Well the big bang wasnt exactly nothing it was natrual gas and other substances which resulted in the cause of the big bang, where these gases came from who knows. The same nothing is true of religion because if an entity created everything from nothing your at the same spot, some say well it had to have a creator, well what created God then. Ive heard this alot, the universe is so complex it must of had a creator, but the one creating this who had all this power must be equally complex so what created that? I prefer taking the science approach of observing and learning about the natural world trying to understand how things work, rather than taking the easy route of God did it. So why did the crops fail 'god is unhappy' why did he die 'oh he is a sinner' Religion since the beginning is there because all the questions are not answered and its easy to just accept an easy answer, and the fact people fear dying so having a pass to heaven seems like a good option, its better than people accepting they will just be dead 6ft under. |

So you think you just die at the end, and there is noting from then on.. how horrible is that? I'd never be happy if I thought that way.
That makes people who believe in God sound like idiots! People with faith in God still believe in scientific facts. We know that the earth is round, how the body works, how crops grow. Yes we believe God is behind it all, but we don't live in biblical times, we know that people die from cancer, and gunshot wounds, heart attacks etc. A besides it's not always the easy way out to have faith in God. Faith gets tried and, a lot of people loose their faith. |

Thats the thing we dont live in biblical times, and alot of what was stated in the bible doesnt stand up now a days, as humans learn more about the world we learn that its not a man in the sky failing the crops it may be weather patterns and such. For long periods of time a god figure was put as the means to certain events and such and over time the evidence has come about that well its not an angry god etc. I think this trend will continue just like it has done for hundreds of years, i just cant accept something like the bible a document that contradicts itself and what we know now. Like for instance the earth is round, and in the bible the earth is suppose to be flat, youll find the bible is limited to the understand of the people who were around at the time. Now if it were the word of god you would look at the bible at look at what we know today and it would reflect todays findings. Such examples are the world is not flat, the earth is not the center of the universe, the earth is much older than stated in the bible. Many things, i dont mind if people believe in the Bible but they should only look at it as a guide and not 100% fact. This is a good video about it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NviLvMRbGoE Edited by The Comedian, Aug 15 2010, 05:08 PM.

I think the reason why the Bible doesn't mention stuff like the earth being round is because man didn't have that knowledge at the time it was written. And the Bible was written by men. It is the word of God, God gave them the words to write, but it was physically written by the hands of men. Therefor they didn't write that the earth was round simply because they didn't know, and God didn't tell them. And really? What does the shape of the earth have to do with anything anyway? That's not important! What is important however, are things like forgiveness, kindness, faith, hope, and love. All the things that the Bible does talk about. Things that are still relevant today. Because the Bible is a lot more relevant today than you may think. |

Thats the thing it was written by man and if some fundamentla facts we know are true today how can the rest of the bible be taken as fact. Granted the stuff you mentioned about forgiveness and those things are a good point, but one does not need a religion to follow or learn from those aspects. I think the Christian religion and the Bible should be taken as a work of fiction, like many other books people can take and learn qualities from it without the need to worship it. Take the Lord of the Rings books they have a strong story of hardship redemption etc and you can take what you will from it. Take for example someone tells you a great story about them or an event, but you learn that their story has some huge holes in it or are untrue all together, the average person would find it hard to believe the next thing that person said. |
