Catching a Digimon?

Why would I need another Digimon? I have a great starter I picked myself...why even bother spending my valuable playing time catching other ones? I agree with the fact that you already picked your starter and that you can simply level up and progress through the whole game without ever bothering getting any other Digimon. BUT imagine you entering a duel with 3 instead of 1 Digimon which often gives you an advantage from the start. Also you can switch around as much as you want, if you're tired of your starter following you around you can just get another one to follow you instead! A good balanced team also gives you plenty benefits compared to just one Digimon (even though it might be well trained). Another thing is that some people don't really like neither of the Starter Digimon and just randomly pick one hoping to catch a better one later.

Note: If you plan to get additional Digimon be prepared to work hard and train hard! Catching a Digimon alone is a horrid time-consuming task and after you accomplished that there is yet the task of training it and making it a strong addition to your team.

Methods of catching one?

There are currently two options available to catch a Digimon:

- a net
- the capture tool

A net

Posted Image

This is the best item you can use when going to capture Digimon, using this will guarantee your catching success! Here is a free translation I made of the official Korean site:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Item name: Complete capture net

Capture probability: 100%
You have to use the item from the field map.
it will be able to capture the Digimon in one try.
(Only capturing in-training Digimon is possible)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This item is only purchasable from the Korean Cash Shop (exchanging real money for in-game items) of the game and unfortunately you have to live in Korea to be able to purchase it. [Racism, I tell you! ;)] Of course there is a little backdoor to get this item. You can trade or buy them from Korean players in the game. I'll warn you in advantage this item is pretty expensive in game. I am not going to put down a value price since this can vary between the different servers and the economy just keeps changing.

You can use this item outside of battle by right-clicking it in your inventory and then left-clicking the In-Training Digimon (digi under level 11). It will catch the item with a 100% success rate. It's a consumable item which means you can only use it once and then it will disappear from your inventory.

The capture tool

You might have noticed it sooner but when you enter battle you get a whole bunch of evil buttons you can push. One of those buttons is called the capture tool and will let you capture an in-training Digimon. This has a few differences with the net:

- This tool is only useable in a battle.
- The capture chance is said to be only 0,1% compared to the 100% capture chance of the net.
- The upside of the capturing tool is that it is completely free.
- Most people will be much more impressed if you tell them you caught all your Digimon with the catching tool.
- You can only try catching a Digimon 3 times per battle.

Increasing my chances to capture one?

There are many rumors going round about the capturing tool but none of them are true. There is nothing that will increase the chances of catching a Digimon with the capture tool. The only thing that will increase your chance is using a net. Following rumors are NOT TRUE:

- partying will increase your capture chance.
- evolving your rookie to mega or higher will increase your capture chance.
- lowering the enemy Digimon’s health will increase your capture chance.
- having a higher tamer level will increase your capture chance.
- having a higher Digimon level will increase your capture chance.
- having a type advantage towards the enemy Digimon’s will increase your capture chance.

Visual capturing with the capture tool

Here is a quick visual guide to show you how to use the capturing tool:

Posted Image

Step 1: Make sure you have one rookie Digimon (level 11+) with you to use in battle or you will unable to catch a new one. Engage in battle by left-clicking the Digimon you want to catch. Be sure to check the level of the Digimon since it has to be an in-training Digimon or you will not be able to catch it. For this tutorial we will be trying to catch a Nyaromon.

Posted Image

Step 2: This is the battle screen you get after engaging battle. Like you can see in the top right you have the command, card slash and skill windows. We will be using the command window for this tutorial. The capture tool is the first button in the command button and also highlighted in the above screenie. It shows up as a target circle with the head of a Digimon in it. To try catching your Digimon start by left-clicking this button or by pressing 'C' on your keyboard.

Posted Image

Step 3: After clicking the capture tool or pressing the 'C' button aim your cursor over the Digimon you want to try to catch and the yellow circle will appear. Now left-click the Digimon to start the catching process.

Posted Image

Step 4: If you did everything like demonstrated before you should get yellow-like circles around the Digimon you are trying to catch. This is the time you cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Posted Image

Failure: If your catching attempt fails you will get this red data stream which means you failed to catch. I wish you good luck and keep going! Persistence pays off in the end! ^_^

Posted Image

Succes: If your catching attempt succeeds you will get a blue data stream and hear a sound that resembles a bell which means you succeeded in catching your Digimon. Congrats to you! On to the next? [Special thanks to JD22 for providing the succeeded catch picture and extra information!]

I can't catch a single Digimon...what am I doing wrong?

Aww cheer up! Catching a Digimon with the capturing tool can take between 1 minute to hours, days or even months. It has everything to do with random luck. I've seen people catch two Digimon on the same day while another person was only able to catch one during two months. Just imagine how happy you'll be once you have finally caught that Digimon you've been chasing for months and can show it off to other players. Just keep on going, I know it seems hopeless sometimes but keep trying. ^_^

Edit by Sunny:
Just fixed the confusion it was in after the board’s conversion to ZetaBoards and a few spelling mistakes. ;)

Since you don't have a screen of a successful catch here is one.

Sorry dude, but nets are only from the Online Store.
Unless you have a Koren credit card ( because I don't even think they take international ones... :annoyed ) your going to have to get someone online to buy you one...or wait till the US version comes out for much easier access.

Thanks for the guide though guys! I was wondering if I could make the capture tool work any faster...but I guess not =p

Alright, I just have to say that I think that the 0,01 % catch rate has to be false. I caught my first digimon here a week in a half ago and because of that I decided to experiment with catching.

First of all, the best way to catch a digimon is to be drop hunting. Cause you're constantlly in battle and that gives you plenty of chances. But I used the weaken them first routine. And my Guilmon character team is full now and so's my Veemon character team.

And that happened the last two weeks in a few hours in the game. in fact. I caught the last three today at different times.

So I'm either a very lucky person, like people claim the people who have are, or there's more to the weakening thing that people are willing to try.

I'm not going to lie. Some where fast, but some took me about two hours or three hours (granted with real life interruptions).

But dude, two full teams. That's 8 different digimon caught without a net. People need to try and use the weaken technique. I just thought I let know that is not hard at all. A little annoying if you really really want it, but it's pretty simple to do.

Its a nice guide but either I didnt see it, or you didnt put this, and im not about the answer...

Say there are 3 digimon on field, ill demonstrait----- you try to catch the middle one, if that catch fails, does that mean you will never catch the middle one in that battle? or do you still have a chance at catching it with your other tries? its kinda confusing but I hope someone gets it. basically, if you try and fail on one of the digimon, is it useless to try on that same one? you might want to include this for stupid ppl.... :hit: Like me -.-

ALSO: If you got good eyes, you can notice different color fails... one orange and one red, the orange one makes a ding, could be a missing puzzle piece lol...but hey any info helps =P
