Not yet, but the problem of having every function required by older games on the controller as well as new ones did come up. So hopefully they'll make sure we've got all the controls the Cube had. A making of-s I see. |

well, I didn't go much into it, because I really wanted to see the games more than anything. But yes, I wanted to see some Behind-the-Scenes stuff... insights, dark secrets, etc. |

I would have asked them for a true timeline, but odds are if they did give one out with some game (especially if it was an initiative by Nintendo America) that it would be a timeline they made up on the spot, like the one that used to be on zelda.com and that it would contain blatant inconsistencies. |

Actually, I sent it by mail first, then sent it again to show them that I was serious. |

Don't go thinking such things, it's the Revolution we speak of, not the DS. A home console, not a portable. It'll be wi-fi and you'll be able to connect from your home (assuming you can get on-line from your home, if you live in the middle of the desert... but what would posses you to live there?) |

While on his "cooling down break" Possum has brought these news to my attention, I assume, for posting on the board: "We are doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros., with the new technology," Iwata said. "The game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different -- it's possible that with Revolution we may be able to see the old games with new looks." http://cube.ign.com/articles/628/628218p1.html And to quote him "So not only is it *possible=very* that we could see BS Zelda 1 (possibly AST as well), but I wouldn't be suprised to see BS Zelda II (AoL)." To which I can only add: We can hope *siiigh* Anyway, it appears Possum is looking foraward to making a come back soon. Edit: Oh hey, I thought I had mentioned this previously... maybe I did in another topic, but Iwata also said news that the downloads would be for free were a lie. I'd comment on that, but I already cussed enough when I first heard about it. |

Maybe the graphics are gonna be 2D-with-3D-shell like the RetroFX technology? ![]() ALttP with OOT graphics but unchanged gameplay mechanics, hell yeah!

I can understand why Nintendo wouldn't make the downloads for free - money, money, money, after all. I'd imagine that they aren't going to be to costly, though, since the games are all ones that have been developed years ago and there's no manufacturing costs. |

Exactly. For the cost (no doubt) of a weekly rental you can have the game forever. And for many games the cost would be well worth it.

OoT graphic are a bit outdated... but throw in a few more polygons... If the games are improved then I guess it's okay (it does take effort and it's something new) but if they are mostly the same as they were and they still charge for them (and they will apparently) then I doubt they'll sell much of those. Everybody into videogames enough to care about them and to figure out how to get them (the whole getting on-line deal which can be a major turn off for occasional players) will likely already have these on their PC. The way I see it is: plenty of Nintendo free games as soon as you buy the console = instant win. oldass games that you are still asked to pay for = lose. Making their best games (i.e. SNES games) immediately available for free to anybody who bought the console (as long as they can get on-line of course) could have given a huge boost to the console sales. Nintendo has a library of past games no one could compare to (though some may argue Sony may if they did the same with PS1 games) and the promise of dozens then hundreds of games for free could have shifted the situation in Nintendo's favor, even getting them back to first place. Some may argue that people wouldn't buy new games, but let's be realistic, what Nintendo fan can say no to a new Zelda or Mario? (When they are well made, that is) When Iwata said we'd have to pay, the Revolution immediately went in my eyes from "Sup guys? We're going to be number one again and you know it" to "Hey we can still milk our fans off this old stuff! What are we waiting for?" Personally, I know the only reason I bought some NES classics was because of the improved box-art and fixed grammar. The Revolution download won't have any box or manual and I don't think there's any major Nintendo titles that still need to be grammar fixed. So unless they give us previously unreleased games like AST or StarFox2, I doubt I'll be interested at all. All things considered, Sony and Microsoft are right: Nintendo is going to take a niche market from now on. If the games had been for free, Nintendo would have regained a vast fanbase and, surrounded by our greatest games, we could have gone "What now bitches?" in Sony and Microsoft faces. But the way it's going to be... it is already so today, but you can already see it a couple years from now: oldskoolgamer:"Yay, I just downloaded *insert obscure NES game no one ever cared for even back in its day here* for just $5! Nintendo is love!" Ex-Nintendo-fans and newgamers:"fag" ...of course that oldskoolgamer is sooo me, but that's not the point. |

Rerelease PS1 games?!? pffft, they were all so crappy. That was the main reason why I hated the console. That and the almightily painful controller. About the only good first/second-gen game was Metal Gear Solid. ![]() Actually for me the Revolution's "I'm #3!!! I'm #3!!!" declaration was that (according to a GameFAQs poll question) it won't support HD-TV. What are they thinking?!? How can Metroid Prime 3 possibly stand up against Halo 3 if it ain't widescreen?!? OK that's a bad example, but games just look far more epic in widescreen. The thing old-skool games have over new ones is graphics. The fact that they are "bad" means the games themselves are better because they spend more time on gameplay and less on graphics. All the latest games are so SHORT because they spent so long making them look cool. Halo 2 was awesome, but too short. Half-Life 2 looked good and had a lauded single-player storyline but a guy in my hostel beat it in (almost) a day. Dungeon Siege looked cool, but had no (real) storyline to accompany it. About the only license these days that readily produces 100-hour epics is Grand Theft Auto, and that's only because it's got a second-rate graphics engine. But yeah, paying $5 or so for an old game would be cool. I just hope they can track down all the licenses. And maybe program in some widescreen hacks. I mean, Battletech was a neat game, but it was much better on the Genesis because of the screen-filling visuals so you could see everything. Same applied to Zombies Ate My Neighbors and almost any other action game. Plus the promise of a new Zelda after the still-new new Zelda! I mean, the current game looks so good and the next-gen games look so amazing, it's hard to believe we'll have an (almost) photo-realistic Link in just a few years' time. ![]() But yeah, we all know what we want, and the Revolution looks like it'll deliver. It may not win, and heck, if SEGA was still in the runnings it'd probably come in in FOURTH place instead, but at least it'll have the exclusives. ![]() Well, at least it doesn't have banana-boomerang controllers that would make Xena proud. Seriously now, I fully expect that G4's Attack Of The Show will have a PS3 controller-throwing contest--and give away an Xbox 360 to the winner!
