I'm sorry if this is a noobish question, but how exactly does one save the game, I thought it might autosave, but I found out that's not the case when I restarted the game lol... |

In BS Zelda Map 1 and Map 2 you have three options for saving natively. 1: Die. I'm being serious here. If you die, it initiates the "Save, Continue, Retry" screen. From there you can save your game. 2: Press Select. This brings up the same screen as the first option. 3: Wait until you finish the week you're playing. If you finish week 1, the save screen will appear for you. Same with weeks 2 and 3. |

I know about the dieing thing, been playing Zelda games for years now, but whenever i press the select button, it only brings up the subscreen for the week's objectives, no menu... |

Which version of Zelda are you playing? Because the select button on Third/Fourth Quest and the latest Map 1 and Map 2 should bring up the save screen. Still... dying is the only sure-fire 100% method of bringing you the save option. It's been that way since Legend of Zelda came out on the NES.

I'm starting to think we should go back to an autosave system like the original version had... It'd stop this confusion, anyhow.

Then your best bet, as stupid as it sounds, is dying... since that's the only 100% proper way to save your game. Either that, or depending on your emulator, you could always us the "Savestate" function... |

The "select button" quick save is only available in TQ/FQ and the Link version roms, because they are close to original Zelda. We decided to leave this option away from the restoration because you didn't have this option in original gameplay either. So you'll have either play one hour, or as privilege of Roto's patch, die. |

BTW, I've been checking the behavior of the original ROM to see how it's auto save works. It doesn't seem to do it -all- the time, but I do know It tends to save right on each Triforce piece I get.... Hrm.. |

Smash Maniac asked me (pm) to develop a patch to disable the die select screen due to his voice acting project. This patch prevents delays caused by the select screen if you die. This patch, applied on the restoration project will cause the player to start at the first cave (resp. dungeon entrance if you die in a dungeon), without the continue screen displayed (means, it is like "continue"). You will not have the option to retry or save anymore similar to the original broadcast. I also hacked a death count into it, means when you save at the end of a week, your counts are displayed in the menu. Duke, do you want to have this patch applied to your restoration projects or just leave it as sound acting special? If so, week 4 progress will never get an entry in the menu (red ring, heart containers collected in week 4, death counts in week 4 displayed), because you will not have a choice to save in week 4 then. The decission is up to you ![]() This patch works on both maps. |

I just blinked my eyes and a new patch just appeared out of nowhere! Here's my (totally biaised) opinion on this: You've reached the end of the game. There's no week 5. So implementing an ending save would only be a bonus feature. |

hmm, but for what? I could easily make a save screen after week 4 (and maybe also reset the timer) but then you already have all Triforce pieces and have to wait until 3:45 to fight Ganon again. Well, I wait for Duke's opinion on this matter

STILL MAKING NEW PATCHES, ARE WE CON? >8( ... Nah just kidding, we all appreciate it. :3 I've been trying to figure how to edit in the "old" S-RAM save style myself - Got any pointers for that? I assume what I'd need to do is know how to re-locate the SRAM pointers to standard-software SRAM format rather than Satellaview SRAM format... |

Nah, those easy things are possible to be done in 5 minutes with my experience ![]() Though I really get tired I can't help with any sram. The only thing I know that the location is bank $30 - implemented by Roto's patch. Data is stored and loaded from there. Mottzilla once suggested to use bank $70 to make compatibility with rh. I tried... and failed here. |
