So... what do you guys think?

Me, I like what I see. It's less cartoony than Minish Cap (though still more than the original ALttP I'd say).

I worry though: will this game make it even harder to fit AST within canon?
You know all my thoughts about the statement that the Link of Oracles is the same as the one from ALttP (and incidentally, those two games have also just been announced for the 3DS virtual console. Coincidence?) so I worry that this may screw things up even further.

Like say, will it be the same Link? And if so, will this take place before or after Oracles? Or after LA even? (...that would actually be kind of nice since LA left poor Link adrift in the middle of the freaking ocean )

I'd say my feelings at the moment could be described as... cautiously optimistic.

Honestly did not expect them to take this route, ya know? I mean they've been saying they'd like to remake ALttP for years now, but I never thought they'd make a new game set in the same Hyrule... not so long after AST or even the GBA re-release, anyway.
If I'd been asked to make a prediction, my money would have been on a sequel to either Spirit Tracks or Twilight Princess (but if this is any indication, I suppose in about 20 years from now we might find out if TP Link was able to see Midna again ;))
Oh and speaking of AST... this could be a great chance to include it as an unlockable bonus, just like they did with BS Fire Emblem (giving it a facelift in the process as they did with said game).

By the by, does anyone remember many, many years ago when LameboyAdvance and I were discussing a possible Virtual Boy Zelda game? Well that part of the trailer in which we see Link being propelled up to a previously unseen floor above the player's point of view is just like one of the things I imagined back then to take advantage of the VB's 3D capabilities... so that makes me happy :)
(Oh and that too had been conceptualized by us as related to ALttP: an interquel between that game and LA)

Personally, I doubt this will be a good game. I feel that Nintendo doesn't know how to make good games anymore so they're just remaking the old ones instead. The new level design appears bland and the new game mechanics doesn't appear to add much to the gameplay nor challenge, but maybe that's just because we've only seen the beginning so far. However, I cannot accept that they're using young Link's voice again, it's so annoying!

But who knows, maybe it will be a nice surprise...

I'd have to see a HELL of alot more of the gameplay, and know the bare bits of the story plot, before I can even be "on the fence" about this game.

While I admit that throwing a "It's A Link to the Past... 2!" title at me pulls at my nostalgia strings a bit, and makes me want to be interested... and that only goes so far... the whole "Oh, by the way, we decided to go 100% 3D with the game, and add in new 'puzzle elements' to capitalize on what the 3DS can do!" bit... seems a little too much like a gimmick to me.

Only time will tell though. I've been proven wrong before about my first impressions on a game... but as it stands... it just looks like a recycled ALttP, with a tacked on gimmick skill (Oooh, I can turn into Paper Link!)... and I'm not going to buy a 3DS just for one game. Not unless it's of OoT caliber.

Look on the bright side: at least he doesn't yell every time he does a sword slash like they made him do in the GBA port of ALttP >_<

What were they supposed to do? Release a completely flat top-viewed game for their 3D console? I know I would have felt ripped off if they did that, especially after Grezzo did such a great job in making OoT 3D.

Tell me about it: remember my initial reactions to Castlevania Aria of Sorrow (which I had pegged as Kirbyvania) and Megaman ZX?

Yeah, that DOES look like a gimmick right there and it certainly is a shameless rip-off of Mario's paperization. I really hope it doesn't factor too much into the game (it would be very bad if this was the function of the "main item". You know, like the shrinking in TMC or the wolf in TP. It can't possibly compare to ALttP's world skipping)

You know, this game, along with Pokemon X and Y, might get me to buy a 3DS. I will also say that I was more excited about Earthbound than this.

I know... I just... I don't know... the video didn't really make it look very impressive. But, that's the problem with one minute trailers... they only show you enough to go: "Wait... what?", and then it's on you to either get the game and try it yourself, or watch people's "Let's Play!" videos, to see more.

I felt ~exactly~ the same way about Aria of Sorrow (and more-so with Dawn of Souls, since they threw in that idiotic "Derp, use the touchpad to break seals!" gimmick in... which, duh, it's a touch-pad system, I get it... I KNOW why it's like that... just... DERP!.)... but both games grew on me, in the end.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. They're going to have to really do well at explaining ~why~ the same Link from ALttP can suddenly Paper Mario all up in this shizz, before I'm willing to commit that large a chunk of change to play the game.

That was really annoying yes, but mostly because the time limit did not start when you first touched the screen with the stylus, meaning the clock begun ticking away already as you were reaching for the damn thing.

Oh I'm sure there will be a reasonable explanation, like some long lost artifact you find in the game (near the start if it is *sigh* the main gimmick).
But we don't know yet whether or not this will be the same Link. It likely is, considering they share both look and world... however consider this: the Links of the two Four Swords games look the same and have the same power, but according to Hyrule Historia they are different. And likewise, the Link of FSA lives in a Hyrule that's remarkably like that of ALttP (even featuring some of the same dungeons), but it's not the same guy.

If it does turn out to be the same Link... I really hope they don't involve Ganon this time around. He's already destroyed him in ALttP and, according to Hyrule Historia, in Oracles too. I find that stupid enough as it is, but if we went up to the third time it'd be just ridiculous (not to mention Ganon also gets killed in AST, which takes place in the same generation too. Oy)
Already it seems from these trailers that the Master Sword is in the game. I refer you to my signature if you don't see a problem with this.

I wonder if there will be a 3DS XL bundle with this game. Eh, even if they did make it, I probably wouldn't buy it for the same reason I didn't get the Fire Emblem one: they don't give you the game in card form. No you get it in the system's memory. What if my 3DS XL runs out of battery, there's a thunderstorm and I want to play on my old 3DS? Nope, can't do that.
Bah.

Heh... try playing Dawn of Souls on your PC... having to quickly set down my 360 Wireless controller to reach for my drawing tablet (which works just fine on my emulator), just to do ONE stupid seal... urgh... frustrating doesn't begin to cover it. I ~tried~ mapping the mouse to the right analog stick, but Xpadder doesn't exactly get the speed curves right, so trying to use the controller to do "complex seals" just results in a high failure rate. Ah well.

And... you know... if it's NOT the same Link, that's much better... since they CAN do like they have in the Four Sword games... the rest... well, only time will tell, if this game is just another instance of a company taking a franchise and going: "Oh hey! We're using your nostalgia to con you into buying this sh*tty game! Only people who never played it before will love it, since it doesn't take a massive steaming dump all over your beloved childhood memories of ALttP!".

As for your signature... heh, I disabled signatures years ago, so... I don't even know what yours is. >_>

*EXCITED!!* :D

@Serkol: I sure hope that this game is compatible with AST, (not to mention BSLOZ)!! :link:

I also hope that they release ALTTPGBA for Virtual Console, & BTW, I actually LIKED Link's cry in ALTTPGBA!! :P
My Viewpoints

"Nothing you can say will ever convince me that the Zelda, Link & Impa of OOTURA, ALTTPGBA, SC2, BSLOZ, & OOX are different characters, or that Link isn't part Kokiri, FOR SOME Zelda Universes and that the mangas aren't canon FOR SOME alternate realities."

One can only take so many "Kyaaaah! Huuuuuuh! Whaaa!!! Kyaaaah kyaah! Whaa!"s before they go on a killing spree.

...think about that.

And not even the "vanish" bit, judging by where the final battle in AST takes place.

It'll be interesting to see where the dungeons are going to be. Are new dungeons appearing and the old ones disappearing? Are we going to be in the same general area, with only some parts of the map being the same, or is it entirely the LttP map?

I hope they expand it a little to the east and show that some of the forest (the other forest that's at the opposite end of the one in ALttP) still existed beyond the Eastern Palace... and maybe past Lake Hylia we could see a bit of the coast as well.

I wouldn't be surprised though if this ended up being just like AST, same overworld, same dungeons plus several new ones.

...then again, ALttP's Light World was only half of its overworld and in AST it only made for a four hours game.
