Alright, there is a major difference between good RPing and bad RPing. I will go over the basics in this topic, and it'll help you if you read it. Please do not feel pressured. Most times you will just receive a note about what mistake you're making. You'll only be punished if you break multiple rules everywhere.

GRAMMAR/SPELLING/PUNCTUATION:

Quote:

Bad Example: bob tod te pigdey to fly & atack with takle, than he threw a pokbeall and caut the pkmn.

Why? The first obvious thing is that the grammar and punctuation is terrible, and many words are spelled wrong. Bob's player also decided whether he caught the Pokemon or not, and you cannot do that. It is considered godmodding.

Quote:

Good Example: Bob told his Pidgey to fly into the air and launch a Tackle attack at the opposing Pokemon. He then threw a PokeBall in an attempt to catch the wild Pokemon.

This one, although still pretty short, was much more descriptive than the first and used proper English. There is also a BIG difference between using the word "attempt" and just saying right out whether or not you caught the Pokemon. Of course, if you accidentally made a minor mistake somewhere, we can forgive that. But if it looks like you really aren't trying at all, then you will be warned.

DESCRIPTION:

Some of us love to write, and some don't. Although we're not forcing you to write novels, please at least try to include some description in your posts.

Quote:

Bad Example: Kenny shouted, "Now, use Peck!" He waited for the result.

This is only one sentence and Kenny's using just the basic minimum, which equals total bore.

Quote:

Good Example: Kenny watched as his Pidgey came back for more. Good, his Pokemon was doing well. At first he'd been scared the opposing Pokemon had done too much damage, but obviously Pidgey's stamina was well and high.

Thinking of a quick strategy, he commanded, "Pidgey! Try to get behind him and use Peck! If your attack succeeds, continue with a Quick Attack. If not, use Sand Attack!"

This is a fairly well-written post because not only did the writer include description of how his character felt and thought, but was also more detailed about his attack and opened a good range of possibilities for the mod's result. It'll get boring if you keep using "if"s though, so try to use a good range of words.

GODMODDING

The thing that makes RPing interesting is that you do not always know what happens next, unless you're psychic and can look into the mod's mind. :3 You can only control the actions and thoughts of you and your Pokemon. You cannot decide the outcome of the actions.

Quote:

Bad Example: Leslie walked up the road with his Pikachu. He would soon be entering the Forest. Looking to his right, he saw a large group of Eevee. He prepared to fight, and would catch an Eevee.

No, you cannot decide what Pokemon you meet. If you want to meet a Pokemon, hint at it by saying something like,

Quote:

Leslie walked through the trees, looking around for an Eevee.

An Eevee hanging around in a Forest is rather unlikely, but this is just for the sake of the example. If you hint at something, a mod would probably try to go your way while still making things interesting. If you just got everything you want, not only would that be boring, but you might as well write out a Pokemon journey novel instead of RPing on this board.

MORE:

Words like "attempt, tried, etc." are good if you want a particular result, but are not directly stating you got that result. Those decisions are for the mods.

WE ARE NOT TRYING TO CUT DOWN YOUR FUN. The whole thing with RPing is using your imagination to write out a good post, and the mod will use his/her imagination to write out a reply relating to what you wrote. It'll eventually turn into a story, and sometimes people even go read others' adventures because it's interesting. The best posts are usually the longest and most detailed ones. Shorter ones are good too depending on what you write. We like to see at least a couple of good paragraphs (they needn't be novel-ish long), but that does not mean writing out one short sentence and then doublespacing for another one. ^^

The most important thing is always to have fun - if you have some kind of problem with a mod, talk about it to them. We're here for the sake of your enjoyment. Believe it or not, it's not always fun to mod, especially having to reply to short, crappy 1-sentence posts.
