Pokemon Getto Da Ze!
|
Hey, As I have been waiting for a mod to post in my RPG thread (Which I still am Probably) I realized that this RPG doesn't offer players to take on the role of coordinators. I came up with what I hope is a good system for implementing Coordinators into the RPG, or what might one day be based on an even bigger and better system. (The RPG just opened and I'm not sure if anyone will want this idea in so fast or if it's lame/confusing). So heres to hoping I don't make a complete fool out of myself at 11 pm, posting my ideas. My Wierd Way Of Working Contests Unlike trainers, coordinators specialize in showing off their Pokemon’s moves aswell as using defensive yet offensive strategies (ETC: Houndoom launched a flamethrower. Nuzleaf and his magical stick of wonderment deflected it and launched it back at Houndoom). Contests can’t work like battles, so there would have to be a separate leveling system for it and here’s what I have come up with. Every coordinator needs to show off their Pokemon’s moves in a contest, right? So every one of the player’s Pokemon (even if they aren’t used for contests), will be able to have five separate routines. A Pokemon will be able to have up to five routines at the same time, regardless of their level. Here is an example of a routine list: -Frisbee Catch (5/5) -Bubblebeam/Icebeam mix (5/10) - - - As you might see, the first routine displays (5/5) or 100%, which means you can use the routine in a performance without fail. The second routine displays (5/10) or 50%, but why did the second routine have to be out of 10 instead of 5? Every new routine takes longer to master so it goes up by fives (your last routine should be out of 25). *A Routine is basically an attack or two that is used in the performance part of Contests, you may decide which two attacks you want to combine for the best results, or you can buy items to use in your act (Such as Frisbees or sticks). Now let’s say May wants to train her Pokemon’s first routine which is currently (0/5), Any coordinator can get EXP from winning a contest, but if she has a 0% chance that her routine will work, how is she supposed to win? She doesn’t. May can battle with her Pokemon and gain regular EXP. Say her Munchlax gained 20 exp from a regular Trainer battle, she can convert that 20 exp into one of her Routine’s exp. Just like a mod would determine how much EXP a Pokemon needs to level up, the mod will determine how much more EXP a Pokemon’s routine needs to level up. SO the Mod says she needs 20 EXP to up her first routine 1 level. If she takes the 20 EXP from the battle and uses it so that her Pokemon can gain a level itself that’s fine. But she can instead put that 20 EXP towards that routine, resulting in it being now 1/5 (Note if you use EXP to level up a routine, you can’t use it to level up your Pokemon.) Now let’s say May’s first routine is now 4/5 (80%) and she wants to enter a contest. She will most likely succeed in her performance, but the mod could make her slip up because of the 20% of flaw she still carries in her routine. After the Performance round she can proceed to the Battle round and battle regularly, but Mods can take away exp points from Pokemon when they believe the other side is putting on more of a show or is using defensive offense. The mod can judge May from 1 to 10 (10 being highest) on her performance and determine is she can move on to the next round. If she is allowed, the mod can determine who she battles and judges it like a regular turn-based battle. The mod also can decide how many NPCs are in the contest. After earning 5 ribbons from 5 different contest halls spread out through the regions cities, she can move on to the Grand Festival. The Grand Festival could be better set-up as an event that all players can partake in (if they have 5 ribbons). The players who are accepted into the Grand Festival might face each other, depending on who the mod pairs everyone up with. The Grand Festival is like a regular contest accept with more people and if wanted, Multiple players can join at a time. Also, a feature that would be cool that I and others could help customize would be a dress-up feature for contests. Spriters will make sprites of random items such as bows, flowers etc and once bought, you can add the item to the sprite of you Pokemon. So what do you think? It might have been a bit confusing or seemingly silly. |

I've seen forums attempt to do contests before. The thing is, very few people are inclined to do it. (In PQS, we have only had one coordinator that quit after a week of playing and never really got into it.) Your strategy is nice and it encompasses battling, but I'm still not sure about it. It is quite complex. You'll have to ask KronaKitty for the final decision, but my opinion is still no. |

We should try one contest, and have everyone participate to see if they like it, like a sample contest. After that, we could vote to see if we should keep them or not. |

Japf has a point, but Zephyr does, too. It sounds too complicated, and something that will just be really hard for forums. We could however, give all coordinators a certain number of Appeal Points to start with, and based on their attacks, they could gain Appeal/lose Appeal. In the end, whoever who has the most Appeal points after 5 rounds would win - that sounds a little bit simpler. xD And we could use the Appeal Point stats from Serebii's Attackdex. |
