Well, I attended and played in the doubles tournament and thought I would write this preliminary report of the tournament in sections: The Tourney Structure and Execution The tourney was planned quite well, but we didn't get to play the forth round but it wasn't a major issue. The missions were varied and provided a real test of the versatility of the teams and their army selection. The terrain was ample and boards were well laid out with sufficient space between each one. The only grievance I have was with the apparent lack of forewarning about how the ally system was being used and the requirement for proper written army lists before the tournament but that is all a lesson for next time. The Teams Ah, potentially the place were can be most scathing or venerating towards my fellow gamers. The two lost and the damned players (Ash and the guy whose name I have regrettably forgotten) provided a particularly awesome display of diversity and bravado in their play style and army composition (not to mention the seriously twisted conversions) my only regret being that I never got to play them. John and Rich were truly playing to the spirit of their armies with Rich being elusive and hard hitting as the Eldar and John providing a bastion of unrelenting and stubborn fire-power as the Emperors Finest. Jason and Bennett provided much hilarity as their Marine combo with Jason truly showing he is a 40k noob at heart The team of Denny and (again I forget the name, apologies) was quite a parade of mega expensive characters and units but ultimately quite amusing. The frothing madness that was the Chaos horde of Steve and (sorry, it's been a long day) with the two most inept Dreadnoughts I have borne witness to and then there the was the very tactically 'interesting' Guard and 'Nid combo that exhibited some very unusual behaviour for their respective armies. Overall, all the teams made the day interesting with I would say most sporting team going to BJ and his friend (really sorry, really long day)My take on things I thoroughly enjoyed the day and not because I won overall. I think this tournament is a good indication that 40k can be as fun and diverse as we the gamers make it instead of the static gun-line game that it is unfairly branded as. I feel that perhaps (despite certain peoples misinformed views) that the army i had used was balanced but then a lot of people are too quick to blame a 'new codex' for an armies success rather than recognise their own shortcomings and address them, but then as a gaming community we have an obligation to help each other improve even if it is something as simple as helping a defeated opponent recognise what they could do to improve their game. Plus, it is important to point out that I have refined that army over nearly 8 YEARS of extensive play testing and refinement it's not just a random assortment of hard units crammed together in a haphazard fashion. But overall I had fun, it was nice to see Simon enjoying the beautiful game and nice to see that for some people it was a good learning experience. Can't wait for the next one. |

I agree, it was a good day! It was my second, third and fourth game of 40k.....after managing to avoid it for years I have to say it was a helluva lot of fun! The Orks performed amazingly well! We lost hardly any models, annhilitated two of our opponents completely and played in "the spirit" of our boys...... The first game was fun against Tyranids and Tau......we totally wiped them out losing 2 trukks and a mob of shoota boys! Highlight was my slugga boys taking on a hulking Carnifex, they drove up pumping shots into it and took off 2 wounds with mass pistol fire! Then assaulted it, the Nob took off another wound with his Klaw for no wounds in return! As it's fearless it doesn't run and lost it's final wound!!!!! The boys did a victory dance back into their trukk which then got destroyed by a pesky Broadside! Paolo launched an assault on the hive tyrant with his boyz but couldn't take it down so my Warboss and Nobz drove in and my Boss cut him down with his Klaw 3 points to us The second game was against another odd pairing of Tyranids and Imperial Guard.....they retreated into some ruins, chucked a few missiles about, threw some "respawning" gaunts at usand I think only killed a trukk....... We won on victory points 6-03 points to us The third game was yet another "interesting" pairing of Chaos Daemons and Eldar. The Eldar started on the table with the Daemons deepstriking down.....We hurtled in to the Eldar to wipe them out fast! Skulltaker with his Juggernaughts came down but due to a mishap we got to place him in the far corner of the table! Paolo went hell for leather to kill off the Eldar commander who was none other than Eldrad Ulthran! He cut him down mercilessly but was then shot by a falcon whilst doing his victory dance! His Nobz mob then spent the rest of the battle engaged in combat with the tank knocking off (literally lol) weapons! The Bloodletters came down in the middle of our army and we surrounded and poured about 100 shots into them wiping them out before they moved! Skulltaker, who had been steadily losing Juggernaughts, had now reached the boyz and after wiping out a shoota boyz mob stood in the middle of our force We turned everything round dismounted all the boyz from their trukks and poured a ton of firepower into him waiting to assault......he went down easy though......only 2 wounds! lol Was quite a funny sight though seeing him stare down 5 trukks and about 30 boyz ready to pound him into mulch.....3 points to us So that was it maximum points to us! Was great fun, the cries of "broken Orks" were ringing out but our army was in no way beardy or uber-powerful, we had between us: 2 Warbosses with Nobz in trukks 2 Ork boyz mobs mounted in trukks 1 Ard boyz mob in a looted wagon 13 Lootas Shoota boys mob 3 Deffkopta's so 2 HQ, 6 TROOPS, 2 ELITE, 1 FAST ATTACK, 1 HEAVY SUPPORT Would've been cool to play against the horde of latd......scary, Orks being outnumbered! lol Ash's partners army also looked fantastic and was full of amazing conversions! Anyhoo....enough rambling from me.......where's our prize......?

i thought the day went well, however next time we will have to impose the allies list because some of the teams that turned up were very strange and very out of character in my opinion, we will also have to make sure army lists are submitted before the day to ensure a swift start and avoid any delays. Paolo all i can say is i think we need to trim your green beard , i look foward to your space marine army of doom.
