Kingdom Management Q: How do I start my own kingdom? A: First, be sure you are not a vassal of any existing kingdom. Second, you must capture a town or castle. To do this, you must have at least 6 members of your party fit for battle, and you must have a negative relation with the faction of the town/castle you are besieging. Getting a negative relation is fairly easy. Perform hostile actions on their villages, attack their caravans, or threaten to attack one of their lords. You don't actually have to attack them. You will get a chance to back out after your relation score has dropped. Q: How do I...? A: Almost everything related to managing your kingdom is done from the Camp menu. From the Camp menu, select "Take an action" then choose "Kingdom Leader Options". From there, you can change the name of your kingdom, recruit lords, assign lords to fiefs, set your kingdom's culture, and more. Q: I recruited a lord, but he is not spawning. Why not? A: Lords do not like it if you do not give them a fief. Once you have captured a town or castle, go to the Kingdom leader options in the camp menu and assign your newly recruited lord to one of the towns or castles you have captured. The first town/castle you captured to start your kingdom is assigned to you by default, but you can reassign it to one of your lords once you have another fief. NOTE: You can also give villages to a Lord as a fief. Once a lord has been assigned a fief, they will usually spawn the next day with an army of troops based on the culture you set for your kingdom. They might not come out right away, but you'll see them hanging out in a castle or town. If you want them to go do something, enter the castle (or town's keep) and talk to them. You can then give them orders such as Patrol Around, Raid A Village, etc. Q: Oh no! One of my towns/castles/villages just turned neutral! What do I do?! A: If you assign a fief to a newly recruited Lord BEFORE you get the pop-up screen telling you he has joined your faction, any fief you assigned to him will temporarily turn neutral. All you have to do to fix this is to assign him to another fief and the neutral fief will revert to your faction. The reason for this is that when you first recruit a Lord, they are initially neutral. When you get the message saying they have joined you, it will say something like "Lord Penchak has left Neutral and joined Kingdom Of Player". Thus any fief assigned to him will become Neutral since when the player or a Lord leaves a faction, any fiefs they own will remain part of the player/Lord's original faction and not be transferred to their new faction. Since the Lord was neutral when you assigned the fief to him, it thus becomes neutral when he officially joins your faction. The Magic System Q: Where do I learn magic? A: There are several magic trainers. Each teaches a different type of magic. Even if you started the game as a mage, you should visit Galstaff as soon as possible. Galstaff can be found on the upper level of the Red Dragon Inn in Dragon's Death. He teaches the Fireball spell, teaches you how to cast magic, and sells potions. Skald can be found in Dragon's Death Tower, but you will have to go through Dragon's Death Dungeon to reach the tower. Skald teaches the advanced Fire spells. The village elder of Bazeck teaches the Water spells. Necronus can be found in the tavern in Tombstone. He teaches a variety of high-level spells, but will require that you have certain items before he will teach you anything. Pandora is a wandering minstrel that can be found in taverns, but you never know which one you will find her in. She teaches healing and enhancements spells. Q: I've learned some spells but I can't cast them. What am I doing wrong? A: In order to cast spells, you must have a focus object (a wand or crystal) equipped. Currently the only ways to get a focus object are to either start the game as a mage, get a magic wand from Galstaff when he teaches you about magic, or find a Focus Crystal while working in the Salt Mine. In the future, I will add more ways to aquire these objects through quests or special merchants. Your ability to cast spells will also be affected by the weight of your equipment. Wearing heavy armor may prevent you from casting. Q: How do I cast spells? A: Galstaff will teach you all the basics, but in case you forget his teachings.... In battle, press 6, 7, 8, 9, or 0 to choose the spell category. Then press 'E' to open the list of spells in that category. You can then press 'T' to select a spell from the list. And finally, left click anywhere to choose the selected spell as your active spell. Then simply left click to cast the active spell. Q: Oh no! I accidentally killed one of my own troops with a fireball!! A: OK that wasn't a question, but when you first learn a spell, you might hurt your own own troops if they are near your target. However, the more often you cast it, the better you will become better at casting that spell and as the spell gets more powerful you will be less likely to hurt your own troops. Q: How do I use the Cure spell to heal my troops? A: After selecting the Cure spell as your active spell, hit the CTRL key to switch to Heal Others. I have only briefly tested it and can't say for sure if it works since there is no message displayed saying you heal them and there's no way in battle to check your troops health. Note, you must hit CTRL again to switch back to Self Cure. Q: Where do I buy potions and how do I use them? A: Galstaff (located on the upper level of the Red Dragon Inn in Dragon's Death) sells both Healing and Mana potions. In battle, press the 'Y' key to choose potion size, press the 'G' key to choose the type of potion, and press the 'V' key to drink the chosen size/type of potion. Sea Battles Q: Where do I buy a boat? A: Boats cost 2000 denars and can only be bought at towns near the coast. If you don't have enough money, the option to buy a boat will not appear in the town menu. Q: How do I disembark/land my ship? A: While sailing, click on a town, village, castle, or even a party of troops and you will sail towards them. When you hit land, you will be given the choice to disembark. Your boat will remain there, so don't forget where you parked. To get back on your boat, simply click on it and when you get near it you will be given the choice to embark. Q: In sea battles, how do I control my boat? A: Your boat and the boats your other troops are on are automatically set on 'close and board the enemy'. Press the 'I' key to switch commands. Others available are 'skirmish' or 'anchor' commands. Q: What happens if I or my troops go overboard? A: You sink to the bottom and die. Usually your troops will not go into the water, but there will be times when they fall off the boat. This is a bug. However, if your troops fall into the water, they will simply get stuck there and will not sink or die. If they have a ranged weapon, they can still attack distant foes, but otherwise they have to wait there until the battle is over or an enemy boards their boat and gets close enough for melee. Q: Oh no! There is water in my boat! Is it sinking? A: No. This is also a bug. Don't worry about it. Sometimes it will go away, but even though you die for falling overboard, you don't have to worry about walking in the water in your boat. Black Market Merchants Q: Where are they?! A: Each kingdom has one black market merchant that only sells equipment specific to that kingdom's troops. Each kingdom's black market merchant will be located somewhere within one of that kingdom's 3 towns. Most will be on the streets hiding behind corners or other low traffic areas. One of the black market merchants is located inside a building, so be sure to check all of the shops if you can't find them on the streets. In addition, there is one black market merchant on the mainland who sells equipment from all eight kingdoms, but you'll have to search extra hard for him. Q: Why don't you just tell me where they are? A: What's the point of hiding them if I just go and tell you where they are? Q: What about the merchants of Sanctuary? A: The merchants of Sanctuary are similar to black market merchants, with one difference. They sell equipment from all eight kingdoms, but only of a specific type (Horse Merchant sells horses from all eight kingdoms for example). However, you'll have to buy a boat to get to them. Miscellaneous Questions Q: Where is Dragon's Death? A: Dragon's Death is located on a hill near the river between the Levarian and Velorian territories. Edited by Keedo420, Jul 21 2009, 09:58 PM.
