Epilog - The Restaurant at the Edge of the Universe

Cymar Federation Ship – Minerva
Day 1
**********************************************************

Bet had given them all a chance to rest and recover, giving them each as much time as they needed to think about her proposition. They had all come to her and given her their decision. She smiled to herself as she walked down the hall to the conference room where she left them, the poor dears, she wish they could have had them someplace a little nicer, but she was bound by safety protocols. She reached the door waved her hand and the door opened as if from nothing. She walked into the room and saw them all sitting there waiting for her. “Well hello again my pretties.” She said with a smile looking around at all of them, they seemed to have forgiven her, but only time would tell.

“You seem much more yourself.” Galen said looking at her taking note of her outfit and she nodded, waving her hand, a holographic screen appearing from no where, she ran her fingers over the keys that appeared and soon on the table where several bottles of cold Bud Lite; enough for them all, and a big bowl of pretzels. She waved her hand again and the holo control vanished. She picked up a beer cracked open the top and plunked down heavily on a chair taking a deep swallow. “Well you have no idea who much I hate all that shit. I mean come on.” She said with a laugh taking another deep pull off the beer. “Anywho, help yourselves.” She said grabbing a handful of pretzels, “you know there ain’t nothing I love more then a cold beer and pretzels. I swear it’s the greatest thing ever invented in the universe.” She thought a moment “well that and bowling.” She said popping a few in her mouth, “And they both come from Earth. Who knew?”. Damien, wasn’t shy and grabbed a beer, opened it and took a sip. “Ok that’s good.” He said looking at Bet with a smile. He may not fully understand what is going on here and what they are in for, but no one could compare to her hospitality.

She looked at Io and Delvok, “I know, I know you don’t drink…but indulge me. Please. Consider this a diplomatic event, one you have to partake in.” She said with a wink Delvok looked at Bet and nodded taking a beer, much to Galen’s surprise as he took one himself. Both Aya and Io took one as well; Io taking a small sip after opening it, it was interesting she thought holding the bottle tasting the tastes of the beer it tasted very close to human bread.

Bet let out a heavy sigh then adjusted the oversized Narn flower on her left shoulder, it was grey with mustard green dots, it looked hideous. Delvok put his beer down after having his own sip, “May I ask what is your function with the Cymar?” Bet looked at him amazed at the Vulcan mind set, he spoke to her no differently now then he had before or after she was jailed, how any of them could even stand the site of her, she wouldn’t know. “Well I’m an Ambassador at least for now.” She said with a shrug, “Before all this my husband and I ran a bar on the second moon that circles the Cymar world. Now it’s just him.” Damien looked at her, “You’re not a Captain or an Officer?” Bet chuckled, “With a face and body like this…”

Damien thought a moment and before he could speak she finished, “I’m much too sexy for that shit. I wanted to title of Supreme Goddess Of All Things Bright And Shiny but I’ve been told it’s taken.” She said through a beer blench. “Excuse me.” She said patting her chest putting the bottle down for a moment.

Galen shook his head, “But all the things you said and how you were able to do what you did.” Io added, “not to mention your use of technology.” Bet smiled, “ah, that. Well first of all I had to say what I did to get things sorted out, as for the use of technology my little devise did most of the work, as for everything else I had a lot of help.” Io nodded, she really wanted to get her hands on Cymar technology to study it to learn from it.

“So I have a few things for you, if you’ll come with me, plus you’ll want to see the rest of the ship I’m sure.” Bet said finishing off her beer in one gulp putting it down on the table grabbing a handful of pretzels. As she started to leave, the others right behind her. She waved her free hand and the door opened, “The ship has a series of biometric and DNA security measures, your DNA has been programmed into the ships computer and will grant you access to most areas of the ship, some are off limits.” she said as they walked. The group left the room into a spacious well lit corridor, it wasn’t much of a corridor really but an open space that looked out into the ship, it was filled with planets and green open spaces, the ship looked ten times the size of the Camelot. It was sleek and elegant in it’s design, it looked more like a city then the inside of a ship. “How big is this thing?” Aya asked walking to the railing and looking out. Kali would love this she thought.

“Oh, it’s about half the size of the Camelot, we don’t require as much space to run our equipment as others do. The ship is designed for both comfort and function; ok mostly comfort. It uses an energy source called Purple Energy. Given current Alliance technology, they will discover it in about 150 years, maybe sooner, depending on how much our scientist work with them and how quickly they pick it up. I understand the formulas are very complicated, way over my head.” She said looking around, this was a nice part of the ship, she was happy they were seeing it.

“Is that how you’re able to travel through jumpspace so quickly?” Io asked and Bet nodded, “Yep, pretty much, I don’t fully understand the dynamics of it but, you’ll be able to talk and work with our Engineers if you want.” Bet said looking over the rail waving down to a few of the other Cymar.

“Why not share the technology now?” Galen asked and Bet looked at him thinking a moment, “Pookie we’ve thought long and hard about that and it’s difficult, I mean suppose you could go back to the times of the family feuds on Betazed, when you had warring families and you were in an Alliance with one or two of the families and you decided to give them technology, to trade with them all honest enough all out in the open. How do you think your world would look now?” Galen thought a moment, “So you see us as children and worry about the balance of power in the universe?”

Bet licked her teeth thinking on that for a moment, “It’s more then that, your races just aren’t ready yet, this technology would push scientist to a breaking point to understand it, there are principles that you have to understand first.” She looked at them, “I’m not explaining this right I know I’m not. But we don’t keep technology from you, we help you discover it, like we did with the Avalon, look around, doesn’t the interior of this place remind you of something?”

Aya looked around, “It’s very similar to the Avalon especially on the upper decks.” Bet nodded, “Some of our Cymar Scientist were working on the design of the ship, kinda cool right? Course they were responsible for the recreation aspects of the ship, but you would be surprised what you can influence when you have to design open spaces and all that stuff.” She said with a smile. Damien looked around, “I still don’t see why you don’t share more technology with us? Especially with our ship still 64 years from Alliance space.” He said with a bit of a pout and Bet sighed, “I know I know. I’m an evil whore, but for them things still have to play out.” She said with a smile looking at Io, “sorry love I know you want your datapad, but there isn’t anything fun here to scan…plus there will be time for that later. Shall we move on?” She said in a motion of a well trained tour guide and happily started to lead them on. “Our computer can be accessed anywhere on the ship at anytime, we don’t use terminals.” She stopped and waved her hand calling forth a holo terminal her fingers dancing over the keys, she pulled up a status report with video for them to all see as an example. “This is a video image of the Camelot leaving the one you saw from the conference room.” She said they all watched. Io ran her hand through it, “Fascinating.” Bet nodded with a smile. She looked at Io, “give it a try.” Io started to tap at the image, able to zoom in and out; she was surprised at how easy it was. “Impressive.”

Bet nodded, “when you want to access the system it will pull up options for you in your language and so forth. Should be pretty easy.” She said waving her hand again all the images and data gone.

They made their way to a lift, it was maybe the only thing that looked the most familiar to all of them, “lifts are still the same?” Galen said and Bet chuckled, “Some technologies never change. If it ain’t broke why fix it? I always say.” He nodded as they all stepped in Delvok felt Galen’s hand wrap around his giving it a tight squeeze Delvok knew that confined spaces made him uncomfortable.

“So do you have any small attack ships? Fighters? Anything like that or does this ship do it all?” Aya said leaning against the wall of the lift as they started to move. Bet nodded, “of course. I think you’ll really like them too, course they require two people to operate them.” Aya frowned at the thought of missing Kali, she would have loved this. Bet looked at her and smiled, “I’m sure it’ll work out. You’ll see.” Bet said as the lift came to a stop and the doors opened. They opened onto a green space, a huge park. Bet led them to an open space. “When do we get to see the bridge?” Damien asked and Bet smiled at him choosing not to answer.

“This is the ships main green space we use it for everything, including special events.” Bet said as she led the others into the center where others would be waiting to great them. “I have to admit I took some liberties here and I hope you’ll forgive me.” She said stepping aside as a young woman was standing there holding what seemed to be a small animal. “Kali.” Aya said running up to her the small beast drooping from her arms, they hugged and kissed, “I thought you were on the Camelot, I thought…” Bet smiled, “ah hell honeybutt I love me a happy ending. I know how much Kali meant to you and like I said our fighters take two people to fly um.” Bet said Aya looked at Kali, “After you vanished from the planet everyone collapsed on the planet and on the ship, except for me. There was Bet standing there smiling at me, she told me what happened and asked if I wanted to come with her, well once she said you would be here I had to say yes.” Kali said with a smile hugging and kissing her, “Hey you’re boobs feel bigger?” Kali said a Aya looked down not sure what to make of that comment, it didn’t matter not right now.

Aya spun her around, “Bet how did you know?” She shrugged, “I didn’t, it was a gamble and a bit of a lie on my part.” She winked and looked over at Galen, “And that little shit.” She said walking up and rubbing Loki’s head, “he found me with Kali and…well I know how attached Betazeds and their cats are…not sure I understand that whole thing, but who was I to say no. So here he is.” Bet said hearing Loki purr and seeing Galen smile.

Bet frowned a bit, “I wish I had things from the Camelot for each of you, but.” Bet sighed, “Io, your family will receive word that you’ve been reassigned to a Cymar deep exploration ship, one that was thought lost that happens to meet up with the Camelot in jumpspace given them some better technology to get them home that much faster, an opportunity you couldn’t pass up and insisted upon taken.” Io looked at her a moment then nodded, the story did sound believable. Bet looked at Damien, “Damien, well…” She stopped and he shook his head, “No one’s going to be miss me it’s all good Bet.’ She nodded, looking at Galen, “You my friend, an Alliance Ambassador leaving his post, not an easy one to write off, there will of course be questions and inquiries and all that jazz, but we don’t have to worry about that for several years so…” She stopped and looked at Galen, “you understand Ambassador a certain level of discretion must be kept, at least for now. You’re duty to the Alliance of course is understandable but.”

Galen let Loki down and looked at her dusting off his suit, “Their will be no word with our families or the Alliance will there?” She shook her head, “Not for at least 18 years. Based on Alliance technology that is how long a transmission from Tau Alpha Sette will take to reach the Alliance.” Io looked at her, “But my calculations…” Bet looked at her, “were perfect given your current knowledge, but there are things you do not yet know or understand.” Io looked at her a minute, choosing not to debate the matter.

“And you my pointy eared bundle of sexappeal.” Bet said looking at Delvok who simple watched her a minute, there was no one or nothing he required the ship would go on without him and his family would know he was surviving the Alliance there was no illogical sentament, “Ambassador.” Bet said and stepped away allowing a woman to walk up out of the shadow, “Mother.” Delvok said seeing his long thought dead mother standing there, “Delvok.” She said walking over to him, she looked at Galen, seeing the young man standing there. “You were reported dead and your ship lost.” Delvok said seeing her having to believe his own eyes and she nodded, “our ship was encountered by the Calitude and if it was not for the Cymar we would have been long dead.” Delvok looked at Bet, “you were there?” Bet laughed, “Gods no I’m not that old.” She said looking at them blushing just a hint, “You’re mother helped us understand so much about the Alliance her efforts and that of the Minbari Ambassador where helpful to us.”

“You’ve been with them whole time?” Delvok asked, “it was the only logical course there is much to learn from the Cymar even considering their illogical nature and their emphasis on a balanced work life.” She raised her hand to the side of Delvok’s face touching it a moment then she looked at Galen seeing him watching them, he could feel the emotion from each of them it was overpowering and yet not a hint of it appeared on either of their faces, “you are the man my son has chosen.” She said looking at Galen who suddenly was very uncomfortable he could sense a protective instinct in her he was actually a little intimidating, he also noted that she too was an Alliance Ambassador which meant she outranked him, “Um…” She walked up to him looked at him studying him for a moment, “we shall see if my sons choice was logical or not, shall we not Ambassador.” She said looking at him and Galen blushed.

Bet looked around at the others seeing their faces, “Before you ask, theirs was the only ship we encountered during the war and it was badly damaged; only 10 survived and they are all on this ship. If we would have found others things may have been different.” Bet said looking at the others Damien looked at her, “your race really does try to cover its tracks.” Bet smiled, “It really is for the best.” She hoped they would understand that, it was a lot to ask, but with power comes responsibility, it was a lesson long sense learned by her race, lesson’s she hopped their races would never have to learn.

Damien looked around, “Ok so what’s the plan? All this happy horse shit is nice and all, but where are we heading?”

Bet looked at him, “There is this great restaurant I know at the end of the Universe, I thought we’d go there for a start.” Damien looked at her a hint of a smile on his face, “You know that’s a book write?” Bet chuckled, “Nothing get’s pass you Commander.” She looked at the others, “We will be leaving Tau Alpha Sette now that we have things settled and I can’t wait for you all to see your new uniforms.” Delvok looked at her with a raised eyebrow, “God help us.” He said as Aya, Damien and Galen chuckled even Io managed a smile his mother giving him a strange look.

The universe lay out before them and they had years to explore it before details of their disappearance from the Camelot would ever need to be explained, some explanations would be easier then others, but for now they would not need to worry about it. From the planet a flash across the night could be seen as the Minerva left Uneva to adventures yet unknown. On the backside of Uneva a small ship hovered in orbit, masked by the planet’s tricolbalt radiation an offer made to it’s one occupant one he eagerly excepted, vengeance the only thing on his mind, he would make them suffer for leaving him there to rot. They would all see and they would learn to fear the name Harkonnen.
May it be said, when the sun sets on your life, you made a difference.
