October 6, 2006 - For six consecutive years IGN and THQ have teamed up to bring our readers an ongoing exclusive look at the superstars of the WWE, and this season is no exception. Famous the world over, our "SmackDown Countdown" chronicles each wrestler, diva, and legend that will appear in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007, and comes complete with never-before-seen screenshots and direct-feed movies of every last one of them. Every day for the next nine weeks, we'll profile more than 60 different personalities (including two each on Mondays and Fridays as a special homage to Raw and SmackDown fans), and for the first time ever, will cover two different platforms with images and video from both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 versions. Hot stuff? You bet. But enough with the formalities it's time to throw down with today's Countdown superstar, Mark Henry! ![]() At Judgment Day, Mark Henry recorded an impressive victory over fellow Olympian Kurt Angle. Henry won the contest by count-out after running the former World Champion Angle into a ring post with such force that he was unable to make it back to the ring by the count of ten. After the match, Angle took out his frustration on Henry with a steel chair, and eventually, sending the mammoth weightlifter through the announcer's table. "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry continues to impress with his massive size and incredible strength. Henry fell victim to Undertaker at their WrestleMania 22 Casket Match, however, Henry is resilient and was back to put Batista out of action not too long afterward. Breaking records, pumping iron and devastating opponents with his unmatched strength, it's no wonder they call Mark Henry "The World's Strongest Man." Henry's rise to fame began in 1992 at the Olympics in Barcelona, where he competed in weightlifting in the super-heavyweight division. Three years later at the Pan American Games, Henry captured a gold, silver and bronze medal, solidifying his place as one of the strongest men ever to walk the planet. He has also engaged in Strongman competitions, including the 2002 "World's Strongest Man" competition at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic, where Henry earned first prize. Henry began his WWE career in 1996. He worked on his own, but in 1997 he was soon lured into the faction known as the Nation of Domination, which also featured The Rock. The group broke up in late '98, and Henry went back to singles competition. After holding the WWE European Championship in 1999, Henry took time off in 2001 to train for another Strongman competition. Henry returned to the ring in 2002 and was drafted to the SmackDown roster and later briefly appeared on RAW after a big trade. Mark Henry has gone toe to toe with top stars such as Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Batista and Undertaker. This big man is a force to be feared every time he steps into the ring. The giant monster Henry now eyes his own meteoric rise on Friday Night SmackDown, vowing destroy anyone who gets in his way. October 5, 2006 - For six consecutive years IGN and THQ have teamed up to bring our readers an ongoing exclusive look at the superstars of the WWE, and this season is no exception. Hot stuff? You bet. But enough with the formalities it's time to throw down with today's Countdown superstar, Chris Benoit! ![]() Mickie stormed onto the RAW scene in the fall of 2005, and the Divas division hasn't been the same ever since. The excitable Mickie stormed the ring on RAW, coming to the aid of Trish Stratus who was being attacked by the vicious Victoria. Mickie revealed that she was actually Trish's biggest fan. She idolized Trish and even watched several of her matches with her grandpappy. Mickie was more than happy to propel herself into the middle of the ongoing conflict between Trish and her adversaries -- Candice, Torrie Wilson and Victoria. In fact, Mickie has made herself a permanent fixture in Trish's business ever since. Mickie went from being "excitable" to being "psycho" but it was paying dividends. She constantly seemed to have Trish off her game, which was perfect for Mickie heading into WrestleMania 22. While many think that Mickie may have a screw or two loose, she proved that she knows exactly what she's doing inside the ring. James focused on Trish's knee and worked it over throughout their match at WrestleMania. Trish kept trying to fight back, but she couldn't put much weight on her injured leg. In the end, Mickie was able to catch Trish with the Mick Kick for the 1-2-3 and her first-ever Women's Championship. Today, Mickie James is current the favorite to win the 2006 WWE Women's Championship tournament being held in the aftermath of Trish's retirement. As the last woman to defeat Trish for the title and the youngest and most well-rounded competitor in the face-off, the young talent is poised to finally get out Stratus's shadow and into a limelight all her own. ![]() After a brutal attack by Mark Henry on Friday Night SmackDown in May, Chris Benoit has taken an indefinite sabbatical from SmackDown. That night, Henry destroyed Benoit, repeatedly ramming the Rabid Wolverine into the ringpost. The World's Strongest Man lost the match by disqualification, but the damage was done and Benoit had to be taken from ringside on a stretcher. There is no timetable for Benoit's return, but the fans can only hope that "The Crippler" comes back to SmackDown sooner rather than later. Certainly deserving of his nickname "The Rabid Wolverine," Chris Benoit is one of the toughest, most aggressive competitors in WWE. Benoit's intensity and no-nonsense attitude has earned him the respect of many WWE Superstars, and his in-ring ability has earned him several championships around the world. Benoit is certainly no stranger to tough battles, having trained with Stu Hart in his legendary "dungeon" in Calgary. The dungeon produced numerous other superstars, such as Bret Hart, Owen Hart, the British Bulldog and Chris Jericho to name a few. Prior to coming to WWE, Benoit wrestled in Japan, ECW and WCW. He won his first major championship in Japan, defeating the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in 1990. After moving to ECW, Benoit earned the nickname "The Crippler" when he broke Sabu's neck. During his two years in ECW, Benoit won the ECW Tag Team Championship with good friend Dean Malenko. Moving to WCW in 1995, Benoit became a member of the legendary Four Horsemen, standing alongside Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. During that time, he had one of the most intense rivalries in WCW history with Kevin Sullivan before beginning a long-running feud with Booker T. The two traded the WCW Television Championship a few times before eventually beginning a historic Best-of-Seven Series for the gold. Benoit also held the United States Championship and WCW Tag Team Championship twice each before leaving WCW. On his final night in WCW, Benoit appeared to win the WCW Championship at Souled Out, but the decision was reversed the next night. In early 2000, Benoit jumped from WCW to WWE along with Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and Perry Saturn. Calling themselves "The Radicalz," they debuted on RAW in January 2000. Benoit was immediately successful, capturing the Intercontinental Championship just two months after his WWE debut at WrestleMania 2000. He would go on to hold that championship twice more that same year. A major setback in Benoit's career occurred in 2001; shortly after winning the World Tag Team Championship with Chris Jericho, a major injury caused the Rabid Wolverine to have major neck surgery (which put him out of action for an entire year). Upon returning, Benoit set his goal on reaching the top. Drafted to SmackDown during the 2002 brand extension, Benoit found himself teaming with hated rival Kurt Angle. The two won the WWE Tag Team Championship together in October 2002, and would go on to have a memorable match for the WWE Championship at the 2003 Royal Rumble. One year later, Benoit entered the 2004 Royal Rumble Match as the No. 1 entrant and defeated twenty nine other Superstars to win the match. In an unprecedented move, Benoit used a loophole and jumped to RAW to fight for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX. In another memorable WrestleMania bout, Benoit defeated Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a Triple Threat Match to win the championship (making Triple H tap out to the Crippler Crossface). After the match, then-WWE champion and best friend Eddie Guerrero celebrated in the ring with Benoit as the show went off the air in a WrestleMania moment. Benoit may have eventually dropped the strap a few months afterward, but to this day, his win at WrestleMania remains the highlight of his long career. ![]() Trish Stratus has now officially retired from wrestling after her record-breaking seventh Women's title victory over Lita in September, but she didn't have an easy time of it. Following a tough series of matches against Mickie James over the summer, Trish's matches were interrupted by Melina with claims of how she had become the dominant diva in the WWE and Lita hounded the Canadian bombshell with nasty words of her own. But whether she retired as the Women's Champion or not, Trish was one of RAW's all time elite Superstars. Her beauty is second to none, and her brains, strength and ability to get the job done make her the total package. A three-time WWE.com Babe of the Year, multiple time Divas magazine cover girl and seven-time Champion, Trish has proven that she can succeed in all facets of being a WWE Diva. Renowned for her work as a fitness model, Stratus entered WWE in March 2000 as a manager, leading the careers of Test, Albert and Val Venis. As a manager, she led Venis to the Intercontinental Championship and began her long-standing rivalry with Lita, but her beauty and athleticism left the fans asking for more Trish. She made her in-ring debut that June, teaming with T&A against the Hardy Boyz & Lita, and looking back it's only fitting that Trish's first match was against perhaps her greatest rival. Later, she went on to feud with the likes of Molly Holly, Jazz, Victoria, and Stephanie McMahon. Source: WWE.com FINISHERS Chick Kick Stratusfaction ![]() ![]()
