It's cool Con, I wasn't sure if you'd played ~through~ the weeks and saved at the point when you did, or if you just used the cheat codes. I don't know many people that are going to "Back track" the stages to see what's left in the dungeons or do simple Heart Container hunting... but I wanted to make sure each dungeon, cave, and event had proper English text. I'll test week three tonight, and likely week four tomorrow. I normally would be able to just zoom through the game in a quick "sit down and play" mode, but I'm taking notes for the "bug report" and that takes more time than playing... plus it does kind of spoil the fun when I have to pause emulation, go to the other monitor and type in the event's effects, and then resume play. Do that about thirty times, and you'll see what I mean. ![]() I don't know if people will want a link to the download section of the emulator (me, I don't like to go across multiple websites if I don't have to) just to get SnesGt... but at the same time, I don't know if you've gotten permission to upload a copy of the working emulator on this site. If you have, that'd be better for the members that just come here looking to play the game right off the bat. And what items showing up with a white background are you talking about? I'm curious if you meant in the patched game (because I haven't noticed this yet) or are you talking about in the pictures you uploaded? |

I just have the emulator in windowed mode and use Alt+Tab a lot... He's probably talking about the KnS images. They're PNGs with transparency, but IE can't handle that (at least not IE 6) so shows an almost-white tone instead. On that note, I've just finished the text portion of my Map 2 walkthrough. No maps yet or anything like that, but at least that part's done... |

The version of Zsnes I have doesn't like to go into windowed mode, plus I have a dual-monitor set up, so I can easily swap back and forth... it's just in keeping notes on everything going on in the game and matching it up correctly to the timer events that are supposed to occur and everything else that's taking up the time it would take to get twice what I'm doing in game done, done. And I didn't notice that the KnS images were doing that... shows how much I pay attention anymore. And I'll have to read the text portion of your walkthrough... mostly because I want to see where a couple of missing heart containers are at for testing the weeks. |

Ah I see. I haven't done the Timed Events or Heart Containers, because they seem to be the same as Map 1's (which means it isn't "unknown" information). |

I have to ask Duke... ![]()
Exactly. These transparent png images are only supported by IE7 and Firefox. IE 5 & 6 do not display them correctly. However I uploaded a java script which should handle that problem, but Duke reported problems with it (whereas strangely this script works perfect with IE6 here at work). I guess I have no other choice than adding a black background to every image manually

Heh, it's cool Garrett, I didn't explain the method to the madness. I am still wanting to find out what a few of the extra "Wait" events are that showed up in Map-2 but weren't documented in Map-1. I don't think it's anything at all, short of a pause... but then again, I haven't bothered to play a raw copy of Map-1 to see if the wait signs show up at the same exact time. As for the locations of hearts and the events being the same, don't know that for 100% yet, but I'm willing to take your word on it. I mean I found two ~very~ out of place in Map-2 Spoiler: click to toggle just to name a couple of changes.

The way we understand it, the "wait"s were for information of some sort to be conveyed. Map 2 is more complicated than Map 1 so perhaps they just gave more guidance. Either that or it's another glitch like the missing enemy drops or changed gender. I haven't really looked for Heart Containers, but they seem to be in the same situations even if no longer at the same coordinates. Still, that's something to check at a later date. |

Ruggedman, you're more than welcome for the heart locations... wasn't actually ~intending~ to share them (hence spoiler tags). As for the save states... honestly, we're not ~intended~ to revisit the older dungeons, and while we could see it as a negative that we can, I look at it this way, at least we can now beat the corrects weeks thanks to those saves. But I am planning on doing a run through Map-1 at some point (NOT before the end of the week, too busy) to set up "save points" as the ~girl~ mascot. Maybe while I'm doing that, I'll have the save points establish that the prior weeks can't be "revisited" by mistakenly going into "beaten" dungeons. The waits, as you've pointed out to us Garrett, could be conveying far more information than Map-1 did... though I have to say, I think Map-2 is ~less~ complicated than Map-1. It seems almost ultra-condensed, for being a second quest... well technically fourth quest. But maybe that's just because I kind of know where everything is and am basically playing this game for the third time now. I think the wait signs can be removed, and it's very likely that the enemy drops are going to be adjusted correctly. I still wonder about the nature of this dump and it's original patching. That the game is dropping nothing but blue rupees and fairies (as the timer event that pops up from time to time in Map-1) to start, and that it wants to swap the gender to the boy if you use patches not meant for it... makes me wonder of the absolute purity of the dump. With the music being how it is, it seems almost as if this could be considered at it's "beaten" state of play, and not the true begining. It would explain a few of the glitches. |

Okay, I know I'm a night behind in the play testing, but Week 3 (save state "2") has been tested from start to finish... and rather than put all the notes in here like I did for the second week (which wasn't needed), I'll just say that ~all~ events occur as they are supposed to (including the storm happening), the "Wait" signs are still jibberish (as they should be because of the inadvertent glitches caused by using a savestate from one rom to the other), and all dungeon items are recollectable... well, except for the Wooden Boomerang. The White sword and note are also still re-collectable, and ALL heart containers (minus the beach heart) can be regained. Using this method of "back-tracking" I had the max containers by the time I beat Level 6. Which is kind of neat, but a seriously lame cheat if you want a real challenge. Also of note, all English text is correct, even in areas that you wouldn't expect there to be text (like the Blue Potion salesman and the "money Moblins) because of location changes. So all that said, so far so good. All that's left is to play-test the final week's savestate and see just what can be seen. Hopefully it will be just as correct as the last three. And when I have finished playtesting, I might be convinced to make savestates without access to previous Triforce pieces, Heart containers, and items... this is to prevent people like me from cheating their way to max hearts without earning it. |

Ugh... hate having to "Triple post" like this, but one can't edit their posts after a set number of hours, so I gotta. I just played through the final save state, and after several hours everything has been checked out. There are no errors in the English translation (Duke, you should be happy to know that!) when patched to the clean rom, and it doesn't cause errors when played through savestates of Map-1. All four weeks have their items in the correct spots, collectable at the correct times, and working correctly. Which is a good thing. The items do "respawn" in these savestates, but only because the items were patched in with the cheat codes. Now that all said, I'm satisfied with the savestates how they are. The game can be played 100% accurately (though you do have to jump states and lose anything you collected if it exceeds the items/rupees of the next savestate) and Con did a rather impressive job giving me something to busy myself with. ![]() I did notice a strange "glitch" with the game though. I decided to reset the game because of the sound error that happens if you fight Ganon in the final scene of the game (I didn't know that if you want the music to play correctly in 1.42, you should hold the down button and exit the cave ~immediately~ and then re-enter for the game to play the music correctly) and when I did, I collected the Wooden Sword (I don't know why, I just felt like it) and all of a sudden POOF! All of my items from the last save state I had done returned to me (when I reset I was at 18:07 with three hearts and no items... upon getting the sword I had everything, including 2006 rupees and the timer was still at 18:07). I also noticed that upon beating the game, in addition to the "victory" music that plays non-stop on ~non-patched~ copys of this Map... all enemies drop blue rupees and fairies. Which again leads me to believe that the copy we have was already "beaten" and played through. Anyway... I'm going to try a few things out independently, and if anything good comes out of it, I will share it with you all. I am also tempted to make a set of "girl mascot" save states that have everything collected natively to the savestates to prevent "respawning items". Now I am going to "retire" from the beta testing. My eyes hurt. |

Not a glitch unless I'm mistaken. This is how the game actually worked. You got back all your items and rupees once you took the wooden sword.
Could be, but I find it strange that the only emulator actually capable of emulating the BS-X (SNESGT), doesn't have this bug which leads me to believe that it's just an emulation flaw. |

I'd have to double-check just to be sure, but you might be correct. I think I'll do that later.
If SNESGT is emulating the BS-X correctly, then I suppose my idea has no merrit whatsoever, but it does seem to explain the enemy drops and music. Maybe Zsnes and other emulators are acting as though the game is beaten, when it's not even been started?
Ask, and you shall receive. This took a great deal of time to get done and I had to upload it to a Geocities page (it's bigger than the 280k limit of the board), but I hope it's worth it. You can find the file here: http://www.geocities.com/life_of_tre/BSZeldaStuff.html Sorry for the external linking there, since I hate Geocities ads, but it'll work. Enjoy. My eyes feel like burning.
