Bad books that you would like to warn us against? I recently read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and thought it was a excellent, complex story. The other day I bought another book of his, I Am The Messenger , though I haven't started it yet. However, I do not the recommend the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It's just a bunch of overrated, trashy wish fulfillment. >_>

My side of the mountain series -a great series about a boy named Sam gribley who runs away from home into the Catskill mountains. He also has a falcon named frightful, and one of his sisters lives with him for part of the time in the second book. Hatchet series -a great series by Gary paulsen that is about a teenage boy named Brian Robeson, who finds himself in the middle of the wilderness, with nothing useful but a hatchet. the first book tells about how he survives. And the second one is during the winter. There are two other books in the series that are about two times when he goes back to the wilderness. Loch -A book I recently finished about a teenage boy named loch, his sister zaidee, and his girlfriend Sarah. Loch's dad works for a greedy man named Anthony Cavenger who's team is trying to kill a group of plesiousars that would make him rich. Loch, Sarah, and Zaidee stop Mr. Cavenger from killing the creatures, and they almost risk it all trying. Green eggs and ham -uh, why do I still read this? Sam I am?

(I seriously must have posted this like 5 times on these forums... <repetitive> ^^ I liked My Side of the Mountain too... I don't know, it seemed like a really great way to live. Other than that, I really liked the Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind and The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Good stuff.

I intend to be formidably armed." <taurnil> Something freakin hilarious happened in my chemistry class today <taurnil> i was asking my teacher about the origins of the element "europium" <taurnil> i said "So, where does europium come from?" <taurnil> my teacher gives me the most confused look ever, and then slowly says "i don't have any opium" <Snausages> So, an E-flat, a G-flat, and a B-flat walk into a bar. <Snausages> And the bartender says, <Snausages> "I'm sorry, we don't serve minors." <Myke> That struck a chord. <Snausages> Careful with those puns, you'll get in treble. <Myke> But they're key to my humour. <Myke> And very noteworthy.

Um.. classics. o-o I don't know why they're classics in the first place, they're so bad. Trust me, newer books are better than old 'classics'.

And uhh..ahh i'm not sure if I should recommend this book but it's one of my very favorites. The Fox Woman by Kij Johnson, based on a fox living in fuedal Japan who falls in love with a human, and tries to find a way to turn into a human in order to be with him. The reason I'm not sure about recommending it is that there's some adult content <___> and uhh books to stay away from? Ahaha I've never really hated any book that I've ever read, at least the books I can remember.

The Pendragon and Alex Rider series(es) are my favorite, and the Five Ancestors series is good if you want a short, action-packed read. Books I wouldn't recommend... most school-y books, including my least favorite book of all time, Little Women. shiver Though To Kill a Mockingbird is actually very good for a school-y book. ^^

I have a friend who has read the Alex rider series, but Ive never tried it. He said good things about it, so maybe next time I go to the library................... I don't know if anyone here has something similar to this, but the state that I live in does a summer reading program that can raise (or lower) your grade in ILA. I have picked out three books to read this summer. Dogsong-Gary Paulsen My brother Sam is dead- James Lincoln Collier & Christopher Collier The Island-Gary Paulsen Has anyone read these books? Do you recommend them?

I vaguely recall reading The Island, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much. Except that there might have been a canoe in it. Has anyone read Epic? It's like Heir Apparent, but I liked it better... (sorry Hazelnut :P)

It's about a boy who goes to a different world of stories. I actually think Twilight is okay, although it does have too many Sue elements.

Ooh, Avielus, i agree with you so much it hurts, I have recently started rereading them. The Inheritance Cycle by Chistopher Paolini is good but further analysis reveals it to be Pern, StarWars and the Lord of the Rings all thrown in together, still read it. :<_<: I didn't mind Twilight either, did get a bit repetative and i try not to think to hard about it... I don't think she'll ever change... All of Ian Irvines books are awesome and definatly read Matthew Reilly, he is my new idol. :lol: I hummed and haaed about the Crown of Stars series by someone whose name eludes me, the first three books were good but then number four just... I put the series down and haven't touched it since. I'm probably cruisin' for bruisin' if i say i don't like Harry Potter aren't I? Each to his own... :ph43r:

Actually, I don't like Harry Potter either... shifty eyes >_> <_< I'm just going to look down my bookshelf and see what I like... His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, unless someone's already mentioned it... Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind... great series, lots of philosophy, a touch of romance... read if you liked Wheel of Time. The Dark Tower by Stephen King... love Stephen King? Then you'll love TDT. A lot of random jank by R. A. Salvatore... because you can't go too long without reading about dark elves and the like. Great Tree of Avalon series by T. A. Barron... because this is the guy that got me started in the book scene. I read his first series, which was about Merlin and stuff, and I was hooked. That was when I was like... 8.
