Just wanted to let everyone know that I got the roms of all 3 cdi games (well, really 2) working on MESS! If anyone is interested I'd be glad to explain how. |

Do tell! My CD-i's internal battery died, so I have no way of playing those games other than single sessions... and I don't really have that kind of time and patience anymore. Can I play them from discs? Or do I need an iso? |

I haven't tried with any discs, but I think you need an iso. Also, Zelda's Adventure crashes when you walk of the first screen, and FOE and WOG's cutscenes don't work. First, make two folders in your mess folder and name them software and roms (if there not all ready there). You will need to put your BIOS file along with slave.bin and cdic.bin in your roms folder, zipped inside a file called cdimono1. Your BIOS file should be named cdiXXXa.rom (XXX being your system) So if you had a CD-i 200, you would name it cdi200a.rom. Then, make a folder called cdimono1 in the software folder, (not zipped this time) and put your .cue files in it. Next, you'll need MESSUI- http://messui.the-chronicles.org/ (Put it in the same folder you put software and roms) Start MESSUI and right click CD-i (Mono-l) (PAL) and click properties. Click on the Software tag and click Insert and browse to your cdimono1 folder (the one in the software folder). Click apply and close properties and then double click CD-i (Mono-l) (PAL). Type OK when the message comes up and wait. After it's done loading (This can sometimes take up to a minute) hit tab. Go to File Manager, click CDROM (cdrm) and navigate to your .cue files. Click start as you would on an actual CDI and your set! (Note-Save states don't work, but the actual save feature in the game does) |

Well, I think that can be fixed with a flathead screwdriver, another battery, and some electrical tape,if the CD-i uses watch batteries. |

Officially retired

That's not likely a good idea... if the CD-i uses the "lithium CR-2016" battery, simply popping in a battery of a "similar type" might cause some trouble. I had to pay extra money to reply my battery for the Sega CD (which uses that battery type)... but at least it still works. Plus, I've ~never~ liked the idea of "Just use electrical tape, to keep the battery in place, after you break the soldered brackets!". It's better to have a soldering iron, melt the solder, and then replace the battery, and use new solder to fit it into place. Edit: I just did a search for "CD-i battery replacement"... good lord, it is NOT a pretty situation to replace the battery... not if this guide is any indication: http://cdii.blogspot.com/2009/03/picture-g...ery-repair.html Though... any guide that suggests "just scrape away this plastic until you uncover the battery!" type instructions don't instill a great deal of "confidence" in their ability to repair their console. >_> |
| I'm officially retired from beta testing, and resign my duties to those who have the time to do it. | |

Also here's a program to extract the BIOS from your CD-i - http://cdiemu.org (Click on the CD-I link tab) |

Ah too bad, that's the one I felt like re-playing the most.
That's one huge improvement right there.
No problem, those would only have been handy for Hotel Mario anyway (wonder if that one works...) Thanks for the detailed instructions
