I think you all know about all this, but one thing I didn't know about that I found interesting was that apparently the player with the best records or score would recieve a prize of some sort.

Yeah someone at the board (Garrett?) managed to translate that information from the Japanese Wikipedia site regarding the BS-X and it's games. Unfortunately we do not know exactly what kind of prizes you could get.

Also it showscases the very small image of Link running from the monsters of Hyrule which seems to be one of the few if only pieces of artwork for the BS Zelda series. At some point I may take a stab at improving that picture. We'll see.

That picture was found quite a while ago, and it has been debated whether is was the official title screen or if it was somekind of art that showed up while loading the game. The picture here also has text written on it which roughly translated it as "The Legend of Zelda went on sale in 1986 and has reached up to six games in the series" (check out the pic)

An improved version of the image was also made, but I don't know where it ended up. One with the English translation was also floating around the old forums, so I think there's no need to improve it further.

But perhaps the most important and shocking news of all was this information regarding a Zelda game that was never released. Apparently the story behind it was that Zelda used the Triforce of Wisdom and accidently changed her form to that of a moblin. This was very interesting news to say the least!

Do we have any official trusted sources that such a game was actually in developement? Anyways what is that thing being sold? Is it somekind of calendar with Zelda as the theme?

Nope. That was just a joke and the dog was the punchline. lol The image was too funny just to pass up and I figured in the midst of all this serious website hunting and discussion I'd drop a bomb in there somewhere.

It is just some calendar with a bulldog named Zelda that is apparently popular enough to be sold on calendars. The enlarged image of that particular photo was funny as hell. Least to me it was. : )

Interesting information about that BS Zelda image though.

Skyewelse, is there any way you could research when this tape was released or even a copyright? this could help us

figure out if it is the same as the vhs.

June 22nd 2000 according to a few sites.

[

Well that settles it, the History of Zelda tape is different from the History of Zelda DVD. The DVD had WW content so they are definatley 2 different documentaries. It definately is worth buying. Skyewelse, I know this is a long shot, but could you try to search for a dump of the History of Zelda VHS tape. I doubt its floating around on the internet but you never know. Thanks. Thanks for all of that great info, as far as I know, the name of the voice actors of Zelda and Link has been a mystery.

I don't think I'm going to be able to find a dump of the tape unfortunately. When I was originally looking for all of this BS Zelda information I was trying to find anything that might be video related or perhaps recorded and uploaded in hopes of coming across an actual recorded online BS Zelda game session for use with the reconstruction of the dungeon rooms.

Unfortunately with the two of us searching, we were unable to find anything that was uploaded in a video format. The only thing you might be able to try, is to see if you can get that Japanese Peercast program to work as that seems to be the way any of these Zelda video files were originally transferred around.

Are you fairly sure that the tape has different content on it? I was under the impression that the various Zelda game segments on the tape entitled "History of Zelda" with the tape being a forty minute long documentary altogether, might be less than 40 minutes. In orther words, say like 20-30 mins of the various game segments (History of Zelda) and then an interview with Miyamoto about Majora's Mask. Perhaps the History of Zelda on the DVD Zelda no Video is the exact same footage from the tape at a higher quality and with a different interview sequence at the end, with Miyamoto and Wind Waker.

How long is the the actual History of Zelda section on the Zelda no Video DVD?

The player would play the game and aqcuire a password of some sort that one could use to transfer the progress that had already been made.

Doesn't seem likely for that to be a password in the common sense of the term. Probably some data was saved in one of those small GB like carts with the items you had found.

Garrett reported that a while ago. I wish we knew what gifts those were.

Methinks Link is rushing the monsters there...
Anyway, Garrett attempted that some time ago after I stumbled into that page. There should be a topic somewhere on this board...

...If anybody is interested in the tape, whenever I do buy stuff from Japan I tend to use a service called SMJ. They tend to be cheaper than most others like Rinkya.

...Come on, you know you want it... ;)

It is tempting but I have been trying to purchase old ps1 and ps2 games that are factory sealed on ebay so I can't afford it now. Maybe later in the year I can try to swing it but lameboy please feel free. You could purchase it, dump the video and then sell it on ebay to get some of your money back.

The YouTube video is by me. ^_^ I was experimenting with using it for speedruns. Unfortunately the full week went over the limit, and I can't be bothered applying for a Director account for what would amount to four videos. But between the disappointing quality and forced 4:3 aspect ratio (the "actual size" button doesn't feature on the embedded player) I doubt I'll use it.

As for patch differences I wasn't aware there's been a more recent version, although since my PC doesn't have internet access at the moment (I'm writing from a Mac!) I guess I may be out of the loop.

As for prizes, from what I found they included those Super Game Boy flash cart thingies as well as cellphone calling cards. Both of which are pretty neat prizes. Since the game records your exact score I'd be interested to know if these were like virtual cash which you could then exchange for prizes.

Aha! So the video was from someone here at the forums. lol

Oh and I'm pretty sure now that the title of the game in Japanese is pronounced and read as "Inishie no Sekiban" as not only is it reffered to this at the various Japanese documentations about the game, but this also the title the narrator calls the game by in the Zelda no Video documentary. I just watched it because this was bugging me a bit and it clearly states it as that name.

Check out The Hylia TSA said that the DVD is just an expansion of the VHS so I doubt we will get any new footage of BS Zelda. Someone could email him.

Presumably to find out exactly what footage it contains to make sure there's nothing new in it?
