With the season completed has there been any players / coaches that have retired or moved on whether within the group or to other competitions? I ask this as the local papers for the other groups under CRL have already started reporting on players / coaches in their respective groups. I notice City have been announcing resignings on their Facebook page which is an excellent use of social media and keeping everyone informed whilst promoting their club. |

We've lost our media coverage up here. Chronicle is still ok, but the space for sport in the Advertiser has clearly been slashed. Sean Cunningham was a great ally of G6 footy. IMO local papers should report on local news. No disrespect to the Tigers, but if people want information about the Tiges, Rugby League Week, the Telegraph and SMH are there for that. Just a thought. We're signing a Top squad of 30 players. 10 spots for triallists/ walk ups. 7-8 spots for Kangaroo loyalists. Drew Dalton has retired from the Coaching position at City; we are in negotiations now with 2-3 people to come in as a captain-coach. Around the League, Appin are looking to replace Woodo. Oakdale and Jason Hazelton have been linked in talks. Scott Borg is understandably looking for redemption at Camden. Dasha Politis has gone quiet at Narellan, with his Easts premiership charge occupying his forethought. Paul Matthews is expected to be given the reins after turning the results around after appointment. |

Awesome heads up Orana, hope others jump on and do the same. As I was saying there are write ups in the The Daily Advertiser (Group 9), Central Western Daily (Group 10) and the Illawarra Mercury re coaching appointments and player movements for next year within days of the Grand Finals being played just wish we had more local coverage. |

Would have thought the smart thing would have been for the Jets to resign Paul Matthews - for his results and for some coaching stability. I hear though they have advertised for all coaching positions again. Hopeful Paul may still end up there. I think with a full preseason with the players he could lead us to some success |

I've got it on pretty good Authority that Woodo will be at Narellan, but as Assistant Coach. If Narellan can come up with the cash for Flanno (somewhere near $1000), both he and Tom Moon will come out. Tom Moon was only looking for a little bit of money for some minor cosmetic surgery on his chin. Didn't Appin sign Corey Ruttle? |

Fair question for the Silly season starting... who in 2nd Division has the capacity to step into 1st Grade over 3-4 years? |

I don't believe there would be any Orana. The majority of clubs in the 2nd division have minimal juniors, no great financial backing and a skeleton amount of committee members to take on the challenge of gradually building towards 1st Grade. Most clubs in 2nd division struggle to get FAO, strappers, water runners, even ball boys. Games with referees who are at the back of their careers in the middle do their best but there were games this year with no official touch judges which makes an arvo at the footy even harder when you are pulling guys out of the crowd to run the line. The only club that could possibly aspire to higher grades would be Mt Annan due to their geographical location but I'm not sure if they have the desire to do so. Even stepping up to Reserve Grade requires additional structures in place which a lot of stand alone 2nd Division clubs do not have. Warragamba found this out in 2014 and struggled to finish the season, which pushed them back to 2nd Division this year and starting from scratch again they got the spoon - a great shame. 2nd Division is great for the small towns and it needs to continue but who knows what the comp will look like in 5 years time. |

100% SmallPotato. Mt Annan has played 1st Grade most recently as 2002, I think. Their venue is a limiting factor. Had they secured the central field in Mt Annan before soccer twenty odd years ago, they would have had a great spot for G6 1st Grade Rugby League. They may pick up now with all the extra houses etc going on. Not everyone can play for Camden or Narellan. But it takes a few dedicated committee people with the vision and perseverance to see through the initial tough times. Thirlmere and Narellan were hopeless 1984- 1992 or so, when they started to come good. Mt Annan does look to have a youthful and energetic committee, but their best kids are easy pickings for Camden and Narellan, and will continue to be so for some time. Warragamba, as has been mentioned before, struggle with big money Penrith JL clubs on their boundary. They did have an excellent U/18 team this season, but even they are targets for cashed up rivals at The Oaks, Oakdale etc. Bargo is a population explosion away. This may occur with this Bathurst sized city going in at Wilton Junction. They really need to secure their own field; the property at Bargo Sports they're talking about would be perfect for a 1st Grade club. The Highlands Clubs. In the early-mid 1990s, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bowral and Robertson all fielded 1st Grade, Reserve Grade and U/18s. No doubt, a golden era. John Burke captain coach of Robbo, Filipiana at Bowral. Moss Vale vs Mittagong in the 1990 GF. Mittagong a power from 1985- 1996. Perhaps Highlander and Disco can offer insight here on how the Highlands having four teams occurred and where it went to. Attractive, cashed up clubs in Group 7 are no doubt more accessible than ever. 2nd Division is a great competition, keeping Rugby League traditions alive in most of G6's villages and small towns. I noted one Robbo player, wearing his Dad's 1982 Premiership blazer at the G6 presso, proud as punch. Edited by Orana87, Sep 30 2015, 11:46 AM.

Mt Annan last played First Grade in 2006 I remember them beating us at Currans Hill, and our coach at the time wasn't too impressed. |

Back in early 2000 when Bowral, Robertson & Mossy formed to become the Pioneer Dragons that was the beginning of the end . After that all the highlands teams separated again & have had good & bad times with Mossy + Mittagong the only two clubs that have been in & out of first grade. I have a theory as to why league numbers have declined in the highlands maybe it's the attitudes of generation Y & I - generation , playing sport was about bonding with your mates & socialising & aspire to be something, the current generation can do that now over a computer or smartphone. It comes down alot to junior numbers for Robbo Bowral its just not there. Chev and Oxley kill teams ripping them apart once they get to high School. Mossy and Mitta do a great job with juniors hence why they are in 1st grade. The hardest part i had when at Bowral was you loose a local at 14 or 15 and they dont come back cant build a club. The positive for the Blues is there 14s winning there first junior premiership in 30 years alot and loosing 4 GFs to get there!!alot of these kids (not all) turned the Rugby schools down which is a first those boys are rebuilding a club culture!!and there under 10s are easily the best in the highlands for there age which never happens. Robbo do a fantastic job having solid team everyea. |

I hate how a player can lay down on the field, and then at the referees inconsistent discretion stop the game. I'd like to see if a player cannot take his place in the defensive line or attacking area and the game is stopped, that player has to leave the field. Surely if your injury is serious enough that you have to stay down for an extended period you should not be on the field anyways. It will stop all the nonsense time wasting and it will stop players from killing the momentum of the attacking team. Same with Reserve Grade, i'd like to see time off in the final 5 minutes of the game, i know of 1 instance this year where a player faked an injury to see out the game and then hop up at fulltime. |

Group 6 management need to implement, develop and foster relationships between 1st Grade and 2nd Division clubs in the Highlands. I feel that unless a portability between clubs is present your club should have a 1st grade team to be able to submit a 2nd division side (especially in the southern highlands). A portability system similar to that of the NRL could be implemented, allowing players to move between clubs so that all Highland clubs can survive and retain their traditions and identities due to limited player pool and population growth in the area. Something like this will ensure some of the competitions foundation clubs continue and it will also give players from the 2nd division clubs a chance to play in the higher grade competitions and excess 1st grade club players a chance to play in 2nd Division, but keep their club ties and reduce the amount of club juniors going to other clubs within the area. An idea could be that Mittagong link with Bargo & Bowral, Moss Vale with Bundanoon & Robertson????? Edited by Dragons Den, Oct 12 2015, 03:02 PM.

2016 MOSS VALE DRAGONS COACHING STAFF The club is pleased to announce that it will be retaining our current 1st Grade coach Robbie Payne, as well as Reserve Grade coach Terry Fish for the 2016 season. It is the 2016 committees belief that this is great stability and a further step forward for our club. We are now calling for applications for the U18's position, if you are interested you can contact the club via email secretary.mvsrlfc@gmail.com . Also any interested player for our Womens Leaguetag, U18’s, Reserve and 1st Grade teams feel free in contacting us and we can forward you or your details onto the coaching staff. A few of our ideas: 1. Pre- Season Competition. One day mega event. All clubs, 1st & 2nd Division. Maybe go back to playing as a 9s tournament. Play it up at Thirlmere where they have two fields. 2. Judiciary- securing a panel of ex- G6 players to sit on. eg one ex- referee, one ex- player, one management appointee. 3. Womens' League Tag Status. We have a full team already for this. 4. Reschedule the Mid-Season Dinner, to be held at the Season Launch- mix the tables up so everyone gets to know everyone. A pre-season bonding session for all Group and Club officials. Got to agree with this. A real blight on the Reserve Grade competition. I haven't seen it in the U/18s thankfully. |
