Wow, Con, these are pretty neat patches. So... this is all for A Link to the Past? I just might have to wait for you to make that "fully pre-patched rom", and test it out some time. Oh, and while you're going to punch me in the throat, it should be: "Wow! So much magical power*. Your magic power consumption is reduced to one quarter!" That would be grammatically correct, in American/British English. ![]() *I'd suggest "power", over "content", because "So much magic content." sounds like a sentence fragment, and doesn't really make a large amount of sense. ¬_¬ |
| I'm officially retired from beta testing, and resign my duties to those who have the time to do it. | |

Cool! Hope that one proved relatively easy for you (considering you didn't much care for it in the first place and did it just on a whim of mine) But... why did you color it orange? It could be kind of confusing since the best glove is yellow. Leaving it white as in AST would probably have been better.
OF COURSE! I should have thought of it myself, a higher maximum of rupees is one the features AST is most known for (although in it the counter actually goes up to 99999 the second highest amount in the entire series). Definitely a very good addition. I know I often maxed out my rupees in ALttP and had to drop whatever I was doing to go spend some.
You mean a second, right? Or does this reference something I'm not aware of? Either way, pretty awesome... could be very handy for extra hard hacks in which you are expected to abuse the heck out of Cane of Byrna and Magic Cape.
Mostly it sounds like it refers to a bag of magical items, rather than the power to use them. |

Thanks, I hope I can provide a all-in rom soon. The text isn't set by the patch by default (it's just a mock-up example). You can easily set the monologues over HM - which is lucky as I'm a no native english speaker ![]() I had to buy a new computer. I raped my old one with all that hacking and therefore lost all mails. I just sent you a mail - hope I used your correct address as I remind it. Duke, think of it being bronze. power silver, titan gold. Olympia ![]() It's given by the game's code that I couldn't make it white (or I could have done it with hacking further 3 days, what I won't do). Orange/brown (or bronze) is great. The effect is the same as in AST.
I always regarded you as Zelda veteran... and you do not know this? ![]() 7ef37b-01 (normal half magic meter drop) 7ef37b-02 (quarter magic meter drop) It's in the native code but you must cheat to make it work without my code. Euclid found this out and implemented this in PW. |

Nuuuuu!!! ![]() It's always sad when a computer bites it.
Ah so it was a palette limitation, I see, alright then, bronze works.
Well that would explain it: I've never played through the whole of Parallel Worlds. I've recently found out about PW Remodel, so maybe I'll give that one a shot. Anyway, have you checked to see if this unused upgrade is also present in AST? |

Just checked, it is (ram is different in ALTTP it is $7b, in AST it is $7d, but effect is the same): 7EF37D-01 (half from bat) 7EF37D-02 (quarter - enable only through cheats) To answer your next question: No, I can't (even if I didn't stop quitting AST hacking). The reason is that there is no upgrade fairy in AST, and I won't know how to enable that otherwise. A chest isn't possible and another bat cave neither. |

Mh, that's too bad. I wonder if the same bat-dude could be summoned twice (in the same cave) through different means. Like say, one time you sprinkle magic powder, the other you... hit it with the sword beam? You know since you don't get it until you take the Master Sword. Or maybe a Silver Arrow? |

No player on world would find it that way I guess You could couple it to an event, saving the priest or whatever. Should be simple. But then there's also the textbox to change and everything. A perfect patch would require a 1/4 magic meter marker. ...but as said. For now I am done with bszelda and those alttp projects already consuming my time. |

Makes perfect sense: the first one is granted to you by a demon, the second is a blessing of the gods

yes, but if you replace the marker you should make it week 4 only (otherwise you'd need to replace it in 2 roms). Also there are some asm problems: How to make it to get this upgrade if don't received the bat upgrade before? Easiest would be to get it in any case whether or not you received the bat upgrade in week2. You can text "Excellent work, Hero of Light. Please continue to do your best." to: "Excellent work, Hero of Light. As reward I increase your magic." Letter count should be the same, to not change the overall code to much (...continue... has 32 letters, ...reward... as well). Value is saved to sram and therefore you have it in week4 as well then. If it's an upgrade only without marker you'd just need to hack into the priest event, make a hook and write lda #$02 sta $7EF37D That's it (+ reediting the text of course). If you want to replace the marker it's going to get difficult - you'd need to change it in 2 roms, and there's also the problem that all free space for the menu is gone for the subtext. You can take a tile that already is present in the rom (image attached): But it wouldn't look that good since the upper part of 1/2 is transparent. So taking a .4 from the sword or whatever will look edgy. Much luck. |

Well, we did it for the book, didn't we? This should be no different right? (Especially since the priest can't be saved in week 4, so it's only necessary to have week 4 check if you got the upgrade or not)
Wait, you mean that the way the code works, you can get the better upgrade directly? I thought this was one of those things in which it doesn't matter where you get the upgrade first, you're given the halved meter first then the further reduced one next... kind of like the bomb upgrades in LoZ (each old man giving you four more bombs to carry, regardless of which one you find first). If it doesn't work like that, then yes this could be problematic.
Ah, so it's only leftover code without a leftover image to go with it? That's unfortunate (am I to assume this was also the case in ALttP? Or did that one have the relative image and they scrapped it in AST to make room for other stuff?) And we don't have a single open tile left? Crud. The second one in your example, that four is still transparent right? That could work. |

The bat is fixed. If you get the priest before the bat, it won't upgrade anymore. So making the priest update directly to l2 is mandatory. BAt is w2, priest w3, it would work. You have sublines consuming the complete menu. The 1/4 is the only work. The transparent you prefer will show bg pixels inside the meter, which looks awful. |

Oh... well that's alright, so long as it dosn't downgrade players that already got the Priest upgrade back to one half.
I know, it just surprises me that we managed without a single tile to spare. That's impressive ![]()
Mh, well whichever one looks better would have to do I suppose. |

May take me 10 minutes this way so I can do it once I'm back home in 2 days.... my motivation for hacking bszelda however is on a minimum so I hope nothing more is to come. If you want it more professional you may ask wiiq or euclId. MAybe they are able to make a new tile with vram and all the other stuff. But since this is mq only it isn't that important either. |

Yeah, it's no big deal... which makes it all the more cool that you're willing to do it ![]() If it ends up taking more time than just a dozen minutes or so, I would agree that it's not worth slaving over it, so if that's the case don't feel compelled to keep at it. ...I'm curious though: you make it sound like hacking ALttP is completely different than hacking AST (and much less troublesome). Is that the case? |
