Out of curiosity just wondered what game got people into the hobby in the first place, do you still play it...if not why not? Also wonder what people's current fave game system is.....

First game ever played:

SPACE MARINE from GW. This still ranks as possibly my all time fave game, It was just so awesome and I still have many cool memories of the game. The box itself contained so much stuff and playing with massive armies over entire cities was just wicked! I mostly played against my dad on our dining room table (really annoyed my mum! lol) with my Eldar or Ork armies against his Salamander Marines. My dad really hated the Falcon grav-tank pop-up attacks from behind buildings!

Do I still play it? why?

I sold off all my Epic stuff last year on Ebay, even my dad's Salamanders were sold when they moved to Ireland, so I have nothing left....... :( I've been looking at the latest Epic Incarnation "Armaggedon" (free on specialist games site!) and am really itching for more 6mm gaming! If anyone out there plays, or has some Epic stuff they want rid of let me know........ ;)

Current Favourite:

Has to be WARMACHINE from Privateer Press. What's not to love about a game with big stonking steam-powered robots!?!?!? Even though most people play without Warjacks the games background and miniature range is awesome! Everything in the game is "potentially" broken and the game is all about combo's and ramming your army down your opponents throat....... ;)
Warmachine - Cryx, Protectorate of Menoth, Cygnar Hordes - Legion of everblight, Trollbloods Urban War - Syntha, Koralon, Gladiators Helldorado - The Lost WW2 - US infantry Ancients - Egyptians Warhammer - Tomb Kings Warhammer 40k - Orks

A long way off being fully painted......................

First wargame (sort of) I ever played was Heroquest, the first MB/GW crossover. Then I recall seeing an advert on TV for Space Crusade, which looked similar but with guns and aliens, which I was quite into at the time (having just come of age to watch Aliens, Terminator, etc). So bought that, then shortly after, a few classmates were using a "bring your own games into school" day to have a game of 40k - I recognised the Space Marines, asked questions and got involved. So the first true wargame I ever played was 40k.

Do I still play it? No. I moved onto Epic scale after a year or so (getting the Space Marine box for cheap from somewhere) and enjoyed it more. There weren't many players at my secondary school, so I just wandered away from the hobby (for about 8 years!). On my return (inspired by the LotR films & game), the 40k I knew seemed to be dead and buried, and the games I've seen don't look like my sort of thing, really.

My current favourite is probably Blood Bowl, it always struck me as an excellent idea and I wish I'd played it more often when I owned a copy as a kid, even though I was probably awful. Recently, I really thought Confrontation 3 was a superb game, but obviously the makers didn't...

I've been tracking things on ebay to try to get playing again, but it's fairly expensive nowadays. If I ever get a bargain (or manage to find an army back at my mum's) then I'd love to play under the online rules.

The first wargame I was exposed to was 40k around the age of 13. It was at a friends birthday party and he had received the Space Marines/Dark Elder box set. Parents figured it was a good way to keep me occupied and thus I started a Dark Angels foce. I enjoyed the game, although I never really got the hang of it. In a way I was pushed into it by my friends and, after realised guns etc werent my thing, i quickly moved on and played Fantasy

I no longer play 40k and dont plan on doing so in the forseeable future. The game seems to simple to me and like a lot of GW games these days, aimed a tthe younger customer/gold mines. I moved on to LOTR after Fantasy, a game which I was drawn to through m love of the books and later, the films. During my GW time I dabbled in Bloodbowl and Necromunda, but never really got in to either. After that I played a shipo based combat game for a short time before getting into Confrontation and ultimately the RPG it spawned, Cadwallon. After they decided to ruin it, I jumped ship and started Warmachine, Hell Dorado and Bloodbowl, all of which Im still playing.

My current fad is BB I think, the league based nature of it lending itself to my competitive streak. I really enjoy one off gaes of WM, although I feel playing it excessivlery woulds make me tire of it. Im really excited about where Hell Dorado is going and I think it could be a really hugely fun game in the way Confrontation was before they went all GW with it

I was draged into gw by james and the first game we played was spacehulk. From then on it was 40k second edition. had a little break during high school. Then After college when I got a job I started everything that gw had, never played much though, had to cut it down now to just a few games, 40K, fantasy, and newest urban war.
