at the beginning...- It started out as the brainchild of Chase Michalson, a wealthy arts aficionado in the town of Lancaster, California. He was a visionary of the 50s, who wanted to take advantage of the cultural aspect of his hometown. He founded the Brightonview Arts Conservatory in 1957 and opened its doors in September of 1957 with a one year pilot program for the very gifted of the local artists. The program was a total success as a post-secondary establishment and a full four year program was established for the Fall of 1958 and two residence halls were built, named after his children. Every five years or so, he had a hand in developing the latest innovative programs, which keep the high caliber artists from all over the nation coming to Brightonview.
fifty years later...- A fresh crop of artists, dancers, singers, musicians...every major is full of passionate students who want nothing more than to perfect their craft. With the recent establishment of a new School of Multimedia & Design five years earlier, there is a slow but constant rumbling, a calm before the storm. In every School and discipline of study, there is a new movement forming, of students rebelling against classic techniques and bringing a fresh modern style to the table. But certain people out there prefer that classic style, the feel of a paintbrush, the elegance of ballet, the skill of character study...there is a clear division between the classical and the modern. The division is even apparent between the two granddaughters of the founding father of Brightonview, the fashion designer with the classic artistic training and the director who loves the technological advances in her field.
The question is: which side are you on? Come to Brightonview and find out!
