Kas/Ianto/Mick - Rough Night Kas sat rubbing her head it was pounding, every part of her was sore and tired, even her eyes were sore, the morning light causing her to blink several times even when she looked out over the castle grounds. She massaged the back of her neck as she ate some of her sliced apple. She felt exhausted like she hadn’t slept, when in fact she had. She remembered rolling over and waking up next to Mick feeling his strong arms and his back. Still she felt like hell. “Coffee?” Ianto said handing her a cup of coffee. Kas smiled as she looked up at him having to squint to block out some of the morning light and took the coffee. She took a deep sip, it tasted like home, how Ianto did it was still impossible for her to understand, but he managed. “You don’t look so good, are you ok?” Ianto said sitting down across from her. Kas nodded, “I’m fine, thank you. I’m just tired; I must not have slept very well last night.” Ianto took a sip of his own coffee, “I don’t think any of us did. With Gwen and that attack, I’m not surprised.” Ianto watched her, Jack had something similar to him when he went to check on him, it wasn’t unusually for Jack to not sleep, but this morning was different, he looked exhausted, very much like Kas did now, it was possible that there was an alien virus that they were catching, something like a flu. Ianto quickly disregarded it though and chalked it up to a bad nights sleep, these things happened even in the best of situations. Kas looked at him sitting there smiling at her, she could tell he was concerned he worried about them all, still he looked like a million bucks, he probably woke up nice and clean and perky, right now she hated perky. When she woke up she felt and looked dirty and scruffy, she was glad when Mathias and brought her a nice warm bucket of water to at least clean up in, it wasn’t shower but it was better then nothing. “Well you at least look human.” Kas said trying to smile. She took another sip of the coffee; it was starting to make her feel a bit better. Ianto smiled, “trust me Kas, you look completely human, just tired.” Kas shrugged and took another sip of coffee then looked at him, how easy it would be to hit him over the head with the mug and slick his throat. She should have done that to Gwen…the bitch skank. The beating wasn’t enough; she was going to live, which was a disappointment still that could be fixed. Kas smiled and look another sip of the coffee, lost in her own thoughts…what were they. She couldn’t remember, she really must be tired. “How is Gwen doing?” Kas asked looking in the direction of the work room where the Doctor had taken her. Ianto followed her eyes, “Better. I just can’t believe that happened to her, I mean who would have done it and why? Everyone here was accounted for, it had to be maybe a lone Elite or something.” Kas could hear the worry and concern in his voice it was sweet and part of his charm, which was one of the many reasons she liked him. “Well whoever it was is long gone.” Kas said still looking at the work room, studying it. Kas didn’t realize that there was anyone around her until Mick sat down heavily next to Kas. “I think we just about have everything loaded up, we’re not going to be able to fit everything that we want to take, but we’ll manage. We have the most important items loaded.” Kas looked at Mick and smiled, it was a tired distant smile, “What are we leaving behind?” She said resting against him shoulder, she really needed a nap. Mick sighed, picking up a slice of the apple that Kas was eating. “One of the drums of fuel and some of the extra food, tools and equipment, we want to make sure we’re able to take all the weapons.” Mick said talking with apple in his mouth, not really thinking, just reporting. “Is that wise, shouldn’t we try to take it all, just in case?” Ianto said taking another sip of his coffee looking between Mick and Kas. Mick shrugged running a freshly cleaned hand through his hair, “We could, but then we will use more fuel and have a heavier load, we need to consider speed and mobility.” Kas nodded, “As long as most of the equipment goes we should be fine.” Mick felt her resting heavily on him, “Hey, how ya doing?” Mick said looking at her, seeing how tired she looked. “Just didn’t sleep well.” Kas said taking another sip of her coffee. “Well that makes two of you. Jack was saying the same thing; I guess he isn’t used to sleeping alone.” Mick quipped. Ianto’s face blushed looking at the two of them. Mick looked at him in sudden panic, “Oh sorry, I mean…shit.” Mick said shaking his head. Ianto smiled, “It’s ok Mick, I knew what you meant. I should go and check on the transport and double check the supplies, after all that is part of what I’m supposed to do, you two relax.” He said standing up dusting off his suit pants and walking off. “I didn’t mean…” Mick said looking at Kas talking in a whisper so only she could her. Kas drank the last of her coffee, “Ianto isn’t like that Mick, if he said he understood then that is the end of it. He’s tougher then people think, he has proven that time and time again.” Mick nodded still a bit annoyed at himself for his slipup, “It’s just I like the guy and I wasn’t thinking and well you know Jack.” Kas nodded, “I think I’m beginning to.” She sighed and faced Mick then continued, “Mick he’s lonely so he jumps from encounter to encounter, so he can cope.” Mick looked at her seeing some kind of sparkle or something there, he wasn’t sure what it was, “Well just as long as one of those encounters isn’t with you….” “…or you.” Kas said interrupting Mick giving him a little shove. “I’ve seen how he and John look at you. You better not get any ideas. I can be very jealous.” Kas said partially joking partially serious. Mick laughed, “I think you’re very safe there. 51st Century or not I’m not interested in either of them. There is only one person around here who’s caught my eye.” Mick said giving Kas a squeeze and kiss. “That Major, was a very good answer.” Kas said draping her arms around his neck and giving him a passionate kiss which he eagerly returned. |
