Granted the gameplay was not up to Nintendo standards (yet still way better than most things the Angry Videogame Nerd has "reviewed"), and the animated sequences were atrocious, but they had good music (the side scrolling ones at least) and some charming scenery. Not to mention they actually did a better job of bringing back old enemies than most recent Zeldas have.

I suppose since I have yet to do more than look at videos of the CD-i titles, I have to just trust you on that one. One of these years I'll play the games... but not right now. ^_^'

Well, you should be able to see that from the videos, provided they are in good enough quality and not deliberately taken at the worse parts of the games...
Maybe it's also one of those "You had to be there" things. When I played these games, I was craving for Zelda and Nintendo was not supplying (you know, the LA to OoT years gap).

I know how that goes, and because of the desire for ~anything~ to play (it happens) I've picked up games in the past I NEVER thought I'd even attempt to play, let alone enjoy. So I won't tease you for the CD-i games. And I'd rather play, over just watching videos... videos do nothing for me.

I concur, but if you will want to play these games, let me warn you: Link FoE is terribly unfair to the player. It's one of those old games that force you to die and memorize surprise attacks in order to advance.

Hmmm... Faces of Evil is ultimate evil... got it. I'll remember that for when I eventually find the games to play them. I'm not really in a rush, since I have about a hundred (I kid you not) games that I still have to play through and beat before I consider finding new games. :D

Since I just finished JSRF, I think I'll play the Dreamcast game that came out before... since I've had it sitting on my shelf for a couple years.

Edit: Okay, because of my desire to play Jet Grind Radio, and a story a little longer than I wish to tell, I have started to burn real Dreamcast titles myself. Let's just say that I don't let simple things like my original JGR disc being unreadable by my Dreamcast stop me from finding a way to play the darned game.

Anyway, because of this, I gave SFIII another try. And now I remember the main complaints I had about the new "direction".

First, the "minor" major change... The first two (New Generation and Double-Impact Giant Attack) absolutely lacked Chun Li, my favorite (read this as ONLY character) in the series that I play as. I decided not to be a jerk about it though, and went with Ibiki. She was hard to get used to (way different style) but I think I have played with her and Mai on my "Capcom Vs. The Kitchen Staff at Olive Garden" collection (okay, so it's Capcom vs. SNK, SAME DIFFERENCE!) and managed to remember some of her moves enough to get through the first few fighters with ease. Then I ended up getting my face handed to my by Necro.

That's when I remembered the main gripe... the characters are a bit... oh, I don't know... unbalanced power/style wise? Ah well, that's okay, I continued onward anyway. I still had to laugh when I encountered Hugo for the first time and pounded him to nothing... in two minutes flat. Yeah... real balanced when a tiny girl can beat a man-mountain.

Then there's the "Special Art" selection... nevermind that they don't warn you in advance what you're going to get out of the selected move until you use it (n00bs shouldn't be using specials anyway, yeah?), but I think it's cheesy to limit you to one special attack for the entire time you use that character... and it's this way in all three titles.

At least Third Impact gave me Chun Li back. That alone made me happy... until I found her damned arial actions had be tamped down and her moves have been screwed around with. I adjusted to it and beat the game (I actually had to continue... twice. Once because of Necro and again when I got to the Balrog + M. Bison stage)... but yeah, I'm still not impressed.

I'm still holding out hope that I'll enjoy the other fighters I stock-piled for my Dreamcast though... I grabbed Capcom Vs. SNK 1+2, Marvel Vs. Capcom 1+2, Vampire Chronicle (a mash-up of all the Darkstalkers games), and Dead or Alive 2. They're all pretty good games, but so far I'm finding that I might want to just fire up Alpha 3 again and play my custom Chun Li character instead.

I'm fairly certain most people like the changes that were done to Chun-Li since, well, she's apparently a top-tier character in the game.

I like Chun Li enough that I'm still trying to get used to the changes they did with her move set. I still don't really care for all the changes, but eh, at least they brought her back to the SF franchise.

I guess I'm just going to have to keep playing until I am used to the new controls and movements.
