This is for anyone with a Warhammer 40000 army: I will be running a campaign starting next Thursday, this is going to be done properly and unlike other campaigns, this one won't drop off half way through. The reason this is will happen is because of one simple fact: there is a cash prize at the end of it. Yes, that's right I said a cash prize, you know; like a poker tournament. This is a bit of a radical departure from the usual, but then the club needs a boost and money is a powerful incentive. Campaign Layout Basically, it's going to be a grid/map based campaign where everyone will have a base square and then each victory expands your domain by one square and each loss will reduce your domain down by one except for your base but I will cover that later. The basic goal is to have the most territory by the end of the campaign. Simple eh? Progression (or how to kick ass) At the start of each campaign week, you will be given the opportunity to expand in any chosen direction, the layout of the map and boundaries will depend largely on how many players we have. If your expansion takes you into unclaimed territory then you will play anyone of my choosing to represent clashing scout forces and the winner claims the square. But what if the square belongs to someone already? Well, then you are invading them! Simply put, you are expanding into fortified enemy positions and they are going to have an edge over you. What that edge is will be at my discretion. If you invade someone's territory then you are going to have to play that person. Now obviously you can remove another person from the running if you invade and conquer their base square. This may seem a bit harsh but then you are playing for money and it stops people doing a turtle act in the corner and being non-aggressive, also any potential invader will need to make a path from their base to yours so its not as easy as it seems. On that note, if your base gets invaded, you will receive a significant boost to your defence attempt but even if you are eliminated, then despair not, you will join the Marauders. WTF are the Marauders!? Ah, the Marauders, that will be me and anyone who is eliminated from the campaign. Basically, we are the rampaging natives of the planet and our job is simply make the players lives difficult but how and when will remain a secret until you join the Marauders. The kitty gritty Basically, here's how it works, everyone who plays in this campaign puts £2 in the kitty and this becomes the prize. Your part Yes, you guys need to do your bit too. First off, promote this campaign to anyone you know who plays 40k but hasn't been around lately or is infrequent, the more people that play the bigger the kitty. I will go as far to say that anyone brings someone into the campaign that isn't around so much will earn the favour of the Marauders I know that real life gets in the way of things but what I will say is that like a poker game, once your in, your in until it's over, for better or worse. This needs a level of commitment from all who participate. If you know that you will be unable to make at least most Thursdays, don't sign up. The Marauders will act in the defence of players who miss a Thursday for valid reasons but if this happens consistently then your territory is open game. I'm interested in promoting this game to serious players, not piss-takers. So, sign up on this thread for the first leg of this campaign and post any questions you might have. Oh and before you ask, there are no allies. It's the war-torn 41st millennium not a UN Peace Summit! Regards Warboss Paolo Edited by BigBossOgryn, Dec 3 2008, 05:58 PM.

lets up the kitty £50 a head yeh Nah im up for this easy money sounds good to me. Will we be using campaign points, that you can use to reinforce a territory in your control, scout, expand your army etc. Kind of like how Dawn of War uses resources? How will army selection work, will we have an army pool that increases/decreases with the death/recruitment of new troops? Are special characters allowed? Are forge world models/rules allowed? Are there any rules for allowed/disallowed model rep? Are there any banned armies/codexies/white dwarf articles? Do we need campign markers or objective markers? Does everything have to be painted/any bonuses for painted armies? Are we allowed allies within our army not from another player I.e grey knights etc? Can we use introduce experience for characters like they have in dawn of war that would be cool, nothing too beardy, but i think experience for units would over complicate things. How does the prize system works winner takes all or 1st 2nd 3rd etc? MOST IMPORTANTLY ARE ORKS BANNED AS THEY ARE STUPID? |

In answer to these points: There will be no campaign points, your territories are either won or lost through games, not how much you can reinforce it by. The armies are essentially infinite as it would be overcomplicated to do anything else with so many people. Special characters that are unit upgrades i.e.; the 2 wound ones are allowed, the stand alone ones aren't. No Forge World crap! No model rep at all, it's unfair to people that actually worked to convert their stuff. No banned armies, any white dwarf lists are at my discretion. No markers needed, it will be a laminated sheet that I will colour in. I would like everything to be painted but then I would have a 2 man campaign, so there is no requirement for painted but there will be certain 'bonuses' to painted armies ![]() When I said no allies, I meant between players, the GrAY Knight/Sisters of Battle ally thing is fine. No to experience for characters on the basis it would complicate things. I may change the prize thing so that it is split between the top 3 like: 1. 50% 2. 30% 3. 20% but I will work the exact amount based on the pool. Orks are not banned but people with jewfros are. |

Is Jason cool with cash prize tourneys at his club? I'd check with him before forging ahead, just in case. I'm sure it'd be fine, but some parents can jump to some pretty wild conclusions when they here snippets like 'pay to play', 'private club' and 'winner takes all' - might not be the best advert. |

you may wanna think bout this cos it seems that it'll be possible for someone to attack a territory as their "move" and possibly be selected by you to fight a battle - thus giving them 2 chances to get a territory |

Jason's idea and all of the 40k players are at least 16 to 18 so it's not too much of an issue. Incidentally, any ideas or changes you can suggest would be welcome Martin as this does borrow heavily from board game concepts and you are the board game guy

To add clarification: Anyone selected to fight by me in this situation is doing so as a Marauder, a win will not gain territory. This will be people that have either completed their game or are 'spare' 40k players looking for a game. Games where someone is being invaded will be set-up first and then pushes into neutral territory after that, with the Marauders as opponents where a player is not available. The exact sequence will go as follows: 1. Moves are done. 2. Anyone who moves into an enemy square will play the person (or Marauder if the person is unavailable) they invaded. If the invader wins, that square becomes his, if the defender wins, they may expand their domain into the square from which they were attacked by (you catch the enemy position minus it's would be defenders). 3. Moves into neutral territory are resolved. People who move into neutral territory will be paired up and when an odd number occurs then Marauders will fill in. Among players, whoever wins expands their domain, and in the case of player vs. Marauder, if the player wins then they expand their domain, if the Marauder wins then nothing happens. Essentially, everyone who turns up each week will have an opportunity to expand their domain once and will get a game for definite. Edited by BigBossOgryn, Dec 4 2008, 08:52 AM.

Does this mean then that if after moves are done, you are contesting two different squares you play one game and the other game is played with a marauder in your place. Hence you become relient on the marauder trying to defend you.; |

I would like to join in but I can only get down every fortnight (to keep the missus happy) and I'm deep into fantasy at the moment and need a refresher for 40k anyway, plus i need to paint lots of marines. So I guess I won't be joining this one, but I hope it works and runs well. If so i'd like to join one in the future. |

In the event that you are having to play 2 games at once due to moves you have done or someone else invading your square then it will entirely up to the player which game they play and if a Marauder is available then they can play the other game. |

what if you make a grid (and if you label the gurid 1,2,3,etc a,b,c etc) and post it on the forum of where everyone is and then people can make their move during the week and then it will save time on thursdays as everyone will know who they are fighting (as some people get to the club early and othrs get there late) |
