Myself, Emma, Martin, Mags, Carla, D and Bennet went to see Twilight and I can safely say that it is possibly the best vampire film that has ever made it to big screen. It has ended my cinema year on a high note (and it had to work hard after the disappointment that was Max Payne) and am planning to go and see it again with Bob Dave.

First off, it was nice to see a vampire film that wasn't riddled with the typical cliche doom and gloom b*llsh*t that seems to plague the big screen vampire outings, Or the over the top action vampire films that could just as well have been aliens, werewolves or some other creature. There were some genuinely laugh out loud moments for me which is rare for a film. It was refreshing to see believable characters as well, not generic suave vampire no. 2, psychotic vampire harlots from oestrogen hell and dim/hapless human prey (had enough of that in a WoD: VtM campaign to last a lifetime).

The plot in a nutshell is: girl meets vampire, falls for vampire and all kinds of sh*t kicks off from there. It is most definitely not a film for the emotionally retarded (sorry Swampy that means you ;)) or people whose emotional palette does not stretch beyond 'Yay! I killed someone in that game in a way that was hilarious!' (yes, Conboy that means you). It's a vampire love story that involves teenagers and it was so well portrayed right down to the nervous stares and awkward shuffling of feet and struggling for words. You need to be able to say (or at least think) 'ah that's cute' or 'oh God I can associate with that poor b*st*rd right now'.

It's hard to sing the films praises any further without ruining the plot, so if you haven't seen it: go see the bloody thing (pardon the pun).

Erm, wow Paulo, not sure I'd have sung it's praises quite so much. It was good, but "best vampire film that has ever made it to big screen"? Hmm... What about Near Dark? Or Interview with the Vampire? Or The Lost Boys? Fright Night? From Dusk Til Dawn? Even Bram Stokers Dracula was decent enough.
Don't get me wrong, I did quite like Twilight, but don't oversell it dude...

It was basically Dawsons Creek with a bit of Charmed and a lot of Buffy. Enjoyable, but that's about it.[redit][/redit]

Different opinions dude, having seen all of the aforementioned, I still rate Twilight as one of the best. Not only that, but it really, really, pisses me off when a genuinely good film gets passed over because of undeserving bad reviews, this may come across as me overselling (hell if I care) but all I am doing is trying to encourage anyone who was debating seeing it to actually go and see it as opposed to listening to the reviews and missing out. Movie reviewers are such douchebags.

Incidentally Martin, I still need to sit down with you and get some ideas for this campaign in the new year, let me know when is good.

Man you people are mistaking love with hammy bull (or romantic stuff) in my opinion. You also have to remember the vampire is not a teenager, why is he hanging around in schools? Is he some weird vamp paedo or summat? Does he like being old and lusted after by little more than jailbait? Any film based on a piece of bizarre unexplained plot automatically puts me right off. Anyway the film isn't portraying love just some horny biatch and some horny but hungry pale dude. Its just like Texas where they want to but Daddy would kill them.(and then probably hump them himself) When I think of a film that portrays a relationship well I will get back to you but this is just typical American forbidden teenage love love with a badly explained twist.

But I raise a valid point, fair enough if you liked the film but I think saying it was the best vamp film ever was a bit ott. To make that statement maybe you need to see it a couple of times again in future and see if you still really like it. I have seen a lot of films for a second time and picked up on new things, good and bad that have really altered my original opinion.
That said anyone who decides to watch films based on movie reviewers doesn't deserve an opinion, I enjoy finding out other opinions but ultimately if I want to see a film i am gonna see it, if it got a bad review and is crap at least i can enjoy bitching about it.
Ultimately though anything is hard to judge on its own merits. We have our opinions altered by everything, hell if somebody I dislike likes a film I may presume I may like it by default just out of spite.

I was actually referring to the whole Texas thing but never mind. Having seen it again I still stand by my opinion of the film but I do concur with Conboy about people who base their watching on reviews.

True, different opinions are one thing, but still, better than Interview with the Vampire?
Like I say, Twilight was cool - I was sat there all the way through thinking 'ok, this is still alright - I wonder what's gonna happen to ruin it'...and that moment never came - but there's a stack of Vampire movies that have bettered it in every way.

And I do agree with Conboy to a point, the love side of it was quite hammy - however, I've watched enough Charmed, Buffy, Dawsons Creek, Smallville, etc etc to realise this is pretty much what to expect from America, so it didn't really bother me.

Not sure what he was on about with regards to the Vampires age though. Sure, he may have been 80 years old, but he was still in a 17 year olds body - and if you really believe that an 80 year old man wouldn't still lust after 17 year old chicks, I think you may have to re-evaluate things :) The main reason 80 year olds avoid 17 year olds is generally down to the fact that they would be unable to catch them. And catching them would lead them to an early grave anyway...

I gave up listening to movie reviews a long time ago. One person opinion is worthless to me. I'll look at game reviews, because 40 quid of hard earned is a lot to waste. But 2 hours of my time? Pah. Plus, I love movies, I'll generally watch any old tripe.
Except Australia - which looks to me like a modern 'Gone With The Wind'... Fuck that.
