East Campbelltown Eagles RLFC – Media Release 12-04-2015

On Sunday the 12th of April the East Campbelltown Eagles came up against the Auburn Warriors at Waminda Oval.
The Mighty Eagles supporters are really coming out in numbers with another large crowd on hand, the large Auburn Warriors pack came out and attacked the eagles line for the first 10 minutes of play, but the Eagles defence was rock solid and they couldn’t be broken, against the run of play the Eagles got the ball and seen Amanono Tovio weave some magic to score out wide, Ben Baker converted and the Eagles went to a 6 nil lead.

The eagles attack stepped up a notch and again looked certain to score another try when an Auburn player was sin binned for a professional foul, Auburn down a player the eagles used it to their advantage running in another two tries, winger Craig Moustakas and fullback Ben Baker crossed for the Eagles, and Ben converting another goal for the Eagles to led 16-0, with 10 minutes remaining auburn hit back with 2 tries to bring the half time led back to 16-8 to the Eagles.

The second half was becoming a real arm wrestle and when Auburn crossed first we had a game on our hands at 16-12 Eagles way. But that would be it for the Warriors, The Eagles then went on a try scoring spree running in 4 unanswered tries, with Mason Talolua, Sean Connor and Ben Baker bagging another two tries to give him a hat trick for the day and running out convincing winners 40-12

Coach Richard Barnes said, “Today I was so proud of the guys efforts, we came up against a huge Auburn pack and the boys defended brilliantly, great individual efforts from John Da Silva and a fantastic defensive effort from full Ben Baker, we love playing at Waminda Oval and our club has only lost one game at home in the past 6 years”

Best for the Eagles were: John da Silva, Ben Baker and Amanono Tovio

Try Scorers

Ben Baker 3
Sean Connor
Amanono Tovio
Mason Talolua
Craig Moustakas

Goals

Ben Baker 6 from 7

Next week’s match:

East Campbelltown V’s Guildford Owls
Sunday the 19th of April 2015 at McCredie Park Guildford at 1.30pm
Nice win but the Auburn Sydney Shield team is 9/10ths Bulldog excess NYC players that are 18 and 19 years old - hardly the large pack you describe
1 game in 6 years????? :dunno: not sure about that one supercoach
I'm sure i've won 2 games at Waminda, that old cricket pitch was a nightmare.
and I'm pretty sure i watched The Oaks beat you guys once during Round 3 2010????
I'd say you guys have a pretty formidable record at home to say the least.

I don't think anyone reads the forum anymore, but here is our Media Release if anyone is interested.

East Campbelltown celebrates NAIDOC win!

East Campbelltown celebrated NAIDOC week in a specially designed Indigenous jersey as they played Hills Bulls in Round 18 NSWRL Sydney Shield Competition
The Eagles posted first points when centre Fusi Toutai powered over the line to score out wide, Bakers conversion was unsuccessful but it was the competitions leading try scorer Ben Baker to score next for the Eagles and when he converted they led 10-0, right on half time the bulls scored to go into the break at 10-6

The second half seen the Bulls level the score at 10 all with a try 8 minutes into the break, but that was as good as it got for the Bulls as the Eagles went on attack running away with three tries and the game, tries where scored by Giovanni Vatuvei, Chris Standing, and Mason Talolua with Baker converting a further 2 from 4 attempts,

Best for the Eagles were Amanono Tovio, Jarryd Eggleton, John Da Silva and Guy Thompson while Ben Baker got the Man of the Match award and Fusi Toutai winning the players player.

Coach Richard Barnes said, it was a good win especially with our club celebrating NAIDOC week, a day that meant so much, our guys Indigenous and non Indigenous played with so much passion.

A huge thank you to KARI Aboriginal Resources for being our game day sponsor and supporting our local Indigenous players

A Grade East Campbelltown Eagles 22 defeated Ingleburn Bulldogs 10

Under 19's East Campbelltown Eagles 18 defeated Moorebank 16

Under 17's East Campbelltown Eagles 34 defeated Kingsgrove Colts 0

The Sydney Shield will have next week off with a split round

An interesting issue in the SCC where Auburn Warriors have been
found to have used at least one inelegible player in their defeat of All Saints knocking Saints out of the semis. Still no outcome on what the SCC's position is on this as yet. What do you think should happen ????

Well done to Ben Baker, he has been one of the best in both of these competitions for a long time. Very consistent. Is the deal done for him to stay with Easts? I heard he may be seeking some RMC deals? Must have been paying some big dollars to keep him there considering his dream is to make NRL and the RMC would be a good way to get there.
Some people need to know that's it's not all about the money, if players are happy and enjoying their footy, they will play for less just to enjoy the game, Sam Hoare and Dunley is a perfect example for this, while at our club, they had offers of twice as much to play in other clubs but played with mates and a club they enjoyed to play with, Ben has loved his footy this year and it's comforting to hear his girlfriend say how happy he has been at home, while playing for the Eagles

I can see Ben finding a home at the Eagles for many years to come and we all enjoy having him around, a fantastic player, and he has been a real good role model for our Junior players

If Ben has resigned, which is GREAT for Easts if he has, has Easts set up a feeder arrangement with an RMC side or are they planning on stepping up? I ask this as Ben looks as though he wants to go to a higher level and won't be able to do that at Easts without a direct pathway. Any news?
