A small door, covered in dust, stands just to the side of the Xerolabs lobby. You can just barely make out the words "Battle Arena" painted on it. You push the door and it creaks painfully, but you go on through. You enter a large room where the only illumination comes from a hole in the ceiling. It's dank and musty, smelling of tomatoes for no particular reason. Large indents in the ground, presumably meant to store water, lie empty and unused. Perhaps if the arena had more attention they'd be filled? The whole place is filled with dust, making you sneeze. You find the lightswitch, and a dull light flickers on. It still doesn't provide very much illumination. Just then, the aide comes in. "Ah, I see you've found the arena. It's a little unused, but perhaps you could put it to good use?" Welcome to the arena! Here your Xerolabs adoptions can do battle for money and przes! And glory, too. Here are the rules. - All Pokemon start out on level 1. They gain a level every time they defeat an opponent, plus one level for every level the opponent was higher than them. So, if a level 1 Plusle defeated a level 5 minun, they would grow to level 5. - They learn moves in correspondance to their level, so a level 1 Plusle would know all the moves it would naturally learn upon level 1. TMs may not be used until level 25, and egg moves may not be used until level 50. - We use the Diamond/pearl movesets, but none of the new moves. Got it? - All the Pokemon are the types shown on their card. For example, Bulbasaur would normally be grass/poison, but here it's just grass. - Hybrid Pokemon have an advantage- they have access to both of the movesets of Pokemon they are directly descended from. However, third generation and on can't learn TMs. - The reward for winning a match is $50x. - You can apply to be a referee. You get paid $40x for every match you ref. - Any questions, please contact me. |

So are the type strengths and weaknesses the same as on the cards? There's barely any types on the card! They leave out Ground, Poison, Dragon, Ice, Bug, Rock, Flying, and Ghost! Rock and Ground are both replaced by physical/fighting. I agree with the no new moves, but not with the way to grow levels. I think that as each pokemon grows levels, it should give off more experience points if you win, and need more experience to grow the levels each time it moves up levels. Like the Video Games. . . |

Well, that might make it really hard to gain levels. You'd have to participate in many, many more battles, and if this is going to be similar to ASB in any way, those battles can take a while. Do Pokemon have a limit of four moves, or are they able to use any move they've already learned? |

No, I meant the little ID cards that the Pokemon in Xerolabs come on. They have every type, but it's only one type per Pokemon instead of two. I dislike the trading card system too. Experience is complicated and easy to mix up. I find it easier for Pokemon to grow levels by whole numbers instead of saying "Plusle has 16/100 experience" or something. Plus, that prolongs the leveling-up time. You could defeat opponents stronget than you with the right strategy, and then you automatically ascend to their level. Leveling up only affects the moves your Pokemon learn. They're all the same otherwise, and to make the battles go faster, they all have 50 HP. The damage is calculated in the same way it is in ASB, minus the evolution and STAB factors. There's no such thing as energy here- the Pokemon battle until they faint, simple. Pokemon are allowed to use any move they can learn up to the level they're at, plus TMs at level 25, plus Egg moves at level 50. Yes, that does mean that to be the first Pokemon to reach level 25, you'll have to win at least 25 battles. Hm, now how can we make this easier? How about this: You also have the option to fight an NPC, which come at all levels. Of course, the higher-leveled ones are harder to beat, because I'll give them more HP than a normal Pokemon. But other than that, those should make leveling up a breeze. |

NPC Stands for "Non-Player Character," and it's a term often used in RPGs. In this case, NPC refers to some random Pokemon that isn't tied to and user or owner. |

I choose NPCs that are completely unrelated to your Pokemon's type. Thus, the NPC is a Vulpix. Female, level 1. State your attack, Axphear. Remember, that's any move your Pokemon can learn up to level 1, plus a default tackle attack. |

Round one The two Pokemon stride out onto the sparsely lit battlefield. Or, at least one of them strides- the Gastly more drifts. They face each other on the field. Suddenly, the room seems to darken, and at the same time the Gastly's eyes seem to brighten. They begin glowing a bright red. The Vulpix, caught off-guard, is sucked into the mesmerizing gaze. No matter what it does, it cannot take its eyes off the mysterious death traps of the Gastly. The Ghost Pokemon begins rocking back and forth gently, and the entranced Vulpix rocks back and forth along with it. In less than twenty seconds, it falls asleep. Gastly- 25 HP Vulpix- 25 HP [slp] |

Round two The Gastly approached the gently sleeping fox Pokemon. From its mouth emerged an oversized tongue, with which it dragged across the fur of the Vulpix. The tiny fox Pokemon thrashed as ghostly energy seeped into its skin, but it didn't wake up. Gastly- 25 HP Vulpix- 23 HP [slp] |

Round three The gastly slurps its tongue across the Vulpix's soft fur. The Fox Pokemon writhes in pain and stirs. It moans a little in its sleep, and seems inclined to wake up very soon. Gastly- 25 HP Vulpix- 21 HP [slp] ((The Tackle has no type and damages three, which in this case would be better than Lick, which damages two. Unless you were aiming for paralysis.)) |
