Erm... today I received this giant cream-colored mail that said I'm invited to the National Young Leaders Conference for spring 2008. o_O;; I have no idea what it is. I went to their site and it says it's a 6-day conference thing in Washington, D.C. where you discuss er... political/world event stuff with other students and adults from Congress and journalists and academic people and what not. XD Basically enhance your academic skills and knowledge.

It sounds totally awesome since they're "recognizing your academic excellence/leadership skills" and you'll get an award if you go, but the tuition's a whopping $1,300+ for a 4-6 day conference. O_____O And it sounds really, really formal.

So anyways, my dad says I shouldn't go because it's too expensive and it's just something to help them make money. x3 My mom will probably be all "zomg go go go!"

What do you guys think about it? Does anyone know what it is/have gone there? XD

A friend of mine has gone to that...I think last year. (IT, that's the guy who designed Shadowark and Blizarde and whatnot--he's a genius) Too bad I don't have a whole lot/really any of info for you. xD

Meh, looks expensive. Personally, I'd go to a free one xP. Someone who isn't even my teacher somehow conned me into going to one of those that costs nothing but my precious presence =P...haven't been there yet though...[/nohelpwhatsoever]

I wouldn't go... but that's just me.

a. really lazy and
b. That's a lot of money.

But hey, you don't seem to be the lazy type so if you want to go hone your mind and don't mind the expense, go ahead...

We danced among the lightning bolts,

<taurnil> Something freakin hilarious happened in my chemistry class today
<taurnil> i was asking my teacher about the origins of the element "europium"
<taurnil> i said "So, where does europium come from?"
<taurnil> my teacher gives me the most confused look ever, and then slowly says "i don't have any opium"

<Snausages> So, an E-flat, a G-flat, and a B-flat walk into a bar.
<Snausages> And the bartender says,
<Snausages> "I'm sorry, we don't serve minors."
<Myke> That struck a chord.
<Snausages> Careful with those puns, you'll get in treble.
<Myke> But they're key to my humour.
<Myke> And very noteworthy.

Hm.. sounds interesting. Here are my thoughts.

Pros:
1.Sounds awesomeness
2.You would learn a lot.
3.You would get to go to D.C.!

Cons:
1.That costs an awful lot.
2.There is no 2. Although that should be a pro... *shrugs*

....lemme guess. Are you in GT?

Hmm, I don't know anything about it, but it sounds like you could learn a lot. It sounds pretty interesting; it might be fun to go. =D

It does cost a lot, but if you decide that you want to go, you could offer to your parents to help pay for part of it, or just try and talk them into it. xD Also, if it's through your school, they could probably help with the cost. Though from the way you worded it, it sounds like it isn't. xDD;;

Genius he may be, he's not at all good at thinking up names for things. XD

We won't be able to make the choice for you. It's definitely very expensive, though-- $1300 for an in-country trip for just a week is incredibly high, you do know. But at the same time, you have every right to feel very proud of yourself for having caught the notice of these very important, formal people. You'll get to raise your voice, too, and likely be heard where you might not otherwise be.

And believe me, you will be hanging out with tons of intelligent, gifted kids that are around your age. Prime chances for making friends, and you can bet that some of them like Pokemon. ~

I got that... your teachers probably put you on the mailing list. I get something of the sort every year and it's so annoying because it's never free. My dad wasn't really fussed and he used the envelope as a pot holder. Or was it a placemat? It was a placemat.

I'm pretty sure it's not just for making money... your teachers will probably mention it on a letter of recommendation if you ever apply for a forensic science/politicial job... so it could help you.

I'm not going. It's too much money. But some people in my school went on a trip that was similar, and they had the time of their lives. They didn't regret any of it - not even paying for the stuff.

Personally, I wouldn't go, but if you're looking for a CSI job or a place in politics, it could be pretty good.

Wow! That's SO kool! I would learn more about it before you decide whether to go or not- but it should feel great anyway to get a chance like that though even if you can't go. ^^
I would go if I were you, but it's your choice- or is it? You have to decide whether you want to go, and then if you do, you can talk to your parents, and then they can decided whether they will let you go- I think. =3
