Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny
Now I know,
That I can't make you stay.
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your,

And I know.
There's nothing I can say.
To change that part.
To change that part.
To change.

So many,
Bright lights they cast a shadow,
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding,
I'm incomplete?
A life that's so demanding,
I get so weak.
A love that's so demanding,
I can't speak.

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Tell me if you stay I'll be forgiven,
Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

Can you see?
My eyes are shining bright,
'Cause I'm out here, on the other side,
Of a jet black hotel mirror,
And I'm so weak.
Is it hard understanding?
I'm incomplete.
A love that's so demanding,
I get weak.

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Tell me if you stay I'll be forgiven,
Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Tell me if you stay I'll be forgiven,

Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

These bright lights have always blinded me.
These bright lights have always blinded me.

I say.

I see you lying next to me,
With words I thought I'd never speak,
Awake, and unafraid.
Asleep, or dead.

'Cause I see you lying next to me,
With words I thought I'd never speak,
Awake, and unafraid.
Asleep, or dead.

'Cause I see you lying next to me,
With words I thought I'd never speak,
Awake, and unafraid.
Asleep, or dead.

'Cause I see you lying next to me,
With words I thought I'd never speak,
Awake, and unafraid.

Asleep, or dead...

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Tell me if you stay I'll be forgiven,
Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay I'll be forgiven,
Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay I'll be forgiven,
Nothing you can say can stop me going home.

Preformed by: My Chemical Romance

“It’s quiet.” Mathias said climbing out of the cab, closing the door.

Ianto had noticed that too. There’d been a hum of activity in the air the last time he’d been here, and now, now there was nothing. The area where they had parked was perfectly still. All of the vehicles, what few there were, were parked and unoccupied. There was no cocking of guns, no rustling in the trees from guards. Nothing. The place almost seemed,

“Dead.” Jack said coming up behind them finishing Ianto’s thought.

The conversation that had been going on inside of the transport died as they all emerged out into the open finding the area eerily silent. The weight of unnaturalness hung in the air like a heavy blanket smothering them. Something wasn’t right, and they could all feel it.

“Jack?” Gwen asked helping the Master out of the transport. She pulled her keys from her pocket.

“What are you doing?” Mick asked. “You’re going to,”

“I’m not running away,” the Master said looking at Mick as though he was an inbred idiot. “Which part of I – came – to – you did you miss?” He staggered forward as Kara ‘accidentally’ bumped into his back, her elbow digging into his spine causing him to hiss in pain.

“Kara!” Gwen said looking at her trying to hide her smile but failing fairly miserably. The Master just scowled at her irritated but saying nothing.

“What?” Kara replied innocently. “It was an accident.”

“I like her,” John said with a smile jumping down with a smile. “It always this quiet?”

“No,” Mathias replied. “It’s not.” His eyes scanned the area. “Considering that this is a government transport filled with people that they wouldn’t know, we should be surrounded and dropping our weapons. Paranoia runs deep here.”

“Maybe they’re taking a nap.” Jack said.

Mathias ignored him. “Something’s wrong.”

Everyone fell silent as they heard something crash from inside one of the buildings. The stood silently, frozen in place, their ears straining to hear something, anything. All that they could hear though was the rusting of the leaves in the trees around them. There was a fain hum in the air, but everyone chalked it up to a generator. They would have needed power out here, and a generator would have been the only way to get it.

“Jack?” Kas asked hopping down from the back of the transport, Mick catching her around the waist easing her fall. “Thank you, kind sir.” She said leaning up and giving him a quick kiss.

“We split up,” Jack said finally. “Cover more ground faster. Andrew, Gwen, John… you’re with me. We’ll cover the main buildings. Ianto, Mathias, Doctor, Master,” he added him in not trusting anyone else with the Master other than the Doctor and Ianto “You four go and get the weapon and bring it back here. Kas, Jake, Mick, Kara, you four are on recon. Look for easy escape routes, any signs of life, just in case. I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

“You’re not the only one,” Mick muttered, the hair on the back of his neck standing up. “An hour?”

Jack nodded. “Let’s move.”

John and Gwen
Sleeping Units

************************************************

“So do you get a raise?” John asked pulling open the destroyed closet door. It was riddled with bullet holes. Hell, everything was riddled with bullet holes. It hadn’t taken them long to come to the conclusion that something bad had happened here, and if someone were to ask him, he’d say it was a double cross. No one however asked him, probably because they came to the same conclusion. There was a small child laying in the corner of the closet, eyes wide, glassy, staring at him, dead.

“For what?” Gwen asked looking under the bed and finding another body. This was breaking her heart. They’d killed everyone. Men, women, children, animals… everything that had a pulse they’d shot.

“Boffing the boss,” John said with a grin.

“It’s not… shut up John.” Gwen said standing up wiping the blood off her hands onto the bedspread.

“He’s not the only good lay,” John said turning and grabbing her around the waist. “There was a time when we would share. In fact, I remember this time on Caprica Six,”

Gwen shoved him away refusing to let him get any closer for two reasons. One, it was highly inappropriate considering what they were finding and Two, she hated him. No matter what way it was cut, John had tried to kill her, he’d tried to kill Owen, he’d tried to kill Jack and buried him alive for over a thousand years. “That’s not going to happen. I’m a married woman.”

“Didn’t bother you last night, did it?” John quipped. “On your knees sucking his,” his head snapped to the side as Gwen’s fist connected with his jaw. “Oh, that’s more LIKE it!”

“Don’t,” She said pulling her gun and aiming at his chest.

“Oh, you’re no fun anymore.” John said with a pout. “What do you say we try the next room?”

Gwen holstered her weapon and went back out into the hall, heading to the next room, John right behind her. She could feel his eyes on her ass though and she was filled with the desire to smack him again, maybe knock out some teeth, something, anything so that he didn’t look so… perfect. “What do you think happened?” She asked letting out a sigh seeing the state of the next room. The search for survivors had so far resulted in none being found. Shot, strangled, slit open, bludgeoned… most of them were shot at least in this area since it was where the children had been. The adults had most likely died defending the castle leaving the children here for safety.

“Well that’s pretty obvious,” John replied.

“Well I know,” she said rolling her eyes. “But I mean, this is more than one person could do alone.”

“Then it was more than one person sweetheart,” John said with an internal groan, this was so pointless. Everyone was dead. There weren’t going to be any survivors left behind, not when they went as far as to kill the children as well. He knew what Jack would say though, as did Gwen which is why they continued the fruitless venture.

“Creeps the hell out of me,” Gwen said looking at the bullet riddled dresser. “Even the children…” She wanted more than anything to make the world right again. Make this one never to have existed. Set things straight. A world where this kind of thing didn’t happen. Gwen purposefully ignored the fact that even in her world this kind of thing happened, it only happened in other countries. “I hope the others are having more luck that we are.”

That’s when they heard the explosion in the direction that Jack and Andrew had gone.

They looked at each other for a beat before turning and sprinting out of the room, heading towards the strategic center.

*****************************************

Jack and Andrew

******************************************

The room was utterly destroyed. Ever screen on ever terminal had been shattered. The hard drives torn out and burned. Thick black smoke from the burnt plastic and metal hung in the air burning their lungs as the two men searched through the strategic center looking for some sort of clue, anything to help them find out what happened. At the main console, slumped over, sat the body of a woman. Jack grabbed the woman’s hair and pulled her head back, the body flopping back into the chair, her face gone from some sort of an ionic disrupter.

“They were thorough,” Andrew said stifling the urge to vomit. “I’ll give them that.” He turned away and crouched down near a stack of hard drives, pushing through them trying to find something that wasn’t destroyed so that they could get an idea of what had been here.

“Yup,” Jack replied pushing the corpse forward again casually, her body hitting the console, face snapping against the keys with a wet thud. He noticed Andrew’s shoulders tighten as the urge to vomit came. “You get used to it.”

“I don’t know how,” Andrew replied. “That’s just…”

“You’re young.” Jack replied. “When I was younger, just an adult, I joined the army back home.” He went over to the next com center and grabbed the next corpse by the hair to pull it back, this time however the back of its skull came off in his hand. “Talked my best friend into joining,” he said throwing the skull to the ground and noticing the cluster bomb on the floor by the corpse’s feet. “We ended up as P.O.W.s for a few years and he…” he trailed off, leaning down. His fingers slid over the surface of the bomb, his face suddenly relaxed, expression distant.

“And?” Andrew asked standing up as Jack trailed off. “This is shot all to hell,” he said brushing his hands off on his pants. “There’s no way. They destroyed everything.” He leaned over the console as Jack straightened up, and then took a step back. “Jack, that’s,”

“A cluster bomb.” Jack said holding the device in his hands.

“Be careful with that!” Andrew said backing up further watching as Jack armed the devise. “What are you doing? You’re going to kill us. Put it,”

“Well, kill you.” Jack said. “I’ll come back. I always come back.” With that he tossed the devise at Andrew who tried to dive over a stack of equipment to shield himself from the blast. He made it halfway over as the bomb exploded shredding the lower half of his body from toes to chest killing him instantly. Jack was thrown across the room, shielded slightly by the consoles that he’d been standing behind but he hit the wall with a crack, shrapnel tearing through him like he was tissue.

A minute later Gwen and John came through the door, both coughing and waving at the dense smoke in the air. “Jack! Andrew!” Gwen cried. “Where are you?!?” The two of them split up, John going left, Gwen to the right. They had no idea what had happened outside of a giant explosion that had decimated this room. Half the wall was missing now, a part of the ceiling on the verge of collapse.

“I found Jack!” John called grabbing a large piece of steel sticking out of Jack’s chest and ripping it free. Throwing it aside he began to pull out the rest of the shrapnel that had pierced his body. After pulling out a few, Jack’s body fell from where it had been pinned on the wall down to the floor. “Any luck with,”

“I found Andrew,” Gwen said her stomach turning over. “Or what’s left of him.” She didn’t know what religion Andrew had been, but she waved her fingers over the remaining half of his body in the form of a cross and turned around. “What happened?”

“I don’t know,” John said. “But,” he broke off as Jack let out a sudden gasp, sitting up and ripping out half a bone.

“I’m okay,” Jack said. “It’s not mine.” His head flopped back against the wall. “What happened? Andrew,”

“We were hoping you could tell us.” Gwen said. “We just heard an explosion.”

Jack grabbed John’s hand letting him help him up to his feet. “I don’t,” he ran a hand through his hair feeling it slick with blood. “I don’t… remember. I think I cracked open the back of my skull,” he muttered. “My head is killing me. I remember, Andrew looking through the equipment while I was checking to see if anything was left working and then…” he shook his head. “You two showed up.”

Their heads all snapped towards the staircase leading up to the ground level as there was the sudden sound of gunfire.

Ianto, Mathias, The Doctor and The Master

**************************************************

“It should be in here,” Mathias said leading the small group to what looked like some sort of caretakers shed. It was old, worn down with signs of damage. It was, Ianto thought, as good of a place as any to create a weapon. It was after all, a building easily overlooked and missed.

“It’s quite brilliant really,” The Doctor said appreciatively. “So easily missed, it blends right in with the devastation and the security that you invented for it is almost invisible.” He looked at Mathias. “You’re really quite brilliant, and I don’t use that word lightly.”

“He’s amazing,” Ianto said in agreement.

“I’m just good with my hands.” Mathias replied.

Ianto bit his tongue keeping his next comment to himself, a comment along the lines of those weren’t the only things that he was good with opting to keep it to himself. He wasn’t Jack. He couldn’t just, blurt out things like that in front of people. It wasn’t his style. He wanted to say it, but he didn’t. He watched as Mathias ran a finger along the edge of the door as though feeling for something. “What’s wrong?” He asked knowing Mathias well enough to be able to tell when something was bothering him.

“Something’s… not right.” He said pulling his hand away. “The system isn’t armed. There should be… the lock is bio coded when its armed to only let selected people inside. It was armed when we left, I did it myself,”

“Step back,” Ianto said pulling out his gun and pressing his back to the wall. He nodded to Mathias who flung the door open and Ianto swung inside the room, gun sweeping over the inside of the building in one fluid motion. He and Mathias worked together seamlessly searching through the small building for any signs of life. There were none. In fact,

“It’s gone,” Mathias said as the Docter and Master came inside the building.

“Who had access?” The Doctor asked walking over to the diagrams on the table and fishing through them, the Master following him actually curious. He looked over the Doctor’s shoulder. “Quite brilliant, did you design this?”

Mathias shook his head. “No, I just helped build it. Trey designed it, along with Archer though he did most of the initial designing. She was just able to figure out the tuning so that it would home in on just one set lifeform.”

“She’s done more than that,” the Master said nodding to some clipped wires laying on the table in the center of the room. Beside them were some computer chips, what looked like slides and some hand held equipment. “Recently by the looks of it.”

Ianto walked over to the table and picked up one of the chips, turning it over it his hand before tossing it to Mathias. “What’s it for?”

Mathias studied it for a moment. “Hard to say without a working computer.” He said his eyes dancing towards the broken terminal. “But I…” he paused. “She modified it.” He walked to the table looking at the other chips, touching each one in turn his hands starting to tremble. “Dear God in Heaven…”

“What’s the matter?” Ianto asked. “What’s she planning?”

“Well the devise was originally designed to home in on the Kindred, to attack their very DNA and kill them. To break down their molecular structure instantly.” Mathias said.

“She she’s altered it to wipe out humans,” The Doctor said.

“No,” Mathias replied. “It’s far, far worse than that. I’d need a working computer to know for certain but if I’m right,”

“She’s going to kill us all.” Ianto said suddenly understanding. “She’s going to wipe out the humans.”

“I think she’s going to wipe out more than that.” Mathias said. “If I recognize these chips right,” he said picking the three chips up.

“She’s going to kill everything,” the Doctor said. “Humans, Elite and Kindred.” Mathias nodded. “Give me a half hour and I’ll get something running. Maybe we can find a way to counteract it.”

“What’re you looking at me for?” The Master asked.

“Because you’re going to help me.” The Doctor replied taking off his shackles. “Because if you don’t, and we fail, everyone’s going to die… including Dani.”

“Mathias,” Ianto said “we need to find,” the four men hit the ground as the east wall of the building suddenly vaporized in a hail of wood and concrete.

“Good bye Mathias!” Archer cried. “Kill them all.” She said to the dozen Elite standing with her and they began to swarm the building, Archer running off the other way towards an idling vehicle just as there was an explosion from under the castle. A smile crossed her face and she looked out to the woods as the sound of gunfire came from that direction as well. Everything was going according to plan. Pretty soon, pretty soon God’s will would be done.

Kas and Jake

******************************************

Jake couldn’t wait. He honestly couldn’t wait. They’d set things right and everything would go back to normal. He’d have his town back, his mortuary back… everything, and he was planning on spending a week or so in the basement of the morgue blowing off steam. As it stood, right now well… right now he and Kas were alone, walking through the woods in the opposite direction from Mick and Kara. He stared at Kas’s back, thinking about all of the things that she’d said to him over the time that they’d known each other. He thought about her condescending little remarks, her insults, her demands, her demeaning attitude. The fucking bitch… and here she was leading the way as though she were better than him… again.

He wasn’t even aware of what he was doing until it was done. His fingers wrapped around a fallen tree branch and in one fluid movement, he swung it though the air, the other end cracking against the back of her skull much in the same way that he’d knocked out Dani. Fucking bitch, fucking bitches, they all had it coming, ever single fucking one of them. He swung the branch again as Kas staggered falling to her knees.

“Fucking cow,” he snarled at her. “Think you’re fucking better than me do you?”

“Jake,” she groan, blood soaking into the back of her shirt from the cut on her head from the blow. She fell to her hands as he hit her again, this time across the back of the shoulders hard enough for the branch to snap. Her gun skittered over the ground and under a thick brush. She just had time to dive forward before his weight landed on her.

“Normally I like ‘em cold.” He said and licked her ear. “But you, I want you to feel it…to feel me cum in you when you die.” Jake flipped her over and tore open the front of her shirt and paw at her breasts roughly.

Kas kicked out against him weakly, seeing double due to the blows. This wasn’t happening. She was NOT going to be raped and murdered by this asshole. No fucking way! Her hands reached out above her head looking for anything that she could use to defend herself but her gun was gone. She opened her mouth to scream but he shoved her turn shirt between her lips almost hard enough to shove it down her throat to choke her. Adrenaline starting to flow, she found herself coming back together after the surprise attack faster than she’d thought that she would and she clawed at his face.

Jake let out a hiss of pain as her nails broke skin leaving red welts down her cheek. He’d have to figure out a way to explain those but he was a smooth talker, he’d figure something out. No problem. He ripped open the front of her jeans yanking them down, her panties ripping and leaving red welts in her skin. He couldn’t remember the last time he was this excited by a living thing. He felt like he did his first time with a body, heart in his throat, skin tingling with excitement, his breathing fast. “You’re gonna love this, I promise.” He said leaning down and biting her left nipple hard. Kas screamed into the shirt that he held there, his other hand unzipping his pants.

Kas suddenly stopped struggling as her arm swung down towards him. Jake looked up, surprised by the sudden stillness of her body and he let out a scream as a twig pierced his left eye. Kas kicked Jake in the chest, flipping herself over and scrambling away, a feat difficult by her pants around her ankles but she didn’t have time to think about it. She dove into the bush blindly, turning her face against the thorns feeling them bite into the flesh of her arms and bare chest. She’d always like roses before this. All she could think about was the gun. Get the gun. Get the gun.

Jake grabbed the end of the twig sticking out from his eye socket and ripped it free with a scream. Blood and, and he didn’t know what, eye goo maybe, ran down his cheek. “I’m going… to fucking… kill…” he stopped as he turned towards her, seeing her kneeling there practically naked, gun in her hands. “Kas… I…”

There were a million things that Kas wanted to say. A thousand insults as she looked at him, blood running down his face, his now flaccid penis hanging from the front of his pants. She wanted to shoot it, to blow it off but that wasn’t right. No, he needed to stand trial. He was ruined. She was government and he’d just tried to rape and kill her. Seeing him behind bars would be far more suiting, be someone prison bitch. See how he liked that, the bastard.

Pull the trigger, Jack’s voice filled her ear gently. It’s God’s will… we’re his hand Kasandra.

“But I,” she said. “I don’t… “ Kas frowned her head turning to the side.

God’s will be done, Jack’s voice said again. Together we will reset it all as he has commanded. Kas, my Queen… my love… kill him. Prove to me that you’re mine.

“Yes,” Kas said almost dreamily.

“Who the fuck’re you talking to?” Jake asked confused, he turned his head as he heard the sound of breaking twigs and rushing figures through the brush. “Look, Kas, I’m sorry. I lost my head, I…”

“God’s will be done,” Kas said, her eyes distant and her finger pulled the trigger. The bullet entered Jake’s other eye and he fell to the ground, dead. She let out a small groan, the gun slipping from her fingers as she fell back to the ground blacking out.

*****************************************

Mick and Kara

******************************************

“It almost seems to easy,” Mick said as he and Kara walked through the woods. “

“I was just thinking the same thing,” Kara replied. “She’d come here for the weapon, and she knows that we’d follow her.”

“And she knows that we’re a threat.” Mick said in agreement. “We’re the ones that the Master was the most worried about, she knows that we’re different. She doesn’t know how, but she’s smart enough to put that together.”

“You worried?” Kara asked.

Mick nodded and stopped, leaning against a tree. “It just… you’d think that there’d be something, a trap or ambush or… something. But there’s nothing. No signs of any activity out here so unless they’re all in hiding in the bunkers,” he shook his head. “I’ve been in enough hairy situations to know when to trust my gut and right now, my gut’s not happy.”

“Neither is mine.” Kara said. “I keep thinking about the second prophecy that Jett gave.”

“The one with the snakes,” Mick said pushing away from the tree as the two continued walking. “What about them?”

“What if it’s twofold?” She said thoughtfully. “If it’s one of things that have two meanings to them.”

Mick shrugged. “I suppose, why?”

“I don’t know,” she said. “I mean, I agree with Gwen that… that it could very possibly mean that they’re a traitor but,”

“But you think it’s something else.” Mick said and she nodded again.

“Don’t you think… those things, in Jack’s brain.” She fell silent as they heard a twig snap. The two of them froze, dropping down into the brush, weapons in their hands waiting. A minute later they were greeted by a deer walking leisurely through the clearing ahead of them. Still though, they waited a minute, just in case. After a moment Mick nodded to her and they continued to walk. “On G’Kar’s scans, they kind of,”

“Looked like snakes,” Mick said finishing her thoughts. “You think Jack’s still working for the Master?”

“For someone,” Kara said.

Just then they heard the sound of Jake screaming and they turned, running as fast as they could through the foliage in the direction that they’d just come from. The bottom of Mick’s stomach fell out as they heard a gunshot off to their right and they turned in unison keeping up the pace. Within minutes the found Jake laying on the ground both eyes gone and blood soaking into the earth his cock still out and the smell of piss and shit strong in the air.

“Kas!” Mick said running to her and stripping off his jacket, draping it over her shoulders covering her. “Kas, honey… are you okay? Kas?” He touched her face, his fingers shaking and he grabbed her pants, pulling them back up over her hips. It was more than obvious what had happened. He had half a mind to shoot that bastard again. His fingers slipped in back of her head feeling blood and the cut back there, but there was no break in the bone. Her skull was intact and he let out an audible sigh of relief.

“Mick?” Kas said softly, her eyes fluttering open. “Mick what… Jake!” She gasped sitting up, her hands grabbing at his jacket pulling it shut to cover her bare chest.

“What happened?” Kara asked coming over from where she’d been looking at Jake’s body.

“It’s it obvious?” Mick asked angrily.

“I don’t,” Kas shook her head touching the back of her head. “He hit me and tried, tried to rape me. He was going to kill me.” She said looking at Mick. “I don’t, I don’t remember… did I… shoot him?”

There was no time for an answer as the woods around then erupted in gunfire and the three of them hit the ground hard.

[/b]*******************************************

Dani

**********************************************[/b]

“She’s just about ready,” a voice said and Dani opened her eyes, squinting against the bright light. Just that morning they’d taken her out of her cell and brought her in her, strapping her down and putting needles in her arms. True to her stubborn nature she’d continued to refuse all food given to her and it seemed as though they’d finally resorted to feeding her through IVs and tubes. Goody gumdrops, the thought licking her lips finding them dry. She would have sold her soul at that moment for some Chapstick.

“A few more hours.”

“Good,” said another voice. “Has she called in?”

“She has,” said the first voice. “She said that they just arrived and she’s on her way with the device.”

“God’s will be done,” said the second voice.

“God’s will be done,” replied the first. “Make sure that the Rift is tuned correctly. If the frequency isn’t exact,”

“I know what will happen sister.” Said the second voice. “Everything is in place for the End.”

“Praise God.”

Dani blinked again, her sight clearing and seeing two violet people standing off to her right above her. She seemed to be in some sort of, medical area with tiled walls and a circular staircase leading around and up. She could see silver doors where bodies would have been held and a shiver ran through her spine at the thought. Ready? She wondered, ready for what? She wasn’t going to help them if that’s what they were talking about. Fuck that shit.

She looked down at the restraints holding her in place knowing that picking them were futile. They reached from her wrist half way up to her elbow and though the metal looked thin, it was stronger than it looked. Dani let out a long sigh. There was nothing that she could do at this point. Nothing but lay here and wait, helpless to warn her friends.

Ianto… the Doctor… they’d be coming for her… and when they came…

She rested her head against the cool metal table and closed her eyes again. She had to figure a way out of here. She had to help her friends. She had to. She just had to.

[size=7]MOD NOTE:

Just to wrap things up here… Jack does NOT remember killing Andrew and Kas doesn’t remember hearing the voice. You’re in the middle of a firefight so you best kick some ass. Figure out the modifications on the weapons, arrange new transport, restock for weapons and fuel and all that happy crappy… You are NOT to leave Manorbrier until I tell you otherwise. I’m debating the idea, but I’ve got some things to work out so for now… like I said you’ve got shit to do.

Gwen turned as gunfire sounded from outside the room.

"Shit, they're still here!" John cried, pulling out his pistol.

"Shhh, don't make any noise, we don't know that they know we're here." Jack said, barely speking above a whisper.

They were slinet for a moment, listening to the gunfire and heavy treads of a lot of booted feet.

Christ, Gwen thought how many, twenty, thirty? Fifty? Gwen couldn't be sure.

Jack waved his hand to get thier attention. He pointed to Gwen, and pointed to the door. He wanted her to cover the door, hide behind it as the bad guys came in. Gwen nodded, and she went over to the door, being careful not to make too much noise.

Along the way, she passed Andrew's body...or what was left of it. She couldn't bring herself to fully look at it, like a mockery of his formewr self. He had been a great guy, alwyas helpful, always ready to lend a hand. She remembered, back at Dante's barn, when the Kindred had threatened to break in, how Andrew and Foley shot at them to get their attention, saving them all.

Now both Foley and Andrew were dead. Gwen manged to hold on by thinking that once they had won, this timeline would never have happened, and Dante, Annabelle, Andrew, Foley, Rhosyn, everyone who died would be allright again.

Gwen pulled out her pistol, checking her magazine as she went. 15 rounds, plus two extra reloads, for a total of 45 rounds. Jack and John were equipped the same, so Gwen figured 135 rounds, provided Jack hadn't lost his weapon in the explosion. Gwen just hoped it would be enough. It sounded like a whole army was downstairs.

Even as they listened, the footsteps grew louder, like they were going upstairs. They may not know that they were here, or where they were, but they were going to search the building anyways. Gwen still heard voices and footsteps downstairs, she guessed they had left a few to guard the lower level.

Gwen looked back to John and Jack. John had his weapon out, his normally cocky and arrogant features now set ina grim line. He looked a man ready to kill. Jack was still a bit dazed, he was fumbling around, but at least he still had his gun. There was that at least.

The footsteps upstairs were more cautious now, slower, less noisy, though Gwen could easily hear them.

A thought occured to Gwen. What if these people were friendlies? Fellow Resistence members, who were looking for survivors, like they were?

Something told Gwen this wasn't the case. People looking for survivors wouldn't shoot at nothing. Gwen figured they were making a sport of it, shooting dead bodies, just because.

Jack groaned a sa shadow appeared at the base of the door. Gwen almost fired thruogh the door before she remembered it was metal, her bullets wouldn't even make a dent in the thick steel. The doorknob jiggled, and the door opened.

The room was dark, and John and Jack were crouched behind a computer console. A beam of light shone across the room, taking in the dead bodies at the computers, the destroyed machinery.

"I'm tellin ya, I heard it in here!" A gruff male voice said.

"I think you're going nutty, mate." A higher pitched voice said, "Everyone here is dead, no one could have triggered an explosion."

"All the same, we should check it out." The gruff voice said. The flashlights bobbed a bit as the two men got closer. The lights scanned the room, noting every detail, until the light hit upon Andrews corpse.

"Oy, was he here before?"The high ptch asked, sounding abit nervous.

"I don't think so, I don't remember killing this one." Gruff voice replied, swinging his light across the room.

Directly on Jack and John.

"Hey, what the fuck...." Gruff voice never finished his sentence, he was drowned out by two 9 millimeter rounds piercing his chest. He crashed heavily to the floor as his partner yelled wildly and started firing, rounds being poured into the room. High Pitch started backing up...

Until Gwen, in one movement, stood up, drove her gun into his back, and opened fire, three rounds forcing themselves through his bodie, at this range, probably obliterating a few organs. High pitch gave a choked gasp, before he too fell to the floor, dead.

From out in the hallway, Gwen heard angered voices yelling, and she just barely managed to close the door, and lock it before a heavy body crashed into it. Pounding fists smashed into the door, but the heavy steel held.

At least until the enemy brought explosives. They needed an exit, fast.

"Find a way out of here!" Gwen shouted, looking around the room for another door, before realizing there was no other door.

John started looking up at the ceiling, while Jack searched the walls near the floor. It took Gwen a moment to realize they were looking for a vent shaft.
she let them llook, turningher attention to the two men they had just killed.

They were Elites, Gwen knew that much, and they were armed with a wicked looking rifle, similar in build to an AK-47, except...sleeker, somehow, less bulky, with a larger barrel jutting out from under the first one . Gwen picked it up, idly turning it in herhands. It seemed simple enough, there was a trigger, and a quick search of their bodies yielded four strange looking, slightly flattened cubes that looked like reloads for the rifles. Unfortunatley, Gwen had no idea how to reload the rifle. Maybe Jack or John knew.

She slung one of the rifles over her shoulder, and held the other in her hands, covering the door. If one of those bastards tried to get in.....

"Here, I found it!" John siad, crouching by a vent cover set near the floor. Grasping it with his finger tips, he gave a grunt, and heaved. With a loud clang, the vent cover came off, and John fell on his ass to the ground, with a loud curse.

"Gwen, you first, go!" Jack shouted, coming to stand next to her, his own weapon raised at the door.

Gwen didn't bother to argue, if Jack got shot, he'd be fine, if gwen got shot, she'd die. She backed up to the vent, keeping her gun trained on the door. When she hit the wall with her back, she turned, and crawled down into the vent. It was a tight fit, but Gwen could crawl along on her hands and knees. Behind her, she heard thumping and cursing as John crawled in after her.

"Jesus Christ, its stuffy in here." John complained. "Then again, the view is nice." He snickered.

Gwen thought about what he said, then the penny dropped. He was staring at her ass. She rolled her eyes, ignoring him. She'd remind hrself to kick his ass later.

Behind John, Jack crawled in, huffing as he went. "I barred the door, they wont be able to follow us until they break it down!"

"How many are there?" Gwen called over her shoulder.

"Lots!" Jack turned around, a remarkable feat in itself, and set about replacing the grate in the wall.

Gwen led the way, it was dark, and she couldn't see very well, and it was hard to concentrate knowing there was someone staring at your ass the whole way, but eventually Gwen found a grate that was at floor level with a different room, one that was thankfully clear of enemies. Gwen pushed on the grate, and it gave way, spilling her out into the room.

She tucked and rolled, coming out into a crouch, rifle held ready. She moved out of the way to give John some room to exit the vents.

"God dammit!" He said, brushing himself off, "Thought we'd never get out of there!"

"Your still alive, arent you?" Gwen said, craning her head back to look at him.

"There is that, and the smell was pretty nice in there." John smirked.

Again, Gwen had to pause before she realized what he meant. Johns smug grin disappeared as Gwen sunk her fist into his stomach. He doubled over, gasping for air, as Jack popped out of the vent. He took one look at the two of them, shaking his head.

"C'mon, kids, we gotta work together if we're gonna pull thru this...." Jack said, but he stopped as there was a pounding on the door.

"Open up, we know your in there!" A voice cried out.

"Ah FUCk, didn't we just leave this party?" John said, raising his gun. Unlike the previous room, this door wasn't made of steel. Instead, it appeared to be some kind of light weight wood substitute. It wouldn't hold long.

Jack apparently figured the same thing, and decided to take initiative. He raised his pistol, and emptied his clip, the rounds tearing into the light wood, and they heard several different screams of pain.

But now, with the door weakened, the Elites would come barging in. Out of the corner of her eye, Gwen sawa second door on the far wall.

"Over there!" She shouted, raising the rifle to her shoulder. As she peered down the sight, she noticed a red button on the side of the gun. Instead of puling the trigger, Gwen pushed the button, to see what happened.

A bright light and massive explosion erupted from the second barrel under the main barrel, some kind of grenade launcher. The recoil was too much for Gwen, who felt herself fly back into the wall. She connected, hitting the wall painfully.

The last thing she saw before blacking out was the shattered ruins of the door, and more Elite pouring into the room.

OOC: cliffhanger, i know, but i didnt wanna end the fun so soon:) if someone else wants to write for this, go ahead, if not, ill take over the reins again:)

as per our lovely MOD, there WERE 30 Elites, i killed two in the first room, and lets just say 5 more died from Jack and the grenade launchr, so now heres 23 left:) have fun, ya'll!
"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man whose gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Kas/Mick/Kara - Getting Through This

OOC: Total and complete crap, I know. But it was the best I could come-up with. Sorry.

IC:

“What the hell.” Mick said as Kara, Kas and he moved along the ground, there were at least three explosions and gunfire everywhere. “Move he shoved as they moved along. Kas was so lost and confused Jake had tried to kill her, rape her. She remembered his eyes, she saw the hated the anger, that was something she would never forget, then nothing. It was all blank. As she pushed through the mud and dirt, there was more gunfire more screaming. None of it seemed real to her, she wasn’t even sure what was happening around her. There were times when someone would stop her moving, cover her protect her and then they would move along again.

How could she have been so stupid, she aloud him to get that kind of jump on her. She knew better, she knew he was no good from the start. All the indications where there, in his file but she never put it together. There was no way of knowing, but still, then there was that look and how he felt on top of her, at one point Kas felt herself throw-up, “There will be more time for that latter love, come on.” Kara said dragging her along. Kas knew she should be doing something, something was wrong, they were fighting, no she was fighting. Still all she saw was Jake on her trying to push himself into her. Force himself on her. All the anger and hatred, those eyes, that look, it was too much. Kas knew she was stronger that, she had been through worse with Antonio, but that was different, very different. Still seeing Jake like that reminder her so much of so many things she had tried to forget, no this was worse…much worse.

“Kara take care of Kas.” Kara nodded. Mick looked at Kas and ran a hand down the side of her face, he knew this look she was withdrawn retreating into her mind, but now, god they didn’t this now. Jake, that bastard got off lucky, Kas only shot him killing him, that was nothing what Mick wanted to do to him for this. “God I’m sorry Kas, we should have never split up. This is all my fault.” Kara looked at Mick, “No…don’t think like that, we need you. You’re military of old, we need more then anything, the American Army fought the Kindred for years before the North American Continent fell. They had help from many nations, but they where the best. You’re American Army Mick, better trained, we need that. Kas…Kas will have to wait.” Mick shook off his expression and licked his lips. Kas looked at him, “Va Antonio que seré fino. Te amo.” Mick looked at her a moment. He recognized it was Spanish, but Antonio, who was Antonio. Kara looked at Kas confused, it was clear she didn’t know Spanish.

Mick started to move and Kas watched, they’re coming my queen, my love, be ready. They’re two of them to you’re left. Fire! a voice said Kara and Mick didn’t see the two Elite flanking them and Kas wasn’t even sure how she knew they were there, but she pulled out her gun quickly and fired, four shots, “¡No más! ¡No moriré como este ni uno ni otro él! No ahora.” Kas yelled and the two Elite dropped. Mick and Kara looked at her, “How did she know?” Kara said looking at Mick. Mick shook his head, “stress, post traumatic stress maybe. I’m not sure.” Mick moved quickly and Kara helped Kas along, to the bodies, Mick and Kara quickly took they’re weapons and check their bodies for anything useful while Kas looked on, she was in a dream state. “ Somos seguros. Para ahora.” Mick looked at Kas worried. “Mick what did she say?” Kara asked finding the extra clips of ammo on one of the bodies. “I think it’s something about ‘safe now’.” Kara nodded looking around quickly, “Mick look at the bodies.” Mick looked at the now dead Elite the shoots that killed them were perfect sniper shoots. One each through the head between the eyes and a second one each through the heart, Mick knew that was impossible, no one could be that lucky, something was wrong. But now was not the time.

Kas sat there looking at them going through the bodies, she knew she wasn’t really there and she was trying to pull herself out of this, but right now she felt nice and safe, like when Mick held her, she knew nothing was going to happen to her, she was safe for the time being.

She remembered the night back in Spain the rain had been strong all day. Antonio should be coming over soon to go over details on the church for the wedding. It was going to be so perfect. Kas stopped for a moment, no now wasn’t the time for this. She had to pull herself out of this. Antonio; Jake they were the past now. Nothing could change the past. Kas looked at Mick and Kara and moved quickly to them. “We need to regroup with the others. The Doctor and them were over checking the out buildings. Jack and his group where down in the base. We need to get together and figure out what is happening here.” Mick and Kara looked at her, “Kas are you ok.” She shook her head, “No…but I’ll be fine.”

“We need to find the others and quick.” Kas said regaining control of herself, fight now, survive now. She had to focus and they had to get through this. She had to get through this.

May it be said, when the sun sets on your life, you made a difference.

Ianto/Doctor/Master/Mathias - The Sonic Screwdriver

“Fire!” They heard a voice say and the room filled with gunshots. The Doctor pulled out his sonic screwdriver and pushed a button on it and something happened Ianto saw the twelve Elite who had started firing drop like flies a couple at first, then the rest. “What, was that!” Ianto said looking around them, holstering his gun. Mathias standing up and walking over to them. The Doctor smiled, “a small energy pulse, I managed to figure it out working with G’Kar before we left, I modified it from what we tried at the farm. The Elite aren’t quite human nor are they quite Kindred, they are much weaker, in some respects. It won’t kill them, but it will knock them out for a several minutes and it only affects those in the immediate area.” The Master shrugged, “Took you long enough.” The Doctor looked at him as Ianto gave him a look, “I didn’t see you come up with anything brilliant.” The Master shrugged, Ianto smiled at the Doctor who returned the smile. Mathias had already started to take their weapons and tie them up. Ianto, the Doctor and the Master quickly followed suite and in short order all 12 were tired up and their weapons had been removed.

“Don’t underestimate their strength.” The Master said pulling a knock even tighter. He also gagged the male Elite he was finishing with.

Ianto checked the one he was working as Mathias watched him, “Nice knot.” Ianto laughed.

The Doctor finished looking around what was left of the room, only the wall and door where in ruins, but the place was a mess. Several of the Elite started to come too and struggle the Doctor looked at them, “effects lasted shorted then I thought.” He pulled out his sonic screwdriver and made a few adjustments, by now all 12 Elite were awake and struggling. He hit the button again and they were out again. “Lets see how long this round goes, shall we.” The said putting the devise away.

Ianto and Mathias stood there watching the Doctor in complete astonishment, the Doctor didn’t pay them any attention but the Master had, “It’s not that impressive…really.” The Master said a bit annoyed at how Ianto and Mathias were reacting.

The Doctor clapped his hands together “Now, we need to figure out what she changed.” The Doctor said with a smile on his face looking at the pieces of equipment in the room, “Master if you don’t mind.” The Master walked over to meet him at the table and the two started to pick-up things and put them back down.

“We need to find the others and regroup.” Ianto said. The Doctor nodded only paying him half his attention, “You and Mathias see if you can find the others, but be careful. The Master and I will figure out what has been changed.”

“Right.” Mathias said picking up a couple of the Elite’s weapons tossing one to Ianto and slinging the other over his back. They moved quickly, “Kas and the others were out this way, we should look for them first.” Ianto said and Mathias agreed.

“Do you think we should have left the Doctor and Master together.” Mathias said a bit worried. Ianto nodded, “Right now they are the smartest we’ve got and that screw driver thing of the Doctors hasn’t seem to let him down yet.” Mathias nodded and they moved quickly into the trees.

“What about Archer?” Ianto said looking in the direction that he thought she went.

“She got into a transport and left, I saw her leave right before I hit the ground.” Mathias said, stopping listening for a moment then moving on.

“We need to find the others and find her.” Ianto said. There were several shots fired and Ianto and Mathias hit the ground. Mathias pointed in a direction and they moved that way, it was in a different direction then they were heading, but since that was the only gun fire they heard it made since to check it out. They both knew that there were still more Elite here, they had only taken out 12, well they didn’t the Doctor did.

OOC: Again I know it sucks…but it was better then the nothing I had come up with. Mick if you want to meet up with Ianto and Mathias that would be cool. If not I will do it tomorrow. Gwen I’m not sure what you have in mind but I figured I would leave it to you to do what you want to do. By my count there are still 9 Elite left.

May it be said, when the sun sets on your life, you made a difference.

It was amazing how quickly things could go straight to Hell.

He'd seen it before, on the battlefield, but it was never something you could fully get used to. Watching the best laid plans just explode in your face. Something had gone horribly awry, and now they had to pick up the pieces.

Fucking Jake MacReady.

Mick shook his head, struggling to get over his anger at the man. He found the task impossible. He shouldn't have agreed to let Kas go with him. He should have gone with Jake himself. He could have handled Jake quietly if he'd tried anything. Then Kas wouldn't have....

Then he would have waited for another opportunity. Jake was dumb, but he wasn't stupid. He wouldn't have tried anything on him. Then he would have attacked Kas at another time, and Gog knew what the outcome of that fi9ght would have been.

It was over now. God knew what this would do to her when all this had blown over and they were back in their own time, but for the time being, it was forgotten. Glancing over at Kas, he saw that she was set and determined. The concentration on her face. Mick said, "Alright, we want to do this as quietly as possible. As soon as we fire a bullet, our position is blown."

Kas said, "The main buildings are this way. The gunfire has stopped, at least for now. If we're careful, we can make our way in that direction and get inside without getting into an altercation with the other side." Mick said, "You've got it, commander." Kas gave him a small smile. It was real, but there was pain behind it. Fucking Jake MacReady.

They crouched into a set of bushes and started making their way in the direction of the compound. Every noise seemed magnified by millions. The rustle of leaves and the snapping of twigs souned like gunfire. Why was it that every time you were trying to be silent, it seemed that you were making a lot of noise?

For what seemed like ages, they made their way using all available foliage for cover. Mick heard movement to his right and motioned for everyone to duck and cover. They laid down and Mick found himself face to face with some sort of green snake.

He froze. He was an outsider to the country and knew nothing about the wildlife. He had no idea at all if the snake coiled less than two feet from him was deadly or not. He stared at it in panic. Why a fucking snake? Why now? His one phobia, and here it was looking at him and sticking it's tongue out.

He made no movements. The snake didn't move either. It simply sat there, egaging him in a staring contest. Mick drew his gun and aimed it at it, ready to blow the fucker into a bunch of mushy pieces if it looked like it was going to bite.

The footsteps got closer. He could hear the twigs snapping. The snake, irritated by the movement coming its way, sprung into action. before he could react, it slithered forward and on his hand. Mick felt his breath stop, frozen with fear and revulsion. The snake slid slowly away, brushign his hand as it went.

He wanted to stand up. He wanted to scream, but he knew he couldn't. Soon, the snakes tail drug his hand and it was gone into the underbrush. The walking feet were on them. Mick heard muttering. He looked back at Kas and Kara, he was about to whisper something when one of the feet stepped down on his hand. Mick stifled the scream, but it upset the owner of the foot's balance and he fell on his ass.

Mick drew his gun, and the man drew his. Mick said, "Ianto?" Ianto looked at him. Mick looked slightly away and gave Ianto a "That was close" Look. Ianto said, "You're alive. Thank god. Where's Jake?" Mick said, "Dead. We'll tell you when we're inside."

Mathias leaned down and said, "The direction we came in is clear. It's suggest we move." Mick grabbed Kas' hand and said, "You don't have to ask me twice." They stood up and quickly and quietly made their way towards the buildings.

Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny
Jack laughed suddenly pushing his back against the heavy door, a dozen or so Elite pounding against the other side trying to get inside.

“I don’t see what’s so bloody funny,” John said holstering his gun. “I’m out.”

“I am too,” Gwen said. “He’s enjoying this.”

“And he calls me crazy.” John muttered.

“Come on,” Jack said grunting as there was a solid, heavy blow on the other side of the door. “Doesn’t it make you feel… alive?” He grinned at Gwen, his blue eyes sparkling in the dim light of the room.

“Jack, some of us can’t come back if we’re shot in the head,” she said meeting his gaze. “This isn’t fun, this is bloody scary. “If they get through that door,”

“Which they will in a matter of minutes,” John said as the metal groaned behind Jack. “And no bloody way out. Well, if I’m going to die,” he said raking his fingers through his hair smoothing it back. “At least I’ll do it looking good.”

“You’re not going to die,” Jack said, his eyes sweeping around the room. He winced, the door behind him growing hot. They were trying to cut their way through now.

“Well can you fit through that?” Gwen asked pointing up to the ventilation shaft. “Because I know I can’t.”

“Who’d idea was it to duck in here again?” John asked.

“Yours.” Gwen replied looking at him.

“Oh yes, sorry about that.” John said. “Just like old times, aye?”

Jack laughed, shifting his weight against the door so that the hot metal wouldn’t burn him. “Like the time we were running from the Zorlons are Artica 12 and you led me into that cave. If Matthew hadn’t shown up,”

“Mathew, Mathew, Mathew,” John said clearly irritated by the name though Gwen had no idea why. Jack hadn’t ever mentioned this Matthew before. Then again, there was a lot about Jack that she didn’t know. “Bloody savior of the universe.”

“You just didn’t like that he outclassed,”

“He never outclassed me.” John snapped. “He was just… lucky.”

“Oh?” Jack replied with a smile. “Is that what you’re calling it now?”

“I hate to interrupt,” Gwen said. “But this really isn’t the time to walk down memory lane here. In case you forgot we’re kind of in danger of DYING here.”

“Not really,” Jack said. “Is there something heavy for you two to hide in?”

“I don’t… why?” Gwen asked.

“Here,” John said yanking open a heavy steel door on a chest. It looked like an old chest freezer from the 40s. Gwen recognized it from something that her grandparents had when she’d gone to visit them. “Lead lined.”

“Oh God,” Gwen said looking inside to see what looked like body parts of Elite and what she assumed were Kindred. “Jack,”

“Clear it,” Jack snapped at them. “And step on it, they’re cutting through the door.” He let out a hiss of pain feeling the back of his shirt begin to burn but he kept his weight on the door, he had to. They’d finished cutting through the lock so now he was the only thing keeping them out. “God this hurts,” he grunted closing his eyes, his hand sliding into his pocket and pulling out a small silver and glass orb.

“Is that, oh Jack, you sneaky bastard. Where did you get that?” John asked.

“I don’t know,” Jack replied honestly. “It’s just… in my… pocket. Stop paying attention to me and clear that damn thing out! Gwen!”

“Okay!” She said turning and yanking out body parts, flinging them behind her carelessly. “What is that thing?” She asked John who was doing the same thing she was.

“Thermal bomb.” John said taking out the last of it. “Ladies first.”

“Oh Hell no,” Gwen said looking at the blood in the bottom of the freezer. It was frozen sure, but she still didn’t like the idea of laying down in it.

“Get in the damn freezer!” Jack snapped at them and he saw John sigh, climbing in first followed by Gwen. He gave her a wink as she glanced at him briefly before shutting the lid, laying down on top of John. With the lid securely shut Jack moved away from the door letting out a hiss of pain as a long strip of skin tore away from his back, fused to the melting door. “Thank God I don’t scar,” he said activating the bomb as he pulled a desk over onto its side, jumping behind it. Vanity was, well, he was vain, he knew that, not overly so, but still vain. If he scared he wasn’t sure if he’d be so… stupid. This was going to hurt.

With a bang the door crashed in and Elite poured into the room, guns blazing. Jack dropped to the ground behind the desk, flinging the thermal bomb (how the hell had it gotten into his pocket he wondered) over the top towards the door. Bullets bit into the top of the desk, shredding the wood around him.

One… two… three… four… five…

Jack counted in time with the bomb and on fire, a hot, brilliant light flared, filling the room. He curled up into as small of a ball as he could manage behind the desk hearing the screams of the Elite as the temperature of the room skyrocketed. Papers and wood, including the desk, combusted. Jack felt his shirt burst into flames and he tore it off. The desk shielded him from the worst of the explosion and ensured that he wasn’t totally incinerated by the blast, but it didn’t protect him from the heat. His stomach turned over at the scent of burning flesh, knowing that what he was smelling was in fact himself baking in the heat. He opened his mouth to scream…

Jack sat up suddenly looking around, for a moment disoriented and confused before he remembered what had happened. It was like that sometimes, coming back, the confusion, a few beats of lapsed memory as his brain kicked back to life. Climbing back to his feet he looked down, seeing that his shirt was gone, his pants burned from the knees on down and his shoes…. With a sigh Jack pulled off what was left of his shoes and threw them aside, looking over across the smoking table. There was a crater by the doorway where the thermal bomb had detonated and piles of, well, what was left of the Elite that had come through the doorway. There’d been what, oh hell he hadn’t counted, but it looked like two more had been standing in the doorway.

Turning he suddenly remembered Gwen and John and saw that the front of the freezer had melted, the top fusing into the side. “Okay, well,” he clucked his tongue thoughtfully hearing the two of them beating at the lid trying to get out. For a moment, the idea of leaving them inside to suffocate was tempting. It was a fleeting thought, unnoticed by his conscious mind but it was there and he rubbed the back of his head thoughtfully.

He jumped over the crater into the hall and went into the next room tipping over the steel shelving, ripping off one of the arms. The steel was thick, strong, and simple clipped together so taking the bar wasn’t terribly difficult. He glanced at the stone wall seeing a small ripple in it, from the bomb no less and he went back into the other room, ramming the end of the bar as hard as he could under the lid on the corner where it wasn’t fused. Of course, he was screwed if it wouldn’t bend. Which it didn’t.

“God… damn it.” He grunted slamming the end in again, and then again, prying with all his strength until there was a sudden crack and the top of the freezer snapped open. Having all his weight on the bar, Jack crashed to the ground violently as Gwen and John gasped for air both covered in sweat. “Hi,” he said rolling over onto his back giving them a wave.

“Oh my God…” Gwen said looking at the devastation in the room. “Did you…”

“We should find the others,” Jack said standing up and helping Gwen out of the freezer.

“Ahem,” John said looking at him and holding out his hand as well.

With a shake of his head, Jack took his hand and ‘helped’ him out of the freezer as well. “Always the damsel in distress.” He quipped, giving his ass a light slap to which John winked. “Let’s go.” Jack finally said. “We need to regroup, kill these bastards and figure out…”

“Jack?” Gwen asked as he suddenly stopped speaking, his expression going blank for a moment. “Jack, are you…”

“Our next step.” He finished with a blink and looked at her with a frown unaware of what had just happened. “What?”

Gwen glanced at John who just shrugged. “Nothing,” she finally said. “Let’s go.”

Ianto/Kas/Mick/Doctor/Mathias/Kara/Master - When the Earth moves

“We haven’t seen anymore Elite.” Ianto whispered as they headed back to the Master and the Doctor. “We’ve only seen the two.” Mick said looking at Kas who said nothing on the subject. What was there to say, she shot them, she was an ok shot, she just got lucky, it happens. “What happened to them?” Mathias said as he stopped to listen, it was quiet. “I shot them.” Kas said. Mathias nodded and they moved on. They got back to the Doctor and Master who were arguing over something that was well over Ianto’s head; Kas and the others looked equally confused. Mick looked at the Elite knocked out and tied up, there were 12 of them.

“You guys did this.” Ianto and Mathias looked at the Doctor who smiled, “It was no bother really. They have been nice and quiet since, not sure how long they will be out, but they’re harmless for now.” Mathias and Kara went and checked the knots and made sure they were secure well the Doctor and Master went back to their conversation. Ianto walked up to Mick who was tending to Kas. Ianto could see the state of her, “Ok, so what happened?” Ianto said looking at the two of them. Mick looked at Kas giving her a worried look. She smiled, it was troubled but there was still a smile. She let out a sigh.

“Jake…he um…well…he tried to hurt me and…well…I.” Kas stopped talking. Ianto stood there angry, “It’s ok Kas…I understand. Let me see if I can find you something else to wear.” Ianto walked over to Mathias, “we need to find something for Kas to wear, Mick is tending to her.” Mathias nodded and looked over Ianto’s shoulder at Kas and Mick, they had moved over to a more secluded spot so Mick could take care of her. “Is it what I think?” Mathias said looking back at Ianto. Ianto nodded, “Jake got off lucky, if he lived there are ways to make someone like him suffer.” Mathias looked at Ianto, it was best to change the subject, “come with me, there are clothes over this way, in one of the store buildings.”

They quickly walked over to one of the other out buildings, “We haven’t seen other Elite, do you think it’s over?” Ianto said as Mathias opened up one of the small outbuilding, “I’m not sure Ianto, I would say for the most part. The Elite move quickly and in small groups, leaving the Kindred for the bigger battles, since we didn’t see any Kindred, then I would guess it is over.” Mathias stood guard as Ianto quickly went through the clothes, there was nothing great but he found a couple of things that would fit Kas, he had seen her enough to know what her sizes would be and how things to fit her. He draped the clothes over his arm and turned around looking at the old castle, it still didn’t look very different from what he and Andrew first got here, that seemed like a lifetime ago. “We need to find Jack and the others.”

“Agreed, they will be down in the bunker, once we get things settled up here, we will go there.” Mathias said scanning the area for life, there was now. The two made there way back to Ianto was taking note of the vehicles that were left, the Elite, it would seem, left them untouched, which was a good thing. “We’ll need to check out the transports, see if we can use them?” Ianto said and they turned another corner, Mathias leading the way weapon out. “Archer didn’t go after everything, there are still some of the supply building still standing and they looked untouched as well.” Mathias said as he stopped them listening, he looked up at the sky and saw a flock of birds fly over head. Ianto fallowed his gaze and saw them as well. “I hate flying beasts.” Mathias said, Ianto never even thought about it, but in this place where your enemy could swoop down and attack that fear seemed justified. They got back to the equipment building. The Doctor and Master were still talking and working on figuring out what Archer did and somehow Ianto figured they were already trying to rebuild some of the equipment.

They walked over to Mick, Kara and Kas. “We found these for you Kas.” Ianto said handing her the clothes. “Thanks Ianto, mine, well mine aren’t any good anymore.” Ianto nodded. “Kara do you mind giving me a hand.” Kara nodded and the two women walked into another room and closed the door. “Mick how is she?” Mick shook his head, “I’m not sure. She seems ok, but what he tried, she’s tuff, but it will catch up to her and when it does…”

Ianto was looking at the door, which Kara and Kas disappeared to. “She will fall apart.” Ianto said finishing the statement. Mathias and Mick both nodded. Mathias looked at the two men, “Until then we have a good to finish.” Mick and Ianto looked at Mathias, he was right of course, but that didn’t make it any easier.

“What do we have?” Mick said, looking at them, going into military mode.

“We still need to find Jack and the others they are down in the bunker.” Ianto said. Mick nodded, “There could still be Elite around.” Mathias shook his head, “not up here they will be down in the bunker.” Mick nodded, “How many ways in and out?” Mathias shrugged then spoke, “just the one.”

“Well that makes it easy.” Mick said with a smile.

“The other transport look ok, but we will need to check them out. There are also weapons and supplies, Archer, in her haste, didn’t get rid of everything.” Ianto said looking around. Mathias frowned, “Haste had nothing to do with it, she never counted on anyone living, her arrogance is to our benefit.” Mathias said.

****

“Kas are you ok.” Kara said helping to dress her wounds and get rid of her ruined clothes. Kas smiled, “It was all so strange, it felt like it wasn’t really happening I felt like I was watching a movie and it really wasn’t me.” Kara nodded, “It happens a lot. That is common.” Kas looked at her, “This happens a lot.” Kara frowned and nodded, “It does. The Elite treat human woman like toys. But you never get used to it.”

Kara finished the clean-up and turned her back as Kas got dressed in the clothes that Ianto had given her. “I can still smell him and fell him.” Kara nodded, “You will, it won’t ever leave you, but it will get better. You were very lucky to stop him when you did, it could have been worse…much worse.” Kara said again frowning. Kas looked at her, “It’s happened to you hasn’t it.” Kara nodded, “I was not as lucky as you, but I was young and couldn’t fight back.”

“Oh Kara I’m sorry.” Kas said reaching out her hand. Kara smiled, “It was long ago. I have learned a lot and it has never happened sense.” Kara said the pain of the incident still on her face. “You were very lucky.” Kara said and Kas nodded.

“Well this is as good as it’s going to get.” Kas said with a smile, trying to push the memory and the conversation out of her mind. Kara nodded, “You look much better.” Kas nodded, “I feel a bit better.” Kara left Kas’s prior clothes in a heap and the two woman walked back to join the others.

Ianto, Mick and Mathias all looked at the two, “We have a lot still to do.” Kas said looking around. “That we do.” Mick said. There was a sudden explosion from underground. The room shook and everyone started diving for cover, even the Doctor and Master hit the ground.

“What the hell was that?!” Mick shouted.

“No idea.” Ianto said covering his head as a few things fell on top of him.

“It came form the ground.” Mathias said.

“Earthquake maybe.” Kas said knowing that wasn’t an earthquake, but it sure felt like one.

“Someone must have set off a bomb.” Kara said as the ground stopped shaking and everyone stood-up dusting themselves off. “I think we still have some more of there friends around.” The Doctor said looking at the Elite on the ground completely unaware of what just happened.
May it be said, when the sun sets on your life, you made a difference.

With everything said and done and the Elite all dead Manorbrier fell silent, in a very eerie sort of way. Everything was silent, even the animals which added to the spooky nature of the place. There had been no survivors from Archer’s initial attack. None had been spared. Everyone had been killed. In reality there was little to do at Manorbrier at the moment. The Doctor and the Master were working on getting a computer up and running to double check Mathias’s fears. Occasionally they stopped to bicker with each other but they were working together well enough for Jack’s taste.

Jack flipped the knife he was holding idly in his fingers, watching the Master with a dark expression wanting to, well, no he didn’t. Killing him wouldn’t solve anything. It wouldn’t change anything and besides, it wouldn’t even kill him. The bastard would just regenerate. He knew that the Doctor keeping the Master on the TARDIS would a fate far worse than death for the Time Lord. That didn’t however stop him from wanting blood.

Before he did something stupid that he’d regret he tossed the knife onto the table and left the workroom

“I found these,” Ianto said handing over a pair of jeans, boots and a clean white t-shirt. “They’re not quite the correct size but,”

“Thank you,” Jack said taking the items. “You didn’t have to,”

“It’s my job.” Ianto replied.

“Mathias,”

“Is burring his friends,” Ianto said. “He said that it might be war, but they deserve to be buried. Mick and Andrew are helping. Here’s the weapons inventory, and Kas is checking the vehicles to see if we can get another transport. The other one,”

“Figured they would have destroyed it.” He said. “I’ll help Kas with the transports, maybe we can figure something together.” He set the clothes down on a large stone and began to strip. He’d never exactly been them modest type. To him, skin was skin and he wasn’t shy about it. He never had been. He slipped out of his burned pants looking at them and letting out a sigh. They’d been really comfortable too. With a shrug he tossed them aside and slipped on jeans.

“What are you smiling about?” Ianto asked.

“Nothing,” Jack replied. “Just thinking about the last time I wore jeans. Back with I was traveling with the Doctor.” He zipped them up. “Where’s Gwen?”

“Down in the bunker,” Ianto said. “Or at least that’s the last place I saw her when I was getting these. “I not to sure what she’s doing.”

Jack nodded slipping on the t-shirt and then the boots. “Give Mathias a hand,” Jack said. “We don’t have time to waste on burring the dead, but I don’t like the idea of leaving children to rot. He’s got until the transport is ready and the Doctor and Master verify those chips. Then what’s not done,”

Ianto nodded. “I understand. I’ll let him know.”

Jack watched Ianto turn and leave. He wanted to grab him, wrap himself around him, kiss him, taste him. No, he told himself. Let him go, it’s for the best. The best for who, he asked himself. For Ianto, he answered. He watched Ianto for a minute before turning and heading towards the carpool. Mathias could give Ianto what he couldn’t. All Jack had ever done was manage to hurt him, and he’d never wanted to do that. It had been the last thing that he’d wanted, but he couldn’t deny who he was. It wasn’t that Jack couldn’t be faithful, he could… when he loved just that one person, but the problem was he loved both of them. He wanted both of them.

“Jack,” Gwen said with a smiling seeing him as she came out of the bunker. “I found something,”

He grabbed her and kissed her, lips crushing against hers, his tongue meeting hers his trip to the carpool immediately forgotten. Gwen moaned into his mouth and her hands pushed in his chest trying to move him off her. Instead of moving away his hand slid up the front of her blouse to her breast and she pulled her head back from his, breathing hard.

“Jack,” she said gasping for air. She grabbed his wrist trying to pull it out from under her shirt. She closed her eyes feeling his lips on her neck, his teeth nip at her flesh. He was utterly intoxicating, but she tried to control herself. This wasn’t like the other night in the dark, surrounded by thick fog. It was mid day, against the side of the castle and she felt her backside bump into the warm stone as Jack pressed up against her. “Jack,” she sighed “we can’t.”

“Sure we can,” he said unbuttoning her pants with almost single minded determination. He pushed his hand down, her hand grabbing at his wrist to stop him and Gwen let out a shuddering moan. He licked her ear, feeling her wetness on his fingers. “That’s my girl,” he whispered in her ear.

“Jack, please,” Gwen gasped, her knees feeling weak as his fingers slipped inside her. “We can’t, oh God…Jack,”

He smiled into her neck feeling her press her hips down against his hand despite herself. “That’s my girl,” he said again nipping her earlobe.

“Jack,” she groaned, trembling against him.

“Well, that’s a sight,” John said coming around the corner and leaning against the side of the building.

“Fuck off, John.” Jack snapped at him, Gwen tensing and trying to pull away. “You need something?” He felt Gwen grabbing at his wrist trying to pull his hand away. He turned and looked at John, his eyes cold. “I’m busy here.”

“I can see that.” John replied watching them with a smile.

“Jack,” Gwen said gasping, wanting him to stop before she came to orgasm in front of John. Bad enough that this was happening now, in the open, during the day, but in front of John Hart. “Please…stop.”

Jack pulled away suddenly, staring at John angrily. “Later,” he snapped at him, grabbing Gwen’s wrist as she began to zip her pants back up. “Come on,” he said pulling her after him off towards the trees. “Follow us John, and I’ll shoot you.”

“Promises, promises,” John said. “Have fun!”

“I intend to,” Jack replied softly pulling Gwen into the underbrush and then turning around, kissing her again and pushing her up against a giant tree.

“What’s the matter with you?” Gwen asked with a frown turning her head away from his. Undeterred Jack pushed her pants down over her hips with single minded determination. “What did I tell you about,”

“I don’t care,” he replied unzipping his jeans and pushing her knees apart with his leg.

“But I do,” she said pushing at his chest, a flicker of a frown crossing her face at the look in his eyes. It was a look she didn’t know, she didn’t recognize. “Rhys,”

Jack thrust inside her hard. “I don’t give a fuck about Rhys.” He said darkly and he smiled at her. “So tight…”

“Jack,”

He put his hand over her mouth, meeting her eyes intently. “Gwen, shut up before I do something I don’t want to. That’s better,” he said as she wrapped her legs around his waist. “That’s my girl.”

“What’s the matter with you,” she gasped as he slammed into her again, the bark of the tree biting into her back.

“Nothing,” he said biting her neck hard enough to draw blood. Gwen let out a small cry of pain. “I’m fine. I just, need you.”

“Just don’t,”

His lips brushed her ear as he spoke, sending a shiver down her spine with both fear, and lust. “Don’t what, Gwen?”

“Not below the waist,” she gasped and let out a cry, climaxing against him which only caused him to thrust in harder.

Jack smiled against her neck. “But I’m going to Gwen,” he said softly in her ear.

“You promised,” she groaned pretty sure that her thighs would be bruised at the end of this with the way he was pounding into her.

“Not today I didn’t,” he said with a laugh, a cool laugh, a laugh not really his. “You’re mine Gwen, and I’m going to keep you.” His hand wrapped in her hair and he twisted her head, his lips crushing against hers with bruising force. “First you, then Ianto.” He said, his lips against hers and his tongue flicked out over her lips playfully, the corner of his mouth curled up. “It’s the Reckoning, Gwen. End of the world… I’ll cum in you as much as I want.” A second later he too climaxed, biting her shoulder hard and Gwen couldn’t help the cry that came out. He shuddered violently against her, breathing hard, staying inside her for a minute. “I love you,” he whispered finally in her ear. “More than…” he looked at her again, his eyes his own again. “I love you.”

“I… love you too.” Gwen replied as he pulled back and she reached down, her knees weak, to pull up her pants. “But I’m worried about you. You’re not… you’re not right yet.”

“Why?” Jack asked honestly puzzled.

“Well because, because…”

“What’d I do?” He asked, zipping up his jeans. “Gwen, did I do something? I mean, I know we, but did I…”

“No,” she said quickly realizing that he didn’t remember the things that he’d said when his eyes had gone gold and dark. All he remembered was the sex, not the words, the emotions.

“Did I do that?” He asked looking at her neck and shoulder. “Looks painful.”

“It’s okay,” she said touching the bite marks finding the skin tender. “You just got carried away is all. How’s your head?” She asked tucking in her shirt.

“It… it hurts again.” Jack said pulling his hand into his pocket for his pills and then remembering that the bottle had melted, the pills destroyed. “Damn it.” He muttered and shrugged. “I should get to Kas,” he said finally. “The transport,”

“Yeah,” Gwen replied. “We’ll talk later, okay?” She wanted to talk to someone about this, but she wasn’t sure who. She felt awkward talking to Ianto about it considering their relationship, and she didn’t know the Doctor that well… and they were the two people who knew Jack the best outside of herself.

“Okay,” he said with a small smile and leaned in, giving her a quick kiss before heading towards the carport.

Gwen let out a long sigh leaning against the tree and closing her eyes. What was she going to do? If they put things right everything would get even more complicated for her. What was she going to do about Jack? About Rhys? “Oh fuck, girl,” she said pushing herself away from the tree. “What are you doing?”

Gwen didn’t even see it coming, the large branch cracking against the back of her skull driving her face first to the ground. She let out a small gasp of surprise before it hit her again, this time in the shoulders. Her instinct was to fight but she was hit again, the blows coming so fast she couldn’t regain her composure and think straight. The blows came down around her head and shoulders, her arms and legs hitting her over and over again, her attacker silent and Gwen wrapped her arms around her face, trying to pull herself into a ball. The last thing that Gwen knew before she passed out was a furious voice whispering in her ear before the last blow.

“Stay away from him.”

The voice seemed familiar. It was a voice that she knew, but one that she couldn’t place due to the attack. Though she forgot the voice as that final blow came, she’d remember those four words when she woke up.

**********************

“Where the hell have you been?” Jack asked leaning against the side of the transport. “I thought you were, what happened?” He asked standing up and grabbing Kas’s wrists, her hands covered in dirt and blood.

“I don’t,” she blinked and looked at him confused. “I don’t… remember.” She frowned at him her eyes growing quiet. “You smell like sex.”

“Would you rather I smell like you,” he purred at her, leaning down to nuzzle her neck. “You smell like Mick.”

“At least I do my job,” she said. “I don’t put it off for a piece of ass.” She watched as Jack licked the blood off one of her fingers. “You’re out of control.”

“I’m here, aren’t I?” He asked and sucked the blood off another finger. “Kasandra, Kasandra… was it good? Did you like it? Killing him?” He stepped towards her and kissed the side of her neck again.

“Did you enjoy it?” She asked.

“I always enjoy it.” He replied. “Hurt like hell, but it was fun.”

Kas walked over to a barrel of water, washing her hands off. “You just remember who you belong to,” she said looking over her shoulder at him. “Don’t let her,”

“And you remember,” Jack said grabbing her hair and giving it a twist. Kas let out a hiss of pain and looked at him, the corner of her mouth twisting up “who YOU belong to.” He frowned suddenly, letting go and taking a step back. He blinked, his eyes looking around and Kas was looking at him with the same expression, dazed, confused, a little disoriented. “I keep,”

Kas looked down at her hands in the water and pulled them out. Why had she been washing her hands off? She couldn’t remember. The last thing she remembered was going off to look for Jack. “Let’s… get to work, shall we?” She finally said drying her hands on her pants. “We’ll need something if we’re going to get to Cardiff.”

Jack nodded in agreement, both of them deciding not to mention the occasional blackouts that they were having. A little voice in the back of their heads whispered that they should mention it to someone, but neither of them felt the urge. For some reason, as worrisome as it was, they both casually dismissed it.

Ianto/Mick/Mathias/John - Clean-up and Cooking

Ianto, Mick and Mathias pulled the last of the bodies out of the ruins and set them a blaze. Ianto had found Andrew’s remains and he added them to the fire. Jake, as much as he wanted to leave him to rot, Mick and Mathias had recovered his body as well. “It is better then he deserves.” Mick said. Mathias looked at him, “In the end, we all deserve a bit of dignity.” Ianto looked at him and smiled, Mathias had his moments when his quiet strength came through louder then anything. Ianto knew that he was angry at Jake as well, but still he found the strength to give him property burial. “I suppose.” Mick said his expressing softening.

“I hope that is the last of our friends that we have to bury.” Ianto said watching the bodies’ burn. Mathias stood there his head bowed offering them all a simple prayer. “Neither of you must be used to all this death…I’m sorry.” Mike looked at Mathias, “Don’t worry I’ve seen my share of death, unfortunately.” Mick said dusting off his hands. Mathias nodded. Ianto looked at Mathias a bit surprised at the comment then shrugged, “No, I’m used to it, its part of my job.”

Mathias’s eye’s narrowed crooking his neck he said softly, “like taking care of everyone?” Ianto nodded, “yep.”

“It’s so quiet, you don’t think that they have been able to use the weapon, do you?” Ianto said, knowing the answer, but he still wanted to hear someone say it. Mathias shock his head, “No, Archer will wait for the right time. It hasn’t been used yet.”

Ianto looked around he saw that Mick was happy to hear it as well. Ianto wanted to changed the topic, there was still so much that needed to be done, with the transport gone, we was hopping the Kas and Jack could get another one up and running, “Mathis, I need to pull something together for everyone to eat. You mentioned that some of the stores were still secure, would that include food?” Mathias smiled, “Always worrying about the others, who worries for you?” Ianto smiled, “you.” Mick couldn’t help but smile, still he tried to pretend not to hear and he focused on the fire, given them their minute. They turned and looked at the fire again; they had set the fires in an area of the castle that was more secluded and down wind from everyone else. “I wish there was more we could do.” Ianto said. Mick nodded, “So do I. Andrew deserved better then this. He was a good guy.”

“They are with God now, there is nothing more that they will need from us.” Mathias said standing there looking on. “Come the fire will take care of itself, it is secure, and nothing more will burn. I will come and check it once more time, but for now we give them their dignity. Ashes to Ashes…”

“Dust to dust.” Ianto said. Looking at Mathias who nodded, Mick crossed himself and looked at the fire one more time. Then they walked off and found a place to wash up and get the smell of death off of them. It was unpleasant work, one that Ianto knew too well, normally he liked to take a nice long hot shower after dealing with these sorts of things, but a simple rinse with cold water and a change of clothes was the best he was going to get. He was smart enough at least and changed before the started hauling bodies, so his suit was waiting for him, it was getting dirty and there was not way to clean it, but it was still better then nothing.

Mick looked at Ianto, who was carefully putting his suit back on. “You know Ianto I’m not too bad a cook, if you need the help.” Mick said buttoning up his fresh shirt. “Any and all help would be welcome Mick.” Ianto said with a smile.

The group finished cleaning up and Mathias led them to one of the stores that Archer and the Elite had left untouched, quick enough Ianto was handing Mick and Mathias several items for them to prepare. There were some, what looked like soda breads, dried meats and even some vegetables and fruits, it was better then nothing and Ianto knew that they hadn’t eaten since the night before and what they had wasn’t very much. “The kitchen was destroyed in the battle.” Mathias said watching Ianto load up. Ianto nodded, “I know, we have to see what we can come up with just out here.”

“Mathias and I can go down and get what is left down there and bring it up here, I have no interest in spending the night down there, the explosions probably did more damage then we know bout.” Mick said standing there holding some of the items that Ianto handed him.

“Agreed.” Mathias said looking at what was left in the store, such a shame all this food would go to waste.

Ianto stood up his arms filled, “I want to come back here and load up the rest of this and take it with us, no telling how long we’ll be on our own.” Mathias nodded smiling the idea that the food would not be wasted made him happy, “there are some sacks and creates that we can use.” Ianto nodded and Mathias closed the door, securing the lock.

They found an area and while Ianto built up a fire, the day was quickly vanishing and once nightfall came the castle would be dark, the generator that was working would need to be used for the computer and other equipment the Doctor needed. So the fire light would have to suffice. Mathias and Mick pulled out some of the old equipment that they could from the kitchen including some of cooking equipment and Ianto and Mick quickly got to work.

“Isn’t this cute, eye-candy and the Major, I always pictured you two in the kitchen, but I never had you cooking.” John said. “Make yourself useful John.” Mick said shooting him a look. “I’ve tried but Jack and Gwen wanted their privacy.” Ianto looked at him over his shoulder. “Bloody hell John you’re a wanker you know that.” Ianto said going back to his cooking. Mathias stood towering over John watching him. “Hello there Blondie…if you ever get tried…”

“John enough, now come here and help.” Ianto said looking at John who sighed, “Fine…fine eye-candy, what do you need me to do.” Both Mick and Ianto shared a quick look at smile. They could come up with a million things for John to do and now of them as pleasant as helping them cook.
May it be said, when the sun sets on your life, you made a difference.

The smell of burning corpses overwhelmed the smell of the small fire that they had cooking the food. it was a smell that mick was used to from Iraq. You'd have troops blown up in roadside bombs and the smell of burning flesh would hang in the air. Sickeningly sweet. There was no other smell like it in the world.

He had a passing moment to wonder if the death camps in auchwitz smelled like this. Probably. There were plenty of ovens. The image made him sick and he quickly thought of something else to take his mind off of it. He focused on the upcoming tasks that lay ahead of them. A bit problematic, but they could pull it off.

The fact that there were a bunch of alien religious freaks planning on wiping out everything on the face of the earth was not a heart-warming thought. What if they failed? Harkness would be back, and who else? The Master? The Doctor?

Mick shook his head. He'd wanted to get his thoughts to something other than auchwitz. Now he was wishing his thoughts hadn't left. He overheart Hart talking and shook his head. He muttered, "Is he always like this?" Ianto nodded. He said, "Takes some getting used to. I'm still trying."

Hart looked at them. He said, "Did you say something?" Mick said, "Yes, we've got an ideal job for you." Hart looked Mick over and Mick had to stifle an urge to punch the asshole in the mouth. Hart says, "Where are we going?"

Mick stared at him levelly. He said, "It will help us out immensly for our little cooking project." Hart frowned. He said, "alright...I'm in. What is it?" Mick reached voer and handed him a back of potatoes and a peeler. Mick said, "Set to work on those. I'm sure you'll have it well in hand."

Hart said, "Peeling potatoes? Are you shitting me?" Mick said, "We did it in the Army all the time. You saying the Army sucks?" Hart was impassive. He said, "No..." Mick said, "I did it. It gave me character." He glanced over at Ianto who was stifling his laughter. Mathias was chuckling as well.

Hart said, "alright, I'll cut the fucking potatoes." He sat down with the bag and set to work. Mick walked back over to Ianto. Ianto grinned at him and said, "Bravo, Major Mick." Mick said, "Eh, who knew how it would turn out? He could have turned me down, but I had a feeling that...."

"FUCK!"

They looked over at Hart, who was waving his bleeding finger. he sucked on it. Mick said, "Yeah, be careful, they're a little dry, so they'll be a bit hard to peel." Hart shot him a look. Mick went back to business, forcing himself not to smile.

Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny
Dani looked around the morgue for the hundredth time looking for something, anything, to help her off this table. She knew that it was impossible considering how tightly strapped down she was but it didn’t stop her from looking again, and again, and again. She was frustrated. Helplessness didn’t sit well with her, it never had. She wanted to do something helpful for the others, something productive but instead all she could do was lay there and stare at the wall. Did they even know she was awake?

“You know there’s no escape,” said a female voice. Nina, if Dani remembered the name right. “So why do you continue to look?” She heard footsteps on the steps and turned her head towards the stairs that spiraled around the morgue walls.

“What am I doing here?” She asked trying to keep her voice civil. “What do you want from me?” She watched Nina reach the floor and walk across the room over to her. She pulled a tray over and picked up a needle. “What’s that for?”

“It’s curious,” Devon said following Nina down the stairs. He was carrying a steel covered in some sort of carvings that Dani didn’t recognize.

“This?” Nina asked holding up the needle, “or that?”

“Both?” Dani asked feeling like she was on the verge of wetting herself from fear. The two of them together down here with her, it made her very nervous.

Nina shoved the needle into Dani’s arm drawing out blood. “We need a sample to make sure that things are progressing at the correct speed.”

“Process…samp… what have you done to me?” She asked suddenly pulling at the restraints. “The Doctor,”

“Is going to give us the last piece that we need.” Nina said.

“What are you talking about? HEY!” Dani snapped jerking her head around to Devon who’d just placed a metal band of some kind around her forearm. “What’s that, take this off me! Damn it! Take it,” she let out a small whimper of fright as the band grew cold, colder than ice really and slowly, very slowly, it started to spread over her skin. “What is that?” She whispered. “What have you done?”

Devon smiled at Nina who returned the look. “I wonder if the Doctor knew they had this.” He said closing the lid of the box. “Doubtful.”

“God’s will be done,” Nina said touching Dani’s cheek almost lovingly. Dani turned her head, snapping at her fingers. Nina snatched them back barely in time to avoid a nasty bite. “Well, I’m not telling you what it is now.” She pulled the iv from Dani’s arm pulling it off to the side of the room.

“We’ll need to activate soon.” Devon said tucking the box under his arm waiting for his sister.

“The primary first,” Nina said. “Then the secondary. Enough time to throw them off and ensure a clean escape. “The Doctor,”

“Is going,”

Nina turned her heads, her dark eyes almost black and Dani’s mouth snapped shut. “That’s better.” Turning to Devon she continued. “The Doctor may be on to what we’ve done. The Devil can be a sneaky one and the Lord’s work is of the utmost importance.”

Devon nodded. “I’ll prepare the transmission. The Kindred have been demanding the Master.” He frowned at Nina. “Did you tell them that we had him?”

“Better that,” Nina replied “than to admit that he escaped us and have them descend on us disrupting out work.” She capped the needle that held Dani’s blood and slipped it into her pocket. “Hope that we did our calculations right, human.” She said looking at Dani. “One mistake, and you’ll be assimilated within the hour. The band isn’t patient.”

Dani looked down at the metal on her arm seeing that it was now creeping down under the steel restraint. Good God, it was growing, and it was so… cold. She closed her eyes and let her head rest back on the table trying to ignore the sensation of the cold creeping through her body. She swore she could feel it spreading through her veins, her blood growing colder with each passing second.

She surged suddenly against the restraints, the table jiggling under her as she kept trying. Dani grit her teeth in determination and let out a sudden scream of anger and defiance as Nina and Devon left her alone once more in the morgue.

Kas/Jack - The Transport

“Just….oh give it to me…” Kas said exasperated pulling the wrench out of Jack’s hand and pushing him aside. “You know you think you know everything but you can’t even fix this simple engine, amazing you’ve lasted this long.” Kas said reaching into the engine and tightening the bolts, then reconnecting the hoses. Jack stood back watching her, bent over, he was of course looking at her ass and enjoying every minute of this. It wasn’t that he couldn’t fix it, he just, liked watching her do it. “I could have fixed it, but I like this much better.” Kas stood up glaring at him annoyed at how lacking in the help department Jack had been. She walked over to the work bench and put the wrench down and went to the cab of the transport and started the engine, it still didn’t sound 100%, but it was a lot better then the nothing they had been getting. “There. Finally.” Kas said whipping her hands off on one of the rags. She wasn’t to filthy, not that it mattered, but she did like to be clean, well or cleaner then she had been the last couple of days. They let the engine run for a couple of minutes cleaning it out. They had managed to piece most of it back together, so now all they needed to do was make a few tweaks.

“We’ll need to load up what we can and go from there.” Jack said going over and washing his hands, he looked at the barrel for a moment there was something about washing hands…then nothing. Kas joined him washing her hands off again and drying them, she looked at them for a minute, they were much cleaner, she had even managed to get the dirt and grime out from under her nails. She lifted her hair off her neck and wrapped it in a simple knot to keep it up. She wet one of the cleaner rags and put it on the back of her neck to help cool her down. She looked over the petrol drums and shrugged, there was still a lot to do, “help me loads these on, we don’t want to run out of gas on the way.” She said marching over to the first drum trying to move it, not waiting for Jack. Jack walked over and started helping her, “Is there anything you can’t do Kas?” Jack said as they pulled the drum and started to move it. Kas stopped and smiled, “I cant’ come back from the dead.”

Jack couldn’t help but grin, “It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.” Kas nodded, “I’m sure.” They moved the first one over to the transport and got it loaded, this one was larger then the original one, so they could carry more equipment. The two continued to load the transport with whatever they thought would be helpful on their trip; fuel, oil, tool, even a couple of extra full-size tires. The previous transport has been all but whipped out thanks to Archer, so they were starting from scratch.

Jack looked at Kas, “remind me when we get this all sorted to give Ianto a raise, this is a lot of work.” Jack said a little out of breath. Kas looking at him and laughed, “if your talking about a salary increase I will remind you, anything else and you’re on your own.”

“Ah you’re no fun.” Jack said giving Kas a friendly slap on the bum, which she allowed and didn’t raise a fuss about.

“When did you learn about cars?” Jack said resting against the last of the petrol cans. Kas looked around the transport for a minute then over at him a bit confused. “I’m not sure…I mean I don’t really remember.” Kas thought frowning thinking about it. She knew how to fix the transport, she had done it, well her and Jack, but when had she learned it, not growing up, they never were allowed to do things like this. She really wasn’t sure, maybe one of her brothers or one of the few men she dated, did she take a class, Kas was annoyed that she couldn’t remember, it must not have been that important. “I guess I just picked it up.” Jack nodded. Something seemed wrong to the both of them about that, but they knew it wasn’t important. They had a job to do and all these little silly things weren’t important in the least.

“So, John Hart…what about him?” Kas said looking at Jack changing the subject; feeling good for a moment; feeling better then she had felt in days. It was actually nice to just talk to Jack. Jack gave her a coy smile, “That is a complicated story.” Kas laughed, “They always are Captain. You treat him different then you treat Gwen or Ianto, why is that?” Kas said not really wanting to let the topic go, she had read the few reports about him and some of the trouble he had caused the Torchwood team. Jack crossed his arms and looked at her adjusting his stance, “What more information for your file on me Ms. Zapatero.” Kas sighed looking at him, “Look Captain, I’m just trying to make conversation and be nice. We all have to work together and I know that you and I don’t always agree, or even see eye-to-eye, but here we are, just you and me, I thought it might be nice to talk.”

Jack looked around and relaxed just a bit, “John and I worked together for a long time and we were partners. But we became different men and I had to move on. Well John didn’t. That is the long and short of it Kas, but I suppose your right I do treat him different then Gwen and Ianto and I guess it’s because I’ve been him and I know what he can be, if he wanted.” She watched Jack talk about John in a way that she had never seen him talk about anyone before, it was almost surprising to her, but she knew Jack was a complicated man. “You still love him, don’t you?” Jack looked at her a bit shocked by the questions. “I wouldn’t call it love.” Jack said, it was a stock answer and Kas knew it she raised her eyebrows and looked at him he knew she wasn’t happy with the answer and he sighed looking her right in the eyes. “Do we ever stop loving people Kas?” Her face flushed a minute, “I guess not even when we should because they’re toxic.”

Jack studied her reaction for a moment and nodded. He knew more about Kasandra then he let on, she wasn’t the only one to have files on people, a trait he respected in her. She was the top of her class all threw school her family was related to the Spanish Crown and heavily involved in politics. Talented and beautiful a given. She was engaged once to a man named Antonio Pena who Jack was surprised he couldn’t find any information on, he was a ghost, much like himself. It had taking him some doing to even get the name. Jack knew that what had happened could not have been good and so he didn’t peruse it any further, there were certain lines that you didn’t cross, even him.

Kas looked at Jack for a moment, there was a distant look in her eyes, he could tell he was thinking. “Antonio, as you know, was my fiancé and things ended badly. It was difficult as you could imagine. I tried to move on back home, but having the family I have, it wasn’t easy and after a few years I decided to come here. Start over, become a better person.” Jack nodded his head, the sky outside the car-park was getting darker, they had been working for what seemed like days. He was surprised the Gwen or Ianto hadn’t come looking for them, but everyone was busy getting ready to leave. He had to admit as well he was enjoying the conversation with Kas. “I can relate to that Kas, I really can.” Jack said thinking of his own past.

“It’s going to be getting dark we should head over and check-in with the others.” Kas said looking out at the fading day. “I had never been to this castle before now. It really is amazing.” Kas said looking around at the grounds she could visualize what it once had been like and how it was used. She suspected that is why the Preachers used it as well. The ruined castles were still in good areas that could be defended somewhat easily. Jack nodded, “come on, enough of this happy horse shit.” Kas laughed and they headed out to meet up with the others.

All - Finding Gwen

Ianto and Mick decided on a simple meat stew, bread and fresh fruit, it was the best they could come up with given the ingredients they had. They made quick work of it, the longest part was waiting for it to cook and not burn. Mathias had found some coffee which pleased Ianto because he knew that would be one of the first things Jack would be asking for. John peeling potatoes had provided more amusement for them then anything else, he had cut most of his fingers and even managed to cut is leg; Ianto still wasn’t sure how he managed that one. Finally, Mick took pity on him and let him off the hook, they had more potatoes then they needed, so Mick decided to make potato and onion pancakes, they wouldn’t taste quite like home, but he could manage. Once John was taking off potato duty they had given him another job of laying the table with Mathias and getting some of the surroundings cleaned up enough to provide them some comfort for the night.

While they were cooking Mathias had spent the time pulling things from down below and taking inventory of what was left and what they could use for their trip and the night. It wasn’t going to be as comfortable as it once had been, but it would suffice for a night or two. John finished setting the table for the group as the Doctor and Master came out of the work building, “something smells good.” The Doctor said looking at the men cooking taking off his glassed and putting them away for the time being; the wind had shifted again cleaning out the air of the burning bodies, something both Mick and Ianto were grateful for. Ianto looked at the Doctor and Master, “Alright?” The Master shrugged, “There are still some tests to run, but it’s not looking good at the moment.” The Doctor nodded, “We have a working computer so that is very helpful, these chips are more complicated then we first thought, but we’ll manage.” Ianto looked back at the stew it had thickened and would be hardy enough for them all. “Well we’re stuck until you know for sure.” Mick said looking at the two of them almost pleading then turning back to the last of his potato and onion pancakes. The Doctor saw the concern in Mick’s eyes. “I know Mick, I know.” The Doctor said, then continued, “We’ll get back to work after dinner.”

“Where are the others?” John said looking at them as they came over to the make shift kitchen. They were missing Gwen, Kara, Jack and Kas. Ianto looked around, “Jack and Kas are working on the Transport, Gwen must be helping.” Mathias nodded, “Kara is on point, making sure that we aren’t bothered by anymore of Archer’s friends, Gwen could be with her as well.” Mathias said. John looked at Ianto a bit funny, something struck him as odd about that whole thing. Jack screwing Gwen, then the three of them working on a transport, knowing Jack it was a three-way and very little work was getting done. John chose not to say anything, why upset the eye-candy.

“It does smell decent, not what I’m used to, but it will work.” The Master said with a smug look. “You can…” Mathias started to say but Ianto took his arm and looked at him cutting him off. “We might as well start eating. The others will be along.” Mick said and started dishing out the meal. He was pleased with how well things turned out, probably one of the better meals this whole trip, he thought.

“Ianto, I don’t suppose you have my coffee ready.” Jack said turning the corner with a big smile on his face. Kas walking next to him, she walked up to Mick and smiled, “smells good. I’m starved.” She said given him a kiss and wrapping her arm around him before she sat down. Ianto handed jack a cup of coffee, it was almost second nature and he hadn’t even thought about it. “There you go Sir.” Ianto said then looked around, “We’re still missing Gwen and Kara?” Kas looked at Ianto smiling at him, “We haven’t seen her, she must be with Kara.” Something wasn’t right and Ianto wasn’t the only one to feel it, in fact everyone except Jack, the Master and Kas seemed worried. “Maybe we should go look for her.” Mathias said standing up from the table.

Jack looked up from his coffee. “If I know Gwen she is scouting around the area, she and Kara are probably double and triple checking the perimeter for the night, which reminds me, we’ll need to set up guards for the night.” Jack took a sip of his coffee, “How do you managed this Ianto, you never disappoint.” Ianto shrugged looking out at the growing darkness; he responded absently, “it’s a gift Sir.” Jack nodded and took another sip then looked at the food. Kas had already started to eat, “Mick, Ianto this is great.” She said ripping a piece of bread from the loaf. She didn’t know why she wasn’t worried about Gwen, but she wasn’t. Gwen was a big girl and could take care of herself, what was there to worry about.

The only other one to start eating was the Master, who said nothing he wasn’t bothered about Gwen missing either, not that he would care is something happened to her, the only he worried about really was Danni. “I’m not comfortable with this, we need to find them.” Mick said standing up, Kas stopped eating and looked up at him, she thought this was ridiculous. Ianto and Mathias joined him at once. John looked at the Doctor and they both glanced at Jack who didn’t seem worried in the slightest. There was a rustling in the bushes not to far off, and then they heard “I need a hand!” They heard Kara's voice yell. Everyone looked around and saw Kara dragging a body towards them. Mick, Ianto and Mathias were the first to reach her, “Oh God, its Gwen.” Ianto said helping pick her up.

“What happened?” Mick said looking at Kara, “I’m not sure. I smelled the food and started coming in from my rounds, and I just found her.” Mick and Ianto hoisted Gwen up and Mathias helped Kara over to the bench so she could catch her breath.

“Bloody Hell.” Kas said seeing the state that Gwen was in, “What happened to her?”

The Master looked at her, “This wasn’t the Elite or the Kindred, that’s for sure.” He said noticing the wounds, and the body, the Kindred wouldn’t have been that kind to what was left of her and the Elite would have taken her with them.

Jack started looking at her battered and bruised body, “Then who, who did this? Mathias, are there others around here that could do this?” Mathias looked at Gwen then looked at Jack. “I’m not sure, maybe, but they wouldn’t have gotten here without us knowing and they wouldn’t have stopped with only one. No, nothing around here would have just attacked one of us.”

The Doctor bent down and was fussing over Gwen checking her wounds. “What do you need Doctor.” Ianto said worried, he knew something was wrong, but even if they looked for her, when they first sat down it wouldn’t have mattered she was out for while this happened hours ago. “Let’s get her into the work-room, quickly.” Ianto, Mick and Mathias carefully picked her up and headed to the work room, the dinner temporarily forgotten.

Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny
“We spent five years together,” Jack said as they walked, in the darkness together. “When I was with the Time Agency, we were partners. No one, no one else could control him.” He stopped walking and shoved his hands into his pockets. “I was a different man back then, Kas.”

“I’m sure,” Kas replied. “You want to take a walk around the castle? Get some privacy?”

Jack thought for a moment and then nodded. “Sure,” he said and the two of them headed away from the fire to take a walk around the exterior of the castle. “John and I, it’s complicated.” He shook his head. “It’s not easy to see him. He brings back, he reminds me of a lot of things that I’d rather forget.”

“Love’s usually complicated,” Kas said.

Jack nodded. “And painful,” he kicked a rock thoughtfully watching it skitter through the grass. “That’s the hardest part, you know? About not aging, not dying… you watch everyone you live grow old and die around you and,” he shook his head. “Some people would think that it’s a blessing, but it’s not.” He stopped walking and stared off at the horizon for a moment. Kas waited for him to speak again, not moving. “I’m tiered Kas, some days… some days I’m just really tiered.”

“Do you want to tell me about John?” Kas asked slipping her arm into Jack’s as a cool breeze swept through the air.

Jack shrugged. “We got stuck in a time loop, five years of just the two of us. It was a long five years, good years, but long in the end. When we got back,” he shook his head. “It just didn’t work anymore.”

“Why not?” She asked.

Jack shrugged again. “I… It’s complicated. Matthew, it’s complicated. John was never, comfortable of our relationship. He was always jealous of him and when we got back, I suppose we just self destructed. That and I lost three years.”

“What?”

“I lost three years.” He repeated. “Still don’t know what happened. I went to bed one night 32 and woke up 35, three years gone. When I asked my superiors about it, all they said was that it wasn’t anything to worry about. I kept pushing but,” he shook his head. “They wouldn’t tell me anything. Not that they were surprised, so I knew they had something to do with it. Worked for them for the better part of a decade and they stole three years from me.” He just kept speaking, not really thinking, just talking. It felt good to talk really. He’d never really thought about it, he’d always kept it all inside and locked away but this… “I stole a Chula warship and defected. Spent the next few years as a conman until I met the Doctor and Rose.”

“What happened between you and John?” Kas asked leaning against him as they walked.

“We’d ended before that. He went into rehab and made me a solo operative. That was a few months before the gap. I never… I didn’t see him again for a long time. Not until the last year or so.” He thought for a moment. “I guess I still love him, I mean…”

“I don’t know if you can ever really fall out of love with someone,” Kas said think of Antonio.

“He’s not good for me,” Jack eventually said. “Just like I’m not good for Ianto, albeit in different ways.”

“And Ianto?” Kas asked.

“Ianto,” Jack said slowly. “Ianto and I, I don’t know. It’s,”

“Complicated,” Kas said. “I know.” She rubbed Jack’s arm gently. “You loved John how Ianto loves you.”

“No,” he said with a shake of his head. “That’s not it. Maybe… I mean, where I’m from, that’s not really an issue. Fidelity isn’t, the 51st century is a different place Kas, a different time and after 5 years alone with John,” he let out a long breath. “Maybe that’s it, maybe that’s why I have to just, let go of him… because I’m John now, and he’s me.”

“You’re still a good man, Jack.” Kas said. “Impossibly infuriating, stubborn and… well you drive me nuts, but I can’t deny that you’re a good person at heart. Sometimes you just, don’t come off well.” She gave his arm a squeeze.

Jack stopped walking and leaned against the side of the castle. “It’s just, everyone… everyone I care about leaves me. They all grow old. They all die. I’m,”

“You’re lonely.” Kas said sliding up next to him. “But Gwen won’t solve it. She’s not the cure. She’s a married,”

“There is no cure, Kas.” He said letting out another sigh and folding his arms over his chest. “I can’t die, I barely age, I… the Doctor can’t fix me. I’m an abnormality. I’m not supposed to be, a fixed point in time and space, that’s what he called me. That’s what the Master called me. I’m the way I am because Rose couldn’t control the time vortex. The Daleks killed me. She brought me back, and now I can’t die.” He slid down into the grass. “Gwen… Ianto… they’ll die… it doesn’t matter how much I love them and Gwen,” he looked in the direction of where the Doctor was taking care of her. “I’ve gotten so many people killed Kas. I can’t have her blood on my hands, I can’t.”

“Jack,” Kas said squatting down next to him. “What happened to Gwen isn’t your fault.”

“If I hadn’t come into her life,”

“Then she’d still be a cop,” Kas said “and she’d still be putting her life on the line to save others. That’s just, the way that she is.” She found herself reaching out and draping her arm over Jack’s shoulders, feeling him shaking. She was amazed really, at the level of vulnerability that he was showing, how open he was being. “We’ll set things right, Jack. You know that.”

“I hope so,” he said looking at her with an expression of obvious fear. “Because I can’t be alone forever.”
