What does Christmas mean to you?

Past few days I have been thinking over Christmas, It has been enlightening in a way at how things were at one point and how things are now.
It goes back to my childhood and primary school it feels like an element of trust was broken especially in the teaching enviroment. There we had school plays, the Christmas nativity which I did'nt mind mainly because it meant we had no actual work to do.
The element that gets me is being raised and taught that this is without question the truth and it happened without having much of a choice in the matter, being at that age some of these things can change a persons mind into the direction they want.

Even when watching a film about Adam and Eve I raised a question which was along the lines of 'well where are the dinosaurs?' and all I got in response was 'don't ask stupid question'. This was not the first or the last time I raised a question that was just passed off in regards to religion it never clicked with me.

Now recently I looked into a bit of history over the whole Christmas story, all signs point to it never happened in the way it was written. Such as harad wanting the death of every male child, would'nt someone note this down? or more so be remembered today as a tyrant. Also the Joseph heading back to the town of his birth or where his family came from because it was a mass calling to do so, yet there is no record of this being a major thing which it would be.

Just simple things that people just pass off, I think if most people looked at the bible and any other religious book and raised question about it, a lot of people could open there eyes.

Also Santa is awesome!!!!
Haha there's no point in me trying to argue with you again about the Christian faith. lol we do this about once ever two months.. and neither of us give an inch. But since we need the post count I'm game.

Mainly I'm going to comment on this part of what you said..

Really Matt? Really? (lol Miz reference).. People have been doing that since the Bible was written! Now more than ever it seems. You wont find any nativity scenes in school today! Not unless it was very small southern town or Christian school. Around here anyway, not sure how it is other places. Around here everyone wants to remove God, Jesus, the Christian faith from everything! Take it out of Schools, off of money, censor the name Jesus on TV! You can't say if people where to raise questions about the Bible! They've been doing that forever. Only thing is.. for the most part.. real Christians remain.. strong as ever. I don't see that changing.
And I'll admit.. sometimes things just don't seem to add up. I have wondered about the dinosaurs myself. Still do. But the best answer I can come up with for that particular question is this. The Bible doesn't talk about everything. It's just simple like that. (lol funny Del Rio reference)

I don't really have any against the Christian faith the good things it does, its just for me personally what gets me is the kind of pick and choose kind of way it is with things. Like it is rarely mentioned about the bad stuff that happens in the bible that god does and things like creating the world in 7 days, adam and eve etc people don't accept that but will the rest it just seems confusing.

The god figure is seen as perfect yet shows plenty of imperfect qualities, and no one really questions their god or criticizes him just because of the label of god.

Another thing is if God is suppose to be all knowing he knows your past present and future then why is he suprised on so many occasions? like for example adam and eve eating the apple also the fallen angle Lucifer, the great flood etc. He would of created these events knowing exactly the outcome so why is he suprised and more so why would he go down that path to begin with if he knew it would end the way it did.

There are somethings that only God knows. One thing I know for sure.. is that God was not surprised by any of those things. Why he let them happen.. knowing all along that it would? I have no idea. But he wasn't surprised.

That is all probably covered by the free will thing, sure He probably knows what is going to happen but hope we make better choices.

Yes he would know, and like Justin said He is not surprised by any of our choices.

I LOVE the fact that there are some mysteries left in life! Figuring it all out would be like beating the ultimate video game.. knowing you've already beat it, nothing will ever top it, and sure you could replay it a million times.. but the fun is gone. lol I'm an idiot. But you get the point right?
