Its been a long ride

Cheif Is Back
Traveler
So....I'm back.

Well I hope at least one or two of you all may remember me.
I used to be chief117, but I cant remember my password nor do I still have that email address. Its been a long time since I have posted anything worth while. I think I stopped posting in 06, came back briefly in 07 to say things really sucked, and made one post in 08. Well as they say things have to get worse before they get better. Things did get worse, some of the major events being funerals, a divorce, lost friends, and being ignored by a member of my immediate family. It took a lot for me to get so bogged down in everything. I sorta got picked up and carried away by things that were not my fault. Ive lost some friends and gained new ones. Some how trough all the crap that contaminated my life for the last 4 years or so, and after being pushed over the limit, somehow I have landed back on my feet. About eight months ago the water was finally cool enough for me to stick my feet in. But things are different now. I live my entire life differently. I don't really play games anymore. Sometimes I will go for weeks even months with out, then Ill pick a game up and play it for a few hours. But today as I opened up my browser I was reading something and one thing led to another and I ended up reading something about Ocarina of Time, then I remembered this website and decided to take a look at it. I have not really kept up with the news about these projects. Last thing I remember from this site was the search for map 2. Its been a long ride. I'm looking through the forums but there is a lot of stuff I have missed. So in short, Ill ask what has happened since I left, I suppose there is some stuff I should download now. I hope all of you are doing just as great if not better than I am right now.
So, I might be back for good now. Maybe not posting as regular as I once did, but at least Ill be here.

...It really has been a long ride.

I remember you Cheif... and if you'd like, I could always reset your password on your originating name so you can retain yourself... it's not that hard to do.

I am sorry to hear that your life was rather difficult for you while you were away... I remember that things getting pretty bad was why you left in the first place... I kind of just assumed you were dealing with the "aftermath", not more crap.

Either way... It's good to see you again. As for what you've missed...

1: BS Zelda Map 1 and 2 are both here, "complete", and able to be played from start to finish almost exactly as it was broadcast all those years ago. Download a "Pre-Patched" copy from the main page and you can play through in "Duke Mode" (timer at xx:07) or "Tre Mode" (timer at 00:00), or even "Conn Mode" (no timer, Link and Zelda as characters).

2: BS Zelda AST is nearly finished... it's fully playable from start to finish (you have to change the name of your Week xx save to the next week's title to keep your stuff, but that's the only big problem), and it has completely restored floor, dungeons, and other things. It's the most complete it's ever been.

So it should be pretty exciting if you ever really get back into gaming.
I'm officially retired from beta testing, and resign my duties to those who have the time to do it.

I'd suggest putting more empathis on the recent "BS Zelda Real Hardware" hacks by Mott and Con, which is a more recent development. Also make note of SmashManaic's "AST Sound remastering" project, and some of the new hacking ideas going around.

Hi Chief,

yes I remember you, too :) welcome back!

We have made great progress...

Map 1 and 2:
Restoration roms: play the game nearly as it was broadcasted
Third Quest/Fourth Quest: play the game as an original Legend of Zelda
Link Roms: this is an "hybrid"
Real Hardware: this rom is real hardware compatible.

The roms mainly differ by the timer.
- In the restorations, you play each week from 00:07-00:57. Always and independent from the Triforce pieces. If you do not collect all in time you'll get a bad ending. The week forward is time-related.
- Third/Fourth Quest do not have a timer. All time related events are Triforce related and the weeks foward by the amount of Triforces that you collect.
- Link rom and Real Hardware rom: The weeks forward by each Triforce couple you collect. If you do not collect all in time, the timer loops, resp. will move on further than 00:57.

Restoration/TQ/FQ/Link roms are (so far) finished, because I retired 3 days ago from hacking business, and there's nothing left I could hack. So you can download these hacks (6 roms in total, Map1 and 2). There will be no further improvements in foreseeable time.

The real hardware roms are Mottzilla's projects and he may work on them from time to time. Main things that are missing are character chose and sram feature.

Tre already meantioned the progress in AST and I hope somebody will be one time able to hack ingame music. Smashmaniac currently works on a background music with voice acting (mp3 file) that you can hear while playing.

Well I owe Tre a big thank you for resetting my password. :)

It looks like you all have been busy indeed. I am on a new computer now so I don't have any game related things on it yet. I downloaded the latest zsnes, and I'm working on downloading the newest BS Zelda and AST roms.

So, this real hardware rom is basically the game with mascots with no time limit, that could run on a snes flash cart? I might have to get me a flash cart.

Glad to see you all still have the great smileys :cucco:

Gosh I remember when there were only a couple people that posted, cent, euclid, possum. And of course Con, Tre, and Duke. Hey, where is old possum? :)

You only can play as boy and the timer will forward until you have collected the week's Triforce couple. Afterwards it resets in the coming week.
This is the least of all finished rom that we have, but the only one playable on rh...

Well yeah... with BS Zelda reaching it's finishing states, we're getting more and more members who are wanting to help with everything from hacking to playtesting... but it's still great to see old members coming back from being "MIA".

Well its great. Today I downloaded all the map one roms and the map two as well. I spent a little time playing around in each. They look fantastic! I thought the NES link in the Link rom was pretty funny though.

Yeah, Duke and I wondered what to do about the girl in the link patch, and then he came up with this and asked when somebody is going to figure that out ^_^
Funny is that you hear him skriek with the girl's voice - made me laugh :D

Did you find it before?

Edit:
Just found a nice walkthrough for third quest if you don't want to play on your own:
