Willow/Adam/Paul/Cat - Reunited and It Feels So Good Willow rubbed the back of her neck, taking the last turn into Phoenix and paused under a street lamp, pulling out a notebook that she had stashed between the seats. Flipping it open her eyes skimmed the itinerary that she’d copied in it along with locations, dates and times. Well if they were still on schedule they’d be having their last concert tonight in Phoenix and that meant that the bus would be parked at the Events Center. Which would be… She turned the wheel to the left and headed down the street slowly, the street lights flickering above her giving the empty streets and eerie glow. The streets should be buzzing with activity, teens laughing and heading towards the even center, cars lined up on the streets. There should be… she’d been to countless concerts with Adam and this… this wasn’t right. Something was wrong. She’d known that since the pileup on the freeway. Accidents like that didn’t happen without a mass of medical attention and there had been nothing. She’d driven by countless cars, Lex sleeping quietly beside her. She’d been tempted to turn on the radio and listen to the news but she hadn’t for a few reasons, one in case Lex woke back up and two, things were already eerie enough. Whatever was going on, Adam would fill her in. Right now she wanted all her attention focused on driving. There was the unmistakable sound of gunshots in the distance and she looked down at her hands to see that her knuckles were white from grabbing the steering wheel so tightly. Willow forced one of her hands off the wheel and she rubbed the back of her neck letting out a long breath. Finally, finally the Event Center was in sight and she stopped, looking at the tour bus sitting in the parking lot. Where was everyone? She turned her wrist, checking out the date on her watch. Yeah, there was a show tonight… so where the hell were the fans? Where the hell were the police and the… and everything? For some reason at that moment, she didn’t want to go to the bus. She just wanted to take Lex somewhere else, somewhere away from civilization… but she couldn’t, she needed Adam… and Callie was with him and there was no way that she could ever go anywhere without them. Resolute in her decision she drove down the final street and turned into the parking lot, driving across the blacktop towards the bus. Almost as soon as her lights hit the side of the bus the door whipped open and Adam seemed to materialize out of the doorway. He stood there for a moment, unsure who it was and Willow parked the Jeep, opening the door and climbing out. Seconds later his arms wrapped around her crushing him against her. “Oh God,” he whispered, pressing his face into her neck. She was surprised to find him shaking. “I was so scared I was wrong.” “Hey baby,” she said hugging him back. “I missed you.” Willow tried to pull away from him to give him a kiss but he only held her tighter, making it hard for her to breathe. “Adam? What’s wrong?” She asked, starting to get scared. This wasn’t like him at all. “Adam? You’re scaring me.” “You didn’t hear?” He asked, pulling away, his hands on her face, tears in his eyes. “Oh God, Callie!” She gasped making a break for the bus. “No, no… Callie’s fine.” Adam said grabbing her wrist. “Obama, he…” “He what? He’s dead?” She asked with a frown. “What’s going on? Adam,” “Willow!” Paul said leaping from the bus and running over to her, shoving Adam out of the way and hugging her tightly. “We didn’t know if you’d make it.” “Good to see you too,” she said hugging Paul in return, patting his back. “Now will someone please tell me what’s going on?!?” She pushed him away. “I know some weird shit’s been going on… there was this huge pileup outside of town and no medical rescue, the streets are empty and you’re not onstage like you should be.” “We’re going to die.” Paul said. “We’re not going to die,” Willow replied with a shake of her head. “What has he been taking,” she asked looking at Adam, her face falling as she could see the seriousness there. “Adam?” She asked, finding her breath failing her. “There’s an asteroid,” Adam said. “Obama announced it tonight. It’s going to impact with Earth by this time tomorrow.” “No,” she said shaking her head. “No I’m sorry, this isn’t funny,” the smile dropped off her face. “This isn’t funny at all Adam. I don’t know what you’ve been smoking while I’ve been gone,” she said walking around to the passanger side of the Jeep, opening the door and unbuckling Lex, pulling him into her arms. He let out a sleepy moan but didn’t wake up. Her voice dropped to a whisper “but this seriously isn’t funny.” Her eyes locked with Adam, her angry and his… looking into his eyes she could see it. She could see that this wasn’t some cruel practical joke. This wasn’t some drug induced fantasy. Adam never did drugs, well maybe a little pot from time to time, but never around the kids and he’d had Callie. He wouldn’t have touched it. The worst he would have done is drunk to much a few nights leaving the baby with Maria. She found her legs weak and she staggered forward, the strength of her arms failing and Adam jumped forward, grabbing Lex from her arms and using his free hand to steady her. “Adam… this is… no, no, no, no…. this doesn’t happen. This is real life, this isn’t a movie. This doesn’t…” Willow started to sit down in the parking lot and Adam kept her up, pulling her towards the bus. “You can sit down inside,” he said. “We need to get moving to one of the safety centers. We’ll fill you in on the way.” She pressed her back against the side of the bus and let out a deep breath. “Go put Lex in bed, I need to get some stuff from the Jeep. We might… we might need some of it.” “I’ll help,” Paul said stepping forward. “Ditto that,” Cat replied getting out of the bus. “It’ll go faster with more people.” “Okay,” Adam said touching Willow’s arm. “Just hurry, okay?” She nodded and pulled the keys out of her pocket again, walking over to the rear of the Jeep and opening it. There’d be no knowing what they would need. She didn’t know the details of what was happening, and she didn’t want to believe it, but Adam wouldn’t lie to her. Willow thought of her parents in Canada on the commune wondering if they knew. Probably not, they didn’t have a television and the rarely listened to the radio. It was probably best that way, she thought pulling her climbing pack out and shoving it into Paul’s arms. God, why had she had to come back? If she hadn’t decided to leave then this asteroid thing would have hit and she wouldn’t have had a day to think about it. No, no, it was better this way, she told herself pulling out her rope bags and passing them to Cat. “Rope?” He asked. “There’s got to be more important,” “The end of the world,” Willow said looking at him. “Who knows what we’ll need.” “Fair enough,” Cat replied heading towards the bus. Within minutes they’d all formed a line to move the contents of the Jeep to the bus. Willow took everything, her climbing harness, Lex’s, the two spares that she had, her climbing gear, the three first aid kits that she’d packed, the dried food, tents, bottled water, portable stove, several gallons of gas that she had tanked up, her waterproof lighter as well as the flint and stone that she always took, just in case, anything and everything that was in back of the Jeep she took. It took about ten minutes in total to unpack the Jeep and Adam reappeared, guiding her into the bus, the engine roaring to life. “There was a camping store,” Willow said, sitting down on the sofa, taking the beer that Paul offered her with shaking hands. “About a mile down the road.” “We can’t stop,” Paul said. “We need to get moving.” “We need to,” Willow replied looking at him. “We might not have the bus after tomorrow,” she looked at Adam. “We need to be ready… for anything… for the impossible because there’s no knowing what’ll happen when that fucker hits.” She set down the beer and grabbed a pad of paper that Adam had been writing on earlier and tore off the lyrics he’d scribbled down, handing them to him. “Tents, climbing gear, rope, water, harnesses, sturdy shoes for everyone,” she licked her lips thoughtfully. “They might have a few canoes we can strap to the top of the bus, in case we come across any bodies of water that form that we need to cross,” Paul began laughing and Adam slugged him in the arm. “Dude, shut up. This is serious.” “We can get rid of the equipment in the trailer and pack in some bikes, with carriers for the kids, archery equipment both for food and self protection, unless someone has a gun but even then it’d be a good idea. Um, what else… fishing supplies, nets… sleeping bags, they might have guns there come to think of it in hunting… knives, flashlights, lanterns, portable grills with gas tanks, cooking equipment, shovels, pick axes, all that stuff… and get everyone travel packs.” “So in other words, the entire store,” Cat said as the bus began to roll forward, the driver eager to get out of there. “I’ll tell the driver.” He stood up and walked towards the front of the bus. “Well, it’s an asteroid you said, right?” Willow asked, finishing her list and setting it down, picking up the beer and drinking half of it in one go. “Yeah,” Adam replied. “Well, it’ll hit us hard, there’s no knowing what effect it could have on the surface of the earth. We have to be ready for anything.” She took another drink. “Jesus… fuck… Adam,” the beer dropped from between her fingers and she let him pull her into his lap, and she sobbed on his shoulder feeling sick. Why had the gods been so cruel to allow them to have children… and then allow this to happen? Willow rested her chin on his shoulder, her eyes looking outside the bus as it slowly began to roll out of the parking lot heading in the direction of the store and she sighed. Whatever was coming, whatever happened… as long as there was breath in her body she’d fight for her family, no matter the cost, she would fight. “I love you,” she whispered. “I love you too,” Adam whispered back, kissing the side of her neck and breathing in her scent. “At least we’re together again, that’s what’s important.” |

Zeke/Ruben - Spotty Memories Zeke licked his lips as he walked out of the bathroom, tasting the residual taste of toothpaste. Shanna stood on the doggy steps leading up onto the bed and looked at him, tail wagging before climbing the last step and curling up with her brothers on the end of the bed. He turned back, grabbing the pill on the counter and swallowing it with a quick handful of water from the faucet. Contrary to what Amanda had told him, laughing as he’d bought the drugs, that breathing was in fact not overrated. He re-tied the bottoms of his pajamas debating putting on the top on as well but decided against it. There was no knowing if/when the power would turn off and it was summer after all. He pulled back the sheet and climbed into the right side of the bed, picking up the remote and turning the television on. The screen began to light up and he sighed, turning it off and tossing the remote back onto the night stand table. He didn’t feel like watching television, and even if he did he was sure only the major channels would be on, and then it would only be repeats of the camps that were being set up in those ten cities. It was all so depressing. Zeke’s head turned as he heard the other bathroom door open and the light turned off, seconds later Ruben walked into the bedroom dressed in pajama bottoms as well. God… he looked good, Zeke thought to himself. There was a part of him that couldn’t help but wonder if maybe they should share the night together, enjoy each other’s company and bodies. No, he thought, that wouldn’t be right. Such a gross carnal act… besides, he really didn’t know how to broach the subject. Had he mentioned it? He couldn’t remember, so much had happened. He was pretty sure he had thrown that out there and clearly Ruben didn’t have an issue with it since they were sharing the same bed for the night, but he couldn’t remember if Ruben had said. Dating wasn’t exactly Zeke’s forte. “So I was thinking,” Ruben said taking the sheet on the other side of the bed looking rather sheepish “you have all these non perishables, fruits, veggies, peanut butter, nuts… that kind of thing, but no meat. I mean, what about protein?” “Peanut butter has tons of protein,” Zeke replied leaning back against the headboard. “Yeah but I mean, I know you got what you did because it won’t spoil, but meat,” “I don’t eat meat,” Zeke replied looking at him with a small frown. “But I,” “I thought I mentioned it when we got into the Smurf-mobile,” he replied with a shrug. “I’m vegan, I don’t eat anything with animal product in it.” “Shit,” Ruben said shaking his head and sliding under the covers. “I’m sorry, I forgot.” “It’s okay,” Zeke replied. “It’s been a… stressful day. Lots of stuff going on.” “Yeah,” Ruben said leaning back on the headboard as well. “There aren’t a lot of people like you in the world Zeke. I just,” he stopped as Hoppus removed himself from the puppy pile and snuggled up between the two men. He was quickly joined by DeLonge while Barker and Shanna remained where they were. “I wanted to thank you again for putting me up tonight, letting me, unpack and…” “My home is your home,” Zeke replied with a smile. “Do unto others.” Ruben smiled. “Catholic?” “Very,” he said chuckling. “I’m the youngest of seven. You?” “What about your family? You haven’t tried to contact them at all. Did they… ostracize you because your gay?” Zeke shook his head. “No, that’s not it.” He replied. “I just, I know they love me and they know I love them… and we’ll all meet together in Heaven when our time comes.” He laughed softly and ran his fingers through his hair. “I know it seems stupid but, there’s a lot of other people out there, people like you, trying to reach their families… there’s enough stress on the phone systems. I don’t want to,” “But you should try,” Ruben said. “I mean, it’s your family and Ankeny,” “God willing,” he replied “we’ll find each other again after all of this. What?” He asked, looking at Ruben. “Nothing,” he said. “It’s just… your faith, it’s… if we survive this I’m going to nominate you to be the next Pope.” The two men laughed and fell silent for a few minutes, the sounds of horns in the distance. “You tired?” He finally asked. Zeke shook his head. “Not at all. Somehow… somehow sleep seems wrong. I mean with so little time left,” “I know what you mean.” Ruben replied. “I feel the same way.” He looked at Zeke’s hand resting on the bed on DeLong’s hip, fingers moving slightly on the soft fur. He wanted to hold his hand, tell him everything, kiss him, love him…. And what he didn’t know was that Zeke wanted the same thing. Instead Zeke spoke. “You like Risk? I’ve got some board games in the downstairs closet and I can make us some couscous and tea.” Ruben smiled and nodded. “That’d be awesome,” he said with an honest smile. “Fantastic really.” “Good,” Zeke said getting up and pulling on a gray t-shirt that was draped over a chair. “I love cooking, always have. My ex… well let’s just avoid that subject. We didn’t end on the best of terms.” |

They hadn't been on the road for long before the military troops they were with pulled to a halt. They were just hitting the city of San Bernadino, apparently on route to their destination in Salt Lake City. Sam's hand involuntarily dropped to his waist, seeking comfort almost from the gun in the holster in his waistband. Suddenly every horror movie he'd ever watched where the military were evil flooded his head. This was how it was. They were going to execute himself, and Alex and Gareth and take Roza and Domenica who knew where. They'd been stupid, completely stupid.... Fresh-faced Lt. Johnson rapped on their window. Domenica rolled the window down and Johnson said, "We've got to fuel up some of our vehicles. We're going to do it at the Phillips up the way. If you'll just wait here for us, we'll be on our way shortly." Sam's mind was wandering. He'd done some work in the San Berdoo area. A contracting job at a business not far from here. He'd gotten a hotel close by and had stared at the shops as he drove. For some reason, he remembered one, thinking that he should go in there and buy Adam and he some fishing poles. it had been one of the few moments he could remember that he wasn't blaming Adam for his wife's death. What in the name of all that was holy had that.... Big 5 Sporting goods. That was it. It was probably 6 blocks East. Sam Peeked over his shoulder at the various Items stacked in the back of the SUV. He looked particularly at the comforters and the bottles of water. They were acceptable, but wouldn't they be better off with Sleeping bags? Camp stoves? And they had a grand total of one gun that would be absolutely no use as a hunting weapon unless they could convince their target to stand still while they shot it or take the gun and shoot itself in the head. There might be bows and arrows, and knives. Sam shook his head at himself. Leave it to the end of the world to suddenly spring him into action like the hunting nut that O'Quinn guy played on "LOST" (Sam had given the show two seasons, before he'd decided it was better for him to just stay lost) nevertheless, if it really hit the fan, he was the only one with a gun, and 6 bullets wasn't going to do them a pound of good. As Johnson and Domenica were talking, Sam leaned forward and said, "Soldier?" Johnson said, "Sir?" Sam said, "Do you mind if we pop up the way here? My Arthritis is giving me a bother and I did some work at a company here. There's a pharmacy i remember that was about 4 blocks from here. Do you mind?" Johnson was looking at a man who was apparently a C.O. Johnson said, "Well, the Captain really doesn't want us getting seperated." Sam said, 'I understand that, Lieutenant, But we're not going on the run, merely picking up something. We aren't going to go rob a bank or something, my good man." Domenica was looking at him in the rearview mirror, apparently trying to decide what he was up to. She'd gotten to know him very well in a short time, and she seemed to trust him. She apparently decided to let him play out whatever he was doing, because she went back to looking out the windshield. Sam said, "Come on, you know how old people are. We're stubborn. And really, we're going to eventually part ways. We're on our way to Salt Lake." Johnson said, "Yeah, about that, the Captain says he thinks we should stick together. There's a rescue station that he wants you to come to." Sam said, "But We've got a perfect little getaway. And really, the rescue stations are only suggested places for us to go. It's not mandatory that we go there if we've got another location sorted out.......Is it?" Sam let the question hang in the air. The atmosphere in the car had gotten considerably tense. Johnson said, "Gimme a minute, I'll go talk to the Captain." Johnson jogged over. domenica said, "What's up?" Sam said, "I'm not sure. Probably nothing, but....Frankly the tone of this has got me a little restless. Humor the old, would you?" Alex said, "We're humoring. What's up?" Sam said, "Well...we joined up with these soldiers voluntarily. We told them in advance that we were headed to Salt Lake. Now all of the sudden, we're being semi-ordered to accompany them to the rescue station. It makes me uneasy. Being old and alone, it gives you a lot of spare time. Seems like in 99 percent of disaster movies, the military turns out to be real assholes." Alex said, "They weren't in "Independence Day". Sam sid, "No, they weren't. But those were aliens. Here, we're fighting ourselves." Gareth said, "Still, it's a military operation. These people are trained. Movies are fiction. This is reality." Sam said, "You may be right. I may just be reading more into this than is necessary. But there are two things to keep in mind." Roza said, "What would those be? Trust no one?" Sam smiled at her and said, "No. A good thought, but not quite. Number one, those soldiers out there are under orders from a government who deciided that a certain select number of us are worthy of surviving and the rest of us can go piss up a rope. I may be a simple electrician, but my life is my life, just as your lives are yours. I may not know quantum physics, but I don't think I'm any more or less important than anyone else." there was a short silence. Roza said, "What's the second thing?" Sam said, "Martial law. These men have other orders to maintain order." Gareth said, "So you're thinking...?" Alex said, "That if we do anything that they seem inappropriate, they've got free reign to execute us on the spot. I've got to agree with Sam on this one. It's not exactly a warm, fuzzy feeling." Sam said, "No, it isn't but again, other than this little "Misunderstanding" these men have done nothing threatening. I could be extremely off base on this." Domenica smiled and said, "But you've remained thinking ahead. I certainly think we should be prepared to ditch these people if we need to. I'm starting to regret agreeing to follow them in the first place." Sam said, "it seemed like a good idea at the time, but suddenly, they're starting to act funny. We'll just have to see." Johnson was jogging back to them. He said, "It's gonna take us about 45 minutes to refuel. The powers out, so we're siphoning from the tank. The Captain has cleared you for your trip, but we leave in 45 minutes. We'll send some...." Sam said, 'That won't be necessary. I like shopping alone. We'll see you in 45 minutes or less." Domenica rolled up the window and they pulled away. Johnson stared after them. Domenica said, "Where are we really going?" Sam said, "Five blocks up. There's a sporting goods store. i remember it from a job I had here a while back. They'll have guns and camping equipment. Might as well raid it." In short time, Domenica was pulling the SUV in front of the store. The lights were out and it seemed deserted. Alex stepped out of the car with his cricket bat and broke the glass in the door. Sam walked over and pulled the handle. It was unlocked. he looked at Adam who gave him a sheepish smile. They walked in and started raiding. Sam headed for the hunting department, checking the limited stock of Big 5's gun selection. Most of the rifles were .22s, but it was better than nothing. They also had a wide selection of Mossberg 12-gauge shotguns. Sam took bnches to the door. He was accompanied by Gareth, who was helping haul. Sam said, "I thought the english were supposed to be non-violent?" Gareth smiled and said, "It's a different game when we're in yank country." they added boxes of bullets and shells to the pile. Sam added bows and arrows to the mix, just in case. Then he raided the clothing areas, taking some athletic clothes in his size, underwear and socks (Endorsed by PHIL MICKELSON!) and they stockpiled other goodies, including sleeping bags and tents. Sam looked at Roza and said, "admit it. This is more fun than disneyland." Roza said, "It may be. it may be." Sam said, "Well, we've got it. Now how do we haul it?" Domenica looked at a small pull-behind trailer on display in the center of the store. She turned to the group and looked at them with a diabolical smile on her face. ****************************** They hooked the trailer to the bumper hitch and chained it for extra security. In the distance, they could her shouting and gunfire. Leave it to the end of the world to really bring out the best in people. As they were passing by a drugstore on the way back, Sam had Domenica stop by a pharmacy. He said, "Plausible deniability." He stepped out of the car. This time, the door was locked. He kicked the glass in with his foot and walked behind the counter. He filled two bags with medicines that they never would be able to get from any hotel and several bottles of the first arthritis medicine he could find. If for some reason, he was right, it would then come as a surprise that the old man with arthritis was the one packing concealed heat. Sam got back into the car and they headed back towards the soldiers, for now. While they weren't sure they could trust them, having military support until they got to close to where they were going was still more viable than going alone. Johnson saw them and headed over. He saw the trailer behind the car and looked at them questioningly. sam held up the arthritis pills obviously, any more blunt and he'd have to wave them in johnson's face. He put a pill in his mouth and swallowed it with water. Domenica said, "Isn't that great? Someone left the trailer in the street. it has caming equipment and all kinds of stuff." Alex said, "Yeah, we were really lucky." Roza said, "i wish the people that loaded it had been there to thank personally.' Johnson's look said he bought none of it. He lifted a heavy gas can and said, "Here, this is compliments of the Captain. He siphoned it himself." Sam got out and, making a realistic show of arthritic hands, hauled the can to the back. Domenica got out and helped him with it. Sam unscrewed the cap and sniffed it. He gave Domenica a grave look and she sniffed it as well. She said, "That's..." Sam said, "Kerosene." Won't cause a fire, but if we put that in the gas tank, I'm fairly certain the car will quit running and we'll be forced to bum a ride." Domenica said, "Could have been an honest mistake." Sam said, "Could have been." Their looks to each other said that this was no honest mistake. Sam said, "We need to be very careful. Maybe it's just the Captain and not all of them. Or maybe there's a one in a thousand chance that it was a mistake." Domenica said, "But until we know for sure, we start the watching and plotting game." Sam said, "Exactly." Domenica said, "What was that pill you took a little while ago? probably not a good idea to be drugging yourself." Sam looked around and said, "Keep a secret?" Domenica nodded. Sam whispered, "I was just going to swallow an aspirin. I think i took Viagra by mistake." Domenica was unable to control the gale of laughter that poured out of her mouth. |

Adam—Willow Adam couldn’t stop holding and kissing his wife and kids. He was so thankful that they were all ok. And at least the bus was moving again, toward the sporting goods store Willow had seen. She was right; they needed supplies for pretty much any situation. The question was, could their bus hold it all? Adam supposed they’d find out. “God, I’m so glad you made it, Willow, I was so worried,” Adam said, probably for the millionth time. Willow smiled. It wasn’t like Adam to be this clingy, but under the circumstances it was understandable. She didn’t mind. She supposed if the situations were reversed and she’d been waiting for him to show up, she’d be like that, too. “I know, baby,” she said, stroking his face. “I’m here, so stop worrying, ok?” Adam nodded and smirked. “I’m an idiot, I know.” “You’re not an idiot, Adam,” Willow laughed. “I think under the circumstances it’s perfectly normal behavior.” “Hippy,” he teased. “Miscreant!” They shared a laugh and Adam kissed her for the umpteenth time since she arrived. “Remind me to stock up on lip balm when we get to the sporting goods store,” she joked. (ooc: cyd, busy today but wanted to get started. if you post again before i finish this, that's cool. dunno when i'll have a chance to get back to it) |

Rubén and Zeke – Dinner and a Show “Couscous” Rubén said to himself as he watched Zeke walk out of the bedroom, he had an amazing ass, hell everything about him was amazing he felt the stirring in his crotch but did his best to ignore it. Zeke was quickly followed by four very cute and bouncy puppies, they must not be tired either Rubén thought as he pulled the blanket off him and stood up looking around the room for a minute and then he walked to the closet and pulled one of his t-shirts, and put it on. He thought about Zeke again and sighed seeing the lump in the front of his pajamas stir again. With a huff he closed the door and walked off downstairs where he could hear pots and pans already going in the kitchen. He had to think, had he had couscous before? If so did he even like it and really did it matter at this point, if Zeke was cooking it, he would eat it and enjoy it. Rubén walked in seeing Zeke working quickly pulling things from the refrigerator, There was already a kettle on the stove for the tea. Rubén wasn’t much of a cook, well nothing fancy anyway, he was a basic kind of guy, he ate healthy a lot of fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables everything in moderation, “can I help?” Rubén asked as Zeke turned and looked at him, “Do you cook?” Rubén laughed, “what is your definition of cooking, if stir fry, salad and Mexican food counts then yes.” Zeke smiled at him, “why don’t you set-up the game. I think I got this.” Rubén nodded, “ok. Entry closet right?” He asked and Zeke nodded smiling at him, Rubén liked when Zeke looked at him, his face was very inviting and pleasant, “yep. Right through there.” Zeke pointed. Rubén walked to the closet opening the door and looking up seeing the games; Monopoly, Clue, Sorry, Risk and others were stacked up. Rubén grabbed the one that said Risk and pulled it out. He saw a lot of camera equipment in here as well, Zeke really was into photography he may have had three or four different cameras from the looks of it. “You really take great pictures Zeke’s the ones at the hotel were inspiring.” Rubén called out closing the door and moving into the dinning room, since the kitchen was now a puppy kennel. “Thank you.” Zeke said from the kitchen, “I really enjoy it, it makes you see the world in a whole different way.” Rubén laughed, “Well it shows, your work is incredible at least from what I’ve seen.” Rubén was going to add that if things worked out, somehow, that he could use a good freelance photographer back home. Rubén sighed, he didn’t want to think about that, just focus on right now and enjoy the time you have. Zeke seemed much more ‘Zen’ about the whole thing, it help to keep him calm as well he found. “Maybe I can take your picture sometime?” Zeke said moving over to the door, seeing that Rubén had the game all set out, he was already counting out armies, “I hope you don’t mind I took purple.” “No that’s fine, here’s your tea.” Zeke said holding out the tea for Rubén and pulling out the color army he wanted. “Thanks” Rubén said taking the tea seeing it was still very hot he didn’t take a sip yet, but the warmth felt good on his hands. Zeke walked back into the kitchen he would count out the armies once there very late supper was finished, “you sure I can’t help?” Rubén said and not sure really what he could do now, it was just a waiting game at this point, they would start the game once the couscous was finished. “Nah, but come keep me company in the kitchen.” Zeke said and Rubén headed in, happy to not be alone with his thoughts. Rubén walked in looking for a spot to sit he looked at the happy fuzzy puppies they had settled down a bit and were all curling up around each other Zeke looked at him, “grab a slab of counter.” Zeke said tapping the counter and the puppies looked up, “Sorry, babies, but you can’t sit on the counter with him.” Rubén looked at him and Zeke smiled, “Don’t worry friends do it all the time when I cook.” Rubén nodded and set the cup down at first leaning against the counter staying out of Zeke’s way. Zeke looked at him smiling, “I’ll be back in two ticks.” Rubén nodded as Zeke walked off again leaving the room. Rubén knelt down and looked at the fuzzy little creatures, they were so cute, he tested his memory he pointed to each pup, “Barker, DeLonge, Hoppus and Shanna” he said as Shanna looked at him lazily with her flopping ear, she yawned and rested her head again. He smiled and straightened up, he looked at the stove and at all the stuff setting out moving closer, “so this is going to be couscous.” He said taking a sniff, it didn’t smell like anything, was he sure he had this before? “You won’t be able to smell anything yet.” Zeke said returning to the room with a big book. Rubén looked at him blushing a little, “I was just checking it out.” Zeke laughed he had such a sweet laugh. “Here have a seat, you can look at my portfolio well we wait, most of them are smaller shots of some of the ones you saw at the hotel, but…well you don’t have to.” Zeke suddenly added at the end. Rubén grinned, “Are you kidding. I would love to.” He grabbed the book and jumped on the counter sitting down adjusting a little as he did so. There were several yips as the puppies tried to jump up with Rubén then they went off again as Rubén grinned at them, they were so cute, he knew they would all make, he knew they would, he had to believe it. Zeke looked at Rubén sitting there with the book then he turned his head quickly and went back to the food, Rubén wasn’t paying much attention to him as he started flipping through the pictures, plus he got to enjoy the view of Zeke’s backside, not that the front wasn’t amazing too, but he really did have a great little butt. The black and whites were his favorite photos, but the color ones where amazing too, “Did you use a color filter for these color shots or are they natural?” Rubén asked him, Zeke didn’t turn to look at him to answer, “most of them are natural, but I used a few color filters, I don’t really like manipulating nature too much, I think it takes away from the beauty.” Rubén nodded and continued flipping the pages and wondered if Zeke did any nude shots, with his eye he was sure they would be amazing, “Wow!” Rubén said looking at a photo of a thunder storm, “Just amazing I can’t believe you got this shot. How did you do it?” Zeke still hadn’t turned around, “which one is it?” Zeke said with his back still turned to Rubén. “It’s the thunder storm one, just breath taking. The sky is huge and so are the clouds.” Rubén said in aw of Zeke’s pictures. “There are several of those.” Zeke said, Rubén thought it was a little strange that Zeke didn’t turn around, but he was over a pot trying to cook so that needed his attention. “Oh, well it’s the one with the 3 lighting strikes.” Rubén said looking at the back of Zeke’s head then down to his butt, why was he being all weird all of a sudden Rubén thought, did the food really need that much attention, maybe he was showing off a little for Rubén maybe being a bit of a tease. No that wasn’t Zeke, it had to be something else. “Is it the color one in blues and deep purples or the black and white?” Zeke asked, Rubén frowned, he saw that Zeke was just standing there giving the pan a stir but not moving, ok this was just getting strange, “No it’s not either of those, dude just come look.” Zeke froze, “um…” “Zeke these photos are great, there is nothing to be shy about, you have them hanging out all over the place.” Rubén said and Zeke snickered. “I know, but.” “Will you just come look and tell me about it? Then you can go back over to your pots, you’re the one who brought this huge thing to me remember.” Rubén said, finally Zeke turned around his face was beat red and his eyes were all over the place not sure where to look. Rubén look at him shaking his head, “you should be proud of what you have to show off, it’s amazing. You’re really lucky to be this good, so talented.” Zeke smiled as he walked a little closer. Rubén lifted the book and turned it to show Zeke and he stepped back almost like he was being hit Rubén was pointing to the photo, “oh that one.” Zeke said looking quickly from Rubén back to the photo and then turning back to the stove and the prep work. Rubén looked at him, “wow you really are shy about your stuff, you should be proud of it no matter what, if I could have things as impressive as all this, I would show it off all the time to anyone who would look.” Rubén didn’t see that Zeke was blushing even more now. Rubén continued, “Everything looks so huge I mean it must have been amazing to be there to see it all in person. Or does it just look this big because of the lenses you used, I know they can magnify things?” Zeke’s head nodded, “No no it’s very impressive on it’s own it doesn’t need any help.” He was trying not to snicker as he spoke he was embarrassed enough if he just kept his back turned maybe it would all sort out. “That picture was taken a few years back.” Zeke said trying to focus back on the photo Rubén had showed him trying to remember the details of the day. “Well I think it’s fantastic. It’s really an eye full. You know?” Rubén said and now he saw Zeke’s ears burning red, something was going on he was acting way to strange. “Hey listen Zeke, you have a lot of talent here really there is nothing to be so embarrassed about or shy about, I mean I saw your equipment and I figured you’d have to be this good. Anyone with that much to work with had to really know how to use it. Well I would hope, course I wouldn’t really know first hand mind you, it’s just what I’ve heard, from some of the people I work with.” Rubén said still not sure why he was being so strange about his work, he new some artist were funny about their work so he was trying to let it go, maybe by talking he was just making it worse. He continued to look through the book deciding it best to not comment to just enjoy them. Zeke continued to work on the food avoiding looking towards Rubén as much as possible a few times he had no other choice but then he would look at him, blush again and quickly turn back to what he was doing. To be fair it wasn’t that bad, Rubén did enjoy the view maybe a little too much at times. Rubén finally finished looking at the book and set it down on the counter watching Zeke cook. He picked up his tea and took a few sips, it had cooled down enough and he frowned. Zeke hadn’t spoken only coming over once to refill his tea well he looked at the photos, “Did I do something wrong? Did I do something to offend you? Are you mad at me or something?” Rubén said looking at the back of Zeke as he cooked he was getting a little worried now, “No of course not, I just…well…I can’t…” Rubén put the cup down, “What can’t you look at me now? What is it?” Zeke turned around a big grin on his face he was beat red and all kinds of embarrassed, “aren’t you chilly?” He asked, looking Rubén square in the eyes, his face and his eyes not moving. Rubén pursed his lips, “No it’s nice in here, I’m fine.” Rubén said now very confused. Zeke chuckled, “well, um…then do you think you could put your temperature gauge away.” Zeke said still looking at Rubén in the face. Rubén looked even more confused now, “my what?” Finally Zeke looked down and Rubén followed his eyes to his lap, the main button of his PJs had been loosed and popped open at some point exposing his penis and one of his testicles and Rubén had been sitting with his legs spread wide open the entire time. Rubén’s face lit up like a Christmas tree and he jumped off the counter and turned his back on Zeke fumbling with the button, “oh fuck man.” Rubén said now fully understanding why Zeke had been so strange for the last 40 minutes he quickly walked out the to kitchen and headed upstairs, he never wore underwear with his pjs and sense he was alone he never thought of it when things worked their way out, he never gave it two thoughts especially when he was sleeping. He got to the bedroom and pulled off his pjs tossing them to the side and went to were his clothes from today where and pulled on his underwear, “fuck I can’t believe that.” Rubén said to himself trying to get dressed. There was a tap at the door, “you alright?” “Ya I’m just putting on something else, dude, I’m so sorry, if I would have thought.” Rubén said zipping up his pants and pulling on his dress shirt from the day. He looked in the mirror fully dressed again still beat red. Rubén thought back during the 40 minutes, had he had a hard-on or even a semi at any point during that time, maybe, hell now it was all in question, poor Zeke had seem way more then, “damit.” Rubén said to himself. Rubén walked to the door and opened it meekly. Seeing Zeke standing there, “I’m really sorry. I cant’ believe it. I’m completely embarrassed.” Zeke smiled at him his own face still very red, “It’s fine, don’t worry about it, yours isn’t the first penis or testicle I’ve seen in my life.” Rubén frowned his face was still really red and he wanted to crawl under a rock a die, it wasn’t like being a locker room changing this was completely different, he had just been sitting there thinking different thoughts most of which involved Zeke and his rearend and seeing him naked and there he was flashing Zeke the entire time, god he probably did have a semi for a while if not a full blow boner, no he would remember, wouldn’t he, sure it happened and most of the time he didn’t think about it, especially in public, cause he had close on, oh god Rubén felt sick. How many times during all that had he pictured Zeke naked how many chances had there been, he sound have known something wasn’t right, but, finally Rubén mumbled, very self-conscious of himself. “Well, but still, I mean, I just…you.” Rubén stammered. Zeke touched his chest, “It’s fine, now we have a game and the couscous is just about ready.” Rubén nodded and they walked out of the room and back downstairs. |

Zeke/Ruben - The Proverbial Ark “This is really good,” Ruben said taking another bite off his plate. “Thanks,” Zeke replied. “You know, I’ve never actually played this game before.” He took a sip of tea looking at the directions, frowning. It seemed very complicated. Something about war and taking over the world, not really his style… he’d rather play Candyland or something. “But, it’s in your closet,” Ruben said with a slight frown. “Amanda got it for me a few weeks ago on game night,” he replied “but we ended up watching Cars and Harry Potter instead.” He laughed and shook his head, taking another sip of tea. “God sometimes I sound so gay.” “Hey, they’re good movies,” Ruben replied. “Though I liked Finding Nemo better than Cars.” “Ditto,” said Zeke. “Cars is charming though, and she hadn’t seen it yet so that’s what we watched.” He shrugged. “I guess I roll?” “Pretty much, roll and move your armies. That’s pretty much the gist of the game, though we can play something else. I know you said that you’re a paci,” “It’s fine,” Zeke said with a smile. “Really. It’s just a game. Sometimes, sometimes I can be a little too overzealous about my pacifism.” He reached down, scratching one of the puppies behind the ear. The puppy nipped his hand affectionately. He glanced over to their food bowl checking to make sure it wasn’t empty, which it wasn’t. “There’s nothing wrong with standing firm on your beliefs.” He replied taking the dice as Zeke moved his first pieces. “No,” he said “but there should be limitations.” Zeke took another bite of couscous. “Like when?” Ruben asked. He shrugged. “I don’t know, I mean, like when you need to stand up for yourself. I was dating this guy a while ago,” he said. “When things were good, it was good but,” he shook his head “when things were bad,” “He hit you?” Ruben asked with a frown not understanding how someone could ever intentionally hurt someone as kind and gentle as Zeke. “Sometimes,” was Zeke’s reply, “but the last straw was when I found he was cheating on me. I went out to a bar with Amanda one night and, well it doesn’t matter. I went home and grabbed my cameras and moved in here.” He laughed. “It was probably the best decision I ever made.” “Zeke, you shouldn’t have to put up with that kind of stuff. If someone,” “Turn the other cheek,” Zeke replied. “That’s what the Bible teaches us.” “It always says an eye for an eye,” said Ruben. “I know,” he said “but it’s not up to me to judge others, to dispense payback for actions done. God will judge us all when our time comes, or at least that’s the way I see it.” Ruben couldn’t help but laugh as he rolled and debated his first move. “I’m sorry,” he finally said after he was able to get a hold of himself and stop laughing. “You’re just so…” “Full of it?” Zeke aseked. “No!” Ruben said quickly. “I was going to say that you’re so Zen-like. I mean, the world is ending. A giant asteroid is going to hit us and kill billions… and you’re… I mean looking at you it’s like there’s nothing to worry about. You have this… quality about you. I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on it.” He felt his cheeks flush at the compliment as Ruben moved and Zeke picked up the dice again. “Yeah well, trust me, it sucks sometimes. There was this one time,” he said “when I was like fifteen and these boys were, well for back of a better word we’ll just say that they were picking on me,” “Beating the shit out of you because you were gay,” Ruben said and Zeke nodded. “Yeah,” he licked his lips “and I just… I remember the pain, you know? I remember, wanting it to be over and my hand… I remember it balling up into a fist and just, just wanting to hit back,” he shook his head. “But I couldn’t, no matter what’s happened to me in my life… I just can’t do it. Since that day I’ve never been able to get angry again, not like that, not in the way that I wanted to hurt someone. It’s like, like there’s this piece inside of me that’s missing.” “No,” said Ruben. “I don’t think that there’s anything missing.” “Yeah but,” “But nothing,” he replied. “I mean, here’s the thing Zeke. It’s like,” he scratched his head. “It’s like,” he laughed softly “you’re one of God’s chosen.” Zeke burst out laughing and Ruben felt himself blushing. “I mean you’re… you’re perfect. Out of everyone that I’ve ever met in my life, I’m sure that you’ll live through this tomorrow, I mean how could you not? It’s like… Noah’s ark in here or something.” Jesus could he have said anything more lame? “Yeah except all I can do to repopulate the earth is going to be a whole lot of inbred puppies.” He said laughing. “But yeah, I can see the parallel. The state of the world today, all the sin and violence and greed and… I guess God’s just starting over again, huh? Though instead of a flood this time it’s an asteroid.” He held his lower lip between his fingers and they fell silent for a moment. “Guess I should start rounding up two of every kind. I hope they like peanut butter.” The two of them laughed together for a few minutes. “Seriously though,” Zeke said. “I’m glad that you’re here.” His hand reached across the table so that his fingers brushed against Ruben’s hand. “Me too,” Ruben replied. “It’s nice not to be alone.” |

Willow was back, she was safe. Paul hadn't excactly been worried about her, but it was good to know she was ok nonetheless. The bus roared down the street, their driver, whose name escaped Paul at the moment, Rob, or Roy, or something, wa sdoing an admirable job of avoiding running into abandoned cars and random piles of rubble. The riots were getting crazier, Paul even thought he heard the distant pop of gunfire, and once, standing on a street corner, was a girl, about 19 or 20, was wearing a sign that read 'I cant die a virgin'. Paul was surprised no one had taken her up on her offer yet. Hell, if Paul hadn't been so sure Willow and Adam would say no, he'd have asked to stop and pick the girl up. He sighed, regretting. Missed opportunities. He sat down at the small table set into the wall, joining Cat, who was slowly sipping a beer. He passed it to Paul, who took a quick swig of it himself. "Holdin' up ok?" Cat asked, accepting the beer back from Paul. "I guess so." Paul said, scratching his shaggy head of hair, "Just been thinking about shit." "What kinda shit?" Cat asked, "Taking a look back on the fuckstain that your life turned out to be?" "Fuck you," Paul said though he grinned while doing it, "but yea, kinda. I mean, I'm not really afraid to die, because I never gave it much thought. And I'm not very religious, so the concept of Heaven or Hell doesn't bother me that much." "So what is there to think about?" Cat asked, "Sounds like your soul searching is about done." "I know, man, but still, it's not the kinda thing ya think about everyday." Paul said, pulling a joint out of his pocket, looking at it, "I've been doing this shit for years now, and never cared about the consequences. My whole life has been a big party from the time I joined this band." He put the joint back in his pocket, "I figure, the end of the world, if we survive, there's not gonna be a whole lot of drugs around, and looking for them ain't gonna be a huge priority, I'd imagine." Cat looked at Paul, "Are you telling me you're trying to quit?" Paul shrugged, "I dunno, man. Ask me again after the Apocalypse." Cat snorted with laughter, sipping his beer, "I'll be sure to do that." Paul laguhed to, "But, y'know what will be a priority, after the world ends?" "I dunno, man, what?" "Repopulating the planet." Paul said, deadpan. Cat, who had been taking another sip of beer, snorted, choked, and burst out laughing, spraying beer and foam across the table. "You're a moron," He finally choked out, passing his beer back to Paul, who drained it. He threw the bottle into the trash can, making the shot despite the sudden turn the bus made. "Are we there yet?" Paul asked, looking out the window, seeing a bigneon sign that read "Big Johns Camping Surplus Store." "Yes, we made it." Willow said, coming in from the bed room she sometimes shared with Adam. Adam was behind her, carrying a sleeping Lex in his arms. "Well, then, lets get going," Paul said, standing up and stretching, "Not like we got all the time in the world, right?" "Allright," Adam said, turning to Willow, "Me, Paul, and Cat can handle this, why don't you stay here with the kids..." "No." Willow said, shaking her head, causing her long hair to flow around her shoulders. "I'm the experienced camper here, I'll know what we need better then anyone else. The kids will be fine with Ray." "Who the fuck is Ray?" Paul interrupted, confused. Adam and Willow shot hima look of mixed increduility and pity, "Ray is the bus driver, man. Try to keep up." Adam said, before turning back to Willow, "Allright, but at least stay behind us, we don't know what kinda crazy is hiding out in there." "Yes, sir," Willow said, smirking, before she gave Adam a breif kiss on the lips. "Lets get going." Ray agreed to watch the kids, and Cat, Adam, Willow, and Paul got off the bus, and crept cautiousley to the store, not wanting to spook anybody who might be hiding or looting inside. Except for the big neon sign, the store was dark, which Paul took as a good sign. They'd get in, steal a bunch of shit, and get out. Easy as pie. Adam was in the lead, Paul right behind. Adam crouched next to the door, nodding at Paul. Paul opened the door, and Adam stealthily went in, Willow and Cat following behind Paul. BOOM! "FUCK!" Paul yelled, grabbing the collar of Adams shirt, pulling him back, as asection of wall near them exploded into splinters. "Holy shit!" "Ya'll ain't gonna come in here and steal from my store!" A voice yelled out, and Paul tensed as he heard the unmistakable sound of a shotgn being cocked. "We're not here to steal anything, you crazy bastard!" Cat yelled, which wasn't strictly true. "A likely story!" The voice, a man, yelled again. BOOM! A lantern above their heads exploded, raining shards of glass down upon them. "Jesus Christ, stop shooting! We can pay for the stuff!" Paul shouted, without being exactly sure why. There wa s apause, and then the voice called out, more hesitantly then before, "You really expect me to beleive that?" Paul was releived that he didn't hear the shotgun being cocked again. "Yes, we have lots of money! We can pay for what we need!" Willow called out, taking her cue from Paul, and the mans hesitence. "No shit, bro, we take what we need, and we pay for it, and then you never see us again!" Adam called, his voice steady, but his face pale with tensions, as Paul imagined everybodies was. There was a long moments pause, and then they heard the sound of the shotgun being dropped on the counter, "Well, allrighty then!" The voice called, suddenly merry, "C'mon in, we got all your campin' needs at Big Johns!" The group exchanged confused looks, before they stood up, moving very slowly, hands held above their heads, and Paul finally got a look at the man who had shot at them. He was old, maybe in his 70's, and short, but with a broad build that suggested he worked out fairly regular. "C'mon in, don't be shy! We got everything you'll need, right here!" The man gestured impressively, his arms taking in the whole store. Paul took a look around, seeing piles of sleeping bags, pre made tents, a shelf on the far wall full of canned goods and MRE's, and othe rvarious hiking gear the Paul had no idea what was used for, though he suspected Willow might. Willow stepped forward, speaking calmly, "We're going ona long trip, and we need supplies and equipment to last us a month or more, for ten people." "Sure, sure! C'mon in the back with me, darlin', and I'll get ya whatcha need!" The man said, stumping off to the far back wall. The group huddled together, "What the hell is wrong with him?" Cat asked, "That was one hell of a mood swing, you think he's high on something?" "Nu-uh," Paul said, "and trust me, I would know." "Whatevers wrong with him, he has supplies that we need, so Willow and I are going to get whatever gear we need. Why don't the two of you gather up some of those MRE's while we're with him." "Gotcha," Cat said, "That IHOP crap ain't gonna last us long anyways. C'mon Paul." Paul started to follow, but Adam stopped him, "Paul, try not to break anything, ok?" "Hey, its me!" Paul said, grinning innocently. "Thats what we're afraid of." Willow said, though she smiled while she said it. "Just get as much as you can carry, and meet us back at the counter." "We're really gonna pay that crackpot?" Paul protested. "The man has a shotgun, Paul!" Adam said, and Willow nodded. "Besides, I don't think money is going to be very important in these upcoming days, and unless I'm mistaken, paying him was your idea." Willow said, smiling like a cat. "Yeah, yeah," Paul muttered, waving them off, "I'll see about getting some good eats." Cat had already gotten a decent sized pile of canned stuff and the MRE's, "Look at this shit, Insta-spaghetti, just add water." Cat said reading off the label. "Breakfast of champions, dude." Paul said, grabbing a big handeful of canned creamed corn. "Yummy." For a few minutes, the two men gathered a smuch food as they could, until Pauls eye caught something. The food temporarily forgotten, he wandered over to the glass display case, awestruck. Inside, wa sa genuine crossbow, like in those old King Arthru movies he used to watch, except this one was fairly modernized. And even better, the display case was unlocked. He had to do it. He opened the case, reached inside, and picked up the crossbow, surrpised by how heavy it was, "Hey dude, look! I'm William Tell!" Paul said, aiming the heavy weapon at a can of spinach on the shelf. "Paul, put the crossbow down!" Willow shouted from across the store. Fuck, how did she know? He snapped his arms to his side in a show of petulance, "Aww, you guys never let me have any-" THWIP! Paul's voice caught, and Cats face went very pale. Paul swallowed hard, suddenly feeling very naesous. He looked down, already knowing what he was going to see. Embedded in his left foot, which was surrounded by a small pool of blood, was the still quivering crossbow bolt. "AAAAUUUUGHHH!" |
|
"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man whose gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!" | |

Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny

Willow/Adam - Together Willow could feel the bus rolling smoothly down the street as they headed out of town, the bus now completely filled to the brim. They’d been able to fit far more than she had anticipated by condensing the suitcases. Adam had gotten rid of everything that wasn’t essential and shoved each one full to the nth degree. The suitcases had then been moved into the bus itself and the cargo holds had been stuffed with camping equipment along with most of the weapons they had acquired. There were a few in the bus as well, but not many. She’d put her foot down about it. If and when the shockwave from the impact hit them she didn’t want sharp objects flying all over the place, especially with her kids in there. She looked down at Callie who was sleeping in the pack-n-play peacefully, a light blanket over her and Rufus tucked under her arm as she sucked on her thumb. Tears came to her eyes as she looked at her baby thinking of how cruel the fates had been to allow them into the world only to cause this to come. Her eyes moved to Lex, who was curled up on the floor in his Scooby Doo sleeping bag. He must have moved there on his own. She’d put him into the bed herself. A smile came to her face as she looked at him. Clearly though he was happy to be on the bus with Daddy, he still had that desire to ‘camp’ even if it now consisted of sleeping on the floor in his sleeping bag. Her eyes closed and she leaned back as she felt Adam’s arm slide around her waist and his lips kiss the side of her neck gently. “I missed you,” she whispered reaching back and holding his face to her shoulder. “I missed you too,” he said turning her in his arms. “I’m so glad you’re here.” There were tears in his eyes, which brought the same to hers. His fingers touched her cheek, wiping away a tear as it rolled down her face. She stepped in, her lips caressing his gently feeling his mouth open to hers and the kiss deepened. Her arms slid around his waist and she felt his fingers gripping the bottom of her shit, pulling it up. Their kiss broke only so that he could pull her shirt off over her head. “We have to be quiet,” she said softly as he pushed her back onto the mattress and he nodded, understanding. It had been two months since they’d seen each other, two long months, and now the world was ending tomorrow. To die and not be together, it went unsaid that that just was not going to happen. Though she had to qualms about having sex with the children in the room, she knew that Adam did. If they weren’t facing the end of the world they would have waited until morning, until someone could have taken the kids out of the bus for a few hours but that wasn’t going to happen now. The bus would remain moving for as long as was possible. There would be no stopping for a few hours. The only stopping that they would make would be for gas, and possibly food. She didn’t know how much they had on board. Her fingers dropped to his pants, fumbling at the buckle. A nervous laugh came from her lips and she could feel him smile into their kiss as he pulled off her bra and began to work on her jeans. She managed to get his undone first and she shoved them down to his knees, bringing up her feet and using her toes to grab the waist and pull them off him as her fingers pulled off his shirt. It seemed to take forever for the two of them to get their clothes off so that they were naked together on the bed and for a minute, they just laid there together, looking at each other side by side. Adam’s fingers moved over her breasts gently, as though trying to burn the memory into his brain for the rest of time, and she did the same, her fingers tracing over the tattoos on his chest and down his stomach. Adam eventually rolled her onto her back, kissing her again, deeply, tenderly and trailed the kisses down her neck, across her shoulders, over her breasts and stomach where he laid, his chin resting there, and his eyes looking up at her. He closed his eyes as she reached down, running her fingers through his hair and he turned his head, pressing his cheek against her flesh, his hands gripping either side of her waist. “I need you,” she whispered softly pulling him up so that she could kiss him again and she wrapped her legs around his waist. A soft gasp came from her lips as he slid inside her. It felt so right, it always felt so right with him. Out of all of the partners that she’d had in her life, none fit her as perfectly as Adam did. Every time he touched her it was like an electric spark, every time he kissed her, her heart fluttered with excitement and when he was inside her… Willow bit his shoulder to stifle the moan that came to her lips and he pressed his face into the nape of her neck to keep himself quiet. Their bodies moved together slowly, gently, as quietly as they could though there was nothing that they could do about the soft squeaking of the mattress that they were on. Adam tried to move slower, but it still made noise. It wasn’t the others hearing what they were doing that they wanted to avoid; it was the kids waking up. Her fingers reached down, grabbing his ass and pulling him in tighter and she could feel tears forming in her eyes. She squeezed them shut and kissed his shoulder where she had bit him, pressing her lips back into it as another moan came forward. There was no stopping it this time, though she was able to muffle it on his skin. She gasped, her fingers clinging to him like a lifeline and his arms were wrapped around her shoulders, crushing her against him with almost brutal force. They did their best to make it last, but it was to short… far too short. An hour would have been an hour to short considering the future that they were facing and after it was over, all they could do was lay there under the covers, wrapped in each other’s arms. “Adam,” she said gently, touching his tear streaked face as he touched hers. “I love you.” “I love you too,” he replied, pressing the palm of his hand to her cheek. “I talked to my Dad, well, he called and left me a message.” “And how did that go?” She asked. Adam couldn’t help but smile. “He said, he said he loved me… and that he was heading to Salt Lake City with some people he’d run into.” The smile faltered though as a thought occurred to him. “What about, what about your parents?” Willow shook her head. “There are no phones on the commune, and they probably don’t know which… it’s fine I guess. I mean they’re so happy there, at least…” her next words trailed off and she buried her face into his chest. They’d die on the commune, living the life that they loved, the life that she too loved. They’d die unaware of what was happening, which is almost what she wished for herself and her family. “We should get dressed,” Adam said softly, sitting up. “There’s not a lot of room on the bus and a lot of people, we need the space.” “In a minute,” she replied grabbing his arm and pulling him back down on the bed. “Just… one more time?” He looked down at her and smiled. “Okay.” |

Tom & family--Minnesota lake cabin Tom, 3rd from the left, with Angels and Airwaves ![]() Tom hadn’t been to Minnesota in a long time. But then again, he hadn’t had the opportunity to relax in a long time, either. When you tour 300 days out of the year, it was a little difficult to find the time. But that was then, this was now. With the past year's tension and sorrow over Blink's break up and after having recently released a new album that spawned a lot of negative press from the comments he'd made about it, Tom could use the time off. He didn’t hesitate to say yes when his wife asked if he wanted to spend some time at her parent’s lake cabin. Sophie’s folks didn’t ever like Tom that much—they were a serious family with certain beliefs and values, and were quite reserved. Tom was pretty much the opposite of all that. He was also the opposite of what they felt Sophie should seek in a mate. Though they tolerated him better after the birth of their daughter, Ava, Sophie’s parents were still cool toward him. Tom supposed his years with Blink 182, goofing off, running around naked, singing about fucking dogs and grandpa probably didn’t help his case any. Tom stretched and rolled out of bed. He could hear Ava downstairs playing with the dogs and Sophie scolding her to be quiet. He assumed Jonas was up, too, sitting in his rocking swing he loved so much. Yawning and scratching his balls, Tom padded to the bathroom and did his best to piss neatly with the morning wood he was sporting. Sophie always yelled at him when he missed. Though to be fair, most of the time he wasn’t aiming too carefully. Today, though, he really tried. Tom smelled coffee brewing, and he imagined she was cooking some hot cereal with honey. That was his favorite, at least when he made it. God bless her, Soph really tried embracing the vegan lifestyle, even though she couldn’t cook for crap and usually ended up throwing the cookbooks across the room in disgust when her recipes turned out bad. Which happened a lot. Tom smiled thinking about it as he pulled on his jeans. He sat on the edge of the bed, slipping on his Macbeth shoes, and thought about the last time Blink 182 had been in Minnesota, at the Mall of America. It was probably about 7 or 8 years ago. Tom remembered it well, because the mall had put on a Tom DeLonge look a like contest, which he had entered at Mark’s suggestion. Tom, using an alias, of course, finished second in his own look a like contest, which had him, Mark, and Travis laughing for days. The judges had been so horrified when they found out. Ah, good times. Tom pulled an Encinitas Fire Dept t-shirt over his head and bounded down the stairs. “What’s for breakfast?” Sophie glared up at him from the cookbook she was studying, her face a mask of concentration and frustration. “I hate this cookbook!” she pouted. Tom chuckled and gathered her up into his arms. “Well we’re in the middle of nowhere, we can’t exactly order breakfast out here,” he said as he bent down to kiss her. He was a tall guy, and he towered over his 5'5" wife. “Ugh, Tom, your breath!” she wrinkled her nose and pulled away. “Hey, now, it can’t be that bad,” he cupped his hand and breathed into it, then sniffed. “Christ.” He remembered all the wine he had drunk the night before. Oh, yeah. He remembered now—he’d puked in the middle of the night. Oops. “Tell me you’re going to brush those.” “Of course, honey, right after breakfast.” Tom opened the lid of the pot Soph had on the stove to peer in. It looked dubious. It smelled like rotten seaweed. Super. His stomach rolled over, knowing he was going to have to eat some of it. He always tried what she made. God, I’m a good husband, Tom thought. Tom replaced the lid before he puked again and took a coffee mug from the cupboard. Sohpie didn’t drink the stuff, but she still made it for Tom. He poured himself a nice, big mug full. “Great coffee, sweetie,” he commented, sipping down the piss-waterish swill. God bless her, she tried. And he drank this every morning, telling her how good it was. Sophie’s face lit up like it always did when he said she made great coffee. It was the one thing she knew she made well. “Ava has been dying for you to get up, she’s going nuts without a TV or radio or computer. She wants to know how you plan to entertain her.” She smiled. “Me? Why me? Wasn’t this location YOUR idea?” he said, sipping more coffee. He didn’t even grimace anymore. He was a pro after drinking it the past 10 years. “Because you’re her father and she’s a daddy’s girl?” Sophie said, in a “duh, ding dong” voice. “Oh, of course,” Tom said, glancing over his shoulder to witness Ava spinning around in circles in the living room with one of Tom’s baseball caps perched jauntily on her head. Backwards, of course. That’s how daddy wore them. She was singing, off key, about butterflies in space. “She takes after you, honey,” Tom quipped, laughing. “Yeah, right,” Sophie exclaimed, punching Tom in the arm. “She’s almost more like you than you are!” Tom just nodded. Yeah, his daughter was definitely his spawn. She had his ornery grin, too. God, what had he been thinking bringing her here with no TV, no radio, no laptop….shit. He knew exactly what to do. He put on a backwards baseball cap and started spinning with his daughter, and joined her in singing about butterflies in space. It was a no-brainer, wasn’t it? Adam, Willow--that's some afterglow Adam pulled on his clothes as Willow took a brief shower. He sent another text to his father: dad, on our way to utah. wait for us. luv you. One worry down, now on to the next one. It was all well and good that they had all these camping supplies, but honestly he was more worried about having enough supplies for the kids. Would they have enough diapers, baby food, medicine, clothes, etc? Adam kind of doubted that one backpack full of stuff was enough. Willow’s answer to the diaper problem would probably just be to let Calli crap and piss all over until she potty-trained herself. It was the hippy way. But not Adam’s way. Gross. He wrinkled his nose at the thought of it. “Hey, hon,” he called through the tiny bathroom door. “What about baby supplies?” He heard Willow’s muffled voice through the hissing shower and the door. “If we pass a Wal-mart or something like that, we’ll stop for stuff. Otherwise, we can go the hippy route.” I knew it, Adam thought. “No way, babe. This bus is crowded enough, we don’t need stinky piles of baby shit all over to make it worse.” “Well, then we could tear up some shirts or something to make diapers,” she said patiently. “What about food and stuff?” Willow spoke as though Adam were an idiot. “They’re both old enough to eat regular food, baby, as long as it’s cut up for them. What’s the problem? We’re fine!” “Ok, ok, guess I’m worried for nothing,” Adam muttered. Sometimes Willow’s ‘it will all work out’ attitude was too much. She never worried about anything. He worried about lots of things. Luckily most of the time they balanced each other out. Adam heard the shower turn off and shortly after, Willow emerged with a towel wrapped around herself. She sighed as she observed Adam holding Lex and Calli in his lap, staring out the window. She could see he was worried. And it wasn’t about diapers. Willow sat on the bed next to Adam and leaned her head on his shoulder, taking his hand. “I know, baby, this sucks,” she said softly, looking at her children and reading Adam’s mind about their dismal future. Adam just nodded, not wanting to start crying in front of the kids. They hadn’t sensed anything was wrong at all. Traveling on the bus was just one big adventure to them. “I keep thinking about the guy in the camping store,” he said. “I mean, he was ready to blow everybody away. And he actually TRIED to, Willow. There will be people like that all over the place.” He turned his head to meet Willow’s eyes. “How’re we gonna protect them from THAT? And if….you know….we somehow make it through the next 24 hours….” He shook his head, unable to continue. Willow knew what he was thinking, though. What kind of world would their kids grow up in? Domenica/Sam/Alex/Roza – Change of Plans Domenica continued to drive down the road, she was furious. Sam was being a paranoid old fart. The military had done nothing but help the people in the convoy, there was 2 military humvees, and 10 military men and maybe 35 or 45 civilians, sure they had big guns, but come on, so did half the people in this little group. Was it possible that those 6 National Guards People could start shooting people and maybe try to kill them or worse, anything was possible, but why did he tell her, “here’s a card with my cell number if you’re going to split off, just text me. I don’t blame anyone for being scarred right now or wanting to go it alone.”. Granted she didn’t meet this Captain person, but Lieutenant Johnson. was nice and helpful and was just doing his best. The more she thought about it the more stupid it all seemed and it annoyed her. There were 5 other vehicles ranging from a bus, with maybe 25 people and the other 4 were SUVs filled with families or same groups just trying to get out of the LA basin, everyone was trying to get to safety even these National Guards people, what were they suppose to do, get washed away just so that people wouldn’t think they were all nut jobs. She thought about the kerosene, that did bother her, Sam said if they put it in their tank it would kill the engine, then why would this mystery Captain give them kerosene? Maybe it was for the lanterns or camping stove, hell at this point anything was possible. She kept her thoughts to herself though that was why it was making her angry, Domenica was generally a nice caring person and most things just rolled off her back, but this, this stuck with her. He sighed making the next left following the 4x4 in front of her, she was picturing every disaster movie and horror movie she had ever seen and it was always the same old thing: Military is bad, Military can’t be trusted, Military are crazy, Military cause it all, Military this, Military that, how stupid was it. With very few exceptions like ID4 the US Military was shown to almost always be evil, but this wasn’t a movie or some stupid low budget bad script Sci-Fi movie. She sighed, finally not able to keep her mouth shut, “You know not all the military people are bad. This isn’t some really lame disaster movie.” She blurted out and everyone looked at her. Sam spoke up, “no one said they were, we just have to be careful, there are a lot of nuts out there.” Alex nodded, “he’s right and you have to admit that whole fuel thing and potential of them not letting us leave them is very creepy.” Domenica pursed her lips and kept driving, “Then why not search all the vehicles, take all the weapons, why pretend to be nice, why give us a cell number to text him if we decide to leave? Why all the fake politeness? Why not have an armed man in each vehicle to keep everyone in line? Why not just leave us and go on their own, they don’t need to help us? They could abandon every person here and get a heck of a lot farther in those humvees, especially with that big slow bus in our group? None of it makes any sense, fine Marshal Law I get it, but they would have to shot all these civilians and for what, to be in charge? If you kill everyone what’s there to be in charge of? It’s paranoia like that that gets people killed?” She took a deep breath she realized she was shaking, then before anyone else could speak, “You should all know that my sister-in-law is in the National Guards so are 3 of my uncles and 2 of my cousins and I prey to god that they are safe and not having to deal with paranoid people who think they are all out to get them, cause I can assure you they would die to protect every person in this car, just so that maybe we had a chance, so maybe you all need to think about that bout a minute and not base what you think you know on some stupid Hollywood anti military movie.” With that everyone in the car was silent, no one knew what to say, there wasn’t a point she brought up that wasn’t valid, of course they all had to be careful and she had no intention of being anything but careful but they also had to try and trust peoples good nature or they was no point to anyone surviving. “I didn’t mean to offend you.” Sam said looking over at her, he was offering her a soft smile as he spoke, “It’s just that you never know and you and Roza, well hell you both are beautiful and not everyone is noble, especially in times like these and I’m being protective I know, but still. Plus I don’t trust them, some of the stuff they’ve said and that fuel thing.” Gareth looked at them, “To be fair, they did let us go and get you the medicine if they really wanted to keep us under control that would have never happened, and that Lieutenant didn’t say anything about the stuff we magically found in the road, I haven’t seen such bad acting sense working with Eve. I mean he knew it was a lie, you could see it in his face.” Roza looked around the small group, “I agree with Sam, we can’t trust them and should get away as soon we can.” She said turning her attention out the window and up ahead. “Well it would be easy enough there is one humvee in the front and one in the middle right in-front of the bus and we’re at the back, we could just pull off, go down a different street and leave, it would be hours until they noticed.” Alex said looking around the car. Domenica nodded, “Sure doesn’t play to the whole evil military conspiracy does it?” Her pleasant tone replaced by one of being snarky and bitchy. There was a sigh from the back of the car, it was Sam he was frowning, “Do whatever you want. I don’t know anything. I’m an old stupid man. In fact just pull over and I can walk.” Sam said crossing his arms in front of him defensively. Domenica couldn’t help but laugh, “Fine and then you can carry all that equipment you made us get.” She smiled at him as he pursed his lips clearly unhappy, “Oh Sam, fine I’m sorry for biting your head off, look we’re just about to Palm Springs can we just forget it. For all I know you could be 100% correct and it’s good to be on our guard we have no idea what we’re going to face.” The tension in the car finally lifted as everyone seemed to understand where the other was coming from and they all agreed to give this a chance and if things went south then they would just leave, it wasn’t like the whole military was there after all it was 10 people and 2 humvees. As they started heading into Banning it was a small town just west of Palm Springs out of no where the car was filled with a sudden popping sound and Domenica was forced to stop the car as the vehicle in front of her came to a halt as well. Next to them a car that was abandoned windows blew out with another round of popping everyone started to duck and scream, “What the bloody hell?” Gareth yelled doing his best to cover both he and Domenica, “Gun fire.” Sam said doing his best to cover his head well Alex and Roza did the same ducking as low as they could. There was more gunfire and several yells who ever it was the National Guard where firing back at them. After several minutes it fell silent there was no more gun fire or yelling and screaming. Everyone kept their heads down for several minutes waiting they had no idea it was safe or not. “We go now.” Roza said, clearly shaken. “I think we all can agree with that.” Sam said peaking out the window just a bit, it had all fallen quiet. He saw a few people moving about checking things out, but for the most part it was silent. There was another tap at the window and everyone jumped. Domenica looked it was Lieutenant Johnson he was standing there holding his arm. Domenica opened the door as did the others getting out, “You’ve been shot.” He looked at her, “you guys ok?” Alex nodded, “The car next to us took the brunt.” Roza pulled out one of the medical kits moving on autopilot. “Let me see your arm.” She said as the Johnson stood there explaining, “We got ambushed, Captain Hicks, they killed him. It was a lucky shot.” Everyone looked at him as Roza continued to check his arm. “Who’s in charge now?” Sam said looking around Johnson frowned, “me.” “Oh I’m so sorry.” Domenica said her tone filled with sadness for his loss. “Is it safe shouldn’t we find cover?” Gareth said looking around worried. “Nah we got um, they had the jump on us, but weren’t too bright, you’d be surprised how many people think we’re the bad guys.” He said shaking his head. “You know it would be nice to be shown as the good guys once in a while.” Johnson said as the group was silent. One of the other military people came up; she was a Hispanic gal short but looked fierce, “Lieutenant the area’s secure, we got; stupid people.” Roza finished with his arm, “you sore day or two but bullet went threw should be fine. Tetness up to date, yes?” He nodded and she smiled at him. He looked at Martinez, “How are the others Martinez?” She shrugged, “You know civvies they are shaken afraid of a few bullets but we should be ready to go in 10.” “Alright. Take one of the vees and check the road ahead, if, it’s clear we’ll move on.” She nodded and when off. Johnson looked at them, “Listen I know what I said before, but you all can continue heading to Salt Lake City, it was the Captain’s idea for everyone to stick together, we’ve gotten some reports that Salt Lake City is getting overrun from everyone from the West coast and they are having trouble keeping control, it might not be to safe, but if you want to head there that is your call the road is going to split after Palm Springs you have my cell number just text me if you’re gonna leave.” He said smiling and he looked at Roza, “Thanks Doc.” They watched him walk to the front of the line of cars to check on the others as they all stretched their legs, “So now what?” Domenica said looking at the others. “Well I guess we may have a change in plans.” Sam said to the others Domenica heard her phone and in the front of the car. She went for it and pulled out her blackberry viewing the text message, “dad, on our way to Utah. Wait for us. Luv you.” Domenica read to the group. Sam smiled, “They’re on their way there. Thank god.” Sam said happy and Domenica smiled at him, “Here, you know how to work it, just put it back in my purse I want to stretch my legs.” Gareth looked at her, “Want some company?” He asked she smiled and nodded, “Excellent.” Sam looked at them, “Stay close. There might be more of them out there.” Domenica smiled at him, “Yes dad.” |

Ruben/Zeke – Games Rapture Regrets “I don’t understand.” Zeke said looking at the board. Rubén smiled at him, “well it’s very simple we got rid of the third non-player army and now the board is covered in one color.” Rubén said starting to pick up the pieces of the game and putting them away, it was over and had been a blood bath. “But still how? I mean it was a slaughter, to use your words.” Rubén grinned again fumbling with the pieces trying to get them in the right boxes, “tell me about it. I had no idea it would go that quick, but it did.” Rubén picked up the small little armies and continued putting them in the correct color box, Zeke finally helping him the stunned look still on his face, “To quote the former President it was complete ‘shock and ah’ starting in one corner of the world and working it’s away out.” Rubén mocked. Zeke picked up the last of his pieces and put them away, “But I never win especially at war games, Candyland or Shoots and Ladders is more my speed.” Rubén smiled again that would explain why both games were in his closet, “well you might say you’re a paci, vegan, pro environment homo but guess what? You have an amazing military strategic mind the Pentagon is missing out by not tapping that.” Rubén frowned to himself he had become keenly aware of every possible double meaning in everything he said, he didn’t have a normally overly sexual mind, but sense the whole thing with the pajamas it had been a whole different story and he wasn’t sure that by now Zeke didn’t think he was some sex fiend or whatever. He continued, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Rubén folded up the game board and put it in the box putting the lid on the box and pushing it to the side. “Listen I’ve lost plenty in this game and I’ll tell you this, I’ve never seen it played as well as you did just now. There is no way it was beginners luck, you saw moves before I did your strategies were sound, heck better then anything I’ve ever seen.” Zeke was frowning, “But I’m…” Rubén looked at him flashing him his award winning smile, “a military genius. I don’t even want to play Axis and Allies with you, I don’t think my butt could stand another pounding like that.” Rubén couldn’t pull the words back into his mouth, it happened again, ugh was there nothing he could say. Zeke looked at him, “Axis and what?” Rubén smiled thankful Zeke was again letting his comment slid, “it’s another military strategy game, but it’s based on World War II, it’s fun with a lot of people, two people, however, makes it too difficult, plus like I said I don’t fancy having you hand me my butt again on a silver platter.” Rubén could see the disapproving look on Zeke’s face it wasn’t his comment thank goodness but the idea of him being some kind of military genius, “but still the idea of me being good at that sort of thing.” Rubén gave him an evil smile, “God works in mysterious ways, as stated by our soon to be New Pope Ezekiel the First.” They both laughed and fell silent there as another round of honking horns off in the distance followed by two short pops of gun fire. Rubén looked to the front door it looked really study which was good, “what do you think is happening out there? Your neighborhood seems pretty quiet, but I wonder about the rest of the area.” The mood in the room was suddenly serious, “I’m not sure, I just hope everyone’s ok. I mean I want to go and help, but I know right now isn’t the time.” Rubén sighed sitting back in the chair, quickly looking at his crotch, his pants where zipped up and nothing was sticking, he was now not only very paranoid about what he was saying but also of a repeat of his dick making another surprised visit, at least Zeke had been a gentlemen and not said anything about before or even with some of his lame comments, it was another one of his good qualities Rubén had yet to see anything negative about Zeke. Again they were quiet Rubén looked at him his face now serious, “Do you think it’s Judgment Day? I mean the Rapture from the Bible? Do you think that is what we’re about to see, Zeke?” Zeke looked at him Zen as ever, “I don’t know, but to be honest I don’t really think so.” “I wish I were so sure, what if the good have already been chosen and we’re the ones left here to suffer?” Rubén said thinking about what he remembered from the Rapture from church. Zeke reached across the table touching his arm, it was electric sending a burst of energy though Rubén body, “It’s not the Rapture and if it is then each man will be weighed on his or her own merits, there isn’t anything to be done now.” Rubén nodded not wanting to move his arm, Zeke didn’t move his hand either, “I just wish I would have done things different I’m messed a lot of things up in my life; things I regret.” Zeke looked at him, “everyone has, Rubén we’re all human after all, we live and do the best we can that is all we’re suppose to do.” Zeke watched Rubén’s face he seemed very tense Zeke could see it in his face and shoulders his whole body language seemed on edge. Rubén smiled nodding, “I suppose.” Zeke watched him he could see the fear on Rubén’s face not about being judged just that this might be their last night. “I bet you were a jock in school right?” Zeke said trying to lighten the mood again. Rubén looked at him relaxing a little, “something like that. I played football I also was on the track team.” He laughed, “I lettered in both.” Zeke smiled, “did you play in College?” Rubén nodded, happy for the change in topic, “I did, I got a scholarship to BYU and I played all 4 years on their football team.” Zeke looked at him, “Why not go on to play pro?” Rubén smiled, he knew there were gays in pro football, but that was a challenge he never wanted, “I wasn’t that good and I didn’t want to. I mean it’s fine in school, it helped keep me busy and out of trouble and of course helped with the whole gay thing. No one knew.” He thought for a moment and added, “not even me, well I guess I did, but I was deep in the closet.” Zeke looked at him and smiled he wasn’t 100% sure Rubén was gay, but now there was no doubt now, “I bet you never got picked on.” Rubén sighed, “not at school anyway, my dad, well my dad thought I was too soft, to girly, to pretty señorito is what he would call me, after he broke my arm he would beat me up every so often just to make sure I was a real man.” Zeke looked at him a little shocked that he had gone through that, “I’m sorry I didn’t know.” Rubén shrugged, “no one did, my mother pretended not to see it and he kept it from my sisters calling it boxing; Ruby, my oldest sister she knew, but there wasn’t anything she could do about it.” He looked around the room not wanting to talk anymore about it, it was still a very tender subject, “Anyway I got a scholarship and left, I haven’t been back sense, never talked to any of them until Ruby showed up at my house one day in Utah, she hired a PI to track me down.” Zeke let him talk not saying anything even if he wanted to say something what could he say that didn’t sound patronizing, “I blamed them all for what happen to me, my father, my mother and my sisters, God I hated them. It took a very long time to realize that they had no power over me, only what I gave them. So I stopped hating them and finally found out who I was. It’s hard to forgive him, but after today that’s all water under the bridge, nothing would make me happier then to see him again and tell him and my mother how much I love them and how stupid I’ve been. To me it doesn’t matter what they think of me or what anyone thinks of me for that matter, I just want them to know I love them.” Zeke looked at him, “There is always hope only God knows what he has planned for us.” Rubén nodded, “I know, I do, it’s just hard knowing what’s coming and knowing there is nothing I can do, I just have to have faith that it will sort out and that after tomorrow, well you know.” “Yep.” Zeke said smiling gently. Rubén looked around the room quickly, “It’s awfully quiet where are the kids?” Rubén said with a little laugh, “Sleeping I checked them when I went to get more tea five minutes before I won the game, they are all curled up in the kitchen.” “At least someone can sleep. Any idea what time it is?” Rubén asked looking around the room not seeing a clock. Zeke looked over at him with a smile, “Does it matter?” Rubén thought a moment, “No I guess not.” Then he looked at Zeke thinking of when Zeke touched his arm, he wanted nothing more then to lean in and kiss him, to touch him to feel him next to him and to taste his breath on his lips, Zeke caught the funny look on his face, “what? What is it?” Rubén shook his head, “It’s nothing, did you want to play another game, Candyland is in the closet?” Zeke laughed, “Now that is more my speed.” Rubén chuckled getting up grabbing Risk and walking over to the closet to get the other game, he mumbled to himself Zeke not able to hear, “so many regrets.” |

Alex/Domenica/Sam/Roza - Road Trip Alex sat on the hood of the car, watching Gareth and Domenica move along the street, going for walk. He kept his cricket bat close at hand, then opened a bottle of water. He took a long pull, capped it and tossed the bottle to Sam. “So, they said they’re heading to Utah, right?” Sam nodded, “yeah. Why?” “Well I’m thinking we should text them back, send them to Colorado.” “Why?” Roza asked, leaning against the car, taking a drink from the bottle Sam had passed to her. “Well think about, Captain America there said that everyone was migrating to Salt Lake City, trying to get in the bunkers, right?” Sam and Roza nodded. “Well, think about it logically. Everyone and his uncle is head there, and really, most of them are probably gonna be full by the time we get there, I mean hell, they’ve probably reserved spots already for all the people they’re gonna need. You know, doctors, politicians, people with real pull. And what are we, a rag-tag group of nobodies? I’m not trying to Johnny Raincloud here, far from it, I’m just trying to think logically.” “Well you still come off rather pessimistic, Alex,” Roza noted. “And may I just ask why you’re bringing this up?” “Hey, you heard Captain America didn’t you? He said it was chaos there, clear as day. So I’m thinking we make tracks for Colorado, hole up in the Rockies somewhere.” He reached into his pocket and fished out his silver pocket watch. “The President said it’s gonna hit sometime tomorrow, right? So we better haul ass, pronto. I’m gonna text my cousin Ames, she was supposed to meet me in Anaheim that didn’t happen,” he held his hand out to Roza. “I lost my phone in the city somewhere, no idea where.” Roza nodded and passed him the phone, he tapped out a quick message: A, Headed 4 Colorado Rockies...maybe Denver area? Gonna talk to the others w/ me; text me. Luv, Alex He passed the phone back to Roza. “I just sent her to Colorado. Sam, you wanna text your son, send him there too? To me it’s the most logical thing.” Sam nodded, “I guess so.” “Good,” Alex said, sliding off the hood and picking up his bat. “I’m gonna go find Domenica and Gareth. Let ‘em know we’ve changed plans.” He walked off in the direction they went in, leaving Sam and Dominica at the car. Sam placed his hand on Alex’s shoulder. “Before I text Adam though, find Domenica and put this to a vote.” Alex shrugged, “Yeah, I guess.” He hefted the bat, resting it on his shoulder as he trotted off after Gareth and Domenica. He found them a few miles up the road, slowly working their way back to the car. “Hey guys,” Alex nodded to them; he had opened his button down shirt to reveal a blue Castle Contracting t-shirt. “I was thinking a change of plans for where we were headed.” “Really?” Domenica said. “Where were you thinking?” “Rockies,” Alex replied. He shrugged off the button down shirt and dropped it on the side of the road. “Damn it’s warm today. But I figure the Rockies are nice and safe. Very safe, lots of caves to hide in.” “Yeah, but Colorado’s a twenty hour drive, Park City’s only nine. Plus Park City has mines and my family. I’m not gonna leave them,” Domenica said. Alex sighed, “I get you want to hook up with your family, but I’m trying to track down my cousin right now. I texted her to meet me in Colorado.” “Well that leaves you with two choices: go to Colorado alone or text her back,” Domenica walked further along the street and Alex fell into step with her. “So Park City’s nine hours?” “Yeah,” Domenica replied. “So I really do think we should go there.” Alex sighed, “yeah, I guess. Sam’s gonna put it to a vote when we get back to the car.” OOC: Alex’ T-shirt looks like this:

Zeke/Ruben - Human “So what do we do?” Ruben asked, taking a sip of the fresh tea that Zeke had poured. “I mean tomorrow when the sun comes up,” “I don’t know,” Zeke replied. “I hadn’t really thought about it.” He picked up the top card on the deck and moved his piece to the next purple square. He loved Candyland. Some people might think that it was creepy that a grown man liked this game, it probably added to his rumored pedophilia. Of course it had nothing to do with that, it was memories of his Grandmother, sitting for hours with him on Saturdays playing this game. “Where are we going to go? I mean, when it hits,” “There’s room in the basement,” Zeke said. “I left a small walkway to the rear corner, but,” “But what?” “I don’t think we’ll need it.” Ruben frowned. “Why do you say that?” He picked up the next card and moved his piece to the next red square. “Let me guess, because you didn’t feel the need to store all your supplies in the basement.” Zeke nodded. “Pretty much,” he said sitting his drink. “I mean, I feel like we could just… I don’t know, like we could be sitting here playing Monopoly safe and sound.” He leaned back in his seat, his eyes drifting over to the blinded window. He’d been making sure to always keep the blinds down, at all times, no matter what. One, he didn’t fancy people finding out that he lived alone considering the supplies he’d amassed, and two, he didn’t fancy people finding out about the supplies themselves. The less people knew about it right now, the better. People were insane at times like this. He was sure looting was running rampant all over the country, even in places that were at the highest risk. Places like Los Angeles, New York… just about anywhere really… on the coast and off. Shops would be free game. The police would be going home to their families to get out of town. There might be one or two out there still doing their job out of a unyielding sense of duty but, “What is it?” Ruben asked as Zeke shook his head. “What do you mean?” “You had a look.” “A look?” Zeke asked with a frown and turned the tea cup in the saucer. “I’m sorry, I was just, I’m not feeling like myself tonight.” “What were you thinking about?” He asked. “The end of the world? I think everyone’s been thinking about that. The billions of people that are going to die? The,” “No,” Zeke replied. “Human nature. I was just, I disappointed myself. I always try to see the best in people, no matter what and right now, I was just thinking about how selfish human nature is, how foolish we can be. I can’t help but ask myself, have we earned this?” He looked at Ruben from under dark lashes. “It’s not like me to think like this. It’s not… me.” “Zeke,” Ruben said “you’re not infallible. We all have moments of weakness. Even Jesus has his, well okay, I’m pretty sure he did,” he said as Zeke smiled at him. “Son of God yes, but his mother was human. I’m pretty sure I could make a sound logical argument for it.” “Well I’d like to hear it,” Zeke said with a smile. “Tomorrow,” he replied. “After the impact. I don’t want to jinx us.” He couldn’t help but laugh. There was just something about Ruben, an ease about him. It made him comfortable, at ease. “Ruben?” He asked, his voice soft. “Yeah?” He asked, watching Zeke move his piece again. “Tomorrow, when it hits?” His tongue ran over his bottom lip. “Will you… hold me? I mean just if something does happen, if I’m wrong,” “Yeah, sure.” Ruben replied smiling and he reached over the table taking Zeke’s hand in his. “Thank you,” he said feeling sheepish, wrapping his fingers around Ruben’s hand in response. “I’m really glad I met you tonight. I thank God, that I met you tonight.” Ruben felt his cheeks flush. “You’re not the only one that’s grateful Zeke.” Zeke raised Ruben’s hand to his lips and kissed the back of it gently. It was a pure move, a gentle move of pure affection, compassion, adoration that spanned far more than just physical needs. That one single kiss said a lifetime worth of words. “It’s your move,” he said letting go of Ruben’s hand with a smile. “I’ll get us some more tea.” |
