Keeping it a secret, Part 1

My goal is to see how long I can go without having anyone notice that I have a blog here.

Here's a chunk of something that I'm working on:
_____"Sammy gaped at the serpentine stretch of asphalt waiting before him. The air had turned to tar, encapsulating the oak tree forest that had been slashed in two by the snaking road. The tar made the trees groggy and incapable of movement. It filled the hearts of songbirds and turned their tweeting symphonies into an oozing bloop-bloop that struggled to escape collapsed lungs. What songbirds did survive this close to the asphalt were coated in the tar-filled air, and these were known as ravens. These ravens and their tar-filled lungs could only croak, and the croaking came from above and behind Sammy while the road wore its mask of innocence before him. Had Sammy been blind, deaf, and anosmic, this might well have been a good location for a picnic, a game of tag, or perhaps a first date. Sammy was, however, quite capable of spotting an acorn from twenty feet away, of monitoring the sounds of any quadruped or biped within a fifteen foot radius, and of differentiating between the titillating waft of a cherry tree and the cologne of impending doom.
_____In fact, Sammy was quite aware of his surroundings; was quite displeased that they were his surroundings; and was quite certain that, were it not for the iron paw of tradition scratching its way into his generation, he would never, ever return. But return he must, one day, for he was born as Samuel Jenkins, son of the nutter, Leeroy Jenkins. And all the sons of nutters in the Jenkins clan had to face what lived on the Road as proof of the courage and loyalty they would need to feed the Jenkinses as easily in the death moans of winter as they could in summer, the season of mint and honey.
_____Suddenly..."
