It says that this is the preliminary squad. Changes are expected Scoop, i know you have a man crush on him that parallels the one you have on James Tedesco, but I agree with you.

I'd be surprised if Jakiel Mariner is not added at some stage. He wore the 12 for NSW in the Under 20s origin team last year, and apparently was a member of Trent Robinsons squad of 25 only months ago before parting ways with the Roosters.

How'd he lob at Victoria Park, foal? Unusual for a player of that calibre not to be going around in the NSW Cup at that age at least...

Rumour is he was told not to go on his honeymoon during pre season but went anyway and hence was sacked. Not sure who at Picton he knows but must be someone. Came of his own accord. He also takes his music seriously from what I understand, and is apparently off for six weeks to record an album with his band in the US at some stage.

It's easy maths spend $150k plus and win premiership ha yeah right rob. The difference between Picton and other sides that buy well is that the quality players buy into the culture out there and tend to spend more than a single season. Gibbs at Appin next year? Unlikely.. Lett at Picton again next year for his 4th season? Likely...

Picton has been around forever and Appin has rebuilt , we don't have a junior base to draw on so we are limited. Who knows if lett or Gibbs will remain at there clubs for next season, only time will tell? Has jakiel brought into the culture at Picton or is he likely to not be there next season??

Who knows if lett or Gibbs will remain at there clubs for next season, only time will tell? Has jakiel brought into the culture at Picton or is he likely to not be there next season?? I know I should not feed the trolls, but I can't help it!! Pastrami, don't deliberately misquote me. I never once said the club has no money. I said I've served my time as treasurer and we are, comparatively, not a wealthy club. I also said that out of last years squad pretty much all could get way more money elsewhere, but they stay because they want to stay together.
Rob, I expect that kind of garbage from whoever the hell Pastrami is, but from all I've heard from you I thought you had more sense. You're suggesting Picton bought their premierships. It's ridiculous and offensive.
Tik hit the nail on the head. How often do you see players coming to Picton for one year and buggering off? Jakiel? Honestly I'd be surprised if he's at our club or in our group next year given his talent, age and potential. For his sake I hope he's at an NRL club.
Again, I'm not involved in the club this year but it's only two years since I was treasurer. Our total outgoing on our profit and loss statement was in the vicinity of 120k. That's total outgoing, including all bills, expenses, equipment, canteen/bar supplies etc etc. Anyone here that has actually run a club would know that player budget would be lucky to make up half of total expense.
Karl and Corky have been great for the club. And there's no doubt they have brought in plenty more sponsorship. Karl, however, is very quick to shoot from the hip. He wouldn't know how much the club spends a year, since this is only his second year on the committee. I was at the agm and 150 sounds about right, but that's total expenditure. Not player payments. A distinction that I have no doubt he would not have thought to make.

In 2013 Picton weren't the best team all year but they came from 4th I think to be the best team in September wen it counts. They've built extremely well and are still acquiring new talent without losing that solid foundation. Take note narellan and Appin $$$$ doesn't equal premiership, and to insinuate that Picton has done that is ridiculous, if more clubs modeled their recruitment on pictons we'd have a much more competitive competition

I have nothing against Picton and well done for being a strong club, all I was referring to is they work with a large budget and have a large junior base.

Just say it as it is and not try and BS about culture, the scenery or the special parking on game day. Most clubs would turnover $100K per season and would give their left nuts to have $150K to use. But hey, if you can get that thru hard work you can reap what you sow

I guess he knows old Gene Tunney and Arthur Ash! lol Did he play on the weekend? I thought Peters and Twisty were your back rowers. I'm pretty sure he did not play on the weekend at all mate, but I wasn't there. He came off the bench against the roosters in rd 1 and was strong without dominating. It'll be interesting to see how he's used later on. He's big enough for front row, but from what I'm told is a genuine 2nd rower. Almost impossible to move Peters and Twisty from there though. Twisty could go to the centres with no trouble though.

Yeah Twisty has been awesome since he returned half way through last year. In the pre season and round 1 games I thought he was our best. Brick wall in defence and hitting great lines in attack.

Obviously I'm going to tip Picton, but geez it's going to be tough. Camden were only just off the pace last year and it was probably only their halves that were just off the pace in contrast to the other top teams. Now they have the best halves pairing in the comp. And still that huge and skillful pack. It's going to be an absolute ball tearer.
