I used to be really confused by that as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have noticed that the great fairies were exceptionally ugly and especially that their laughter was terrifying. If you look at the original Japanese, though, it makes a little more sense.

The Japanese term that is translated in English into "fairy" is "yosei". Normal bottled "fairy"s are "ヨウセイ" and the Great "Fairy" is "妖精", but "ヨウセイ" is just the kana form of "妖精" and both are pronounced "yosei". Anyway "yosei" is usually translated into English as "fairy," but it's really only an approximate translation just like "oni" is only approximated as "devil"/"demon". For Western cultures the word "fairy" evokes some sort of Hans Christian Anderson world of fantasy, magic, and legends, whereas the word "yosei" for Eastern cultures evokes their version of a similar creature embedded in the mythos of their own separate folklore. In Japanese culture, "yosei" are powerful magical creatures that can bewitch humans and that have other powers like raising people from the dead. They aren't necessarily supposed to be beautiful as in Western cultures.

Still, having a beautiful yosei isn't impossible, and it sure makes a heck of a lot more sense to Western audiences than having a terrifyingly ugly "fairy". This new version you're working on looks epic, Zeth. Considerably better quality than the low-res ultra polygonal creatures from oot.

That is really neat actually, didn't know that and the name actually corresponds with her actor(Programming script) name: ovl_Bg_Dy_Yoseizo

Holy freaking shit that is magnificent!
I bet the ones in OoT3DS won't be this good.

But... shouldn't power be red?

And yeah, I hope you guys have plans to change the terrifying laughter.

A lot of people were split on the beta blue fairy's looks, since she was very primitive and didn't animate except floating, so we made an updated version of her to replace both which is why she is blue now. The beta blue fairy's model however will be used as statues in the upcoming change to the fairy's fountain itself.

As for her laugh, she has two voice clips, a slight giggle(which isn't creepy) and then the full blown laughter/scream. We are just going to use the slight giggle instead.

what if we had 3 types of Great Fairies...
the red great fairy from the final version,=(Din),
the green fairy, (who is reffered to as "Venus", at least in my guidebook for ALTTPGBA),=(Farore),
...&, of course...
the beta blue fairy,=(Nayru)?!
Do you think you could try & do that, Zeth?!
Maybe take the model for the green fairy from ALTTP, &/or the OOT Beta stage based upon that game?!

Well see here's the problem, the great fairy's model is used in all the fountains, there isn't a variation like there is in Majora's mask. It would require adding additional code to her plus do texture differences for each model. I can look into it but I can't promise anything on that matter.

Now your last question confused me, I can't take the model from ALTTP since its a sprite, just wouldn't work in OOT. But as for modeling her in favor of ALTTP fairy, I don't want to do that, since most of the Zelda games(except maybe sequels) that had a great fairy had their own specific one. I'd also rather keep the fairy we do have now. :)

@Everyone else - Thanks for the great feedback and I'm happy you guys like the new fairy :)

Ah well, just a suggestion, because after all, those are the colors of the Goddesses, so...

& don't worry, I am aware that the sprite wouldn't work for OOT... ;)

Ah, so that's the idea, I see...
Haircut seems very different though (not a complaint, just a thought).

That is very appreciated.

Pretty much agree to everything here ^_^

Yeah, cause the beta model didn't really have anything to really go on, so we kind of winged it. Its still wip atm.

Speak for yourself. Less creepy is still creepy IMO. ^_^'

Well my motherboard killed over last night, freezing at the POST screen and not even letting me access the bios, tried swapping RAM, removing the graphic's card, disconnecting the harddrive and just the same result. So now I'm computerless for a few days until my new one comes in on the 5th. Don't worry, all my stuff was luckily backed up a day prior to this happening including all the work on the URA Project.

So got the new computer up and running and thus begins the work again for the project! This is a new feature that is being worked on right now! Zelda Time is now displayed so you can see what time it is in Hyrule just like in the BS Zelda games, This also displays Day and Nite currently as well, placement on the screen is not final.

Also working on timed weather events just like in AST.

EDIT:
Working out some changes, it now says Hyrule Time instead of ZeldaTime, Also fixed it from saying Nite to Night

Pretty impressive... though... I'm not really liking the placement. I'd kind of like to see what it looks like in the bottom-left corner, under the Rupee counter. I'm not sure it would look all that great anywhere else...
I'm officially retired from beta testing, and resign my duties to those who have the time to do it.

This project is looking great! I'm always impressed when I see videos or read about this one.

And here I thought the ZELDA'S BIRTHDAY game was impressive, LOL.

Don't worry your not the only one that dislikes its placement, its why I posted placement isn't final in my last post. It was just up there temporary, as for moving over at the bottom left corner, I'd rather not since the rupee and key counters load up there, however I might move it underneath the magic meter.

@Brahman - Thanks :3
I am glad you are liking what you are seeing.

Hmmmm... It might look better ~above~ the magic meter and heart display. You've plenty of space in the upper-left. <3

There's actually a very good reason why you shouldn't put anything near the edge of the screen on a console game: almost all TVs crop the edges of the screen and do not display them. And yes, that even includes the most modern HDTVs. I have to set mine to a special undocumented setting to not crop the display of my PC.

Therefore, people playing on real hardware will not be able to see stuff near the edge of the screen. Oops.

@ZethAlkar64: I'm not sure what your job is at Nintendo since you didn't specify it, but if you have access to the Wii Programming Guidelines (it's on the Wario World website for licensees), it contains very good recommendations about this very issue if you want more details on the matter.
