," he said. "Moss Vale always builds up for the local derby - we trained and prepared for two tough Moss Vale teams." In the lead-up, the Lions travelled to Berry for the Blaine Roz Cup inter-club challenge last weekend. The late Roz was a Mittagong junior and Berry footballer. Berry recorded a 22-20 victory to take home the cup. "It was a tough game in honour of Blaine," Elliott said. Mittagong's standouts included halfback Matt Thorpe and hooker Jake Mercica, who Elliott expected to perform well against Moss Vale. Edited by disco stu, Mar 20 2015, 02:18 PM.

Surely City/mossy will get the fringe 20s players? Thirlmere have the juniors and the $$ there is no reason at all they should getting players back there. definitely milking free quality players. Needs to be assessed |
