Have any of you heard of Ragnarok (not to be confused with Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok, which IS a Manga), Priest (ugh, no offense to the author, but that HAS to be my LEAST favorite Manhwa, due to the Christian background, and the revolting angels part), PHANTASY Degree (yay ^_^), Threads of Time, Island and (hurray, my favorite) The Tarot Cafe? Well, you might be able to infer this by the not-so-Japanese-sounding-names, such as Sang-Sun-Park, but they are NOT Japanese works! They are in fact Korean Manhwa, which is cognate to (besides Manga), Chinese Manhua.

Never heard of them before... but I am very interested in hearing more, as I'm fairly partial to comics myself, and I've never seen anything about Korean comics before.

I've seen a couple corean manhwas before. Solar Lord and Red Scorpion I believe. The style was kinda like Kenshiro, which isn't a favorite of mine. Story was okay but they were literally swamped with textbox. Took forever to read two frickin' pages.

I am glad you're interested, Coinilius. Anyways, you know how Japanese comics go right to left: well Manhwa goes left to right, making them a tad more readable then Japanese and Chinese comic books for western readers, (Chinese comic books go top to bottom). Unfortunately, Japanese Manga is a lot more recognized in the occident, (I do LOVE Manga but you can understand why I want there to be more Manhwa and Manhua, especially the Chinese kind, since all we have now in regards to those are mostly Kung-Fu comics). The Manhwa-gas are apparently allowed much more freedom from editors and censorship, I hear. There are also different styles of drawing the characters, to name 3 examples:#1.)
Boys hair tends to be more natural looking when compared to their Japanese counterparts (you know all about what I am reffering to do you not: spikey hairstyles, are not very common in Manhwa as they are in Manga), #2.) eye size is not USUALLY so farfetched, although huge eyes are uttilized sometimes, reflecting their Japanese cousins. #3.) Clothing for children is mostly not so outlandish (that would be the part I missed the most except for the adult clothing: it was more oriental-looking than the manga clothing for adults, but I kind of miss the outlandish style of clothing from Manga. Number 1 is what makes Manhwa style (at least in that overall regard) better (at least for me).

Are those done by Tokyopop, Duke? The only manhwa that I know of are from Tokyopop. Where did yours come from, I wonder?

A good reference would be Manhwa Mania, by the same author who also wrote Manga Mania. (I forgot that author's name, though. My apologies for that. At least I remembered the title, though). I remember 2 errors in that book, that I KNOW to be false though: #1.) Ragnarok is NOT spelled with a "c" as it is in that book (maybe that was just an honest mistake, though). #2.) There IS a Ragnarok Manga: Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok (At the time I was not aware of this, though, I only found out when I was at a library watching anime, when I encountered this other Ragnarok.)

Edit: Actually, the author's name is Christopher Hart. (I looked it up).

Reason:Remembered the authors name.

You should try reading some more manhwa, Duke. Not all of it is so overcrowded, I think. And I am sure you would be interested in Korean folklore, seeing how (at least to me), you have studied A LOT!!!! It's well... interesting. For instance, there are goblins called dokkaebbi, (not sure if I spelled that right), that have soft spots for pretty women, (that's pretty much a given as far as I know). And then there are other Yokwe (I am pretty sure that's the Korean conterpart of Yokai). One such Yokwe is the Kumiho: the (almost always female and (at least) almost always EVIL) counterpart to the Chinese Huli Jing and Japanese Kitsune.

Who doesn't?

I'll try to get my paws on some more if I get the chance, but I dunno how likely that is.

Speaking of dokebis, there is a manhwa called "Dokebi Bride"! Read all about it here!

EDIT: While on the subject of dokebis, here is a link to a story that features a dokebi: The Korean Cinderella! I read this story awhiles back, and it was an interesting story alright!
My Viewpoints

"Nothing you can say will ever convince me that the Zelda, Link & Impa of OOTURA, ALTTPGBA, SC2, BSLOZ, & OOX are different characters, or that Link isn't part Kokiri, FOR SOME Zelda Universes and that the mangas aren't canon FOR SOME alternate realities."
