(Mind you, I'm being a smart*** here, and only HALF serious)... How about BS Mother/Earthbound?! |

I've never really been a fan of SoM (the inability to dodge magical attacks pisses me off), but sure, why not. As for BS Mother... maybe that could work as a short side story? Kind of like what they did with BS Fire Emblem? |

Ideally, it could have been cool to see the events of the SNES game from a different perspective (Picky's big adventure?). Or perhaps it could have been an interquel concerning the events between the NES and SNES games. |

Hey guys, I've been thinking about non-existant Zelda games again and I came up with some interesting (if I may say so) ideas for a BS Metroid. I've said before that it could consist in the exploration of four different areas of Zebes over the course of four weeks. Now to elaborate on that... I've tried to think of how the time limit could be incorporated into the game, and I came up with an idea somewhat like what they did in Hunters: multiple self destruction sequences. So once I had that down, I started figuring out the rest. The game would make use of the Super Metroid engine and graphics, but seeing as Spoiler: click to toggle , similarly to the above suggested BS Mother, the game could be an interquel that happens shortly after the first Metroid game. Here's the gist: after their crushing defeat in the first game, the Space Pirates are preparing to move out from Zebes before the Federation can obliterate them completely (they return there later of course. It does take everyone by surprise in the Super Metroid manga). Now the Space Pirates have accumulated much data and technology that makes them a significant threat and which could be a great help in the Federation's hands. So Samus is sent back there to recover certain data and equipment and destroy others before the pirates can leave with it. However, knowing they won't be able to take everything with them, the Space Pirates are setting up the self destruction sequences in each area, giving Samus only a limited amount of time to complete her mission and get out. So there's the basic plot. Now for these four missions Samus would receive directions from a high ranking Federation officer (not efking Adam) and a navigator (two characters, so they can talk among themselves like Aginah and the Fortune Teller did). This because the Federation figures Samus can use a hand in locating what she is to retrieve or destroy before the Space Pirates can blow it up or leave with it. Additionally, during the introduction sequence Samus also awakens a lingering trascended Chozo (kind of like those ghosts you fight in Prime, except not malevolent) that would occasionally boost her abilities for a time (like having all E-Tanks for a brief time or the Hyper Beam from the end of Super, enemies dropping items more generously... the timed events). Each week would take place in a different area of Zebes, ones that were not in Metroid 1 (so that rules out Brinstar and Norfair). Week 1 would be in Crateria, but apart from the intro it'd be all underground (I'd rather not self destruct the surface). Week 2 would be another abandoned ship like that in Super, perhaps in somewhat better conditions (the Space Pirates could have been trying to fix it before giving up on it and deciding to blow it up rather than leave it in Federation hands). Week 3 would be in Maridia, appropriately late so we can keep the Gravity Suit out of the first two weeks. Week 4 would be an all new Tourian-like area where pirates kept some other Metroids (which are now breaking free) and where the pirates attempted to create a copy of Mother Brain that however turned out defective and insane (hence why they are still blowing up the place with it inside). So we'd have a total of four voice actors: high ranking officer, navigator, chozo spirit and insane Mother Brain (the latter only for the final week). In each week Samus would have to defeat a couple bosses (preferably ones that were not in Metroid 1, that is, not Kraid and Ridley) to acquire the data she's after (could be received by terminals like those that gave you maps in Super) and there could be timed events (kind of like saving Zelda or the priest) in which you have to reach a certain room before the Space Pirates can salvage its contents. Once there, you'd have to blow up everything. However, unlike most BS games, it is not irrelevant where you stand when the time runs out. Before that happens, you need to (have completed your objectives and) get out of the range of the explosion. This could be done either by returning to the start or by reaching some kind of exit from the area you're in (perhaps in the first weeks it could be the start, making it easier to find your way out and in later ones you'd have to find another exit because the way back is blocked). Failing to do so, would result in the loss of the data and equipment Samus was meant to collect. And seeing as this game, unlike other Metroids, could not be completed any sooner or later than intended, the ending you get would depend on whether you succesfully completed your missions or not (so there'd be five endings, one with no missions complete, one with one mission and so on up to all four missions completed). Since the self destruct sequence goes off, it wouldn't be possible to return to the areas of previous weeks (like with the dungeons in AST, or the different areas of the BS Marvelous games). Any fundamental items that were not collected would be given to Samus at the start of the next week, but if missiles expansions and tanks were not found, they can no longer be retrieved. What do you think guys? Yay or nay? |

The BS KID ICARUS reference made me happy...Not a real game though, eh? Anyway, yep, I think a BS METROID would have been neat, and it's likely that the way you laid out here is how it'd be done. Of course, what would stop them from making some sort of side-story, or redoing something else, like METROID II? I'd personally love to have seen METROID II redone! |

Yeah a BS Metroid game would have far more likely been adapted from Super Metroid, since the resources would be there, IMO. I like your idea, Duke - sounds like a neat way of incorporating the BS elements with the Super Metroid model

Thanks Coin ![]() You know guys, we could totally do this. There already are Super Metroid editors out there, all we'd need is for someone to hack the game so that its in-built timer is visible and so that certain effects are associated to it, many of which would be essentially cheat codes (have all tanks, have hyper beam). Only really hard part would be the start/end of weeks and setting up the objectives/rating system. |

Found some more info on this weird topic. From this website I can see that the promotion that gave us the Zelda game and Famicom carrying case was a 20th anniversary celebration for Myojo Foods running from January to March 1986. The promotion apparently caused a huge stir in Japan and there were over 20,000 entrants into the drawing for these prizes. The prizes are described several times as a "4-piece set" and as far as I can gather these are the 4 pieces: 1. Charumera version of the Famicom - The linked website has photos of this item. Apparently the only noteworthy aspect of this item is that it has a "Myojo Charumera Family Computer" faceplate instead of just "Family Computer" and also the fact that the gamepads included were pre-1984 pads with square A and B buttons instead of the circular buttons of the day. 2. Charumera Famicom Carrying Case - Linked previously in this thread. This was a grey and silver plastic carrying box that could be used to carry your Famicom. 3. The Legend of Zelda ~ Charumera Version - The topic of this thread. According to the website, we can again confirm that the only difference between this game and the normal TLoZ was the label. Or at least that's what he says he's heard. 4. Kid Icarus ~ Charumera Version - An interesting prize that I'm surprised I've not run across before. The author of the blog I linked speculates that this was included in a second run of the contest by Myojo Foods that was kicked off due to the amazing response from consumers for the first promotion. As the author points out, Kid Icarus was released in December 1986 so if the original contest really did end in March 1986 then this would be the only way to explain the Charumera version of the game. Chances are that the Kid Icarus Charumera game is also identical to the released version, but still who knows. Sadly I can find no pictures of it anywhere on the internet so it seems to be even more obscure than the Zelda Charumera game. |

I found an advertisement for this game a few months ago. This scan is from Famimaga and it shows an ad for the Charumera promotion. |
